Used to come here a lot but wont be returning after the service we received today. Down right rude, enough to make me lose my appetite, ordered a coffee and left. Seems you only get good service if you are elderly and/or posh

Cannot thank Joan and her staff enough for the wonderful spread they provided for afternoon tea for my brother in law’s 65th birthday/retirement celebration today. As well as the best home baking ever, it was the personal touches that made it so special for my brother in law. Such beautiful surroundings, lovely floral table decoration and special birthday cake. We will be back

We had a great lunch with our young son. Good service in the small tea room with lovely soup, tasty cakes and a filling scone. Very cheap prices for the size of portions. All in the former larder of a huge castle. The castle is sadly a bit run down.

A lovely little characteristic cafe within Dalgetie Castle that seems to be very popular with the locals. We visited several times for afternoon coffee and cake while staying in one of the castle apartments for a week. We tried a different cake each time and they were all amazing! Would definitely recommend and the prices very reasonable too! Within the castle there is also a lovely little gift shop and you can pay a small fee for a self-guided tour of the castle which we found quite interesting. When we visited mid September 2022 it was open 10am-4pm, 7 days a week.

We hebben er heerlijk geluncht. Alles was vers bereid en dat was ook zeker te proeven. Een absolute aanrader om hier heen te gaan.

Visited here after walking our dog in the delgatie woods. Very pleasantly surprised! Lovely setting for a cafe/tearoom, we had a beautiful cream tea with scones. Proper tea served in teapots! Very friendly staff. They have quite a varied menu for lunch, afternoon tea etc. We didn't do the castle tour but will definitely be back. Open all year round apart from Christmas and new year.

Elderly person who served us had an utterly bizarre attitude which was off-putting and we won’t return. The lady came over to us and said absolutely nothing - no hello, no how are you, not even “what would you like?”, nothing! She walked over to our table and basically just looked at us. Me and my partner looked at each other a bit confused yet reeled off our tea/cake order anyway. The whole experience was very off-putting. There was an older, up-market english couple in the tea room who appeared to get much more chat and pleasantries from the waitress. Not impressed! Food was ok, nice, nothing special The likes of the Square Diner in Turriff is 10x better and only 2 miles further along by car. Service and our welcome, or rather lack-of, was totally unacceptable in summary...

Worth a visit for lunch or a cuppa and cake. Very friendly staff and good food....especially the cake. We will definitely be back, next time we will have a visit around the grounds and castle. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For all the rating section below...for some reason I can’t submit ratings for the service, food and value part.

Today I made the round trip of 80 miles from my home town to Delgatie Castle and back for the 124th time over 23 years. Why? Because the food at the Laird's Kitchen is worth the effort. Everything is home made every day on the premises (except the bread) and is served up with a smile and a chat if the staff are not too busy (which they often are - it's a popular place). For me it has to be the Cullen Skink first. I have never found a more creamy, flavoursome bowl of soup anywhere. After that I had macaroni, which was in a nice cheesy sauce and served with 3 pieces of garlic bread. There is also a choice of sandwiches, toasties, baked potatoes, or try the salmon with poached egg on a crumpet, served with salad, coleslaw and crisps. It's a delight. And always leave room for cake afterwards. The coffee cake knows no equal anywhere. The castle is not National Trust, and deserves to be supported. And why not have a walk in Delgaty Woods afterwards to help the food down. It's a great place to visit.

So we've all been to the National Trust properties/castles and been fleeced for a bowl of not home-made soup masquerading as home-made, and the rock hard dry as the Sahara scones... Well Laird's Kitchen is not one of those places. The charming castle aside, the Laird's Kitchen is just utterly extraordinary. The array of cakes available, the gorgeous choices form a nice lunch menu, and everything prepared using local ingredients where possible by a lady who really does know what she's doing in a kitchen. We were there on a very wet August day (what else do you expect for summer) and there were people who travelled from the surrounding area just for coffee or lunch - and I can understand why. If in Aberdeenshire, and you want something really nice and reasonable then this is a place you must look up. I can't wait to go back!

I have visited the Delgatie castle tearoom for many years with family as a patron of the trout fishery. The tearoom is situated in the foundations of the castle. You sit in incredibly thick arches surrounded by antique trinkets in what was once the kitchen Joan the proprietor is very knowledgeable and very happy to chat about the castle and items within. The cakes are generally home-made and delicious. There is no espresso coffee, but you do get nice coffee from a cafetière. It is by no means fancy, and a full meal isn't anything special, but a unique venue for coffee & cake and absorbing a millennia of Scotland's history.

So much better than the NTS ones in the area which are already good, this little cafe in the old castle kitchen takes it up a notch. Very reasonably priced for a lunch, good coffee and a pot of earl grey is a pot not a sip. Went for a special of poached egg, smoked salmon on crumpet with a great little side salad and coleslaw salad with mustard vinagrette dressing which was an excellent complement to the other flavors on the plate. Very cosy and not many tables all very good..

Having just moved to Turriff, I decided to go for lunch with my daughter on her birthday. We tried Williamson's Garden Centre first but (despite all the Aberdeenshire Council signage!) it has closed down. We then headed to the Laird's Kitchen at Delgatie Castle. Tentatively we found our way up the drive and through the castle doors to the tearoom. When we sat down we were made to feel very comfortable and enjoyed a tomato soup with herbs, Cullen skink and a delicious ploughman's sandwich. Including soft drinks it was £14 which seemed good value. I would be more than happy to recommend Delgatie Castle to our guests at Deveron Lodge in Turriff.

We were so delighted to discovered a freshly made scone and coffee when we arrived. It set us up for a wonderful visit round the castle where the cafe is situated. Then we went back for lunch and it was really impressive. Good, home made Scottish fare with very friendly staff who knew the castle well. All questions were fully answered and we were quite taken with the charm of the place.Although it was quite busy we were not rushed and had a most pleasant visit. There is a specials board as well as the regular menu. The coffee was excellent and there was no problem when we asked for hot water to drink. The cafe is fairly small but they deal with groups and do afternoon teas for booked in bus tours. The Laird's Kitchen is used for a Victorian Christmas Fare each year and we would love to go back for that!

Great place to stop for a break, whether you are out and about or staying on the grounds. The desserts are wonderful! For those who start at the other end of the food spectrum, the soups are among my favorites, and the sandwiches are quite tasty.

The title says it all. This is NOT award winning cuisine as the claim on their website. It is standard tearoom fayre cooked and served to a very poor standard

Just had the best Vintage Afternoon Tea ever. Lovely friendly service. Sandwiches, sausage rolls, savoury tarts, cream scones, cakes, meringues.... my list could go on. Couldn't finish everything and the lovely lady put the cakes in a box for us to take home. Booking is a must as was very busy. Also serve lunch. Will definitely be back.

See my review of Dalgatie castle.Lovely little cafe in Castle. Very friendly staff. Tolerated our noisy brood without losing a smile. Food came quickly and split an adult serving for us between two kids. No complaints at all, except perhaps cullen skink needed more fish in it. We loved it and will be back.

We stopped at Delagtie Castle to have lunch. Laird's Kitchen offers a simple yet delicious lunch break. I had a poa hed egg, cooked to perfection, which was served on a "crumpet" a sort of pancake but much thicker. Next there were two slices of smoked salmon, coleslaw, plus a few slices of tomato, cucumber, and salad leaves. Simple and delicious! Worth the detour!!!

After revisiting the Lairds Kitchen today I am pleased to confirm that their Cullen Skink is the best I have tasted anywhere in the world. The home made cakes are so good it is difficult to chose which is best. The food quality exceeds most 5 star hotels and the the location within a historic Scottish Castle is unique. The food is excellent value for money

As I live not much more than 14 miles from Delgatie Castle, I frequently pop in for a cuppa and either a meal or a piece of the wonderful home baking for which the Laird's Kitchen wins awards. The choice of teas includes Jasmine, which I very much appreciate, and the meals are innovative (e.g., Stornoway Haggis smothered in mushrooms in sauce, on pancakes) and have vegetarian options also ... the omelettes and baked potatoes are very generously filled and of course there are toasties, etc., too. The Cream Teas are really yummy! Whatever you want to know about the history of the Castle and its rescue from decay - just ask. You'll not be a bother, both Joan, the trustee and Donna, a volunteer, are always keen to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with you.I've been around the Castle itself a few times now, once to get a real feel for its history and other times to enjoy the super Christmas Craft Fairs which spread throughout the castle for 2 weekends each year. It's small but worth the time to explore. There are also lovely walks in the surrounding woods, and, should you wish to stay there's accomodation.

A friend and I found this spot on the way back to Alford from Glasgow. We stopped in expecting the normal cafe style food. Boy were we wrong! We both had the unpretentious sounding ham, egg and tatties. What we got was perfectly cooked pork belly. Crispy and creamy pomme anna, a stunning apple and radish roumalade and the most delicious hollandaise foam. It was amazing. Everything on the plate married beautifully together and left us replete with forest flavours chasing around our mouths. The staff are just lovely. Welcoming and warm. And the cafe itself is a great place to kick back and relax. We can’t recommend this enough. PS. I bought my husband here two days later and he was equally impressed.
