Excellent food served by very pleasant staff.

Went for my daughters birthday to Michelangelos. Quite busy for a weekday evening, locals, groups, families. One of the owners was present working the floor. Food was good, the decor and the prices have changed since last time we were there sort of 10 for a pizza 13 upwards for a mains. Serving staff attentive. All good.

Had a lovely night food was excellent and staff were lovely definitely be back again x

Seeing Simon obviously is always 1st class. Early food /bar service sadly wasn't as good as last time. Still will return for Simon. 💃

Food was divine, service made us feel like royalty and the atmosphere was perfect. The minestrone soup was quite possibly the best thing I've ever tasted, great value, friendly staff who did their best to meet every request. I wish I could rate it higher.

We ate from the early bird menu, which was excellent value at £9.95 for 3 courses. All the dishes were tasty and good sized portions. My son loved the home made chicken soup and the pizzas and pasta were delicious. I had pasta with asparagus and green veg and it was fresh and tasty. The service was fast and friendly. Loved it.

Terrible service. Booked a table for four at 6.30. arrived to be told no table available but to have a drink at the bar. At 7.00 again told no table available, but we could eat outside. We agreed and were led outside and left. 30 minutes later and still nobody arrived to take our order. Finally seated at 7.30. food is good but the service makes the trip pointless. Starters finally arrived at 8.00. It's now 21.07 and still waiting for the main courses.

The food was excellent. But we had to wait an hour and a half for our food after given our order dur to our chitty being misplaced.

Big shame - service just too slow, 45 minute wait for potato skins is no good. Asked for extra chilli on one pizza but there was none added, asked for bill, waited another 15 minutes - then had to go pay at desk to escape. Didn't even bother with the dessert I'd paid for. Shame as we'd had some nice times there over the years. Staff were friendly and I enjoyed my food. Some of my family weren't so keen.

Brilliant friendly staff, nice relaxing atmosphere. with a pool table and sky T.V and a lovely fire place to cosey up to on those colder evenings.

Can't tell you how nice this meal was. We 3 all had pasta, perfectly al dente, and three different sauces, all to die for. It would have been a 5 star experience but for the chill in the room, I had to pop my coat on. We'll be back on a warmer day!

Popped in tonight as is only a 10 min walk from our estate. Had a few beers and 2 mains. Food incredibly unexpectedly delicious! Staff very friendly and pleasant. Best of all was the music. For 2 and a half hours the music was unreal! Very reasonably priced. Will 100% be back.

Came here with the wife (and a soft toy lobster) for a few beers and some food on Bank Holiday Weekend. Lived just around the corner for 7 years and never been in before. Pleasantly surprised. Lass being the bar with tattoos friendly, beers decent and reasonably priced, and food actually was pretty damn tasty. Had the Lebanese Mixed Grill. All meat tasty and well cooked. I’ll be back! 👍

Went for a family birthday, had to ask 3 times for the music to be turned down as we could hardly hear each other speak. Waiter was a very polite Italian chap, however, his English isnt very good and couldnt understand what we wanted to order, possibly not helped by the very loud music. Orders took a very long time to come, almost an hour between starter and mains. Then half our order came, waited another 5 minutes for other half of the groups order to come for it to be wrong, as the waiter hadnt understood and brought the wrong thing. Very polite young lady sorted it out but we wont be back.

All fourteen of us had a lovely meal with first class friendly service.we look forward celebrating many more occasions at this very family friendly venue.

Visited through the week and the place was dead. It was so dead, we thought that no staff were working as it took ages for anyone to even realise we were there and to be seated. Considering there was only one other table seated when we arrived, everything took ages, from ordering drinks, to ordering food, for the food to arrive..... I wish I had gone for something off the children's menu because the kids had the best meals out of everyone else!

We ate here with friends as we’d been before and enjoyed it. On arrival, the place was dead, we must have waited ten minutes for a member of staff to come to seat us, we thought the place had closed down. The waiter was pleasant but didn’t understand all English so couldn’t take the orders properly. The food was a huge disappointment, the pizzas were covered in grease as though they’d been fried! The seafood dish we had with mussels had a closed mussel and the prawns were very over cooked.

We went to the Pieri restaurant not the attached La Taverna. We had a really nice evening. We went for the tea time special so it was only £8.95 for three courses. All of our food was really tasty and was really good value, I had the bruschetta, vegetable pasta and the fruit salad. The portions sizes were good for all three courses with plenty of vegetables and fruit. There was a good atmosphere and the staff were friendly and hard working especially Karen. The coffee was not so good but we would definitely go back again. In fact I could eat it all again.

Visited for lunch with a friend. Had a lovely kleftico. Staff very friendly too. Ideal for a quick lunch with friends.

Love the tapas here, great value for money! Very friendly service and the warm, mediterranean atmosphere makes you feel as if you're in a taverna on holiday. Fab find. Great with the children but also a great night with friends (youve got to try their cocktails!), love the live music on a friday! See you soon!

Sham-bolic! This place is a complete joke. As a group of 11 we’d booked a table in the restaurant for 8:30pm to have a Saturday evening Xmas party meal. However, we ended up all crammed around a table in the centre of the main bar with loud music pumping and 2 incompetent bar ladies trying to serve us. - Apparently, even though we’d pre-booked the restaurant was too busy as they’d over-booked! In the dim light the place looked ‘manky’ and we waited and waited and waited until eventually around 9:30 we were served our meals. Unfortunately by then, after sampling the dirty glasses, dirty toilets and incompetent staff the scene was already set, so the main courses were never going to impress! By this time none of us felt confident enough to order a starter and the main courses were poor. Cold plates, lumpy mash... oh, and when we questioned why there were no yorkshire puddings we were simply told they had been burnt!!!! No apologies whatsoever. None of this was deducted from the bill so to avoid embarrassment we just paid up and left because the place felt so ‘hostile’ and ‘uncomfortable’. All in all an experience I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy and my wife and I will certainly never ever recommend nor return to this horrific place.

Popped in to try the Sunday lunch. It really was very poor. I've worked in care homes and hospitals, and this food reminded me of that. Tasteless and overcooked. Stick to pasta and pizza. And when will the San Miguel ever come back? Please!

Such a lovely restaurant and lots of choice from Italian as well as traditional English. New seating area has just been built.

We had a 15th Wedding anniversary party at La Tav... wow is all I can say.. we brought our own music along and had the tunes going when the amazing live singer wasn't belting out some great songs... unbelievable atmosphere from start to finish. Amazing staff.... everyone was very helpful throughout the night... FOOD ...best food I've ever had at a party.... everything to die for .... slow cooked stew ...meatballs.. chips Pizza...pasta etc and more...exactly what we wanted... nice real ales...2 4 1 cocktails on Wednesday and Fridays... thanks so much to Giacomo and Jay for everything... 10/10 from us....will live long in the memory thanks guys

Went to michealangelos for a family lunch we were the only party in when we ordered however a large family group came in. We received two of the three meals ordered and waited and waited. By the time we managed to flag down a waiter to inquire the meals were cold. They had forgot the third meal and blamed the chef for this mistake although the waiters should have noticed that they had only brought two meals. They stated they were going to prepare it now to which I cancelled the order since we had waited 45minutes for the two meals. There were no concessions made to the bill for the two meals even though one had to be put in a doggy bag to be taken home and reheated. Very poor customer service on a quiet day would hate to see what it's like when busy.

Sometimes the blinkers lead you down a usual path and sometimes you open your eyes a little wider and find something new. As a regular to Restaurant Michelangelo, we've now discovered the door in the corner which takes you into a completely different environment where the same menus are available. What a great addition to an already great place.

He estado aquí un par de veces - la primera visita fue para una fiesta con un buffet y recientemente para bebidas cumpleaños con amigos. En ambas ocasiones fue muy buena y el personal es particularmente agradable y servicial. Aparentemente hay cantantes cada fin de semana y la señorita cantando la última noche fue excelente. Todos hemos decidido hacer de este uno de nuestros sitios turísticos.

Asistimos a una fiesta de cumpleaños aquí la semana pasada. El ambiente era genial. El personal no podía hacer lo suficiente para ayudar. La comida era un buffet caliente, muy sabroso y variado, y también un montón de ensaladas y bocadillos. La fiesta fue en una zona separada y sillas de ruedas y aseos accesibles. Sin duda, volveríamos de nuevo a probar la comida.

I went to La Taverna on Friday evening and had a delicious fish meal. Starting with king prawn and chorizo kebab and Tuscan fish stew for main. Melt in the mouth and more than I could manage.I returned on Sunday and had a mixed meat kebab which was as good as any mixed grill I have ever had. It was served with roast potatoes and salad. Looking on the special menu is to be advised as the quality is unmistakable and excellent value for the price.

I don't normally write reviews but thought I should after last night. Me my wife 2 kids and friends went to Michaelangelos / La Taverna for NYE party. We had an absolutely great time. Everything was excellent, the welcome, the food, the service, the staff, the entertainment. I just wanted to say well done in a great night and thank you.

What a find this place was.We were greeted by a very pleasant lady who was extremely attentive and helpful.The menu had a varied choice and we really enjoyed the food we had. It was all excellent value too.We will return!

This is a nice restaurant just off the main road between Blaydon and Ryton. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is good. There is ample parking available and a good menu with daily specials.

Having read mixed reviews we went not expecting much. Imagine our delight to find a very extensive menu, relatively speedy service, friendly efficient staff, good sized portions, great value for money and VERY tasty food. The lamb shank Moroccan style was super and it came with extra freshly cooked veg. The greek salad was a decent size for the price of a side salad. The lasagne was tasty and the souvlaki was very good. The beers were great too. We are only in the area for a week but already considering going back here for another meal. A good find.

I agree with the recent review it could do with brightening up but the food (we had the tapas) was nice enough if not spectacular. Staff were friendly though will come again as we live quite close

This is a nice place to come for food and drinks, the tapas is really good here and I recommend the muscles and prawns. The decoration is ok it could be brightened up a little bit. All staff that work here are really friendly and polite. However when they are busy they are really slow and careless and abit unsure on what to do.

A perfect place to enjoy with friends or family. A good choice for real ale fans with 4 hand pulls on! The kids love the attention given by the friendly staff especially that Jay bloke!!!

Since discovering La Taverna a couple of weeks ago, I've been in a number of times. The amount of choice on their menus surpasses anything I've seen elsewhere, and the prices are incredibly reasonable too. The staff can not do enough for you, and are very nice and friendly. On our last visit there was a particularly unpleasant family (they were not from the North East, so I wouldn't worry about bumping into them on your next visit to La Taverna! :-)) who were being very rude to the staff for no reason at all, but even they were treated with warmth and respect by the staff themselves. This really is a fantastic venue and I can see myself spending many evenings here.

I cannot recommend La Taverna enough! And cannot understand why it is always so quiet.The food is absolutely delicious with an extensive menu too. Cannot fault the staff at all, so attentive, friendly, and welcoming. A real gem!

A good selection of local ales, great atmosphere, great value and friendly staff. Food was ok but the chicken menu has recently changed, replaced with a very limited selection and none of the great sauce options that were available previously.

Found this place by accident when the restaurant next door was full and WOW, what a find. Great atmosphere, great food (3 tapas for £10), great real ale and staff that simply can't do enough for you. 10/10 guys - will come back soon.

Friendly staff and not bad food. Good beer. One of the most bizarre places I've ever visited: "La Taverna Real Ale and Chicken Bar". Isn't "taverna" a Spanish word? Do they drink real ale in Spain? Is real ale typically coupled with chicken? Anyway, doesn't matter - it's bizarre in an endearing kind of way.

Went here to eat after having an amazing staff night out at the Italian Restaurant. Amazing food and very friendly staff. Their Tapas are devine and very well cooked, their potatoes in spicy tomato sauce is very spicy, but tastes really nice. The mushrooms in chorizo and creamy sauce were very nice, and the lamb dish was cooked to perfection. My husband had a classic burger with gorgonzola, he loved every bite of it from bite one, the beef was cooked perfectly. Would definitely recommend either restaurant to anyone. I had the paella for one, which was very nice, the prawns were perhaps a little overcooked but the lobster made up for it. Our daughter loved her homemade chips and pizza which was really nice, not overcooked or undercooked at all. The ale choice was decent.

Just had a great meal at LaTraverna. We ordered the salt and chili roast chicken... Delicious. They have a very good menu with plenty of choice to suit all palates .They also have a excellent choice of real ales , if you like dark beers you must try the mocha stout ,full of taste.Love the old Mediterranean feel and decor . The staff are so friendly and helpful . It's one of our favourite eating places.

Myself and my mother visited La Taverna a few weeks ago. We were well looked after and given lots of choice on the tapas menu. The food was lovely all fresh and very tasty. There was also a huge choice of drinks available from lovely wines to real ales! Overall it's a very friendly inviting place to go with great staff

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon lateish. Was greeted like old friends and ordered drinks. Had a look at the food options, and there was plenty of choice. Ordered the Sunday lunches. Good portions, well cooked (not boiled to death) veg, lovely Yorkshire puds and gravy. The place is decorated in a style reminiscent of an old Meditteranean place. I liked it, you may or may not. But the food, drinks and staff you will like I am sure. I will return, there was plenty on the menu for me to come back for.

Went in with a couple of friends on Saturday evening this time opted for tapas instead of the chicken which has never been a let down so we had 3 for £10 fantastic range of goodies from the minted beef first for me but out of this world

I'm sorry but this place is absolutely terrible, it's slightly better than your local pub, how this is rated 4th for restaurants blows my mind, we booked a table for for 8pm on a Friday night being 4th on trip advisor I expected it to be busy, it wasn't so no need to book, just the local bar flies inhabited the place, we were sat in a big booth with a dirty table and handed 3 menu's a small board with 3 for £10 tapas (which we came for) and the other menu's were for the hotel restaurant and the bar snack which was very confusing as that had tapas on aswell? We o

Went Back for a second time ,enjoyed the tapas the first time,we had the chicken this time , was nice ,but did not like the way it was cooked ,was boiled first then put on the rotisserie ,but has for the that ,the la taverna is good for the kids ,manager was very welcoming and friendly ,service was excellent and the ales spot on . Will be going back again ,maybe try the other menu next time ,If you want a nice friendly tapas bar for you and the kids try the la taverna

Visited after reading TA,not a long selection of tapas,but were then given specials list plus menu from italian making this a huge choice,as usual chose too many,best dish by far off specials fresh calamari in garlic and chille,superb,don't mistake this with calamari rings,good dishes were stir fry fillet,antipasto,garlic king prawns and garlic bread. Two dishes not as good were Spanish potatoes and nachos.service by young lady,didn't get her name she was doing everything serving drinks,food,taking orders with no help,she was excellent

3 of us went for the first time on Saturday night, the 1st thing that hits you is the warmth of the welcome, John met us on arrival and we were promptly seated.John knows his Beers and with his advice we were soon sitting drinking a really nice Real Ale.Karen was our waitress for the night and she was BRILLIANT ! Vey happy and friendly with lots of patience (we seemed to take ages to make our minds up about what to order) But Karen was Great, guiding us and helping us through the menu.As for the Food.....................ALL of the other reviews have already said it......really good food, well presented and very reasonably priced. Good selection of Tapas but the Meatballs with Black Pudding are simply the best !Great Place, Great Concept, Great Food Great Real Ale and FANTASTIC Staff !

Just got back from a great night out at La Taverna..... great food great service.... Can't beat it.There were 4 adults and 3 kids and we were made to feel so very welcome by JJ the bar manager and chef.... hes some boy... He couldn't do enough to make our night so very good.... The quality of the food was great.... His tapas menu is device. ... but what made it for me was the time he had for our kids especially my eldest who is 8.... her strawberry sundae was so special she even bought him sone jelly beans with her own money to say thank you.... all I will say is you have to try his pinot and his steak!!

JJ, the bar manager is the perfect host, his food (including take-away whole chicken and roast potatoes) is FAB, can't fault it ! A family run business, lovely food in the restaurant, wonderful ambiance and setting, can't fault it. !

This place is fantastic. The food is amazing and the service is 2nd to none. A real homely feeling awaits. John has done wonders with La Taverna and he is the prime example of a good manager. He always has a smile and banter for everyone, no matter how old. He entertains the children and makes adults feel at ease and happy. My partner enjoys a real ale and John stocks only the best. A true gem of a place with a true diamond manager!

From the superb selection of Real ales, mostly locally brewed to the tapas and roast chickens, this place is a must visit. its got everything you need from a pub/restaurant , the decor is original and authentic, Jonny and his team make you feel so at home and offer great service. i love the fact they show every Newcastle united home games during football season ;) accommodation available via the adjoining restaurant michaelangelos.

Had a lovely meal with my husband and parents. My mother doesn't eat meat but was easily catered for. The starters and mains were lovely. Very generous portions. Live the decor. Staff were extremely friendly. Good banter. Can't wait to try the tapas on my next visit.

Went to La Taverna on a quiet Monday night recently when we were on a trip to Newcastle. We received a great welcome from John and his team . Although we dined alone the food was fabulous . We both liked what John is doing here, great real ales to choose from, alongside great tapas food at very reasonable prices.Afterwards Steve a local popped in for a drink and we stayed behind having a drink with John and Steve and went away with happy memories. We will return on a busier night when we are sure the place buzzes with happy customers .If you are in the area just go and enjoy good food and ale in the company of friendly people. Top night out .

2nd visit in fortnight, took the family this time. Firstly the service is exceptional, very friendly and welcoming, our requests were always met with enthusiasm. On both occasions the food is off high quality. On this occasion we had tapas,Greek,Italian and a Sunday lunch. Normally we would not go to a restaurant with a wide ranging menu because often it is difficult to produce 1 type of food well. However i can say that each one of us thoroughly enjoyed our dishes.we will all be returning to our little Sunday hideaway

Been to La Taverna several times before just for the beer, John keeps it absolutely spot on and there is no better place for real ale, Decided to take some family here for some food, The service was as excellent as ever and the food bill was very reasonable, would recommend everybody try this place

Popped out lastnight after reading the cheers magazine about this tapas bar. But the thought of not having to travel to the town at this time of year was great. Only a short bus ride from my home. When we arrived we. We're greeted buy a very happy man (jeff) who asked us to make ourselves at home. Menus- A good selection but took longer to decide what to have than it did to get there. We opted for patatas bravas, Spanish black pudding meatballs, chicken & mushroom in garlic, potato chorizo and onion, and curried lam. All amazing but could not decide which we liked most. And best of all was ONLY £20 with a bottle of wine. Finished with tirimasu (£4) to share as we were stuffed but couldn't resist. Really friendly service in a cosy place that could have been anywhere in the med. can't wait to return, recommended to anyone who likes authentic tapas.

Called in to La Taverna on a recomendation from a friend the food was fantastic and all of the staff were great. For a real ale fan this place is great. Can't wait to try the tapas.

Met up with friends for tapas, none of us had ever been to La Taverna. Due to it being a Monday night, we were the only people there. However, staff were really accommodating and said we could sit in Michelangelo's (restaurant attached to it) as there was more of a Christmas bustle. Ordered the tapas for 4 (only £30!), it was lovely; cured meats, olives, paella, croquettes, meatballs, chorizo, potatoes, and more! Really good value for money. Will definitely go back.
