Fantastic meal today at La Taperai in Chippenham this afternoon.. They kept the Restaurant open for the two of us and we had the place to ourselves! Great food and wine and amazing service from Elvis !! Thank you so much for giving us exclusivity this afternoon 🫶🏻🫶🏻🤎🤎 Jayden Griffiths-Mitchell

Absolutely awful service, ordered a sharing starter and main courses, was out on a date night with my wife. Starter arrived and 5 minutes later the main course arrived so our date night ended up lasting 35 minutes and the staff were absolutely appalling. When mentioned to the person in charge, she didn't really care. If I had of wanted fast food then I would have gone to Macdonalds. Been here a couple times before but the change in management clearly isn't working. Won't be going back

What has been our favourite place to eat in Chippenham, has gone rapidly downhill. Two weeks ago we thought the meals were not as good as usual, then they topped that with rushed service and very average meals. Every course was rushed, constantly interrupting our conversation asking if we were ready to order when we had only been sat at the table for a few minutes, maybe because the place was almost empty the staff thought they could get rid of us and go home early, we obliged and left at 9.30pm. The waitress that appeared to be in charge was extremely rude and insulting. I felt we were an inconvenience for 2 hours and so will never be returning and will make sure that we share our experience.

We had an absolutely lovely evening here. Lovely food and wine, very friendly welcoming staff and a warm atmosphere. Will definitely go back!

Stopped here for some birthday cocktails. They were spot on and well worth the money. Great recommendations on the different cocktails. Brilliant service and the mixologist was outstanding. Will definitely be back to try more cocktails and tapas.

Being a lover of Spanish food I was slightly worried about visiting. However, this place is amazing. The staff could not be more helpful or efficient. The atmosphere was spot on and the main man simply the most hospitable and welcoming anyone could be. A family celebration never to be forgotten. As for the Tapas the meat balls, mussels, chicken strips and prawns were exceptionally good. The two paellas - one seafood and one chicken - delicious. A definite winner for a warm comforting dinner 🥘

We needed early dinner with good choice and good wine, near St Andrews where we were playing in/listening to a concert. This place really hit the spot and excellent friendly service. We’ll be back!

The food! The food was so good. Very busy so the staff were rushing around a little and drinks service was slow but that's no surprise as the restaurant was full. A comment that in no way reflects a poor opinion of this place. I'd recommend this dining experience to everyone. Everything that we ordered was of an exceptional standard. We ordered many dishes, they all turned up at a fast pace and each dish was delicious. The kitchen staff have absolutely nailed the menu, delivering consistency (we ordered multiple of the same tapas) and high quality. I was paying too much attention to eating than to fully take in the ambiance of the restaurant but it was generally quite good.I cannot stress this enough.....the food! I will be a returning customer. My only wish is that they do delivery some day because I'd be ordering some of those tapas on a weekly basis.

We visited on a quiet Sunday evening. We received such a warm welcome and were looked after really well. The decor was nice too and the food well presented.

A very warm welcome preceded a delicious meal. We decided to share just three different tapas dishes which turned out to be just right for a light Sunday evening snack. Our lovely waitress gave us the delicious bonus of a taste of churros, warm and doughy to dip into chocolate. We’ve eaten tapas in Barcelona. This was authentic. Good eating.

Very good tapas and friendly staff. Highly recommend the seafood Paella and mixed seafood stew. Attentive and friendly staff with reasonable prices. Food arrived in good time despite being a quite busy Friday evening.

My Son had told me about this eatery in Chippenham, opened in late-November 2022, and housed in what used to be the Bear Hotel bar. This is a town centre location in the Market Place; only a couple of minutes walk east of the Buttercross. I had reserved a table for the two of us on this Sunday lunchtime. Travelling separately I was the first to arrive by car from Bristol, slightly early at 12:50, and my Son walked-in from his home after a few minutes. The menu here offers choices of ten main plates, and nineteen tapas plates; and the theme and the food style is decidedly Spanish. We selected three tapas plates each and, as there was a lunchtime offer, we had one tapas plate each for free. The plan was to potentially have a third selection of three tapas plates, which we would then share between us. Whilst we waited we ordered tap water and a really good ginger beer, the latter much-enjoyed by myself. The tapas took a while to arrive, but I felt this was a good sign (especially as the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy). A slightly longer service time indicates to me, that plates are being cooked from scratch, and to-order. When the plates arrived, they all looked very appetising: The ‘Tostado con Jamon Serrano’ (toasted bread topped with Serrano Ham and cherry tomatoes with a balsamic glaze). My Son’s choice; since he went on his first trip to Spain last September this has remained one of his favourite tapas plates. The version here was worthy of his praise, and looked, and was very good; with a very generous serving of tomatoes. The ‘Chorizo Frito’ (Flamed fried soft chorizo, with red wine). My Son’s choice and again his Andalusian holiday influence was evident. This plate was excellent; with a very rich sauce. Sadly, not my personal favourite; I now eat Chorizo sparingly because of it’s cholesterol-raising side-effects. The ‘Salchicha a la Parrilla’ (Grilled homemade spicy sausage with a spicy tomato dip). My Son’s choice, and his inherited passion for quality sausages made this plate ‘a must’ for him; it didn’t fail, it was very good. The ‘Tostado de Tomatoes Secos’ (Toast with ‘sundry’ cherry tomatoes); where ‘sundry’ was assumed (by me) to be a misspelt ‘sundried’. My choice and it was good with a very generous serving of cherry tomatoes. I can’t say it was what I expected; the tomatoes were not sundried (they were identical to the tomatoes served with the Serrano Ham) and very juicy. I didn’t make a fuss and enjoyed what I had, because the tomatoes were sweet tasting and pleasant. The ’Albondigas’ (Homemade spicy beef meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce). My choice and they were excellent; four very spicy meatballs in a generous serving of very spicy sauce. The meat was good quality, and had a strong mature flavour. The sauce just demanded to be eaten, and I started to spoon it into my mouth, but the observant waiter offered to bring a side-order of toasted bread. The late-ordered side of three small slices of toasted bread soon arrived. The ’Tiras de Pollo Picante’ (Spicy chicken strips, with a spicy dip). My choice, and I should have eaten this plate before the meatballs. My tastebuds had become compromised, and I was unable to detect any of the chicken’s piquancy. The texture of the chicken was really good, but the plate was not as warm as I would have liked. The chicken strips were not very thick and although they were well-cooked they had lost too much of their warmth; this was another good reason to have eaten this plate first. Our shared order of three tapas plates was placed after all of the above tapas plates had been eaten. We now knew the size of the plates and, although they were mostly generous, we felt we could easily manage a further shared set of three tapas … but not a set each. All the tapas plates we chose for the shared set had been choices in our first sets. The chicken strips (for my Son), the spicy grilled sausage (for me), and we shared the meatballs (two each) … but this time we ordered a side of the toasted bread too! There was a very good use of fresh herbs and/or fresh green leaves with all plates; commended and excellent. Desserts were ordered, originally I didn’t really want (or need) a dessert, but my Son felt he needed an ice cream, and then I spotted something potentially wonderful on the dessert menu that I really do like. We ordered: A ‘Helados de Vanilla’ (Vanilla ice cream dressed with a strawberry), and a ‘Crema Catalana’ (Spanish egg custard dressed with a strawberry). The ice cream was good, and enjoyed. My egg custard was superb; with an ultra-thin caramelised crust. Just a perfect texture and so wonderfully delicate. A couple of things I noticed about the waiting staff. The front of house manager was very pleasant, and confident, and Italian (yes, in this Spanish restaurant). I raised a point with him concerning the wine list. I wasn’t drinking (of course), but I was nevertheless interested in the wine menu (for future reference). There were five white wines and three rosé wines (there were also reds but I don’t drink red wine at all, so I am not qualified to pass comment). None of the wine descriptions provided the country of origin: this is, for me, a glaring error! How can you compare wines from Western Europe with wines from Eastern Europe or southern Mediterranean regions, or South Africa, or South America, or North America, and/or Australasia?? You can’t: yes there are good and bad in each of those regions, but you can (with experience) make a judgement. That judgement would you would likely to get if, for example, you buy New Zealand vs Chilean vs French Sauvignon Blanc. The manager was very patient, and confirmed that most of the wines listed were Spanish. I also commend the waiter, I guess this was a holiday job for a local lad. He did however look around when he stood in, or walked through, the dining area. Thus he was able to promptly organise a refill of my ginger beer the moment I needed one. The ‘3 for 2 order’ offer discount appeared to be calculated on the total cast of each three tapas sets and then 33% taken off (so the more you spend the more discount you receive). In all £20.50 was discounted from our three sets of tapas. I added a 10% tip for what was really good and pleasant service.

An all new tapas bar that offers amazing Spanish food. Have just been to Spain with my family and as soon as i was presented with the menus it felt as if I was still on holiday. Amazing restaurant I will recommend and will definitely return.

amazing original Spanish tapas along with an staggering list of cocktails and wine. the staff are also just as amazing at their job, especially the manager. lovely little place that deserves more affection and notice due to its amazing historic building right at the top of the town centre. all in all i recommend to anyone and everyone; will he visiting again

Heard and read good things about this new tapas bar, so we thought we would give it a try and find out exactly for ourselves! You wont be disappointed! Situated in the recently renovated Old Bear Hotel at the top end of the town, near the bus station, the interior was given a sense of Spanish theme on the walls and Spanish music coming from the speakers. We know of the manager as he previously served in the Italian in our home town of nearby Calne. Always very friendly and attentive. We were warmly greeted by him and explained everything on the menu. Starting with Spanish wine and a Spanish special beer we were given a dish of olives and dipping bread. Though out the menu we were served by two other young waiters, nothing was too much trouble In all we chose a total of six dishes to share - everything from prawns, patatas braves, crispy mushrooms, spicy chicken, meat balls and Spanish sausage. Spanish desserts to follow - four to choose from - Going for the Churros and Soufflé. All in all, a great dining out experience with something locally different from Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican and of course the usual pub fayre food. Would we go back again? Simply... Yes we would!

We visited this restaurant during a short break in the area. The food was good, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. We enjoyed our meal so much that we returned a couple of nights later.
