La Dragon in East Ayrshire

Really bland special fried rice and crispy Szechwan chicken was soggy and bland and really salty , not great . To be honest we’ve been before and it wasn’t bad but we spent £84 for 2 people and at those prices it has to be great every time . Disappointed and unlikely to return which is a shame .

This place is lovely very modern would recommend a must visit Staff very pleasant on our arrival showing us to our booked table and asking politely how we are feeling. After our drinks arrived ready to order food went for the 2 course meal. If you only wanted a main meal you can have and they just adjust the bill at the end. Can not fault any food well almost my mum felt her food was not warm enough but that just her as 90% of the time she take her dinner home. Everyone enjoyed starters and main meals good size portions and would say all food is freshly made and the atmosphere is very nice and staff very friendly asking at the correct times if they can help in any way Toilets are clean and fresh and parking is right across the road or just slightly round corner to public car park free after 6pm ( please check ) Looking forward to our return as my son and daughter in-law bought me a £100 gift card as I love this restaurant

The food was delicious and cooked this time to perfection. The only complaint is the price of a pint of beer, which is rather excessive. Overall though, the dining experience was very good indeed.

Made my sons 21st Birthday absolutely brilliant. Couldn't have done enough. Service staff were brilliant, food was amazing. Will definitely be back x

Celebrated a family birthday here. The service was very good and the staff couldn't do enough for you. The food was not bad, but it wasn't great either. 2 people out of a group of 7 of us had odd sauces with our dishes. 1st dish was meant to have a Plum sauce, which is thick and sweet, but this sauce was spicy, garlicky, and had chilli in it, definitely not a Plum sauce. 2nd dish was meant to have a sweet & sour sauce, but it was all sour, no sweetness to it at all... I only ate half of it. It's a shame because the cooking of the meat was tender, but both dishes spoiled by the sauce. 1 pudding price was taken off the final bill, because it was more greasy than it should have been. I was impressed they took the cost of the pudding off the bill. Overall, I'm not sure I would go back, as no matter the decor or the service, eating out is expensive and everyone wants to get what they pay for.

Brilliant food and awesome service. This is definitely worth a visit if you're in Kilmarnock. Do keep their spicy meter in mind while ordering. Best part is that the entire curry is spiced, which means you taste the brilliance of the chef. The staff are also very courteous and helpful. It was so good we returned the next day to confirm. PS. Their salt and spicy chips is delicious.

Wow - what a quality Chineese Restaurant .. chicken Quality and flavours excellent...went for takeaway..£7-10 more expensive than the run of the mill Chineese Takeaway, but worth every penny just for the Quality of the food was outstanding..A ++++++

Food was tasteless and chewy therefore was not worth the money considering how dear they charge and felt uncomfortable as everyone was staring - snobs

Served steak but don't have steak knives.

Portions were a decent size, atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good but the food was disappointing. The vegetable hot and sour soup on the whole started with a good taste but was spoiled by weird bits of cucumber floating in it. The Szechuan beef didn’t taste like it had a Szechuan pepper near it and turned out more like a beef stew. Heard it was a good restaurant but didn’t please me .

I ordered chilli and salt beef and chilli and salt fries and was given food that had an entire head of garlic crushed and added to the two tiny bowls of food. I am highly sensitive to garlic and would not have thought what I ordered would have any garlic in it. When I asked for my meal to be refunded, I was allowed to comp the fries but because I had taken two bites of the beef, they forced me to pay. Chilli and Salt should never have garlic - and if your chef insists on adding it then put that in the description so customers can make informed decisions about their meals. I expected chilli oil and salt not the disgusting and vile meal I received.

I have been twice to la dragon this summer and look forward to going again. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and it is beautifully decorated in art deco style. Highly recommended.

Visiting Ayrshire for the day and had a fantastic meal in this resturant it was totally brilliant decor great staff amazing food delicious highly recommend not in Kilmarnock much but will defo visit again

Dined in a few times now and had takeout too. Never disappoints! Is a bit pricey in comparison to other Chinese restaurants but it's a nice treat.

This restaurant is normally fantastic, however, on our last visit the starters were bland, and the shredded chicken main dishes were overcooked and very chewy to eat. It seems, since losing their head chef, this restaurant has seriously declined in quality, but continues to charge extremely high prices for its food & drink. Not at all happy with our entire meal, as the fried rice was the only thing that was cooked to perfection!

Food was lovely. Staff didn't seem to like my face, felt rushed and under suspicion. Even when I was paying the bill, he was looking in trepidation and he congratulated me when my payment went through first time. I felt really out of place and under constant scrutiny. Food was really good, small portions though. But won't be back because of the helicopter waiter

Came to la dragon just for a drink in the gorgeous champagne cocktail bar. The service and cocktails from Steven was amazing.. full of chat and amazing cocktails he made our experience great .. will definitely be back to see Steven again .. if you want the best cocktails .. Steven will look after you well .. thank you xx

Decided to try here again after bad previous experience. Food average at best. Rice the most bizarre thing ever, it was so dry and powdery! Beef satay was like a runny beef stew. Salt and peppers chips were just chips with seasoning on them, no onions or peppers. Two of us was £80 😂😂😂 and that was in the cheap menu 🫣 won’t be back

Walked downstairs and was pleasantly surprised at this gem of a restaurant. Service was very welcoming and food was delish, loved the warm and cosy atmosphere and would recommend to all.

Great food but expensive Glasgow prices, always a nice relaxed atmosphere, it's the best Chinese in Kilmarnock but definitely the most expensive.

Food was great, not sure if it’s a coincidence but me and my partner ended up with bad stomachs the next day unfortunately on my birthday. Service was not great, apparently they couldn’t split the bill between people and handed us a calculator to sort it ourselves so I’m not sure if I’d go back again if I’m honest.

Terrible customer service. Booked a table for 13 guests a month in advance. Turned up at the restaurant only to be told that there was no booking. The manager could not have been ruder, answering the phone whilst speaking to me about the situation. It transpired that they had entered our booking on the wrong date. The manager then said that someone had called me to find out why we hadn't appeared, a lie that was quickly disproved with a scroll through my call history. He then said that it was human error and asked me what I expected him to do about it. I appreciate that mistakes happen but there wasn't even an apology from the manager who could not have cared less that 13 people had turned up to his restaurant to be turned away. Basic customer service sadly lacking.

Took my kids here for their birthdays both loved it and staff were great. Nothing was a problem. Food was amazing and red wine was tremendous 👌 we will be back.

A posh and expensive Chinese. We had take away. It was good, but not as good as we wanted it to be after paying 55 quid for the two.

We were going through Kilmarnock town and actually came across this restaurant by accident the food was amazing the best we've had in a long time if you're ever flying out of ( Prestwick Airport ) cut off for Kilmarnock and go to this restaurant for a meal its so soooooo good I can't say enough of how brilliant this place was ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

We had booked a table for 5 pm. Went down the stairs, the waiter asked, "Have you booked we said yes, we had. The manager said well just put them anywhere, not a nice start to our dinner. The staff were lovely. The food was ok. It was my first time there? It will be a while until I am back.

Used to be thecplace to go but last night was poor, my wife ordered soup and when served we had to ask for soup spoon when main course came again we had to ask for cutlery

Food was excellent as ever, and serving staff were very attentive. The only issues we had was the staff member who took our booking was very offhand, and we were stuck at a small corner table.

The website has a table d'hote menu which represents better value, however on arrival we were informed it was only valid until 6:45. On questioning this (it was 6:47 or so), the manager mentioned that the menu only operated until 6pm. Neither of these times were on the website or the menu within it. The food was great but it was disappointing (and more expensive for sure!) to be told the published menu was unavailable. This time restriction should be made more visible on the website

Excellent food and service, and the company was OK as well

Been a few times but the past couple of experiences have been disappointing. The chicken curry was bland with little taste. The sauce was thin and the chicken tasteless. Also wasn’t enough of the sauce relative to the rice portion. Prawn crackers not great either. Sweet and sour was okay but nothing special. On a positive note, the service was speedy and the restaurant was clean. Also good parking nearby.

Disappointed, this is the only Chinese restaurant my husband will go to as he isn’t keen on Chinese food and we normally really enjoy it. Unfortunately this time we were left feeling disappointed in everything, our table wasn’t ready and we were told to go upstairs for a drink the service is really slow as the bar staff were under pressure, half an hour later we were taken to our table without any apology as soon as we sat down and opened the menu the waitress was there trying to take our order then again 5 min later. When we did give our order I asked for my duck to be done medium so it still had a bit of pink.. food came out and duck was over cooked. The staff don’t look happy at all. They work hard it’s a shame I felt sorry for them. Chinese take away for me from now on I think

The most stunning interior very luxurious but most importantly the food was spectacular sauces 200/10 delicious made with love, chicken with lime skewered chicken, Szechuan chicken, fillet steak in garlic chilli sauce were out of this world and we have tried them around the world and la dragon best by far🙏

Ordered a takeaway & we really loved the food. We will order again & May dine in. They also have a champagne bar.

Went today for Lunch, genuinely think I’ve found our new favourite Chinese restaurant. The service, atmosphere & just the whole overall set up was great. Recommended to a few friends & family already. Although we are from the far end of Glasgow we go to the Cotton House & Lychee a lot but this is worth the journey down. Best salt & chilli chicken I have ever tried. The chicken curry is very fragrant but the right amount of flavours and spices. Highly recommend. Service was great too, just the main host & one other guy on today but very attentive and made sure everything was good/topped up. It isn’t the cheapest you will try but it’s the quality, you won’t find like this anywhere else. Looking forward to going back.

The atmosphere was very pleasant, the whole restaurant is very clean, modern and the team couldn't be more helpful and accomodating. The ambient temperature was very comfortable and cool, despite it being very hot outside. I have been a few times and never been disappointed. I will definitely be back

I have not been at La Dragon for some time and have never had any complaints . This particular visit was very disappointing. It was a Saturday evening, so would expect it to be busy but it was like being in a cattle market. Customers standing in a queue, what felt like every where you looked, including queuing on the stairs. We could hardly hear ourselves talking to each other. No ambience what so ever. The service .. quick but sadly thats the only positive point I have to make . Staff definitely do not look happy. The food was definitely just average, all of us felt it was over seasoned with salt. Not at all like previous visits to La Dragon. Sadly this establishment has lost what originally put it above other places- great food, great ambience, great customer experience… we all agreed, we wont be back .

Booked a table to celebrate 40th wedding anniversary and was looking forward to having a drink in champagne lounge but lounge is only open on Fri, Sat and Sun but nobody told us and nobody cared when we complained to management, but food is good shame about the rest.

Disappointed … hard rice , back heated chips overly spicy watery beef curry totally lacking in flavour. Won’t be back a waste of money.

La dragon tonight was a lesson in customer service. Starters were very good but we had questions about our mains which were dealt with promptly with no fuss. Could I have a sauce with my chicken that wasn’t on the list? No problem. My partner had the dry salt and chilli chicken but wondered if it would be too dry. Recommend sauce brought on the side just in case which was a good call by the waiter.

First time here hadn’t booked waitress asked the chief I am assuming and he said no booking through the back that immediately made us feel awkward. Quick to serve but felt like the owner/chief was looking around almost like are they nearly finished to get more people in. Also felt a bit crammed. Overall food was okay but five star better all round and friendlier more relaxed setting and probably cheaper too. Won’t be back

Booked this venue for an intimate surprise birthday diner for my sister and 16 guests and was amazed at their customer service , decor, food and fantastic cocktails, I genuinely couldn’t fault all of the management team for making the experience a successful and memorable one . For a restaurant that pitches itself as some sort of luxurious dining experience, I’d have expected decent service and good food. Instead it was like some sort of cattle market with the food average at best. They clearly wanted us in and out as quickly as possible to get the next lot in. Different waiting throughout the night who didn’t know anything about the food or the drink and left us waiting for drinks while they got on with something else (eg setting up the table next to us). Food was no better than our local takeaway. Won’t be back unfortunately.

Loved the meal, only thing i was slightly upset about was we asked when we came in if they could maybe stick a candle in 1 of our deserts or just pipe happy b/day on plate for my daughter, said yes but didnt. This did not detract from how we enjoyed the meal and is not a complaint, but did upset us.

Food is fantastic and staff are great. But £38 for a bottle of Sauvinon Blanc??!! Chase yourself. £83 for 2 starters and 2 mains and a drink? Way too expensive for wine.

We have wanted to try this restaurant for a while now, so today we went for lunch, very impressed with the decor- really lovely, seating was very comfortable, we were attended to very quickly and offered the drink menu, we decided on the 2 courses for £18, the duck spring rolls were delicious as was the salt and chilli chicken, we ordered the black bean beef and the szechuan chicken with egg fried rice and the chilli fries, absolutely lovely, really generous portions too. The service was quick and very polite, also a big 'tick' is - hot dinner plates, elegant wine glass, elegant cutlery and pipping hot food, we will definately be back.

Interesting take on Chinese cuisine, good variety which was nicely presented. The service was a bit slow at times which would not have been a problem, however their were only three tables occupied in the section we were seated in at the time our main course arrived.

My daughter and her fiancé went to La Dragon with a £100 gift voucher. They enjoyed their meal and asked the waiter for the cocktail menu. After 20 mins of trying to get the waiters attention they decided to get the bill which came to £81. The Manager came over and told them they would get no change from their Voucher and kept the £19!!! They were so shocked they just left. We phoned to complain and got nothing but abuse over the phone from the Manager who then hung up on us!!!! Won’t be back!! Worst service ever experienced from a Restaurant!!

The owner is horrible to staff. One server accidentally spilt a drink and was looking around tear eyed scared of what he'd say. his face when he saw what happened was scary for myself a customer. He also makes you feel very rushed to eat and get out to make room for all his over bookings. I had the pleasure of sitting right next to the waiting to be seated desk. People turning up on time were sent upstairs to wait for ages due to there being "no tables ready" Very poor management skills. The girls serving tables were the only good thing about this place. Food is good but very overpriced.

Great for a special occasion. I bit more pricey than your normal Chinese restaurant. But the interior setting and food deserves the higher price. Great to go for cocktails in the champagne bar before your meal.

Came in today and had a lovely meal, very tasty and good portion size. The service was excellent, all the staff were very pleasant and attentive. I would highly recommend!

Was expecting big things from the place after reading some reviews and hearing from a few of the group who had eaten here before. There was 6 of us and to be fair, the service was quick and friendly. We were quickly shown to our table and drink orders were taken. The place was mobbed and visually looks very impressive. The food came fairly quickly and the portion sizes were good. My only issue was the food isn't any better than what I would get from a local takeaway and there was no justification for the overpriced food. Wouldn't feel the need to rush back.

Отдельный плюс за невероятную чистоту, все поверхности блестели. Также порадовал очень внимательный и профессиональный официант. Теперь на счёт еды. Порция стартера небольшая, а вот основное блюдо огромное. Я еле как доела, и этого было очень много. Моя претензия в излишней европеизации заведения. Я не против отсутствия палочек для еды в китайском ресторане, но проблема именно во вкусе. Единственное, что указывает на «азиатскость»– вкус кунжутного масла в жаренном рисе. Совсем не хватило пряности, кислоты и остроты. Хотя, может шотландцам такое и нравится. Напитки вполне неплохие, коктейль Cinderella был кисловатым, а вот Pina Colada отменный.

Heard about this little gem when visiting friends in Killie last year. Managed to get the chance to enjoy the stunning setting and fabulous hosts. Great food and a lovely feel to the restaurant. Looking forward to the next time.

I was so excited to try here but felt so let down after Saturdays visit. We arrived an hour early hoping to try the cocktail bar but after waiting for half an hour to be served after being seated we gave up and went for a walk until our table downstairs was ready instead. When we were seated downstairs our food order was taken quickly and our drinks and starters arrived within 25 minutes of being seated. However once cleared it then took an hour and twenty minutes to get our mains and we had to flag each time we wanted a drink - it was busy but in total for 2 hours to be served two drinks each and a starter and main is a bit excessive even despite the restaurant being busy. It cost around £80 in total for two cocktails, two beers and a starter and main each - the food wasn’t better than a takeaway but the interior is stunning. Wouldn’t return but I’m glad we tried it at least.

Food and service was great, a bit of a wait for food, but the restaurant was full and there was a large table in at the same time.

We have been massive fans of La Dragon for years and regularly promote it to friends and family. We always rated it higher than City Centre high end Chinese restaurants. For the first time ever, the quality has dipped. I usually could eat the King Prawn La dragon special all day long, but something was missing. My wife’s satay skewers were really dry. The mains came and although we all know it is chicken or beef with a sauce poured over it, the presentation is such where the meat is coated. The crispy beef peking was 50/50 with dry beef sticking out. The Toban is getting more and more padded out with veg. The biggest disappointment was the noodles, they were bone dry and slightly fishy. The noodles are usually to die for. There was a sign about staff shortages and I am beginning to think it is new chefs. I really hope this was an off day but that was why it was my favourite local restaurant, because they used to have zero off days and was consistently top notch. Please get the wheels back on!!

Visited Kilmarnock on Saturday the 21st and decided to pick here to have a meal. We were not disappointed, by far the best Chinese restaurant we have visited, food was 1st class and cannot recommend this place enough, hopefully we get the chance to stay in Kilmarnock again,if only to visit this place again.
