Having lived in France for over 12 years, we always search out a French restaurant when travelling the UK. We were NOT disappointed with Yves excellent menu and Elizabeth’s friendly and attentive hospitality. Loved the aperos, starter and main, did I mention pudding too? We got to brush up on our rusty French too. We’ll be back and bring friends next time. Thank you. Merci beaucoup pour ce déjeuner excellent.

This is my favourite place to eat in Cheltenham. The food is always excellent and the staff at attentive and very welcoming. I have also bought their macarons and famous Horse Choux to go before as a treat. L'Artisan is only open for lunch. It is perfect for a special occasion such as birthdays and valentine's day.

Sitting in this little French Bistro, you feel like you are in France. The husband and wife owners are French, with Elizabeth front of house and her husband in the kitchen. The food is beautiful and good value. Small portions but very rich. Only open at lunchtimes now.

Got a delicious choux pastry for 4.95£. It was a tad too sweet but the bitter chocolate balanced it just right. Very light & easy to eat.

Authentic affordable French food served by a lovely friendly Madame, prepared by her husband Mr Le Chef. High quality food creatively prepared. Prix fixe menu changed each month or so. I wish I lived here so I could come for an exquisite meal each week!

Encouraged by Jay Rayner’s rave review in The Observer, we booked lunch here on a Friday. Absolutely superb. No gimmicks, just great French cooking and impeccable, friendly service. At a time when dining out in the UK is hit and miss, this was an object lesson in how to get it right. Can’t wait to return.

It was our wedding anniversary and we decided to try something out of our comfort zone so opted into French cuisine. We absolutely loved the food and the service was top class. The chef also came out to ask us about the food and wished us on our anniversary. This small gesture made our day more special and felt really welcomed. Thank you so much💓

A gem of a place. Great for a lunch whilst shopping in Cheltenham. There is no comparison for quality at this price range in town.

Forth time dining here - needed a solo lunch pick me up and as expected it was fantastic. Elizabeth and her front of house colleague were wonderful and the team had adapted so well to the lunch setting, with great value food and just an all round fantastic atmosphere. I had the French onion soup to start - a classic, and one of my favourite dishes ever! And this is a great example, not as garlicky as others I’ve had. But still a fantastic traditional example. And for my main I had the special of the day which was this fantastic fish dish, so crispy and tender, the fabulous potato dauphinois, with the most incredible veg cooked in garlic and butter that were so heavenly sweet! As always a fantastic lunch!

Came for the horseoux desert and we had a lovely experience trying different ones! The decoration was gorgeous and the creme brûlée was great as well. However the coffee definitely needs to be improved. The different coffee were not very well made and some of them were very strong. The staff were nice and the main courses looked amazing so would love to come back for it.

A fabulous independent family run traditonal French Restaurant (actually run by a French family), which puts many of the so called French inspired restruant to shame. We ordered from the set lunchtime menu (two or three courses), which was good value with two choices for each course & freshly prepared. I would definitely recommend & also suggest you book ahead as the restruant was close to full when we arrived.

I feel so lucky to know this place in the center of Cheltenham. It is not a modern restaurant but vintage and retro one. The french cuisine and atmosphere here is amazing. Totally love it!!

Great huge crème brûlée!! The horsechoux base was a bit soggy but still really good, raspberry one was my favourite!

Such a delight!! The food was impeccable, very authentic French dishes and very nice presentation too. The owners really made this bistro a special place. Felt very well taken care of, they remembered all requests from the online booking, and were so friendly and fast with everything! Loved their own dessert creation horseshoe too! Defo will come back whenever close by and highly recommend!

Very nice authentic french bistro owned and operated by a lovely couple who take great care of their patrons. The pastries are spectacular and the HorseChoux is a wonderful and unique creation by the chef-owner Absolutely worth a visit!

As I'm French, I've never been to a French restaurant in the UK , scared to be disappointed, but L'artisan made me feel like home, the food is fresh and very tasty, sublime with a helpful and smily service. Great experience, definitely be back again.

Very poor meal served up under a false French disguise . Avoid !!

I tried to book a table at l’Artisan literally for years, but every time there was a special occasion they were unfortunately closed or some other problem occurred. So this time I decided to pick a random day just to go and finally try this restaurant and I’m so glad I did it. The ambiance was nice, candles on the table, everything looked really elegant, the only downside is that it’s a tiny place so tables are quite close to each other. I had the ravioli as a starter, followed by the duo of duck, while my partner had the scallops and the beef fillet. Honestly the starter where amazing to see but I felt like my ravioli were missing something, maybe they were a bit too delicate in flavour. But the highlight of the dinner was definitely the duck, it was simply amazing and I loved every single bit of it. For dessert we ordered a cheeseboard and the chef’s special, the Horsechoux, which is available in different flavours and is in the shape of a horseshoe to represent the town of Cheltenham. I loved our meal from beginning to end and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Wonderful lunch, from the amuse bouche , to the spinach and veal raviole, to the pork loin stew. Absolutely wonderful. Service was superb, will definitely come again!!

It is a tiny family French restaurant in the heart of Cheltenham town. Loved every single plate. The flavours are unique and worth enjoying as a trite for oneself every once in a while.

Wow. The reviews and posts about this restaurant are bang on. Wonderful food, excellent wine list, brilliant service and unbelievably well priced for the quality. It is exceptional.

Top class food, imaginative chef, great host...absolutely fantastic.

Having dined at L’Artisan many times in the past, we were not surprised at the quality of the food and the ‘top notch’ service we received with their Takeaways. Whilst in isolation Yves delivered our food, what a wonderful service, can’t wait for them to open up again to the public.

What a fabulous takeaway we experienced last night. The final night of Tartiflette, a dish so evocative of the French Alps. If you can't get to the mountains then bring the mountain to you!! ....and with such style . It arrived with a delicious amuse bouche . We also enjoyed the delicious whitebait and crêpe Suzette. Go on , treat yourselves ..... delicious, fun and great value!

Just returned from a truly exquisite experience at this fabulously intimate restaurant! Celebrating our 5th wedding Anniversary! We couldn’t have picked a better place! Have been eating here both in the restaurant and as a take-away: L'Artisan excels at both! The restaurant has the most friendly ambience of any restaurant in or around Cheltenham. The staff clearly take great pride in their work. The menu has always shown great creativity and is executed with real style, especially the regional menus which have been a regular feature this year. Even though the food as a take-away was every bit as good as that served in the restaurant, I would still choose to eat in when possible. Cannot reccomend L'Artisan enough.

A lovely restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, flavour & presentation, out of this world. The staff were professional and really friendly. Almost unassuming from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The whole experience is excellent! Everything was perfect. The service was stellar and the staff are friendly. The food was absolutely tasty - every course was a delight. The flavours were great and well balanced. It made for an amazing evening.

Fantastic small place with amazing food

I have had the pleasure of eating here on a couple of occasions over the last few years and I have never been able to find fault with either the service or the quality of the food. This visit I was celebrating my birthday with a large party and it was a really easy process to book and pre order. We were really made to welcome and the food was delicious. It's a restaurant I go to for special occasions as it's not a cheap night but you get what you pay for and I think it's worth every penny.

Wasn't looking for a French restaurant for lunch when we found L'Artisan, but I'm so glad we did. We had the 2 course lunch time menu and it was truly fantastic. The cassoulet I had was simply the best I've ever tried and this was preceded by garlic soup which was a revelation. The Chardonay was heavenly and the service was very friendly with lots of little touches that made us feel special. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

The last 'good' French cuisine I tasted was 'Le Cinq' in Paris, very French indeed but this little treat is in England and is every bit as good if not better, the food is beyond exceptional, well prepared and served by such homely and friendly staff. A night away just to visit here for my 50th birthday and what an evening, we loved it. Thank you Elisabeth, your husband and team. The absolute perfect evening

Wonderful meal at L'Artisan as always. Attention to detail evident as usual. A perfect end to a non profitable day at the Races! It was a little louder than usual as the Irish guests were in buoyant mood - cant blame them - probably had a lot of winners! Fully recommend this delightful restaurant.
