We came here, without a booking, on Easter Saturday night. At first we were quite nervous, as the dining room is quite elegant and refined, with beautiful chairs etc, so we were anxious that although we were clean, we felt that we might be underdressed, after a day touring the Lakes. But it was a lovely, friendly experience, with very nice food, and pleasant attentive staff. A very enjoyable night.

This is a family owned restaurant. There is a good menu selection, including vegetarian options and local Cumbrian produce is used. Efficient staff, prompt service and the food was good. There are "private" dining areas for larger groups and they prefer a pre-order if you make a booking for a large group (we were a group of 7). The hotel has a car park but this might be full. Try to find a space in the streets around the restaurant (note the one way system). There is a public car park on Broad Street.

Visited here as everywhere else so busy on NYE lunchtime. Initial impressions not so good as place empty. Turned into a very pleasant surprise. Lovely welcoming log fire, very nice place. Staff a bit slow but very pleasant and we were not in a hurry. Limited lunchtime menu which is to be expected when preparing for NYE party nights. Between us we had burgers, fish and chips and pizza. Which were all very good.. Place soon filled up too which created a lovely atmosphere, They also have rooms which looked very good. All fully booked for the evening which is a good sign

Food not imaginative not tasted very good, waiter absoloutly stank repeatedly of cigarette smoke. Cocktail was good but that’s about it ! Too many other better places in Windermere to eat.

Lovely 32oz Wing Rib. More than enough for me and my husband and our nine year-old daughter. We asked for it to be cooked medium as I like rare and my husband well-done. When it was presented to us, I made sure my husband got the well-done bits but actually he enjoyed the not so well-done bits so I’m pleased he got to try this and appreciate it as he wouldn’t normally order it this way. Really nice accompaniments - chips and beautiful carrot and swede. Glad we made the decision not to opt for starters as we wouldn’t have finished the steak. As it was, the main course satisfied the three of us completely so money well spent. Also enjoyed the Gin and Elderflower tonics.

Given this place is part of CAMRA I was surprised it only had one ale on, and seemingly could only have one. However it was a good pint. Menu looked good. Planning to stay here in the hotel next time I visit.

We had a good meal - and good service. My fish dish (sea bream) was really good, and my husband’s steak was over cooked at first. They brought a new one, and took the cost off the bill, which was very considerate. The gin and tonics were interesting and very good!

Last minute decision to have dinner here on a Sunday evening before heading off on long journey home and was not disappointed. We had eaten here before but not since the new dining area and outdoor terrace opened. Service was friendly and the food was top notch. Jay Raynor has given this place a great review for Sunday lunch and we could see why so will definitely have to go back to try it. Diners next to us were tucking into the biggest Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen!

Went for a Easter walk with my family and ended up calling in for a drink. We asked if they could fit us in for Sunday lunch as we had the dogs with us. We were seated in the bar area and managed to have plenty of room for our big dogs which was a bonus!

Came on our first night of a four night visit and the eight of us were placed in the middle room. Good is presented nicely but there is a massive issue with the chef loving salt. I personally do not like lots of salt and the food had way too much. I had a fish special, plaice. Cooked in but and over done. Fish Neath was crispy, not sit. Fish swimming in butter. We wouldn't go here again in the lakes. There's much better alternatives for much better prices and food. One such establishment just to the side in the form of a pub.

Stayed hear for a three day break over Christmas check in is at a public bar not a reception so if someone is getting a drink well you understand very poor set up went downstairs on each morning for breakfast which is half self service half served to you ! The room itself looks quite nice until you look properly last night's leftover food various sorts on the floor carpets Base of the tables ect ect do they have a cleaner ? Ordered full English which fine good quality products very hot and tasty. Stayed in the dearest room in the hotel very poor lighting in the room you have to pull the blinds down which makes the matter worse if you leave the blinds up your in a goldfish bowl for all to see including the bathroom which clearly needs frosted glass putting in the tv is well pathetic to say the least wonky unstable in a dark corner you have to drag it to the middle of the room to watch leaving various amounts of cabling exposed not a safe environment at all bed was comfy enough. first time used the shower it wasn't working complained only for the person i complained to trying to fob me off with an excuse that it's the room at the top of the hotel the pressure supply from outside is the problem God knows how they get water to the top of a skyscraper get it fixed i said miraculously it was when we returned must of turned the pressure up outside 😂😂well back to the hotel oops nearly forgot a £12 bottle of prosecco was left in the room let's move onto Christmas Lunch sat us in the middle room i think table for two mite as well of had our lunch in a bus station a party of 18 opposite say know more there were a few other things which it's not worth mentioning or maybe i would of mentioned all of this to some senior management if ide of seen any or been introduced to any in the three days instead of multinational staff who are oblivious to your needs checked out after having our last breakfast in a smoke filled room which stank perhaps make the coal fire up before service starts they could of easily because they certainly weren't cleaning the floors can't wait for your reply I'm sure you'll come up with some fantastic excuses instead accepting the constructive criticism which I've been honest about there's something about the lake district that know matter where you go the service is very poor there living on the thousands of tourists that pass through year on year and just don't give a hoot what they charge for what they supply will i stay hear again sadly not the management really need to take control of things.

My wife and I had a short break in the Lakes and this was a 15 minute walk from the hotel with good reviews so we tried it. Very glad we did, really good food, great service. Only wish we hadn’t had a starter as the main course was so big we couldn’t finish it. My starter was pressed goats cheese which was excellent, my wife had the soufflé which was also very good. For main, we shared the 32oz Lakeland Wing rib which was outstanding. For sides, we would recommend the carrot and swede crush and the bacon infused kale, both delicious. Too full for desserts so can’t comment! Only slight negative was we had to eat in the bar as the restaurant wasn’t open due to it being low season, the setting wasn’t quite as good as the food but we will definitely go back

After reading a number of good reviews on TripAdvisor, I had hopes this would be one of the best restaurants in Windermere. However, there were a number of odd issues. Firstly, on arrival at the deserted bar/dining area, no one on the staff seemed interested in serving us, more interested in their conversation with a local standing at the bar. We ordered drinks at the bar, and were presented with unopened bottles to poor ourselves. We decided to eat, given the reviews and again, decided to do so at the bar. Whilst a simple order, one complication seemed to be a request to switch chips on one dish for potatoes. Three members of staff later (I can only presume they didn't know what a potato was!) and we were told no, we have no potatoes, unless you want mash.... My confidence at this point on the quality of the meal was very low. The preceding wait proved amusing to us, not least as we got to observe what I can only describe as Fawlty Towers service as the staff struggled to serve a party of 6 at another table (that and us was it for the place) including an amusing 'serving' of warm bread from the microwave tray. This was followed by our receiving large side plates. A few minutes later with no bread apparent we asked what they were for.... and they were taken away again. On arrival, the food itself was reasonable. Nothing to shout about but no complaints either and hats off to the waiter (German chap, sorry didn't spot name) he was apologetic and friendly. In summary, if you fancy a laugh, probably just get a drink, otherwise it's one to avoid.

El café es más que Lamplighter restaurante, sin embargo el personal era agradable y la comida estaba bien. Hay mucha competencia en y alrededor de Windermere y por lo tanto este no sería un lugar que elegiría para volver.

We had wanted to book the dining room but it was already booked up on a Saturday night. I think the dining room may have been nicer decor but I can't fault the fish and chips, the service or the wine. Portions were great too. A very large fish so we didn't need a pudding. It was fairly busy but not over-priced. Well worth a visit.

Having looked at many places to stay in Windermere we decided the 'Lamplighter' ticked all the boxes for us. Situated very close to shops, bars & restaurants, had a car park, a restaurant & bar on site, within easy walking distance to buses & trains. Perfect. Our room was advertised as a deluxe double & we were really looking forward to our stay. We felt disappointed however. The reception area doesn't welcome you with open arms in fact its quite the opposite, drab & dated & a fusty smell, as is the dinning room, very bright lights, brown & cream decor which is cold and lacking atmosphere. Our room was ok but again in need of a lick of paint and a radiator that worked would have been nice. The breakfast when we eventually got it, was good. All in all the hotel needs to wake up & come alive. It really could be a fantastic place to stay but is very tired! We paid £99 per night b&b which we feel is over priced by quite a bit.For quite a bit less could have stayed in a much nicer place. This is just our opinion of course. Sadly it wouldn't be on our list of places to stay again. Having said all this our few days break in the surrounding area was very nice.

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞
