Lai Yin Cantonese Takeaway in Birmingham

First time geting food from there it was amazing fast cooking and I'd highly recommend trying it.

chow main tasted burnt and was very very dark in color. Fried rice tasted like it was stale and very tasteless. crispy shredded chicken wasn’t edible at all. And as for the lady that takes the orders at the counter she needs to learn some people skills!!

Used to love the food but havnt been back since they were given 1 star for food hygiene. Went back in for the first time in years. Asked for a menu told online only but dont use uber or just eat. The menu online is just a list on google with no prices. Very bad service i went somewhere else

So, I have been ordering from here for years, but tonight the food along with the service was shocking. My food took a long time to arrive, almost an hour, which is unusual for Lai Yin, but when it did most of the meals was cold including the chips and the food had to be microwaved. I literally live about 4-5 mins away from the takeaway so having cold food is a little concerning. Anyway back to the food, so we noticed the samosas were very dark and greasy and not crunchy but very soggy along with the spring rolls which were also soggy and cold, same with the chips, this was probably due to sitting around in the bag getting cold, who knows? Also the chow meins were very dark in colour along with the rice and food wasn't as tasty as it usually is. Now for the kicker, so one person in my party had a chicken fried rice that had to be microwaved as it was quite cold, after they plated their food and began to eat it, on the second mouth full they heaved and pulled out a black hair from their mouth, this was wrapped around a piece of chicken, this grossed us all out and all the food got spoilt as it put us off all our meals, so it all ended up in the bin and we ordered from elsewhere.. Lai Yin should be ashamed! We will no longer order from here again I'm afraid as the service and the food quality was abysmal, tonight Lai Yin you let yourselves down!!

We have been using this Chinese for years and the food is fantastic but the last 2 weeks the girl who takes the order is very rude. Her attitude is horrible … yeah! yeah! yeah! that’s all she says then puts the phone down literally before you finish talking .. wonder if anyone else has notice. The other girl was lovely…

This place as gone down hill over the past 4 months, the pork is really fatty the beef like rubber and the chicken is waterie with no flavor, the curry is slimey and the rice is all pre_cooked and dry. We orderd food 2night and it was delivered 20mins later but we live 10 mins away SO NO WAY COULD THE FOOD OF BIN COOKED FROM FRESH IN 10 MINS IMPOSSIBLE. FOOD TASTED VILE.. sorry to say but wont be ordering from here again and my advice is Dont waist your money... STAY CLEAR..

Only been here a few times now and we’ve not had a bad dish, you can watch them cook it up in front of you (so you can see the cleanliness of the kitchen). Staff are friendly. Tasty and good value for money.

Absolutely vile first time trying food from here never again, curry sauce is tasteless not even like curry sauce and the rice all mushy never again!

Tried this place and was delighted by the food. I had sweet and sour chicken with fried rice excellent. My husband had chicken curry and fried rice also excellent. Unlike the Hong Kong inn this place accepts cards and easier to park. Food was made fresh. Highly recommend.

Ordered for the the first time from Lai Yin ... Mixed starter was way over cooked. Chicken and mushroom curry had alot of bone on the chicken. Overall this was a waste of money and it went in the bin . Only used Lai Yin because our regular takeaway were on holiday. Shall be sticking with our regular from now on 👎👎

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! ONE OF THE WORST MEALS I HAVE HAD. I placed a big order here as my local had let me down recently! This was awful and made my local look like a Michelin star restaurant! The food was GREASY and SALTY, with no care gone into the food. The presentation of the food was some of the worst I have seen, the salt and pepper chicken and all moulded into one as it was so sticky and greasy. The Salt and pepper chips were some of the worst chips I have seen. How you manage to get chips that wrong is beyond me! COLD and literally no seasoning, just salt salt salt and some chunks of green chilli. The curry sauce was so thick, in came out like jelly on the plate, I had to add water and mix to loosen it up, I may as well have got The £1 one from the supermarket. I would rather have no food than this food .

Lovely welcome and great food. The young lady who helped take my order was very pleasant. I even got a treat from chef with my order. Very nice indeed.

Absolutely terrible customer service… once again I order food to come with out vegetables… once again sent with!! Again the incompetence of the lady who answer the phone… denies it was said!!! Honestly an absolute farce!!!

This place has become my new favourite Chinese recently. Great food, good price, staff are friendly and delivery is super quick.

Had a chicken and mushroom curry with egg fried rice 21/9/23. Tasted terrible I think they forgot to curry paste in curry it just tasted of oil no spice at all and the egg rice was all mushy and tasteless too . I was very disappointed . Think the chef needs to taste the sauces before selling . The chicken portions/ chunks were the only positive thing but couldn't eat them as the sauce was terrible and threw it away .

Fantastic food, super quick and friendly service at a good price. Consistently our order is ready within 10 to 12 minutes, so the food is always so fresh. Crispy batter, crunchy veg and lots of piping hot meat everytime. There's no gloopy sauces either. They have a modern ordering system so they know who I am the moment I call. I'm always greeted politely and an order for two people gets complimentary crackers, spring rolls and chicken wings. Finally I appreciate the open kitchen behind the desk which is always clean and let's you watch the chefs at work, usually with several woks on the go.

Ordered chicken balls and special ried rice came to 15 pounds what a rip off and the food wasn't all that dry, the sweet n sour sauce is like water, way to many chicken balls for one person, rice could eat fried rice all day, when it first opened the food was amazing, but now OK but only OK

There very nice we ordered two portions of chips and some spring rolls and they gave us some prawn crackers and some samosas for free!! Not lots of vegetarian options but still good

I have ordered from this takeaway for years, but unfortunately last Thursday 1st December, I had the chicken, king prawns & rice dish, with ribs, I have regularly, my daughter & her partner also had same, but without the prawns, within a few hours I was ill, and still just getting over my illness, went to doctors on Monday, & I have food poisoning, she recommended me to call them & let them know so it doesn’t happen to anyone else. I tried last night for the owner putting phone down on me. So called again for a girl to answer and I was trying to explain, could hear shouting in background from owner & the girl said, she was sorry can’t help me unless I wanted to prefer& put the phone down. So now they leave me getting over a real bad illness no apology and for me to take things further. Years of custom to you & this is the response I get. 😡😠

First time we have used this takeaway having used all the other Chinese takeaways in the area over the last 40 years and never being quite satisfied. The portions here are huge and the variety of different dishes is vast. Our food was beautiful, we even received free drink and a bag of starters. Definitely be back for more.

Singapore Chow main lovely, loads of assorted meat large portions. Also Shredded Crispy Beef is so tasty. Definitely have it again. Very satisfied.

Best chinese round here. Only problem is its become so popular they can't handle the demand at a weekend. If they say it's gunna be ready in 20, bank on 40mins. Other than that spot on 👌

Oh my gosh. Gorgeous food!! The crispy shredded beef is the best I've had! Everything was tasty, crispy and fresh and was ready super quickly too. Now my new favourite take away.

Absolutely disgusting ! Special curry - the sauce didn’t even taste like curry and was overloaded with some tough as old boots steak like meat. Fried rice was all pasty and stuck together. Large spring roll was made from Soggy fish/chip type batter instead of crispy filo type as traditionally made. Whole lot went in bin and will definitely not be returning, makes me feel sick thinking of it whilst writing this review.

Absolutely disgusting, first time ordered from there Egg fried rice must be hours old and all stuck together Chicken curry takes like paste Chicken chow mein is just on another level of disgusting Chicken balls aren't the usual batter and is so sickly Never ordering from here again unless I want food poisoning! Let's just say the whole meal went in the bin minus the odd mouth full to try the food! Would put 0 stars if I could doesn't even deserve a star!
