La Mensa in County Durham

A family of 20 booked in here for a birthday meal,to make it easier we pre booked food, service was very good & food also very good. My only complaint would be that there were too many tables squeezed into small area,we were that close to back wall people had to crawl under table to go to loo.

We came here for my birthday with 4 children and a baby, The make your own pizza is fab, kids absolutely loved, especially ringing the bell for the chef and personally handing him it. The adults all had garlic bread, potato skins and carbonara and we couldn’t fault it, Food was lovely. Service was good, we will be back

Booked in today for Sunday lunch,service very very slow,had to wait about 20mins for drinks order to be taken,food order taken at same time,food arrived after 10mins or so,lamb was very nice,roast beef very tough left most of it also thought cabbage with garlic did not go well with gravy. Asked for desert menu after about 15mins wait decided to just go to bar pay for mains & leave

Feeling disappointed. Attended as a party of 7 today for Sunday lunch. Firstly missed a starter off our order so had to wait for it to be cooked. Then Service took a long time and when it did arrive main Plate of food was luke warm. Then we Waited for veg to arrive. Was barely enough to feed 3 people let alone 7. Asked for more veg which took ages so most of party had started to eat. When asked at the end if everything had been ok I explained my concerns to which the waitress pretty much just walked away. No apology of any kind. Very poor customer service in my opinion.

Visited La Mensa for tea, staff were very friendly and attentive. For my starter I had the mussels with chilli and I have to say they were the best I’ve ever had well done to the chef. Well worth a visit we will definitely be back

On entering La Mensa, the Hand Sanitizer was empty, Ordered drinks the Wine Glass was covered in Lipstick, the girl took it away and just poured it into another glass. They state they spray clean the tables never saw any cleansing of any sort. Poor display for being a so called Italian Restaurant felt more like a Cafe. Food just basic, and high priced ,would not go again far superior Italian restaurants in the area

Both of our starters - potato wedges & soup was delicious. The serving size of the wedges was huge! 5/5 The Bolognese was okay but the spaghetti didn’t seem fully boiled, it was still a little bit hard. It was a little bit bland too, I don’t think there was any seasoning on it at all. However tasted nice overall 4/5. Pizza tasted nice 4/5. The desserts were massive and very tasty, by this point I was too full to finish it. 5/5. Considering all the food we got it only came up to £24! I would definitely recommend to try! 😁

We visited the restaurant for a birthday. We have been before the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is very tasty and freshly made. I had Garlic mushrooms , pasta main and cheesecake for dessert all three plates were excellently presented . The food is well priced and they have lots if choice on the menu. One member of the party had pizza was delicious . They also do a range of cocktails we have tried a few off the menu they are fabulous and well priced not too expensive.

We’ve had a few meals here over the last few months. During lockdown they were doing takeaway and we had a couple of lovely meals, which was a highlight when we couldn’t go out anywhere. Their lunch special is really good value. Two courses for £7.95. The only complaint I have is that each time we’ve been, the soup of the day always seems to be tomato and basil so a change would be good. Both the pasta and pizza are really good. We’ve also been on an evening and the more expanded menu has some great choices. We’ve never had a bad meal, highly recommended.

Called here on Saturday afternoon,were shown to a table,food & drink orders quickly taken,unfortunately there was a group of about 10/12 lads in who were very loud & the language was industrial to say the least,there were loads of empty tables & could not understand why we were sat next to this group.ordered bruschetta pomodoro, I think it was only toasted baguette,otherwise fine.mains were tasty,dessert a bit disappointing.Decent service, but slightly slow & not that busy. Will try again.

Celebrated my son’s 18th here last night with a family meal and we were all so very impressed. Staff were very helpful in decorating the table beforehand and the choice and standard of food was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed by all and would highly recommend.

Friday evening visit for a meal with my wife, had starters and mains with four pints all together and came to about £50, so not bad, staff are nice and friendly, I was slightly disappointed I got toast instead of ciabatta but not the end of the world, had a lovely meal and can recommend you try it, not usually a fan of italian but this was worth a visit.

Pleasant surroundings , good food, and top notch service.All at a very reasonable price,can recommend the Rissotto. pescatore. Garlic bread was light and delicious. Drinks prices are not over priced,in fact cheaper than local pubs. Leah and Olivia, the waitresses were attentive,polite and efficient.Definitely going to be a regular for us.

Ordered a meal for collection on Friday night for a birthday treat. It was the first time we’d tried it on the recommendation from my Mam who’d had a takeaway delivered a couple of weeks before. Firstly I’d like to say Thank You!! It made my first lockdown birthday a good one. Couldn’t fault the food from the starters of Meat balls & mozzarella Fritti to the mains, Pizza, Lasagne & Pollo Parmo & sides of Garlic bread & chips, everything was spot on. Can’t wait to order again. Would definitely recommend it!!!!
