Kolamba Sri Lankan Restaurant Soho in City of London, Westminster

My friends and I went to this gorgeous restaurant last night for a triple birthday celebration and we had the most wonderful time. Not only is the food incredible but our waiter was amazing and gave us great service and birthday treats! Thank you for a wonderful evening :-)

Love the food every single time. The chatti roast is the best. Monkfish curry was ok, could be better.

Great restaurant for my 60th Birthday! Location is brilliant! A few things to bear in mind: Food is very spicy. I had the lamb curry which is way too spicy and the meat content was minimal. My Dad had the King Prawns in Sweet’n Sour…..prefer if this option was with S&S. This place is expensive, but bear in mind its dining in London W1, so high costs are expected! On the whole a nice experience.

Second time dining at Kolamba, and even though the food was absolutely delicious, the portion sizes are ridiculous for the price. As a Sri Lankan, we’re known for our hospitality and generosity when it comes to feeding people…and these minuscule portions are so disappointing. I took my cousins and son out to dine, spent over £170 (no alcohol, just one juice each, a couple of starters, and several main dishes) and we were hungry afterwards! Even the lunu miris that came with the hopper portion was thimble-sized. Such a shame. And truthfully, knowing the cost of ingredients to make these dishes, there’s no excuse not to provide proper Lankan-sized portions! Again - taste, atmosphere and service are all super - but value for money is terrible :(

We celebrated my bdays here. Team was very polite, friendly. We were surprised by bday cake. Which was really nice ! Thank you ! Food was delicious but portions bit small. Overall we enjoyed.

I suggest others to save their time and don't bother trying to book a table if you're trying to book for more than 5. I've been trying to book a table for 7 or 8 people for the last three days, I sent an email but heard no reply and called the restaurant every single day to chase up but nobody replies. Waiters at the restaurant just say I have to wait for the reservation team to get back to me. Needless to say I haven't been able to try their food or even go there because of their lack of organisation and ability to reply to customers within a reasonable time.

The food is WOW! Highly recommend the pork, the lamb, the daal, and the coconut flatbread. Will definitely be back! Edit: Went for a 3rd time one year later... food is STILL fantastic. Well done. Only point of improvement: we were with a group of 8-9 people and the servers kept on putting the food all one one side of the table :D

What a delightful restaurant in Soho, the ambience was great, food is delicious and the staff are lovely. The egg hoppers are a must to try.

Visited for the first time on my birthday, couldn't fault it. Perfectly sized menu with excellent vege options. All the dishes were great - loved the dahl and egg Hopper! Highly recommended.

Food was not tasty, small portion, mediocre. The restaurant is famous but never invested in having calorie information for its menu. Just eat blindly without worrying about carb and fat intake because fitness is old-fashioned 🥴

Some really tasty food but I think the dishes were a little rushed somehow. The pumpkin wasn't cooked to be tender enough - the flavour was ok but I personally won't get this again. The beef was quite nice and the hopper with egg and other condiments we got were really tasty. Chai was delicious. I've had the mutton delivered before and that was amazing but because the food at the restaurant was only a bit average I can't rate the food any higher.

Food was lovely. Size of the dishes were very varied. They took a long time to take our order but food came v quickly. The order taking was a bit erratic. Tried to bring us rice we didn’t order, roti & okra arrived later than everything else. And a second lamb curry never arrived at all.

The food was excellent, as was the service. I would happily go back agian.

Awful experience, the woman that served me had an attitude. It was an unpleasant experience the woman’s service ruined the mood for me and I don’t think I’d be returning. Although the food is not amazing it’s okay but quite underwhelming and overpriced, pretty average food. I won’t be returning. 1/5

My first time here. Staff were proactive and attentive. The food was delicious and a great portion size. Really loved the Hot Buttered cuttlefish with the spicy chilli glaze. Will be dining here again shortly 😋

Great experience at the restaurant. We had the prefixed feast since it was our first time and everything was yummy! Especially the cuttlefish, beef, goat and the shrimp! The coconut jaggery flan was yummy as well!

I originally wanted to eat at the Indian restaurant next door, but then I came to this Sri Lankan restaurant. After eating it, I was glad that I decided to come here! Every dish is very good, and the seasoning method is a bit similar to Indian food, but I feel that the spices used should be different. The same ingredients (such as okra, lentils), their cooking methods are also very different from the seasonings that I would expect as a Taiwanese in an East Asian country, so I will be surprised when the taste in my head is very different from what I expected XD The store uses a lot of spices, but it still retains the taste of the food. , I accidentally ate it all in one bite after another! I have eaten a lot of Indian food, but this was my first time to try Sri Lankan food. I will want to come back next time! Here are the dishes we ordered: Dhal (parripu) Lentil Paste Okra Okra Ceylon Chicken Curry Sri Lankan Chicken Curry Pol Roti is a traditional flatbread Kiribath (the white ones) A ​​white dessert with a salty and sweet taste, which is made of rice and coconut milk.

From the moment we arrived we were reminded that our booking is for 1,5 hrs (which is fair). However, after an hour being there and while still eating, they told us that we need to leave the table in 10 mins. Dining at a restaurant is supposed to be an enjoyable and relaxed experience and not feeling they want to kick you out while eating.

I had been before and the food was amazing. Decided to bring my foodie friends last night. The food came really quickly. Unfortunately my chicken was cold in the middle so I had to return it. My friend had to do the same. All the food was warm not hot so after 5 minutes of eating it had gone cold. So dissatisfied as it came out quickly. The manager offered to replace all the food but we had already eaten most of it so declined. We weren't offered anything else complimentary. The flavours are amazing here. It makes such a difference when the food comes out hot.

We had a great time at Kolamba, and went with a friend well versed in Sri Lankan food. She ordered on our behalf, and we had the mutton, prawn, okra, and beetroot to share, along with some hoppers. We enjoyed it overall, and she said it was authentic, so it has to be! Abit on the pricier side, though!

What a delight! Delicious food, and the lady who served us was fantastic, super knowledgeable, and really helpful for allergies, she's ace!

The food and service were lovely, however we were unlucky enough to be sat in a dingy corner downstairs by a storage room and had staff bumping past our chairs every 5 minutes to get into the storage room. Probably shouldn’t have clients sitting there.

Very tasty menus. We have ordered the set menu which was around the 35£ bracket and it was overall a great combination and great experience. Staff was friendly and they have high chairs for kids.

Great food with a good spiciness to flavor ratio. A place with an atmosphere and... a smell that actually prepares your stomach for food. Definitely worth it!

We ate here with a voucher. The atmosphere was relaxing and quiet, we sat downstairs where it was not noisy or crammed. The food was absolutely delicious and healthy especially the dessert, it came almost immediately. The waiter was very helpful in suggesting and explaining us every dish and gave us useful recommendations. The cocktails didn’t have much alcohol (for us was good).

Food was tasty but portions are too small for the price. Very dark downstairs.

I had beetroot curry with rice - it wasn't usual curry at all (just beetroot, no sauce) and I wasn't expecting it that way but it was lovely. The staff were friendly, relaxing atmosphere.

Very nice atmosphere and a nice looking interior. Service was ok. Not bad not good. Some of the food was really nice, some not so much but I put that down to personal taste not the dish as all the food was decent quality and well presented. It gets a 3 because honestly, it was far too much money for what it was. Compared to other restaurants in the area, it just wasn’t good enough for the price.

Food excellent, authentic Sri Lankan flavours, although portion sizes were definitely not Sri Lankan, definitely on the small side. Growing up in a Sri Lankan family, I'm used to massive portions of food at all meals. Watlappam was amazing! Also, a bit on the expensive side, but given the location, I'm sure that's understandable. Long may you prosper. Sad that there was no Love Cake available.

An average place. The tables are far too small and I needed up burning myself and having our drinks knocked into our food as people tried to squeeze in. I was told there was no beef on the menu and then the first starter was... beef. The food was pretty average overall.

A huge thank you to the incredible team at Kolamba Soho for their kindness and support. They readily accepted my phone request to deliver a bouquet that I got for my son & fiancee as a surprise gift who were to have lunch there, last week. The staff went above and beyond to make the moment even more memorable for them and offered a free toast too. My son chose Kolamba for his occasion because they have great food that is beautifully presented and has a cozy, elegant atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone looking for amazing food, a welcoming environment, and a staff that truly cares.

Bit squashed but other than that a great experience

It is a shame, I forgot to take some pics of the food. Had the egg hoppers/ hoppers with fish. It was accompanied by caramelised onion and it brought back all my experiences back in Sri Lanka. The food was authentic and just so delicious. Highly recommend the place, the staff were extremely helpful Thank you for making our evening a great experience

Server was grumpy. Small potions. The hoppers came with just a tiny bit of “Linu Miris” (chili pieces with salt and lime). It costs nothing to give a larger portion. The food was flavorful, the restaurant was clean.

The food is so good. The portion a bit less but worth it. The taste of seenu sambal top and the hoppers really good. Would go again.

We really enjoyed our meal at Kolomba. Our only reservations are that the menu is quite overpriced - especially when you have Dishoom a few doors down - despite it not feeling like a very 'premium' restaurant. And the margaritas were too small! Three sips and you were done. The Monkfish was incredible though and the staff were very friendly.

Booked Kolamba for a birthday as a group of 6 and we had fantastic service throughout the night. We sampled almost everything on the menu and everyone enjoyed it all. Stand outs were the beef string hopper starter, fish curry main and lamb main. I wasn't a fan of the pol roti (but others were), and my spicy marg drink was not great... but all the food was flavourful and cooked very well. Only negative is the portion sizes, we ordered multiple of a lot of dishes as the portions were very small and prices are very high. But that's also accepting this is a central London location (and the drinks prices contribute a lot to this).

Yummiest Sri Lankan food in London. We've eaten in and taken away on many occasions. It is on the expensive side but it's so delicious Service is always friendly and helpful and they understand allergies. The chicken curry is exquisite. The mutton is also delicious.

Went here after going to Kolamba East near Liverpool Street Kolumba East has a better menu, more generous portions, better VFM and a better vibe Here ? £66 per head for starter, main course, side dish and bottled wine between three But what did I expect in the tourist central West End 🤷 No reflection on the staff who were excellent I will return to Kolumba East but not here

We recently visited this Sri Lankan restaurant, and while it was slightly overpriced, the food was still enjoyable. We opted for all vegan dishes, which had plenty of options to choose from. The vegetable dishes, however, were on the smaller side and didn’t quite wow us in terms of flavor. That said, the chai tea was amazing—definitely a highlight of the meal! The service was also lovely, making for a pleasant dining experience overall. Would recommend if you're in the area, but don't expect anything groundbreaking.

We accidentally found this restaurant and decided to give it a try, as we were really tired of searching on this noisy tourist street. We were quickly seated, the staff was very polite and helpful, and the atmosphere was calm and pleasant. The concept follows a sharing dish principle, which is mentioned in the menu. It's important to note that the portions are small, including the main courses. We ordered two main courses and two vegetarian dishes, along with rice. The food was very tasty and unique, with an authentic flavor. The only thing we didn't think of, and no one mentioned, was that some dishes are very very spicy, while others are simply spicy. We probably should have expected that, but it would have been helpful if it was indicated on the menu. The tip was included in the bill. For us, it was a positive experience; we tried something new, and the restaurant didn't disappoint. The dish I liked the most was the Dahl.

We were here more by chance. It looks interesting and inviting from the outside and we chose the lunch menu, one vegetarian and a white wine from South Africa. Good choice: very attentive service, good atmosphere and nice interior. Also upstairs is appealing and everything is delicious. Clear recommendation for anyone who would like to try something out or like Sri Lankan cuisine.

Food, vibe, service – all excellent!

The food was excellent, as was the service. The prices are steep, but in line with central London. The only recommendation I’d make is to extend the reservation windows to 2 hours versus 90 minutes. We had a table at 5.30pm until 7pm and we felt rushed at the end despite having spent a lot of money on 3 delicious courses.

We walked in with my boyfriend this weekend and what a gem we discovered. Such a cozy place with great and inviting atmosphere. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food just amazing, very tasty. My favourite was beetroot curry and dhal. String hoppers were very tasty too. Will definitely come back! Than you Kolamba for such a nice experience

One of the worst service experience. We were there on a Saturday morning around 11 am and we were stopped at the entrance to review the menu and then if we like it we were allowed to seat ( That was Rude). Once seated we ordered a few sides but not the main course and we were told they cannot just serve sides ( Makes no sense ). As a customer we prefer to order anything in your menu and expect you to deliver. If not , please do not have those items in your menu. Avoid this place , very very Rude people and food taste bad.

Delicious food and lovely people, the flavours reminded me of my back packing adventure around Sri Lanka 20 years ago! We had the set menu which was a great way to try lots of different things. Loved the beef and the beetroot curry in particular. The non alcoholic cocktails were really refreshing and delicious thankyou so much x

Fantastic vegan options, great quick service, and a really pleasant ambience! Most seating is in the basement, which lacks windows, but it is very quiet and doesn’t feel stuffy. The string hoppers and dahl were particularly delicious.

Never got to eat there, walked in, asked if a table for four was available, lady said not for today. Then we checked online and there were tables about an hour later and when I went back in to double check she said "don't argue with me". I didn't know why it showed tables online and then she said "yes, maybe at the bar" (which is still a table to me). Anyway didn't like her attitude and went somewhere else in Kingly Court which was very nice.

As a Tamil Sri Lankan, I am pleased to confirm this place is fantastic.

Hoppers are overpriced. A small hopper is £4.50. Other places sell a hopper for £1.25.

Loved our meal at Kolamba. Food was fantastic and a great intro to Sri Lankan cuisine. Nice and spicy but not crazy hot. Service and atmosphere were great. Would recommend booking as they had to turn quite a few people away. Extra tip... The blues bar next door is pretty cool as well!

The food here is absolutely delicious and authentic, making my first experience with Sri Lankan cuisine truly exceptional. The service was fantastic, and the outdoor seating created a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended if you’re looking to try something unique!

My Mum and I celebrated my birthday at Kolamba. The team were full of surprises, we had a glass of bubbles on arrival to kick off the celebration. As my mum wasn't familiar with the menu our server guided us through the dishes. The brunch was superb, bursting with flavour. They even gifted a birthday desert! What a lovely morning experience. Have been to Kolamba twice and were very satisfied both times. Service was nice, the food came very quickly and was very good. If you are looking for a Sri Lankan restaurant, this is the right place.

Delicious food, very good service. Will definitely return. We were downstairs- I would prefer upstairs next time if possible. One very slight comment is that the food could have been a touch warmer ( in temperature ) but we did not mention it at the time as it was borderline and wasn’t a big issue. Second visit and we all said we would return.
