La Terra in Bath and North East Somerset

On my own (work trip to Bath) and wondered in - stumbled on one of the best meals of my life. Scallops, venison and tiramisu. All three astoundingly brilliant.

Delicious food, wonderful ambience, excellent service.

We were staying in London and chose to make a day visit to Bath. We spent the day walking around the town, including a tour provided by The Mayor of Bath's Corp s of Honorary Guides. We had investigated restaurants in Bath and selected this restaurant due to its menu and the apparent capacity to meet our dietary limitations. We booked an "earlier" dinner at 6:00 pm. We noticed that there was nearly no one at the restaurant when we arrived, but gradually filled as we reach dessert. We decided to start with the Nibbles: bread; olives' and a lamb shoulder croquette. The butter was basil green and very good. We tried the celeriac and apple soup, the burrata and the butternut squash risotto (light on the pasta). For mains, we enjoyed the Sole with seasonal vegetables, and the Cinghiale and Granchio pastas. We finished up with dessert (one of which came from the Vegan menu). The wait staff was wonderful. The food was perfectly prepared and presented. The wine list was long and varied. It is a place that we would love to revisit regularly if we could. The dining room is not large but not crowded and it is centrally located. It was an absolute pleasure.

This restaurant is a gem. Friendly staff. We were served by Nino who was both charming and knowledgeable. The food is innovative and tasty with complex flavours - the Chef has real skill. We started with Scallops (the best that I have had in a UK restaurant), Venison tartare with pickled mushrooms and celeriac, cherry puree and blackberries, not a combination that I have ever had before but which worked perfectly. Our mains were the fish special and squid ink pasta with crab meat. Both delicious. We shared a panna cotta for dessert, also delicious. Recommended. Just a delightful meal. Definitely worth a visit.

Had the Cervo. Poor cut of meat, undercooked, and lacked flavour. Vegetables were hit and mis. Extremely let down for an expensive dish

Had a gorgeous evening here for our anniversary last year. The location is charming and intimate, the food was delicious, the staff were very attentive and personable and the portion sizes were perfect. Will definitely be going back with our family. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Excellent meal out, the best we have had in a long time. It isn't your usual Italian with a list of pasta and pizza dishes, this is Italian fine dining, so don’t come expecting a menu like you would get at Pizza Express. The short menu means that instead of many options, they have a limited range that they prepare beautifully. The staff were friendly, balancing being attentive whilst not being too imposing. In particular, Kammie (I hope I spelled that right) took real care of us and was helpful, friendly and welcoming. I would completely recommend this restaurant if you enjoy good dining in a welcoming, comfortable environment.

This was a birthday treat for my friend. We ordered from the set lunch menu (£30 for 2 courses and £35 for 3 courses). The food was delicious. The wine we ordered from a good wine list was great. We were well looked after by the staff. La Terra reminded me of the best restaurants I've eaten in, in Italy. We had Burrata and Croquette to start, Anatra and Risotto for mains and Cioccolato for dessert.

Great lunch experience - the fish was amazing!

Great atmosphere (even on what felt like a quiet Wednesday in town), super friendly and attentive staff, and fantastic food! The basil butter is so so good, we had the burrata and lamb croquette to start, followed by the mushroom/guanciale gnocchi and Gorgonzola wild boar ragu. Everything was spot on and sadly we didn’t have space for dessert! Everything on the menu sounded delicious so we will be back!

Authentic Italian dishes and a cozy atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit they have unique options! We tried the celeriac soup , croquette , papardelle and gnocchi. All of them were quite tasty !

A memorable lunch is not just about food and wine - it's about a pleasant, happy experience. Lunch recently at La Terra was our third visit to this unassuming but very impressive restaurant. The food itself was spectacular - in looks as well as taste - and the wines (both Palermitano vineyards and both available by the glass) little short of excellent. What made the pre-theatre lunch perfect, however, was our waiter/maitre d'hotel, Nino. A Sicilian, imbued with every aspect of that island's tradition of hospitality, he carefully explained the subtleties of the two menus on option, made recommendations when asked and ensured we were making informed choices without at any point seeking to explain what we already knew. A heavy accent is an inevitable consequence of his background but I take my hat off to him for the very clearly enunciated explanations and interaction throughout the meal. Apparently some people have complained about his English, which I find a churlish attitude that is becoming increasingly tiresome in our entitlement society. If my command of Italian was anywehere near as good as Nino's command of English - or, more importantly, his innate capability to be hospitable, attentive and informative simultaneously - I would die a happy man. Bravo Nino - thank you - and bravo La Terra. A favourite spot for excursions to Bath - we'll be back!

Recently ate here and was so pleased with the food. I’d heard great things and it fully lived up to the hype I’d been given. The set lunch menu is fantastic value if you’re looking for a lunchtime treat. My friend also had the vegan menu as she’s dairy free and she loved it.

We visited La Terra last night and we had a fabulous time. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, but the food! It was amazing! There were four of us, we had the mixed starter, 2 had the filet steak, one had the venison and one had the gnocchi. Each dish was expertly executed and obviously quality ingredients. To finish we had tiramisu, gelato, afragato and zabalione, again they were delicious. Thank you so much for an amazing experience! Can’t recommend this delightful restaurant enough

The menu at this restaurant is not extensive but that means they concentrate on the wonderful food on offer. I had the best pasta dish I have eaten anywhere - the squid ink linguine with crab and seafood sauce was absolutely divine. Other dishes looked wonderful too. Our mains of fish of the day was beautifully presented and delicious. Booking probably essential as it’s not a huge place . The service was excellent . It is quite expensive but worth it. Highly recommended.

We booked here for lunch and enjoyed fabulous service from all the friendly, professional helpful and accommodating staff something which is not always easy to achieve. The restaurant had a lovely warm atmosphere. We opted for the fixed price lunch menu which is great value. The menu is not huge which we prefer as it’s definitely a sign food is freshly prepared and cooked to order from the open kitchen and there was something to suit all tastes. Portion sizes are very good, the Lamb Croquetts were absolutley delicious as was the ‘special’ pasta dish all perfectly cooked and with great flavours. The wine list and wines by the glass were also excellent, we enjoyed a large glass each (which the staff were happy to accommodate rather than the listed regular size of glass) of the Primitivo and the Nero d’Avolo. We will be returning again and highly recommend, suggest booking as the restaurant was busy.

Very welcoming restaurant and friendly family staff. Limited menu (which can be good). Both our mains of Gnocchi and Brixham Halibut were not hot, the fish being tasty but the Gnocchi was totally tasteless. Didn't stop for a pudding! Overrated with heavy markup of food and wine. For one indifferent course in excess of £100!

This restaurant well deserves 5 stars and I would give it more if I could. As someone with multiple food intolerances, eating out can be complicated. The manager/owner and the staff went out of the way to prepare a delicious fish of the day for me, taking into account my intolerances. They also kindly brought me a complimentary soup starter when they realised I couldn't eat the dipping bread and oil. My husband's filet of beef was beautifully tender and lean. The decor and ambiance are warm and welcoming. It was refreshing to be in an establishment where the staff were genuinely concerned about providing a great dining experience and where great pride was taken in providing great quality dishes.

One of our two favourite restaurants in Bath. Cosy Italian, serving up beautiful food (with the option of a brilliant vegan menu if preferred). Lovely Italian wine selection, friendly service. Perfect for date night.

Food was so lovely. Got a vegan menu (can’t eat egg or cheese very sad I know) and a regular menu and the dishes on both were excellent! Everything was super fresh and tasty. The pear endive salad from the vegan menu and the venison tartar were both fabulous.

Can’t give this five stars since Clayton’s Kitchen, with much the same menu, was so much better, except the tiramisu dessert at La Terra was better. Kind of sad they were out of their best wine (a restaurant should never let this happen!), but the amarone was good. Dishes were all very good, no real complaints, but not great. Service neglected refilling wine and water glasses. Nice ambiance, and the owner takes care of you. Very odd we were celebrating a special occasion but no one mentioned it.

Amazing food and service was so friendly.

Recommended in the Good Food Guide and we can see why. Not a huge choice on the menu but was difficult to choose as everything sounded delicious. We agreed to order different dishes so we could at least have a taste of each other’s. Every dish was well balanced and perfectly cooked. The wine menu was limited but brilliantly matched for the food and very reasonably priced. The front of house team were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. This will be our first reservation next time we are in Bath.

Lovely atmosphere. I really enjoyed the taste combinations used. I had the set lunch menu £30 per head. Started with the chesnut and onion soup. Hot, creamy and very tasty served with toasted sourdough bread. My next course was the pasta of the day which was butternut squash with pork ragu and a parmesan cheese sauce. The combination of flavours really worked well. Nice to see chefs using their taste buds rather than following a recipe. Well worth the visit.

Brilliant lunch in a lovely setting. Food to a high standard and cooked fresh, server gave fantastic recommendations. We were 15 minutes late for the reservation due to Bath being extremely busy, but on arrival after phoning to let them know, they were so accommodating and made us feel at ease. The tiramisu was gorgeous and we didn’t feel rushed. We will be back. Thank you!

We had not been before but were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and attentive and good food. A little gem. My only criticism there was no indication on the menu what dishes were gluten free and vegetarian, quite important since pasta and gnocchi are not gluten free and this is an Italian restaurant.

Superb service, amazing food and generally well worth a visit. I had Scallops which were cooked to perfection . I then had a tasty pasta. Others had the fish of the day which looked superb. We went on to have coffee. The cocktails were beautifully presented and very tasty. The service was always with a smile and our waitress was very helpful and patient as the menu all looked great and we couldn't make our minds up. You should go!

Absolutely delicious authentic Italian food, great service and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended and probably the best place to eat in Bath. My favourite was the steak truffle, but all 5 of us enjoyed our varying starters, mains and deserts! Don’t miss out, book your table now!

I had three différent meals at La Terra : fish, méat and pasta...these guys deserve a one Michelin star. Absolutely perfect !

Absolutely brilliant food and experience

Very cute atmosphere with great service and wonderful foods. I really liked the gnocchi I had which was not the traditional way gnocchi is made but it was just as good and very delicious. My husbands pasta dish was also amazing. The tiramisu was also not a traditional tiramisu but very good.

We had the bread, pasta, lamb, ice cream and the parfait with a bottle of wine… everything was divine and my photos don’t do it justice. There were 3 types of bread and they provided both the oil and the basil butter because I’m vegan and my partner is not. He said the basil butter was fluffy and flavorful. The focaccia was airy with the lightly crisped top. My pasta was mouthwatering, I have no idea what was in the green sauce but I need it bottled and the pasta itself was expertly cooked with just the right amount of bite. The lamb looked divine (even though I don’t eat meat) the potatoes had goats cheese sprinkled throughout. Every bit of our plates was cleaned at the end but when they offered us dessert, we knew it was going to be good so we continued. The affogato was creamy and light. The parfait thing had all the right textures with little bits of crunch sprinkled throughout. It tasted like summer. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was cozy and everything you want when eating something so delicious. Nothing about it was pretentious like you might find at restaurants with this high of a rating. I’m really glad I got to experience eating here. The starters and the dessert photos were taken after we had already started eating.

Honestly the best place to eat in Bath, the service is top-notch and the food is AMAZING, beautiful smell of fresh bread and wonderful staff. They are super dog friendly and gave my dog treats and water. Best place to eat. The photo below is just one of the many delicious foods at La Terra. 💯💯💯

Food was absolutely incredible. Steak was cooked perfectly and the vegetable combo with olives and pesto was so different but incredible. Lamb also beautifully done. Their bread selection to start was some of the nicest I’ve ever had. Lovely service and 10/10 over all.

La Terra in Bath provided a solid evening, albeit with a few hiccups. Upon arrival, it took a full hour before we were graced with our first course. But considering we turned up right after England’s triumphant penalty shootout against Switzerland, alongside half the city, I’m willing to give them a pass on this one. The venue itself is a charming, compact space spread over a few floors, adorned with rustic, earthy decor that feels fittingly authentic given the restaurant’s name. It's cozy without being cramped, and the ambiance has a warm, inviting vibe. The food? Let's start with the scallops. Four perfectly cooked morsels, accompanied by an array of sauces and flavors that were both fresh and intriguing. For the main course, I opted for the lamb. Cooked to perfection, it came paired with goat cheese and potatoes, creating a delightful combination of flavors and textures. Pleasant and satisfying, if not revolutionary. Service, despite the initial delay, was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. The staff managed to strike that ideal balance of being present without hovering, which is always appreciated. In all, La Terra delivered a good experience. It may have been a bit slow off the mark, but given the circumstances, it was a commendable performance. Worth a visit, especially if you're in the mood for some hearty, well-prepared fare in a lovely setting.

The set menu is an excellent option and value. One small suggestion for desert: the whole menu looked amazing but I didn’t have enough space to try everything, I would have definitely got a “café gourmand” if it was available.

La Terra. What can one say. It's just fantastic. Being on holiday and after a day walking around Bath, we fancied something special. After looking around numerous places, we picked La Terrra. We hadn't booked but were welcomed in and looked after by all the staff. The three of us had different dishes, I chose the Brixham catch of the day, and none of us were disappointed. Recommended

Great location, very good service. We arrived at the restaurant at 1730 and it was raining outside. The staff welcomed us and seated us as the restaurant was only open at 1800. Good recommendation from the staff member. Very appealing and delicious dish. Would definitely visit again when we come to Bath next time.

The vegan menu dishes clearly have so much intention into their creation and meat free options did not at all feel like an afterthought. Very fairly priced for the quality and caliber of the meal

A stand out Italian resto in Bath. Delicious plates, we had the lamb, squid ink spaghetti with crab, alongside olives and the bread to start. Particularly loved the basil butter. Service was warm and friendly. Wine and negronis also 5*. Look forward to returning, this time with room for the chocolate mousse!

Brilliant meal, great service and opportunity for me to use my basic Italian. Probably the best Italian meal, I've had outside Italy.
