A stunning hotel and restaurant, beautifully decorated and in a beautiful location. On the way in we saw two stags in the surrounding grounds, looking majestic. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the whole place had such a community feel as they knew a lot of the diners, it really does seem to be the place to go for a meal. We are in the bar area as we had our dog, the staff, the food was beautiful, fresh fish and chips were the best I've eaten, and a steak which looked amazing and cooked to perfection. Then the desserts, creme brulee and a sticky toffee pudding - again perfect. We can't wait to be back on Uist to visit again.

We had lunch booked in the bar which overlooked a lovely garden with a couple of lovely features -arches made of stag horns and shells. Its a long time since I have eaten here and I I thought the lunch menu was limited. We opted for the venison burgers which were supposed to come with an onion chutney and this rather disappointingly replaced with mayonnaise. The coffees ordered after lunch got forgotten about by our server but there was only one member of staff on duty when we arrived who appeared to be manning reception, the bar and the eating area so she was kept busy and was very pleasant. I noted a few housekeeping issues, dust and small bits of debris on window ledges etc but not an unpleasant experience. The room could have done with being a bit warmer as the weather was typically hebridean.

This was the place I wanted to stay but couldn't get in, so we had lunch instead. A warm, friendly greeting, including welcoming to walkers and dog owners. It serves lunch at 12.30 and we were the first to arrive. The dinign area was cosy and looked out over the garden. The selection of food inc vegetarian and used local produce. I had a very tasty asparagus risotto and my husband had fish & chips. It's near a stone circle walk and cairn so they offer a drink & cake option all day. Plenty of parking. Saw a deer in the field by the driveway.

Recommended by a local it’s absolutely amazing - the food was seasonal, fresh and locally produced. I’m a massive seafood lover and I had a fish starter and had the Monkfish main which was stunning. The wine offerings were lovely too. The weather was mercurial so stepping into the lodge from a rather windy walk felt warm and inviting and the staff were lovely. If you get a chance book yourself in you won’t regret it! We even had a close up encounter with a majestic looking Stag

We had the bar menu and although the staff were friendly, they couldn’t find our booking although we had the email confirmation, so we were asked to wait in the bar as we were 20 minutes early. When we were seated in a half empty area I had the fish and chips which were easily the worst I have ever had. The batter was barely cooked and slid off the fish. This in turn made all the chips soggy. The fish itself was fine. Compared to almost any chip shop in Scotland this was appalling.

This was touted as the best place to eat on the islands and thus far lived up to its billing. We paid c£150 for two, three courses, wine, pre drink and coffee. We have paid more hereabouts and had considerably worse. I started with the smoked platter (very good) and followed with the surf ‘n’ turf (excellent). We both had the chocolate fondant to follow. Also excellent. A proper pot of strong filter coffee to finish - none of your modern cappuccino/latte/mochaccino nonsense here. Service was friendly and competent, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The hotel gives off a more old fashioned hunting lodge feel than many other places around. It would be a good place to stay. Recommended.

Had a delicious family meal here, ate 3 courses all were great. Bread and olives to share, arancini starter (delicious), chickpea and sweet potato curry (perfect- nice and spicy, deeply flavoured, loved it), cranachan dessert, slightly sharp until we added the shortbread (as you should) then it was perfect. Wife had Cullen Skink and veggie burger, loved it. Children had chicken burger and chips and pizza which they devoured and took left overs home. Chocolate brownies and ice cream went down well also. Service was attentive, friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable. Would go back if we are here again. Highly recommended.

Firstly an excellent meal and the chef made an outstanding dish for my wife who has various intolerances. The reason there are only three stars here is that I am disabled and have an Assistance Dog. Dogs, despite the Lodge being "dog friendly," are not allowed in the restaurant, only the bar and we were shown to the bar by the staff member who greeted us. We were expecting the restaurant. We visit North Uist most early summers and have built up a tradition of taking lunch at Langass over the years. Sometimes we have had dinner too. It has always been a good experience with helpful and friendly staff. Even on a wet day (they do have them) the view out to the gardens is good and sets the tone for the meal and ambience. Sadly this year the menu seems to have 'gone down market' as there was not the choice available we remembered and what there was was inclined to be Burgers. OK it may be Venison in the burger but it's still a burger. This was a disappointment as we tend to splurge on good food and felt it hard to select from the limited choices. The friendly staff saved the day and our eventual choice was 'Smoked seafood platter' and 'Charcuterie board'. "Big Cake' for dessert and washed down with a sharp Pinot Grigio. All excellent. So not a dismal failure but just a 'bit lacking' in choice. Happily as said, the lovely staff did their bit to raise the overall score and we shall see how it goes next time before being too hard on a one off visit.

I chose to eat in the bar restaurant rather than the main restaurant during my 2 night stay here because the sample menus on line were simpler dishes. As it turned out the actual menu was not as appealing. On the first night I chose a hake dish which had an odd mixture of accompaniments including quartered corn on the cob - really. I thought the chef was just trying to be too clever for his own good so on the second night I chose battered plaice which was much better. Basically a tasty twist on the usual cod or haddock and chips

The chef at Langass certainly knows how to showcase local produce with a thoughtful range of starters and mains that are firmly rooted in the abundant and fabulous produce available on their doorstep. The menu read as if the dishes may have been quite rich but in truth they were very well balanced, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The local Lochmaddy lobster was a variation on Lobster Thermidor but with a slightly lighter sauce. At the heart of the dish was very simply a superb local lobster from the crystal clear waters around Uist's coast. The meal though was let down by the desert which couln't match the previous two courses. They were, in comparison, lacking the finesse of the rest of the meal. The pudding wouldn't stop me from visiting again but I am not sure I would push for the third course. Maybe I'll try the cheese board next time?

First of all: I liked the place. I liked the atmosphere in the bar. The staff did try very hard but the service is not of a fine dining level. Other tables got bread rolls, we did not. They dropped cutlery a few times. We were sat at the table for ten minutes without drinks. The wine glasses were on the table the whole time even though we had beers. Details and minor at that but if you strive for a fine dining experience (as according to the website) these things matter. I had the mussels as a starter. I had exactly the same dish in Stornoway at Solas. Here I counted around 15 mussels. At Solas at least double. Portion really too small. Then I had the lobster. Great dish but the potatoes were burnt. All In all not bad, especially for the price, but not brilliant

Emailed asking about menu as my wife is a vegan. Received a quick response saying they do not have a vegan menu but the chef could create one for our evening. We arrived an hour early with a warm welcome and were told that would be fine to dine earlier than booked. We opted to sit in the bar area as this was doggy friendly and we didn't want to leave our dog in the car. There are a couple of tables next to the bar, but down the stairs there is a lovely area with views of the garden. This is still classed as the bar area with plenty of room for our dog to comfortably lie next to us. There were a couple of vegan options on the menu and were told this for that evening, can only assume that was to cater for my wife and give other dinner's the option. My wife had a lovely salad for starter with pickled brambles, apples, salad leaves and ciabatta croutons. For main she had courgette tagliatelle with vegan pesto. This looked lovely and fresh and presented nicely. Dessert was a roasted pineapple compote with whipped coconut cream and rum syrup. She said this was one of the finest vegan meals she had eaten. For starter I had the smoked hebridean seafood selection, consisting of smoked salmon, salmon terrine, smoked scallops and oatcakes. For main I had the 'duo of duck' with duck breast, confit duck, carrot puree, truffled mash, brocoli, pickled blackcurrants and a rich jus. For dessert I had the dark chocolate and coffee torte with creme anglais. The 3 courses for me were some of the finest I've eaten. It was an 80 mile round trip from where we are staying in Eriskay but was more than worth the distance. Can't recommend this place enough.

Earlier in the week, we had eaten in a particularly fine restaurant on Skye, which was very nice, but as expected, pricey. While we were staying on Uist, we decided on our last evening to eat out at Langass Lodge. My husband had lobster and...

Had a lovely lunch overlooking the garden and sealoch. Homemade soup, mackerel pate both excellent. Friendly staff, didn't have dinner here but main restaurant looked nice with varied daily menu. Excellent place to stop, especially after the RSPB guided otter walk

Stayed at the Hotel & the breakfast & evening meals were all excellent. Try the Fish & Chips (Beer Batter!) it’s a delight. Also nice selection of (expensive) wines.

When the owner told me he was a diver who often collected fresh scallops for restaurant guests I expected something special. When served they were huge, firm, sweet and perfectly cooked. I struggled to eat the three on my plate but they were just so...

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the restraunt, Langass Lodge. The food was fantastic, everything tasted fresh and full of flavour - we recommend the scallops. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The beautiful view definately adds to the whole dining experience. We found the meal great value for the money and look forward to the next time we eat here.

We celebrated a family 70th with a special meal out. The food was lovely. Generally fish based dishes, however there were options for non fish lovers. I will say though that the fish dishes I had were fantastic. Mackerel three ways for a starter, pan fried Halibut with crab gnocchi and parsnip puree for the main and the cheese board to finish. Lovely! Staff were very polite and welcoming. I would recommend anyone to visist.

Very limited choices in North Uist for dining options, but thank goodness for Langass Lodge's restaurant! It is wonderful food, and the lower dining room offers a beautiful view of the dramatic mountain landscape.

We were really looking forward to our meal, as we'd heard good things. I ordered the lobster, a special treat at a supplementary price, and waited while some of our party had starters. When the lobster arrived, the claw had been beautifully extracted, but the dish looked very dry. It took me a few minutes to get the tail out of the shell - I had to really tug - and then I could hardly cut through it. One bite was enough. It was all gristle, stringy and totally tasteless. I summoned the young waiter, who offered to fetch a steak knife! (As if that would make it better to eat!). The chef did offer to cook something else, but as everyone had by now finished their second course and I had eaten nothing, I just asked for the cold fish starter platter. It took nearly half an hour to come.

The Langass Lodge Restaurant was recommended to us by our landlord on Benbecula. I'm very glad we trusted his judgement; the food was great! Well cooked, well presented and the staff were all very friendly too. We had a table in the conservatory on a warm and sunny evening - beautiful location! The nearby standing stones are well worth a short walk, and if you keep walking you will find the grave of Hercules the bear (it was a surprise to me). I'd happily eat here again; the combination of good food, a beautiful location and excellent service from friendly people can be hard to find. Don't hesitate if you are within an hour or so of the Langass Lodge; make a reservation and enjoy yourselves!

Prezzi all'altezza della fama.

Stunning view and friendly, efficient staff in a small family-run hotel. The quality of food was excellent, but fully grown humans may wish to order two main courses each, such was the rather miserly amount of actual food - scallops and monkfish respective.y - on our plates. Top marks for presentation and taste, but would have loved a little more.

We ate twice at Scarista House Restaurant during our recent trip to Harris. We have dined here before on previous visits over the last 20 years and this year it was better than ever. Beautifully prepared local food. First menu - Twice baked cheese soufflé, followed by Stornoway landed hake in a delicious sauce and some delicious vegetables. and then a chocolate roulade!. Second menu - goats cheese, courgette and cheese raviol with a nettle pesto (amazing!) followed by local hand dived scallops and the most delicious lemon tart with excellent pastry, lemon verbena ice cream and a strawberry and pink peppercorn coulis. Fabulous! Highly recommend the cooking here! An absolute delight!
