La Gaffe in Camden

First but definitely not last time we stayed in this small but very friendly hotel. All of the staff is polite, warmhearted, helpful. The room is small, but clean and cozy. The localtion is incredible, this area of London is so lovely. The tube is like 5 mins away, Hampstead Heath is not too far as well. We are looking forward to go back in summertime. Thank you for everything!

Not gonna lie, it's not a luxurious hotel. It's modest, rustic, but not in bad shape. This is why I'm not using Airbnb no more. This was a great experience, amazing attention, heath, security, cleanliness, everything that you need for a short stay. I stayed for one night and felt welcomed and like in home.

LaGaffe is a quaint boutique hotel which I have been staying at for years and it makes me feel very homely. The rooms are small however they do have everything you need and breakfast is included. You feel like you are in a village in England yet you are in London and a 5 minute walk to the tube. Highly recommend.

La Gaffe was the perfect choice for my partner and I visiting London. The room we stayed in which I highly recommend was the deluxe double room with jacuzzi. It was perfectly well equppied (with a TV, hair dryer and so on), clean and spacious. The mattress was comfortable and the jacuzzi was perfect for relaxation after a rainy day in London! The hotel is a cluster of historic cottages appropriated into guest accomodation. The architecture is cosy, has a historic, warm character and is nicely decorated with mostly Italian themes (since the owners are Italian). The ground floor space is perfect for relaxing and having coffee. Lorenzo and his team are very friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you are happy. For me, personally, the location couldn't be better. You are in quiet, idyllic Hampstead village. You have the sense that you are in a village and yet you are in the heart of London. The tube is just a few minutes walk away, you jump on the northern line and you are in the west end in 20 minutes. The area is perfect for walks, restaurants and pub visits - the Holly Bush being my favourite. The value was excellent too! Thank you La Gaffe, we will be sure to visit again :)

Un pequeño hotel muy bien comunicado para visitar Londres. Está situado en un edificio antiguo, y le pueden faltar algunas comodidades que tengan hoteles más nuevos. Sin embargo tienen lo suficiente para descansar después de visitar la ciudad. Personal muy amable. El desayuno más que suficiente para empezar el día. Precio relación-calidad muy adecuada.

Estuvieron unos amigos y para estar 4 días suficiente . Habitaciones pequeñas pero limpias . Hotel modesto sin ningún lujo .

Im La Gaffe darf man keinen Luxus erwarten. Das ganze Haus ist alt, verwinkelt und nicht barrierefrei, die Zimmer sind klein und in unserem der Straße zugewandten Zimmer war es relativ laut. Dies wird aber im Vorhinein auch sehr transparent gemacht und man weiß (wenn man die Infos gelesen hat), worauf man sich einlässt. Insgesamt haben wir uns hier sehr wohlgefühlt. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und das kleine Frühstücksbuffet ausreichend. Unser Zimmer war bis auf etwas Staub und ein paar Spinnweben an der Decke sauber und auch das Badezimmer war in einem guten Zustand. Besonders aufgrund der direkten Nähe zur Tube-Station „Hampstead“ ist das La Gaffe für Städtetrips toll. Mit der Northern Line gelangt man innerhalb kürzester Zeit ins Zentrum von London. Dass das Restaurant nicht geöffnet hat war zwar schade, aber kein Drama, da Hampstead wirklich noch genug anderen tolle Optionen für ein Abendessen bietet. Wir würden wiederkommen!

Great condition and great value room in a really leafy area of London! The owner is super friendly and made a lot of effort to get to know you as a guest. The included breakfast was really nice too.

Incredible location. 4 min walk to tube station and beautiful Hampstead village. The rooms are slightly claustrophobic as they are quite small and the hallway outside is very squeaky and loud when walked on but the rooms are also clean and have everything necessary to be used as a base camp when visiting London. The staff are beyond helpful and pleasant. Afraid I didn’t make it down for the breakfast but it looked lovely. Would definitely recommend as the location is fantastic.

Although quaint in description with its long history in the area, I feel nothing at La Gaffe has been updated since 1962! Our mattress and pillows were unbelievable uncomfortable, there was hardly any room to move around the bed, and virtually no space to hang any clothing let alone store two suitcases. A musty smell lingered on the second floor where they wash sheets and towels - slightly off putting on a hot day. I feel this place has sadly been neglected and feels a little run down.

La posizione dell'hotel è ottima ma la camera era un pó angusta, la pulizia migliorabile e la finestra della camera con davanti un muro era inutile, faceva davvero caldo in camera. Capisco che Londra abbia i prezzi alti ma sono stata in camere migliori in capitali europee a meno della metà del prezzo pagato.

This review is about the hotel as I'm not sure if the restaurant is even open. My room was so small that my packed suitcase was on the floor underneath a desk. It was stuffy but had large windows that I choose not to open as there were filthy curtains hanging in front of them that you can't push out of the way, and the room faced a very busy street with a lot of traffic noise. My mattress was very hard with the tuft buttons able to be felt through the mattress pad, and the pillows were old and hard. As much as the family running this place was very sweet, some minimal care would enhance their guests' experience, like wash the curtains, wipe down the windows, get new pillows, and make the little atrium area into a sitting area for guests, as there is no lobby or place to be outside of the cramped room. My room was considered a double and there is no way two people could be in the room at the same time. For the price paid one can get a bit nicer in London, with a reception desk in case of a lockout. I was told there is no check in after 9:00 p.m. My flight was late but luckily I got there before 9:00 p.m. (but what happens if you don't?!). Also I saw no signage outside for contacting the property after hours in case of a lockout. I was able to keep my bag there until noon as their checkout is quite early at 10:00 a.m.

Great location and the staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are a little tight, which might not suit everyone. Worked for us though, making for a great base for our short stay in London.

The place is old but mentained as better as possible and very clean. Beds were really comfortable, and the towels were the fluffier I've ever had in a hotel. The breakfast was honestly okay for being in the price and the staff very kind and willing to help you. Located 5 mins walk from underground in northern line. The only downside is that it has no elevator, and the sound isolation was not the best, but as said before, it is an old building.

Truly just a great experience. The location is quite nice, close to an Underground station, a Tesco, and a nice Pub. The room was nice for the two of us, though the stairs could be somewhat intimidating. The owner and associates were very friendly and responsive. Ultimately a very good experience that I'd recommend to first-time Londoners.

I really enjoyed my stay here! The room was small but very comfortable, if you're visiting London and just want a place to sleep and recharge it's perfect. The staff was very helpful and friendly and it's a very short walk to the Hampstead station.

Una magnifica esperienza. Un hotel in vero stile inglese, atmosfera very british...a poca distanza dalla metro, in un quartiere molto elegante. Personale fantastico. Davvero ottimo.

Very good location. Close to Hampstead Heath and many a diverse array of restaurants nearby. We had a small room but we only needed beds for 2 people. Service was minimal. We didn't eat at the restaurant downstairs or get housekeeping.

Ein kleines, altes Hotel mit Geschichte (wie man vielen Wänden mit Briefen an und von Queen Elizabeth 2. lesen kann). Zimmer 8 ist ok, wirklich ruhig ist es im Bezug auf Verkehr vor dem Hotel leider nie ganz aufgrund der nicht so gut isolierten Fenster. Betten sind bequem. Personal ist sehr nett. Man sollte wissen, dass es keinen Aufzug hat, sehr verwinkelt und dementsprechend schwierig ist mit großem schweren Koffer

Stayed there with a friend for her visit to the UK, she found the place. It's a brilliant little place, basic rooms, but clean and everything you need. No lift is the only complaint, I guess. Food is good in the restaurant.

Highly recommend. The room was clean and cosy with a comfortable bed. Everything you need in a guest house with a continental breakfast included. The service was very pleasant and the host contributed to the homely atmosphere. It’s a great location close to shops, restaurants and the underground. I will stay here again when I visit London

Dit hotel heeft alles wat het moet hebben voor een citytrip naar London. We werden zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam ontvangen door de eigenaar. De kamers zijn niet supergroot maar alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig. Het ontbijt is ruim voldoende, pistolets, wit en bruin brood, croissants, beleg, gekookt eitje, fruitsap, ontbijtgranen, vers fruit,... Vlakbij is het underground station Hampstead. Hampstead zelf is ook een leuke plaats met winkels en restaurants en het Hampstead Heath park. De auto kan je in de buurt overdag nergens kwijt. Op aanraden van de eigenaar hebben wij onze auto gratis geparkeerd op Bisschop Avenue, vanaf daar is het ongeveer 20 minuutjes terug wandelen. Er zijn ook bussen die je kan nemen om terug te keren. Tip: van 6 PM tot 09 AM kan je wel gratis parkeren in de straten rond het hotel.

Popped in for a coffee, and whilst the venue and coffee was fine the only other table in there spoilt it as the couple were loud and kept playing their phones at full volume without regard for fellow patrons.

Posizione eccezionale, a due minuti a piedi dalla metro (zona 2). Rapporto qualità prezzo perfetto. Staff cordiale e disponibile. Letti comodi. WiFi gratuito ed eccezionalmente veloce. Se dovessi tornare a Londra guarderei ancora le offerte per questa struttura. Consigliato.

It's wonderful place to stay, near underground station, shops. maybe it's not city centre, there is no lift and 5* facilities, but there is great atmosphere, the owner is very nice, and he is like the spirit of this place. The room was very cosy and there was everything could need. The bed was so comfortable, I just coudn't get up. If I go to London, I will stay here again

This is a perfect find, just 15 mins tube out of London. The staff, all of them, are really friendly, kind and helpful, with a warm&welcoming service. The rooms are cosy, clean and comfy! Plus complimentary shampoo, shower gel and a hair dryer (big win!)

Nous venons de passer 2 nuits dans cet hôtel et c était vraiment très bien. C est mon 3 ème voyage à Londres et jusqu à maintenant c est le meilleur hôtel que j ai pu faire. Propreté,taille des chambres très correct pour la ville (habituellement minuscule) et surtout personnel très gentil. Cet hôtel va devenir notre "point de chute" lorsque nous retournerons sur Londres.

Ik heb 2 nachten verbleven in het hotel met mijn moeder. Alhoewel de verwarming het niet al te best deed, is het wel prima. Het is rustig in de omgeving en de kamers zijn precies waarvoor ze bedoeld zijn; verblijf en niet anders. Mij en mijn moeder hebben het beide wel bevonden uiteindelijk.

Absolutely amazing people! The owner and the team are probably the nicest folks you will meet in London. They allowed me to stay after check out to work in the restaurant area, and offered me coffee. Really made my day!

Stayed one night. Nice little B&B with lovely, accommodating staff in great location

Il mio è stato un soggiorno atipico in quanto di ben 12 notti. Questo hotel si è prestato benissimo. Con ordine: staff molto cordiale e Bernardo, il giovane 87enne che ne è il proprietario, è davvero persona squisita. Subito si crea un ambiente familiare. Tutti i giorni mi veniva chiesto se avessimo necessità di qualcosa relativo alla camera. L'hotel, che è anche un ristorante di cucina italiana, che negli anni ha ospitato tanti personaggi famosi come Paul McCartney e Peter O'Toole. è una struttura antica, ben tenuta, con camere in linea con i 3 stelle londinesi. Le camere sono abbastanza ampie, con bagno che considero "sufficiente" anche perché la doccia è grande. All'interno un piccolo armadio, il tavolino con sedia, alcune mensole e tutto il necessario per il tè. Ottimamente illuminato e ventilato. Al soffito una grande ventola. Tv a schermo piatto bello grande. Dotato di una Hall molto carina e rilassante, si trova a 5 minuti dalla stazione di Hampstead (linea nera) che ti porta ovunque in un quarto d'ora. Lo stesso discorso vale per i Bus. Trovandosi immerso nella Hampstead street, nei pressi ci sono tantissimi locali dove poter mangiare e bere ottimi drinks. Ma vicinissimo c'è anche La Pergola, un giardino meraviglioso dove recarsi per una passeggiata rilassante. Buona la colazione (suggerisco alla direzione l'aggiunta anche di quella inglese magari richiedendo un surplus nel prezzo) e ottimo il relativo servizio. Insomma, io lo straconsiglio tanto che, ogni qualvolta sarò a Londra, starò in questo hotel.

Situato nel cuore di uno dei più bei quartieri di Londra, il ristorante hotel La Gaffe è il posto ideale dove passare le vacanze. A pochi passi dalla stazione della metro Hampstead, servita dalla Northern Line, è possibile raggiungere in poco tempo il centro città e gli scambi utili per tutte le direzioni. La struttura è a conduzione familiare e il fondatore, il Sig. Bernardo Stella, è un ospite squisito come pochi. Chiacchierare con lui è stato piacevolissimo perché ha molto da raccontare (tra gli ospiti del ristorante si annoverano personaggi come Peter O'Toole e i Beatles): d'altronde è un pioniere della ristorazione Italiana a Londra nonché un uomo di profonda cultura e grande filantropo (i proventi dei suoi libri di poesie, per esempio, vengono devoluti a un ospedale per la lotta contro il cancro). L'hotel è una vecchia casa del 18° secolo, piccolo ma ben curato. Io ho pernottato ben 12 notti e sono stato benissimo: le stanze con il bagno rispecchiano lo standard di spaziosità dei tre stelle londinesi, sono comode e ben curate. Il personale delle pulizie è molto cortese e premuroso, pronto per ogni necessità (sebbene per la politica dell'albergo le stanze non vengano pulite tutti i giorni, viene effettuata la pulizia dietro semplice richiesta). La buona colazione continentale a buffet (the, caffè, cappuccino, toast, croissant, prosciutto, formaggio e frutta, nonché spremuta d'arancio e yogurt di tutti i tipi), viene servita nel locale del ristorante, una sala molto elegante e spaziosa, con sedute molto comode. Insomma, il tutto rispecchia la filosofia del fondatore, che dice che ogni cosa che si fa non deve per forza essere perfetta, ma deve sempre avere un'anima. L'hotel la Gaffe è un luogo con un'anima e le imperfezioni sono del tutto trascurabili rispetto all'accoglienza che si riceve. È sufficiente scambiare due parole con il Sig. Stella, sempre disponibile a bere un caffè con gli ospiti, per averne conferma.

A lovely well established family run restaurant , great quality Italian food, incredibly well priced for Hampstead and very attentive service.

Fijn hotel op een goede locatie en zeer vriendelijk personeel! Alleen overnacht (twee nachten), niet gegeten. Ontbijt is simpel maar lekker en netjes verzorgd. Hotelkamer was redelijk klein, maar had alles wat we nodig hadden, ook koffie en thee. Het was erg warm toen we er waren, maar de ventilator boven het bed werkte goed. Leuke locatie, dicht bij Hampstead Park (tip: zwem-meer op 15-20 minuten loopafstand, wel betalen en reserveren) en met een groter metrostation op korte loopafstand. Vanuit daar waren veel plekken rechtstreeks te bereiken. Voor ons een aanrader (als je geen grote luxe kamer nodig hebt).

Would have been 2 stars if not for the very good waiter. The food was still tasty (sauces were excellent) but all meat was overcooked.

An absolute gem! We went for lunch and were really impressed with everything. This is a family restaurant with a lovely story behind. It's celebrating 60th anniversary this year and counts both famous people and many locals amongst them. I loved the decor and the impeccable service. The food was freshly made and tasted fantastic. We had lasagne and a vegetarian pasta and loved both. The menu has something for everyone. There are great options for vegans, vegetarians, pescaterians and meat eaters :) It is reasonably priced but service is included in your bill. La Gaffe is close to Hamstead Station and not far from the lovely Pergola Garden.

This was my favorite place to stay. I love the location the owners are truly amazing. I can't wait to come back. I loved waking up in the morning here it was like a dream.

Estuvimos hospedados alli dos dias, la recepcion genial, las habitaciones súper comodas, tiene ventilador de techo, cafetera, muy cerca de la.estacion de metro, el desayuno basico pero delicioso, la cama comodisima, puedes entrar y salir a cualquier hora. A pesar de leer comentarios negativos, me arriesgué y la verdad no se en qué se basan esos comentarios, todo estuvo genial¡.

Highly recommendable for service and food! Very warm welcome, met 3 generations of the family that runs the hotel while there. Loved the quirky layout. Only a few hundred metres to Hampstead station, and Hampstead Heath round the corner.

Real Italian food the way I love it. As if you are in Italy. In my 4 days here in Londen this restaurant was the best!

Great accomodation in the heart of Hampstead, a Family-Run Guesthouse & Restaurant, he area is nice and calm and most important a few minutes walk from the metro. Rooms are very clean and spacious, great continental breakfast. staff very friendly and helpful. Charming 60's-decò style interiors. Great WiFI, in the rooms.

Service was horrible. Waited forever for every aspect of the dining experience. Seemed we were a last priority for the staff. Food was fine. Don’t get the lamb unless you want to be hungry 5 mins later. Was 3 chops - the meat portion was smaller than diameter of ping pong balls. Nothing with it either for a very hefty price. Nothing positive about the place.

Food would have been delicious if chef hadn’t thrown a handful of rocksalt over it. I ended up vomiting and sending the food back. My dining partner also unable to eat her meal. Waiter scarcely apologised. No manager to speak to. Presented with a large bill for inedible food. Do not go

This is a charming authentic Italian Restaurant - a very pleasant place to go and eat. The food is great, you can also ask them to change your option to suit your taste - and they will do this whenever possible. For example I asked for risotto primavera (mixed spring vegetables) instead of mushroom risotto. It was very tasty. And what is important is that is is a quiet place where you can have a chat and not be disturbed by loud pop music. I will come again soon!

Dreadful service….. The owner/manager has an overall bad attitude towards his clientele. Really needs to improve both his attitude and the service. Serving only 15 covers and having to wait an inordinate amount of time between courses is unacceptable. What happens when the restaurant is full!! I won’t be going back, even though the food is very good.

Alle hier sind wirklich super nett. Leider gibt es auch kleine Hindernisse. Das Haus ist wirklich sehr alt. Die Ausstattung entsprechend. Aber wer soetwas liebt ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben❤! Bitte versucht ein Zimmer nach hinten raus zu bekommen . Vorne ist die Hauptverkehrsstrasse und die ganze Nacht richtig was los. Aber Lorenzo hat auch hierfür vorgesorgt, es lagen Ohrenstöpsel aufen Zimmer. Alles in allem war es ein schöner Aufenthalt.

The food was well prepared as always but the service was extremely slow and there were some communication problems. It was clear that having only one person on the tables was insufficient.

Couldn't work out why this place wasn't packed on a Saturday night. Food was excellent, very tasty authentic Italian fare. Only one guy working the tables so maybe it can be a bit slow at times but if you are a lover of really good cooking you must try here. Big thumbs up to the chef and the guy who looked after us!!

Good food in a very welcoming environment . Alex was the only waiter we saw on the night and his level of service was exceptional which lead to a very pleasant evening. We will definitely be back!

An old school restaurant that suited our preference. Food was excellent, especially the trout with almonds. Waiter was friendly and efficient in an understated manner - a rare, but welcome approach in restaurants. Will definitely find our way back to La Gaffe when next in London.

So, the waiter was kind of nice, but i could hear constant swearing from the kitchen and that was him…, i didnt feel respected…, Next, the fork! Omg, i couldnt grab salad with it,embarassing. People watchEd me eating with hands. Ha! And now bruschetta. That was toasted dry bread with not enough/ fried vegies. This should melt my month but…,well, i put lots of oil, salt, and that was quite ok, The wine was good. And spaghetti…lol I get dry noodles, ok? I mean wthl!!!!no joke. On the top of that a few mushrooms, little vegies, very little. No flavor at all. Like at all. Again i put lots of oil to get more flavor. Even waiter said that its better if i put oil. Hahahah So, he knew its not Best . Shame, cos i am in Hampstead quite often, and i love Italian food, but…, its a good bye.

Lovely, quaint hotel and restaurant. It seems to have been stuck in a 60's/70's time warp, but in a good way! Excellent Italian food, very well cooked, no frills. Very good, professional and attentive service. We were a bit worried about the lack of double glazing, but it's a quiet area and the room was warm and cosy.

Everyone from 11year old grandson to grandparents enjoyed the varied and tasty food. Friendly efficient service. We love La Gaffe.

Booked this restaurant expecting a traditional Italian feel however unfortunately the décor and food felt more like a school trip dinner. The food was extremely basic especially the side options such a broccoli and roast potatoes these were both basic and tasteless. The seating arrangement feels awkward and too close, the staff were polite enough. Unfortunately this was a disappointing evening.

We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and we had a lovely time doing so in this restaurant. The service was prompt, the waiters were very respectful and responsive to us. The ambiance was perfect. We enjoyed the food and the portion sizes were good. We thought that our first time experience was excellent and definitely value for money.

Such a disappointment…. Where do I begin?! £18.95 for a portion of LIVER?! Which contains two 1/4 inch slices and nothing more… it is absolutely outrageous. £5 for 8 finger-sized slices of fried courgettes Unfortunately, a first and a last. We’d rather save our money and not pay a babysitter and a £80 bill on top for such a waste Such a waste!

Unfortunately, my main dish ''salmon'' didn't taste nice... The Salmon itself was OK but I found something unpleasant inside the sauce or on the top of the salmon... However, my husband enjoyed whole dishes...

We really enjoyed this place, right in the heart of hampstead village, very tasty food and drink tgat didn't cost the eart. Friendly staff,. Would have been nice to have more people in there for better ambience but it was a poor day weather wise, so was understandable, nevertheless we woukd go back. We loved it.

Tres bonne adresse, cuisine italienne avec de bons produits frais, tres bon accueil ,les chambres petite mais propres fonctionnelles, la mienne au rez de chaussee parfaite. Petit-déjeuner varie . Hotel tres bien situé près de la station de.metro bus etcc en plus face au suoerbe park d d'Hampstead. Je reviendrai vraiment sympa je recommande ce bel enndroit .propriétaire 👍👍
