My friend introduced me to La Smorfia this evening, and without a doubt it is the most incredible independent eatery I've been to in years. This family run restaurant does literal magic with their food, especially when they were able to cater without issue to my allergies of eggs, nuts, as well as being a Coeliac. I even had my first ever tiramisu (no eggs, nuts or Gluten), and for it to taste so amazing it has to be magic! The family who run this restaurant are the most kind and down to earth people you will ever meet. This restaurant is truly a gem of the Cowley Road.

Had a fantastic meal at La Smorfia. We have two coeliac children (primary school age) and it makes eating out very difficult. La Smorfia were amazing, they have a separate gluten free kitchen so you can know that all gluten free food is safe for Coeliacs and they were so accommodating to our family. All the food (muggle and gluten free) was brilliant, pizzas amazing. The owner is very skilled and happily suggested two totally new dishes that she made for us to accommodate what my daughter asked for. The desserts were also so tasty and a lot of choice, great service and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you have dietary requirements or not, the food is delicious. But extra bonus points for being so safe for Coeliacs to eat. Highly recommend

Great cafe for brunch with a good selection. Also lots of gluten free options which is great for coeliacs as the owner is a coeliac.

Plenty of space in the restaurant in an era when many feel overpacked. Good music which wasn’t loud and overbearing. Staff were knowledgeable when answering questions. Service was not as good once we received mains and the restaurant became busier. Desserts were good however due to the nature of the restaurant having a store front, the tiramisu was served in a to go plastic cup. Not the end of the world but a plate would have been better. It was a small portion and the coffee didn’t really shine through. Spaghetti Sicilia - 4/5 Boscaiola Pizza - 3.5/5 Tiramisu - 3.5/5 Brontella - 5/5

La Smorfia is a hidden gem in Oxford! I can’t believe I found such an authentic Italian spot here—it really satisfied my craving for proper Italian food. Their Neapolitan-style pizza is amazing; I had the margherita, and it was perfect. The fried selection starter was incredible and reminded me of the food I had in Naples. I’ve been back a few times, and it’s honestly made being at uni so much easier knowing I can get homemade-tasting Italian food whenever I need it. Highly recommend!

Got a gluten free margherita pizza and I am convinced this has got to be the best gluten free pizza I’ve had in the UK! Definitely looking forward to returning. Also had a fantastic selection of gluten free sweet treats!

The food here is incredible! We came in for a friends birthday a few weeks ago and I was thrilled by the amount of options they have to cater to people with allergies. As someone who is dairy and gluten free this was amazing. The service was excellent and the Tiramisu (which can be gluten and dairy free) was absolutely divine. I will certainly be back.

We found La Smorfia whilst staying in Oxford for the weekend. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. As a coeliac it's very rare to find somewhere to eat that serves good safe gluten free food (that actually tastes like real food and not cardboard) and is prepared in a dedicated kitchen. I can't thank you enough

Per tradition, we went out for family dinner in a new restaurant and chose La Smorfia. Can't recommend enough. The food was delicious, especially the pizza and carbonara - my parents and I were thrilled. The service was also incredible - we were greeted and sat down very quickly then served by 3 different servers throughout our stay. Our first server picked out a nice table for us, while another very kindly noticed that our table was a little wobbly and immediately offered to fix it. Food arrived promptly and the final server checked on us twice. Overall, a very lovely place with friendly staff and delicious food. Would definitely recommend!

We attended as a group of 8 and ordered a variety of things from the menu. Everything was delicious, fresh and well presented. The staff are welcoming and the general vibe is relaxed. We will definitely be back!

We ate here tonight and my boyfriend js coeliac. This restaurant is owned by a mother & daughter and the daughter is coeliac, so there is a completely separate area of preparation with different ingredients so food anxiety was an absolute minimum. Charming staff, and wonderfully homely atmosphere. Simply delightful. No pretence, just fantastic Italian food & charisma. Thank you!!

I’ve recently started being gluten free and I was a bit surprised about how the meal would go but I have to say it was 10/10 . I’ve eaten at La Smorfia like 4 times since my first meal here and I can’t get enough of it . From their lamb chops to salmon or even pasta , they haven’t gone wrong with any of the meals I’ve tried . I highly recommend eating here . The staff are so lovely and attentive , you can tell it has a very authentic Italian touch . Not to mention the level of care they have for gluten free allergies is very commendable.

Truly fantastic, authentic and good Italian food, great variety on the menu, the gluten free dishes are also excellent and never lose their authenticity. The pizza is divine, and as someone who comes from Naples says, it really deserves a lot. The environment is warm and welcoming, the staff wonderful, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. I felt at home both for the food and the atmosphere (Italian background music☺️) Delicious pizza, leavened well and with top ingredients. Really good (really really good) pizzas, warm and friendly staff

The best pasta and pizza in Oxford!! We had Vongole, Pistachio pasta, Arancini, and Italiana pizza. Pastas had full savory flavors and cooked just right. Pizza also had full flavor and dough so nice that oil and dough alone made a satisfying meal. If you are tired of flavorless overcooked to pudding pastas and fake pizzas in Oxford, then this is a must-go.

We were a party of seven for dinner (plus our dog), with one of us having a serious dietary restriction. The owners were super helpful, explaining the menu and recommending food and drinks options, always keeping the restriction in mind. All the dishes and drinks were delicious and we had a fantastic time. We will be returning!

We had take away pizza a few weeks ago and it was delicious! One of our family members is gluten free and thought their GF pizza was one of the best! A handful of items are available gluten free including many dessert options and they sold several GF pastas and treats. We enjoyed the regular pizzas too!

Just had one of the best Italian gluten free meals ,loads of gluten free choices you don't normally get, arancini,tiramisu,foccacia and many different pasta dishes (all cooked in separate gluten free area)also gluten free lagers.Staff really friendly and knowledgeable, great atmosphere and reasonably priced throughorly recommend.

We went for a special occasion, my wifes birthday. I was based in the reviews which seems to be over starred as the food wasn’t good at all, very disappointing. It was a shame to bring so many people to have a lunch in an Italian restaurant that does not taste Italian. Many of us ordered the carbonara and unfortunately the guests said this was the worst carbonara they ever had, my wife’s carbonara was like pasta and scrambled eggs. Then we ordered the spacial brownie which comes with an ice cream scoop, there was no cream just ice, they didn’t even cared to give us a fresh ice cream. Then we had to ask for a replacement. What an awful experience.

My father and I have been in the hospitality industry for 50+ combined years. We have seen a lot of good and bad hospitality staff. La Smorfia was exceptional. Their staff was kind, patient, and helped provide many work around for my wife who has a medical diet. Absolutely blown away by the table service. The food was amazing. Everything was extremely fresh and the pizza crust was outstanding. We had a perfect meal and am extremely grateful for to have visited.

Had dinner at this place and, having visited a few other Italian restaurants in the area and seen the reviews, I had high expectations for the food. After sitting for around 5 minutes with no service, we tried to order from the till but were told we had to wait a bit longer for someone to take our order. The calamari was good, and the pizza was decent, but the lasagna was disappointing. Typically, we order lasagna to ensure a reliable choice, but not this time.

It's a very sweet and friendly restaurant where I feel at home,the food is very delicious,quality and there are many gluten-free options.

I recently dined at La Smorfia on Cowley Road in Oxford, and it was a delightful experience. The Italian pizza was absolutely delicious, with a perfect crust and fresh toppings. Another wonderful evening at La Smorfia, Cowley Road, Oxford.

As frequent visitors to La Smorfia, we recently decided to indulge ourselves in a dinner visit, following a coffee-only one earlier that day. My wife chose a Regina Margherita pizza, while I went for Ravioli Halley with burrata cheese and Rosemary Potato side. The restaurant was reasonably busy (c8.15pm) at the time. People were also calling in for takeaways and home delivery service. Rosa took our order and it was delivered not long after. As expected, the food was excellent. We just had room to share a Tartufo, another fine dessert. The service was very good, as usual. Makes us want to learn Italian..... Grazie !

Great service, has a nice garden area to sit in when warm. The gluten free offering is coeliac friendly! All the food was great and good quality for money ratio :) Minor point of improvement would be that smoking was allowed in the garden while other people were eating

My new favourite restaurant in Oxford!! We ordered the gnocchi ai quattro formaggi , the cotoletta alla milanese & the La Curiosona pizza (without the meat). Everything was incredible, I literally couldn’t recommend this enough. Plus, the staff were so friendly & welcoming :)

The food is prepared following the real Italian and Neapolitan tradition, high quality of the ingredients, you can taste it, enjoy it, easy to digest. Lovely friendly family run restaurant with a great atmosphere. Brilliant for anyone on a gluten free diet. The daughter/maitre D has coeliac disease so they have a great understanding of it which made me feel like I was in safe hands. They cook gluten free food separately to avoid cross contamination which meant I could eat things I never get to eat out normally like deep fried calamari. Really enjoyed our visit and everything tasted fresh and delicious.

The best Italian restaurant I've tried in Oxford.

My art group had our Xmas meal at La Smorfia and we had a fabulous time! The food was delicious and the staff were so accommodating and attentive. It was easy to arrange the booking by email and Denise provided alternative menu options for our various dietary requirements, including gluten free. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner - the food and service is second to none!

Had the pizza home delivered last night with my wife. Absolutely excellent. Flavorsome toppings, proper crust, great cheese. The aranchini was excellent too. La Smorfia is a absolute gem and a cut above much of what passes for Italian food in Oxford.

The food was very good, I had cannelloni ricotta and spinach, but it was small and I wanted more food. I went to this restaurant with friends and we are learning English (context). There was a waitress who was a bit annoying, she spoke to us very quickly even though she knew that our L1 was not English and she responded badly to us. They should have more consideration for people who don't speak English.

We decided to go to La Smorfia before a gig at the nearby Oxford Academy. We're definitely going to return again as we were very impressed! My wife is Coeliac and the restaurant is probably one of the best places we've been to for gluten free food. The food, an excellent range of starters, pasta, pizza & mains was very high quality & our waitress, also Coeliac, was extremely helpful & naturally knowledgeable about our food options. The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere & is well worth seeking out. We'll definitely return in the New Year, regardless of any gigs in the area! 🤘

I love the pizza here. I mostly order take away but eating in it’s nice too. Properly made pizza other main course are nice too. I had the mortazza and my girlfriend the burratina on the pork. I love the red Americana too. Really recommend

Pizza is great. Wine, not so much. You're not getting anything better than a 7£ bottle from tesco, but at 4x the price. We were a party of 25ish, obviously it takes a while to cook for so many, but while you keep people waiting, you can throw some peanuts or bread. You call yourself Italian restaurant, but there's nothing resembling that. Would definitely recommend to get pizza as takeaway from there. And we probably will.

I found this Italian restaurant by mistake and it was the best mistake I’ve made. This restaurant has the very best Italian deserts. They have the best variety. If you are a desert lover this beautiful Italian store will serve you food from the heavens. Their deserts are fresh and they have lots of verity all looks extremely beautiful and very tasty. They all look hand made and I’ll be taking my mother some of these wonderful sweet fresh deserts. I’m thinking of ordering a mixture for Christmas. I highly recommend the taste is the very best you will find in Oxford and the most authentic. I can’t believe I’ve only just found this wonderful store recently

I've heard the pasta's good and the red pizza margarita too but beware the white pizza - zero sauce..cheese overload...and if a pizza arrives and you're suspicious it's at all burnt, take your chance and send it back straight away.

Wasn't sure about this place when we first entered, but it quickly felt homely and welcoming as more diners arrived. You know an Italian place is good when lots of Italian people eat there! The pizza and the pasta were exceptional - definitely the best in Oxford - and really affordably priced. You get ten times the quality of the main takeaway pizza places for an equivalent price. The staff were so lovely too! Looking forward to our next visit!

I Visited this amazing restaurant with some friends last night! We had this amazing charcuterie boards to start absolutely delicious! The presentation of the plates are spot on and the food soo tasteful! I really recommend a visit!

5 stars are a must. Traditional Italian cuisine, all delicious and of great quality, raw materials that make the difference in every dish (we tried several). Here you eat real Neapolitan pizza, I recommend trying the SORRENTINA (I assure you you will not be disappointed) The service is excellent, the guys in the room are very courteous, available to advise you and attentive to customer needs. Very welcoming location, suitable for lunches or dinners with friends. At the end of the meal you can't leave without tasting the excellent desserts and the real Italian espresso. VERY SATISFIED.

I went with some friends for dinner in September, everything from start to finish was absolutely perfect. I had pizza for dinner and it was the best pizza I had in Oxford, very light and tasty. A couple of friends had pasta and the portion was very generous and super tasty. I had a “sfogliatella” and my partner had tiramisu, both to die for.. They also serve my favorite Italian beer on draught, Menabrea.. I will be back over and over again🍕

A family ran restaurant - one of the best pizza experience we had in Oxford. The dishes were really authentically Italian too. We had a separate aubergine dish and it was delicious. Beautiful al fresco dining area outside, spacious inside, and a Friendly service! What not to like? We were there for the first time but will definitely be back.

Friendly staff and amazing food

A coeliacs heaven ! After phoning ahead and speaking to a lady who had coeliacs herself I felt reassured to try La Smorfia for the first time . Lots of gluten free choices with a dedicated area for gluten free food . The food was delicious . My only negative (which won't be for others ) is you could only order wine by the bottle and not just a glass but we were driving . Definitely be going back !

Absolutely disappointed by the food. I almost thought we came to the wrong restaurant considering the excellent reviews this place has. Cannelloni and porchetta were everything but fresh. The porchetta was very dry and salty. It was an absolute joke. Cannelloni were not made to order, and they're obviously supposed to be served fresh. This place let us down massively. Won't be returning again. I thank the girls for the lovely service.

An absolute diamond in Oxford, La Smorfia offers brilliant and authentic Italian food and sweet treats. Their emphasis on importing many key ingredients as well as the excellent service puts this a cut above most Italian restaurants. A great spot for a casual dinner or occasion meal

Food was amazing.. I have ordered burratina on the pork: possibly the best pizza I had in UK in a very long time. My husband ordered spicy calzone and he loved it, one friend ordered fried pizza with meatballs and it was great too; last friend ordered pasta with clams, she said it was a bit spicy but she still enjoyed. Tiramisù was nice but a bit too sweet for me, I prefer more mascarpone and less double cream. We are definitely coming back here often and recommending it to whoever fancy a great and true Italian meal!
