I adore pizza and was delighted to find this restaurant near a friend who lives in North Finchley. They offer much more than pizza of course, meat and fish dishes as well as pasta, but pizza is my go to choice. The base is delicious and chewy (in a good way) and there is a wide variety of toppings. The last time I went, my friend chose the calves’ liver, which she found delicious. Service has always been warm and friendly when I have visited and there is a good selection of wines to choose from to accompany the food. During the week, they have a special set lunch, which looks like great value.

This was one of my friend's favourite local restaurants, and I have also become a fan. The menu is varied, but I just adore pizza, so it is my default choice. This was one delicious, with a lovely charred base and delicious toppings. There was a good selection of wines and service was friendly and efficient.

We went with friends on a quiet Sunday evening. The place is a little dull and obviously in need of a refurbishment. Food is rather run of the mill Italian with not a great deal of imagination but not unpleasant. The good thing is BYO is very cheap. There are obviously more interesting Italian's around but it was adequate on a quiet Sunday evening.

My daughter and I were walking down Ballards Lane to her new flat in North Finchley, when we came upon this small Italian restaurant. Although it was lunchtime, there were only four other diners. We thought, "Not a promising sign." After perusing the menu we decided to split a caprese salad and the lemon veal. Both were a delightful surprise. The lemon veal was especially delicious. The veal was not smothered in flour before being cooked (as is so often the case in many Italian restaurants), but lightly coated so you could actually taste the veal and cut it without a knife. The lemon sauce was seasoned to perfection with the right blend of lemon and capers. Unlike another Italian restaurant we visited in the area, the main course was served with two sides at no extra cost. The tomatoes and mozzarella were fresh and presented quite artistically on the plate. Two glasses of wine, a caprese salad and the veal came to less than 20 pounds. Impressive. We took my son-in-law back a few days later for dinner, and had another delicious experience. I'm not sure I'd travel all the way across London to specifically go to this restaurant, but will definitely visit again next time I'm in north London. Very little atmosphere, but excellent food.

The service in this restaurant is very good and attentive. However, the food is only average. My pizza was, at best, 'OK' - unacceptably soggy in the middle and low on toppings, poor quality food in a world where restaurateurs can no longer get away with it. Consumers are much more discerning now and their expectations are high. The decor in the restaurant is drab, cheap-looking and old-fashioned and is badly in need of decoration and modernisation to make it more welcoming.

Having been regulars of Rugoletta for a long time visiting on a very frequent basis it is very demoralizing how things have changed. We last noticed a change a few weeks ago when my usual pizza arrived with around 25 percent of the toppings it used to have I hoped it was a one off maybe the chef was sick so I gave it another chance. Went in again ordered and was pushed to order wine (that has never happened before) politely declined and waited for the order. Pizza arrived the same as before sparse of toppings it was not a one off on our last visit it was a concerted attempt to cut costs by cutting quality while keeping prices the same. Asked for the bill and again asked if wanted dessert or drinks excuse me if I wanted it I would have asked it in the first place! Final straw was leaving and nobody coming to the door previously the waitresses would come and say goodbye this restaurant is now purely a money making operation with no customer service and average Italian food. Don’t get me wrong the food is edible and ok but it used to be outstanding, the service used to be friendly and warm now it is just purely operational with an eye to extract the maximum from each customer. Very sad to see this happen to what was such a great place to go but life goes on there are many Italian restaurants in the area we will find our next Rugoletta!

Titolare e personale gentilissimo e cortese. Prezzi nella media della metropoli

A warm welcome to a lively local Italian restaurant. On offer was a varied menu and good quality food. Packed to the gunnels on a Saturday evening, make sure you reserve. The price was reasonable, the service friendly and professional. My only criticism is that someone needs to get a pot of paint and touch up the damaged and peeling areas of the wall or perhaps this was atmospheric, it certainly felt like Italy. Go, eat, enjoy.

We decided to visit this place as on a previous occasion we had eaten at it's sister restaurant in Church Lane East Finchley and were very impressed with the quality of the meal , This branch is situated at the top of Ballads lane in a small parade of shops . It is small buzzy place and when busy can be quite cramped, however the staff are very friendly and polite , the Menu is typically Italian but dose offer a lot of sea food options ,The dishes are well presented and are good portion size. I had a Calamari starter which was a cooked well with a nice crispy tempura style batter my only gripe with the was that it was slightly under seasoned , I also had one of the specials of the day which was a monk fish main in a caper and tomato sauce which was really nice , the side dishes were also really nice with near perfect sautéed potatoes and runner beans cooked in garlic .My partner had a tricolo salad with some wonderful buffalo mozzarella and prawn pasta dish with fresh king prawns , the pasta was cooked to perfection .This place is very good for informal dinners with simple Italian dishes made with good quality ingredients, the food is reasonably priced for the area , definitely worth a visit , you will have to book if you want book a table on the weekend

This is a cosy restaurant which has the feel of being run by a family. On a very cold night I was impressed that when people went out the door's strong spring immediately closed it; and a heater over the doorway ensured no cold came in.All 6 of us agreed the food was excellent. I had straciatella soup (haven't had that for years as it disappeared from Italian restaurants after the raw egg scare). It was delicious. After that I had beautifully cooked calamari accompanied by potatoes and beans, plus some zucchini. I didn't have room for dessert but the others enjoyed theirs. The waitresses were attentive but not overbearing. What a lovely evening.

Four of us visited this restaurant for lunch on Mother's Day. The place was full, there was a good atmosphere and there were plenty of young waitresses bustling about so we were optimistic that we would have a nice meal. Unfortunately the food was not great although we really enjoyed our first courses. Mine was bruschetta which I would recommend. For our main course my son in law had pasta, which he liked and my daughter and I had lamb steaks accompanied by runner beans and saute potatoes, all smothered with a thick dark gravy and reminded me of a TV dinner. My husband had chicken covered with a some sort of rice type concoction which he didn't find very appetising. The desert menu comprised the usual bought-in ice cream sundaes. It was Mother's day but there was no evidence of this. It might have been nice to have had a special Mother's Day menu. Ho hum.

This has become my number one Italian in North London. Don't be fooled by the typical Italian look of the place, looks can be deceiving. Run by an Italian family you are greeted with a smile and always given hot garlic bread squares from the oven. As well as the standard menu they always have specials which change monthly. Their pasta dished are generous and delicious and everything is fresh and always piping hot. A huge bonus is that its BYO which makes a mid week meal very affordable. It has a small but perfectly formed alfresco dining area which makes it the perfect venue if and when the sun pops out! . Been to this branch 5 or 6 times and have been recommending it to my family for ages. I promised them it was better than L'Artista in Golders Green, where they usually go. Last night I finally took them and we were all disappointed with the standard of the food. Only the Papadelle with mixed mushrooms was up to scratch. The melanzane parmigiana was chewy with cheese which seemed more like cheddar than mozzerella; the bruschetta had the usual garlic and oregano but the garlic was in the tomato rather than rubbed onto the toast. It just tasted dull, like cold tomato on toast. My mixed side salad came in a tiny bowl (with lettuce straight out of a bag) which was incredibly mean for £3+ ; there was barely any tomato sauce on my pasta (asked for more) and was clearly cooked by a different chef. It lacked the usual depth of flavour and was thin and oily. What bothered me most was my husband's calves liver which did not have the creamy subtlety of this expensive meat but instead tasted very strong and 'farm-yardy' - more like the strength of lambs' liver. I don't mind spending over average on good food but this was not good value and the standard was poor. Such a shame.

My husband picked me up from the gym and we decided to grab a bite locally in Finchley. He fancied pasta so we decided to try out La Rugoletta as it seemed busy which is always a good sign. Upon entering, we were seated on a table for two near the door which the table was not set up. A waiter came to us 10 mins later and put some napkins down and cutlery. Didn't give the table a wipe. Our drink orders were taken and menus were given to us alongside the day specials. We ordered The bruschetta to start with, and both had a pasta dish each choices of Penne Arabiatta for hubby and the seafood linguine for myself. The waiter came 10 mins later to take our order. 25 minutes later our starter arrived and we still didn't have our drinks which consisted of Water and a cappuccino which i asked for and were bought a few minutes later. The bruschetta was not great for an italian restaurant, the bread was hard, the rocket not so fresh and the tomatoes although lovely, were dry, no pesto or sauce as bruschetta normally comes with, Our main course arrived 20 mins later, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. Generous portion and hats off to the chef. This place is a family run business whcih you can sense immediately, the only thing that bought t down for us was the lack of service. The waiters seemed lost, almost as if they had never dealt with 7 tables on a thursday night. Shame but we hope to go again as the food main was delicious.

Went with another couple and it was lively and noisy, hard to hear but it was a Saturday night and full up. We ordered king prawns with brandy - only 3 cost about £9 but very nice. Mains we ordered off the specials which were more expensive than the main menu on average. Had scallops pasta with a couple of chopped up scallops - tasted nice but nothing special for a slightly overpriced dish. Husband had escalop chicken with sides and it was £17 which I thought was very dear for a bit of chicken but hey maybe my pricing is out of date. Wine was good. Came to £180 for 5 and only four of us had any alcohol and only one pudding ordered. But it was very pleasant if amateur (young unconfident) service but the food arrived quickly and the orders were right except for my son's lemonade. I would go again.

I am sure I would have enjoyed my meal a lot more than I did if only there hadn't been such an overpowering smell of disinfectant from the toilets. The food looked very nice and was served lovely and hot, but the unpleasant smell ruined the evening. We even moved tables to be further away, but it made no difference.

You get more than you expect with this restaurant! A classic Italian design within the restaurant, plenty of seating and always given the choice of where we want to sit.Staff are welcoming, talkative, quick and helpful.Menu is everything you could want from an Italian restaurant, every pasta, pizza and side dish you expect without a hefty bill! Usually for 2 of us our bill will come to about £40 including two alcoholic drinks. My two favourite dishes are the beef lasagne, which is in a rich tomato sauce and the smoked mozzarella, parma ham and rocket pizza. Plus of course the garlic pizza bread. All appears to be cooked fresh and served quickly.Traditional Italian beer (apologies for forgetting the name) is also available here and is the best beer I have tasted. Although I have never been given a drinks menu, I always just ask for "a beer!".I also like that the window on the door to the kitchen is always open, allowing guests who are seated facing that way, to see what is going on within the kitchen in regards to their food.

I have eaten at La Rugoletta many times, for lunch and for dinner, and it is one of the nicest and best value restaurants in Finchley. The food is always good - freshly prepared, well cooked and good portions, the wine list is not huge but offers enough choice at decent prices, the restaurant interior is pleasant enough and the service is always efficient and friendly. Can't fault the place.

This restaurant very surprised me. When I sat down and looked around you switch off and feel you are in Italy, Softly playing Italian music in the background, Italian efficient and friendly staff serving very good authentic Italian food. Me and my friends ordered all different food and the forks were circling the table to taste all the lovely meals.

Entered the restaurant only because it was the first we saw. We were the only clients for lunch so everything was done at the moment and fresh. A garlic bread on a pizza base; the best "Penne Arrabbiata" I ate in a long time. Good house red. Nice friendly Italian staff. A real unexpected pleasure.

Have eaten here about 12 times and the food and service is consistently good. Italian restaurant in North Finchley. Staff are attentive and surroundings are average. But I don't come here for staff and surroundings. I come here for the food. So many Italian restaurants are a disappointment and serve an anglicised version of Italian food. But Rugoletta serve Italian food that is authentic and good quality. An Italian dining here would enjoy the food, which is high praise. I have tried most of the menu and my favourites are calamari starter, always crispy and tender, and puttanesca, just the right mix of anchovies and spicy ness.

I have visited this restaurant twice in the last few weeks and have been delighted with the service received from the attentive waiters and waitresses. We had the sea bass on one occasion and pasta on the other and both were fresh, tasty and well presented. The starters are lovely too. Pleased to enjoy excellent quality mozarella. Do give it a try, you wont be disappointed

This was a buzzy Thursday night. It was surprisingly busy and there was plenty of pasta which was the best choice as the veal was just average. The house white wine was eminently quaffable.

We have really enjoyed our two visits to this excellent small local Italian restaurant. Not a lot to say clean, friendly efficient service and good food in ample quantities. So far we have got in without booking.Don't forget to look at the daily specials.

Went here for a family lunch and it was a true Italian experience. A family run restaurant with authentic food. The mussels were amazing and the fish was very very fresh ! Finished off with some tasty ice cream and extremely reasonable prices. What more could you want from a restaurant only 10 mins from your house !

Visited here with family and had a great night without breaking the bank.Great Italian cooking and excellent service. A bonus saving also as you can bring your own wine with just a small corkage charge applied. It is tucked away from the main roads and is truly worth finding and trying.

excellent service in a very friendly and hospitable atmosphere, family lunches with children, evenings with friends, all occasions have been highly enjoyable. A varied Italian menu, we have enjoyed superb home-made pizzas, Although not on the menu, and hard to find anywhere in the suburbs, I asked for, and got my favourite dish - saltinbocca alla Romana, and now my friends and significant other love it too, We will return again and again,

We love their sister restaurant in E Finchley, so went to Ballards Lane one lunchtime with high hopes. There wan't a lunch menu and the cheapest dish was £11. The paper tablecloth was grubby. A ruffian with a cigarette (ugh), wh seemed to be staff or friend, was pacing around outside. The waitress was scruffy, off-hand and amateurish -- e.g. took our two plates to a party of 3 (the only other people in the room). The food was OK, but not OK enough to compensate for the dispiriting ambience.

I have been to La Rugoletta N12 three times (so far) and am looking forward to my next visit. We have tried different dishes every time, which are very reasonably priced . The wonderful aromas just make you more hungry, which is just as well, as the portions are generous and so delicious you have to clear your plate. The owners and staff are welcoming and helpfully attentive. There is even an outside eating area.

The food was nice. Not happy that one of the members of staff kept filming us or taking photos of everyone in the restaurant. They never asked for consent and some of us do not want our faces plastered over the internet. That ruined the experience.

I came here with 2 of my friends, and the waiter took us to our table. we waited for well over 30 minutes and no one came to take our food or drink order, I then saw the waiter and asked if he could come and take our order, but he just ignored me and walked away, I then went to the bar to ask to speak to a manager, I told the manager we have waited some time for someone to take our order, he just surged his shoulders, so I said he no one can take our order maybe we should go elsewhere, and he said, then go elsewhere, and that is what we did, sorry, we will not be returning back
