Very hit and miss with this restaurant. I left a review 18 months ago about the poor quality of the dishes being served and sadly they have let themselves down yet again. We ordered a takeaway and the egg fried rice was poor. I do not know what they gave us but it was not egg fried rice. What we received was more like steamed rice thrown into a wok and fried off. Absolutely disgusting no egg and very claggy. The chicken and cashew dish in a yellow bean sauce was cold and no sauce. The two other main dish we had were OK but the amount this establishment charges you, you expect quality and not substandard dishes.

really disappointed. We had a few recommendations from family but it failed to live up to our expectations. Food was nice but initially they tried to seat us in a dark corner beside the kids toys with no one else around us so although we booked we had to wait 1/2 hour for a table. The service was poor waited ages for each course. I think this was due to the kitchen being really busy with take away. There were always people waiting for their take away and it was a Saturday night. Shame coz it could of been so much better but doubt we`ll try again.

I had a delivery, for the first time from this restaurant and i wasn't imprest with the food if I'm honest. The food was luke warm not hot .also it was very disappointed with the king prawns they werenot fresh were hard sauce was very spicy for me . Shame but I have tryed it .

Terrible service. Supermarket microwave quality food. Booked a table for five for son’s birthday on Friday. Very disappointing. Have been coming to Kongs for years and it used to be a great restaurant. Not sure if it is under new ownership but will not be going back. Cold food. Inattentive staff. 2 hours till main meal started arriving, then a 15 minute wait for all dish’s to be brought out Messed up orders - duck in orange sauce came out as duck with pineapple. £135 and two and a half hours I’ll never get back.

Considering there were only three of us, we had to wait 5 minutes between each individual getting their dishes. Needless to say, the first person needed to eat theirs or it would have gone cold, and had almost finished by the time the last person was served. The Kung Po chicken is unlike any I have had before - and I don't mean in a good way. Not sure what it was, but the closest I could describe it was simply chicken covered in sweet chilli sauce. Had no substance (texture) or chilli kick to it. Crispy duck was ok for a starter.

If it’s a takeaway, then it’s Kongs. Food always excellent, staff always friendly.

Not the option for take away re View, absolutley disgusting, food cold, even living 500 metres away! Cold, tasteless, asked for bean sprouts , got none but oodles of noodles! Argh! Never ever again! BE WARNED!!!!!

We come here often and we have also recommended friends to come here too and we also bring friends and family time to time. As on from tonight you have lost us as a local customer, I was made to pay a service charge which is supposed to be compulsory. This Chinese restaurant is not cheap, it is very expensive but the quality of food and service is sufficient enough to pay it however to pay an additional £10 service charge is an absolute joke, the waiter literally hovering around our table as I was paying and told me that I under paid and that I MUST pay the service charge despite me challenging it. Literally £70 for a meal for 2 with one diet cola each because of the service charge, it was not made clear at all that you HAVE to pay it, it's actually illegal to the point I have reported you to the defra service standard adjudicator and filled out a form with trade and standards through citizens advice. Enjoy the £10 you fiddled from me because I assure you we will not be returning and I will never recommend you again. That £10 will easily mount up to thousands in the long run. Not happy at all guys, very unprofessional.

We opted for the buffet which we found to be plentiful and most choices were tasty. We felt the service was quite business like but friendly. Prices were in keeping with the local area. We would return.

Was recommended by a friend and had an amazing Mothers Day experience with my fiancee and her family. I must say, WOW! The food is absolutely delicious. We had the option of both All you can Eat and also the set menu for mothers day. We chose the all you can eat buffet and it was delicious. The service was friendly however a little slow but overall a great experience. We would definetly be back next time! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good night out on an occasion or for takeaway!

What a terrible experience for mothers day me and my mother arrived first and straight away the older man came to us pushing us to order the mothers day deal 5 times in a row we said we would think about it as soon as my brother and father arrived he went away. He then came back shortly not explaining that the choices chosen by my brother and father were buffet items . So they went ahead as normal he explained that my mother's deal with me got a free round of drinks this was not clear what deal this was attached too . My drink was meant to be a double malibu coke it tasted like blackcurrant the towards like mouth wash . Me and my mum after nearly 3 hours of waiting still had no mains despite being first in the restaurant to be then told all the dishes were part of the buffet and not to be taken home so they were charging extra on top of this we decided to leave the rest of the food as was starving and it came to £95 despite no food served apart from the apparent buffet which we was not allowed to touch everyone else had food I feel this was a racial ethnicity attack based on who was at our table and how we were treated had a takeaway years ago which was lovely but it has really gone down terrible rude disorganised con service!!

I regret to convey that our Mother's Day experience at the restaurant was marred by an unsatisfactory atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were not informed of the option for an "eat as much as you want" menu, leading us to select a more expensive set menu. Despite a two-hour wait, only starters were served. When inquiring about our main meals, we were informed they would investigate, but after an additional two hours, we chose to leave due to hunger. The quality of the drinks was subpar, and regrettably, we sensed differential treatment possibly based on my partner's ethnicity. Worse Chinese restaurant ever! Stay away!

A succulent Chinese meal! The food was fantastic, filling and flavoursome. Good portion sizes, even with the buffet option. The food is cooked hot and ready to order, meaning minimal wastage of a traditional buffet and far superior quality. The owners are so incredibly friendly and will always make you feel welcome. I cannot recommend highly enough!

Patrick and all the staff were so friendly and some of our party were regulars but they were so welcoming to even us that were visiting! Super tasty freshly cooked food, was absolutely the best Chinese iv had in a very long time.

Food nowhere near the previous standard, portion size has reduced, and made to feel wrong for asking for more than one piece of already small prawn toast. the cost has risen very sharply over the last 6 months.

The all you can eat is the best around. The shredded duck is always a favourite and their beef with oyster sauce is absolutely banging. I love dining in but I also love a takeaway too. The staff recognise me and always talk to me and make me feel very welcome. Shame you don’t deliver for when I’m feeling lazy :D

Would never eat at this restaurant again. They served us twice raw chicken and the joke we had to pay £130 for the privilege. Avoid at all costs.

Had some problems with Kongs before and now after 2 visits I must say food quality has improved MASSIVELY and very good for price. Friendly staff also. Highly recommended for anyone looking for chinese takeaway or restaurant.

You might ask where is Bourne End, well it is near Cookham, it is not far from Windsor, it is walking distance from the River Thames, and if you are looking for delicious Chinese food then you would be mad to drive by! There is so much choice, Patrick is the man in charge and he and all his staff will make you feel welcome from the moment you put your head through the door. We live in Oxford but we are always happy to pop in whenever we are in their part of Berkshire and we come out bursting from all the gorgeous food.

First visit to Kongs since shortly before Covid and very glad we went there. Service was good and friendly. A group of six of us and we had the “All you can eat” menu. With a bit of guidance from the waiter we ordered just the right amount of dishes. Everyone was full and no wastage. The food was all excellent. We were given a drink on the house which was a nice touch. A very enjoyable evening and an easy five stars to give

Been here probably about 8 times in last couple of years...every time the whole experience was good...however this time the food was awful. If you like your food having such powerful chillies that you cannot taste whether you are eating chicken or beef or pork or vegetables then you will enjoy. However whilst I like chillies in moderation this was completely overpowering and ruined the whole meal. Apparently they have just got a new chef but if that's what he does with the food then they can keep it because I won't be going back

Really gone downhill. Used to go here lots but it seems it’s under new management for the worse. Poor food quality, very very expensive for what you get and the owner/manager was grumpy and rude. Service charge was assumed.

We've been visiting Kongs regularly for many years & keep coming back because we always enjoy the food & the staff always look after us, especially Patrick, whom we have known for many years. However busy the restaurant is, he always manages to make time to have a quick word or two which makes us feel valued & welcome.

Went for a family celebration had a fantastic time nothing too much trouble for staff, hot and delicious food. Highly recommended

Having been a regular customer at Kongs for many years, my Wife and I ordered a takeaway on Monday 24th July and can honestly say that the food my Wife ordered which was Kung Po Chicken was not only under cooked but she found a chickens claw in the food. My Wife is now in bed with bad food poisoning and following a complaint to the Manager yesterday the 26th July he offered me a £7.60 refund off of my next order. We will not be ordering anymore food from Kongs, this message is to warn people of the bad service and lack of care, not withstanding the poor quality of the food on this occasion.

We had an amazing meal here. It was at this restraunt when we first tasted crispy noodles with beef in blackbean sauce. The meal was wonderful and was packed with so many flavours. I highly recommended you go to this place!

Rang a takeaway order through last night which was £63 on their website, only to be told by the manager that the website prices were out of date and wrong and real total was £84. We will not be returning.

Been ordering from this restaurant for years. I'm very disappointed with the quality of food that is now being served. Very bland, tasteless dishes and on top of all that extremely expensive. Sadly we won't be ordering again from here as most of the food is terrible.

Unanimously the worst food our table had ever eaten. Dry, ridiculously salty and overpriced. Everything on the menu is brown and fried. I'm sorry to say this.

We ate here on Saturday evening for a late birthday celebration for our cousin. The restaurant was very busy but we had booked a table so that wasn’t a problem. After reading some of the comments on here we were a little concerned as this is one of our favourite restaurants in this area. The quality of the food and service were both excellent. The staff were very friendly and we overheard them advising people who hadn’t eaten there before about certain dishes and how to order from the banquet menu. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We will certainly be back again soon .

We used to love this place but visited last week and the food terrible. Chinese ready meal from tesco's would have had more flavour. Also just read in local newspaper that they had a visit from the hygiene people and have been awarded one star so won't be going back

Had a lovely evening, very nice food. Ruined by being challenged by the owner/manager for not paying the OPTIONAL SERVICE CHARGE!! As a low-paid NHS worker, I do not get tipped for my service, I get paid an hourly rate for doing my job. I assume all the staff at the restaurant also get paid an hourly rate, therefore no one should need to be tipped…….

We first came to Kong's about 40 years ago. Our most recent visit was last weekend. Sadly, it is no longer the treat that it used to be. I have happy memories of 'special' Christmas, birthday and New Year meals spent there but would no longer risk a special occasion in this restaurant. I remember when women were given a single red rose when leaving. On our most recent visit we were overcharged and for the first time in his life my husband asked for the automatically added service charge to be removed from the bill. The service was truly that bad! We were a group of 4 adults and 2 children, we arrived as soon as they opened and left over 3 hours later having had no dessert or coffee. At one point I had to get up and get our wine from a table nearby where the waiter had put it but had then left it and ignored our empty glasses. By way of explanation for the long waits between courses they kept apologizing and saying that they were very busy but there were several vacant tables. I think they just didn't have enough staff for a Saturday evening and the takeaway service seemed to be taking priority. And worst of all, the food just wasn't of a high standard, or even satisfactory. Most dishes were cold and overcooked, giving the impression that the food was being cooked quickly enough but was then left lying around. I can honestly say that we have never had a worse meal in Kongs and I would be very hesitant about a return visit. So sad.

Very nice and friendly restaurant, staff were lovely to my children. The food was really tasty and we weren't disappointed anything we chose on the menu. We went for the all you can eat menu and would highly recommend it to anyone if you're in the area

I have used Kongs 4 times in the last few months and here are my thoughts. THE GOOD: The staff are friendly and the food is nice. THE NOT SO GOOD: items were missing from 3 of the 4 orders I placed. The first couple of times this happened, I had to drive back to the restaurant to collect the items (I don't live in Bourne End). On the last occasion, I asked them to check the order before I collected and explained what had happened in the past. On arrival I asked them to double check as I didn't want another unnecessary round trip. Sadly there were two items missing. It may be due to the fact that they were busy but I will not be returning as I simply don't need the hassle of having to check that I have received what I have paid for each time.

We had a lovely meal. Nice, fresh and tasty. The staff were very pleasant to talk to and quick to serve use.

Ordered a takeaway from here on Saturday night. We had previously had two takeaways and both times items from our order were missing, resulting in my husband having to go back to the restaurant to pick up said items. With this in mind we made a point of asking them to double check our order before we collected it which they assured us that they would do. However, upon collection 2 items were missing yet again. Thankfully my husband picked up on this before leaving the restaurant so we were saved a return trip. Chicken was tough and over cooked so we ended up binning it. We shall not order from here again. Such a shame.

Overly priced for what it is; would not recommend this to anyone who has had good asian food before. Sweet and sour chicken and kung pao chicken tasted exactly the same. Crispy beef dish was also served with the exact same sauce. Egg fried rice was average. Waiter didn't even let us finish our drinks and food properly before insisting the table cloth had to be removed along with all the dishes so that "it can be put into the wash". Would have understood the logic behind it if there were customers waiting to use the table after us but the shop was barely even half full..

Food could be made better! I ordered noodles, but still didn't get the sauses. (I didn't ask separately 😅) But overall taste wise it is good and good ambience!!

Have been a frequent customer of Kongs for years but in recent months, our takeways have been of poor standard. Often they are cold even though I have been waiting inside and the order just arrived, my drive home is less than 3 mins. Really disappointing! The young chap who often answers the phone at a weekend is amazing, just a shame that the kitchen staff can't serve up decent food for their loyal customers (and on that note; they don't even know who their loyal customers are).

Had a meal there with 11 friends last night. Food was excellent,staff friendly and attentive. Portions were large, even too large! Left feeling very full and satisfied. Price was good. £40 per head average , including more than enough drink.

This used to be a really nice restaurant, but it has changed for the worst in recent months/years. Food is now very pricey and the service is now very poor. On a plus side their chicken satay is lovely.

Been to Kongs many times over the last 10 years but something has changed. Service last night was poor, food was poor in places and some of the dishes far too salty. Go and get the Lidl 1/2 duck which is much nicer

Five of us went for the lunch buffet today. The service was very good, staff very friendly and food was of very high standard, as usual. we will definitely be going again in the near future.

Poor attitude, unwelcoming, need lessons in how to treat customers. We went with friends who had been previously and reported that it was very good. There was barely enough food for the four of us, very small protions cosidering what we spent. Jasmine tea was little more than a pot of hot water and a couple of leaves. Definitely disappointed and will not return.

Our second visit in three weeks but unfortunately this one was exceedingly average. The most notable disappointment was the dish which was passed-off as Sweet & Sour pork. It had all the texture of crispy “shredded” beef with chilli (flakes) and compared side by side, the difference was negligible. Quite by accident we then discovered that the Kung Po king prawns and the Sweet & Sour prawns were also almost identical, save for the chilli flakes and water chestnuts in the former. Good prawns don’t need to be covered in a thick batter. Mongolian lamb and crispy duck were pleasant but little else to write home about. Service was kind, and the dining room is pleasant but our next visit won’t be for a while.

We ordered a takeaway and it was very good except for the mixed vegetables and noodles. The noodles were supplied separately and were dry and hard. Very strange and not very nice.

I have been to Kongs as my chosen Chinese for over 15 years and they have been so lovely almost every time. I had just gone in with my partner to get food and the new staff they have taken on were so disrespectful and rude making me feel so unwelcome and unwanted. WIll not be going back there unfortunately. I asked for a table for two and they said “no, takeaway” and I asked if they were fully booked all night and they said “takeaway only” when there were 4 tables booked for the night on the list and there were easily 5 tables free. I completely understood they were fully booked and said ”okay let’s have a takeaway” and then I went to grab a menu to double check and they said ”no, that’s for the restaurant only” and gave me absolutely no help on top of being so rude and one worded with an awful tone. It’s so sad that I have supported this place for so long to finally feel as though I am unable to walk through the door anymore.
