Kokoro in Canterbury

It tastes good and even better if you get bored of having the same food...here the sweet chilli chicken tastes different every day. If you like standards and having the same tasting food every time, here it changes with the person that does it.

Absolutely disgusting food. Wasted nearly £7 on something which tasted like a bucket of seawater and it left me feeling ill after a few attempts to actually try an eat it without letting it go to waste until I decided to throw it away. Also the manager doesn't seem to treat her staff very nicely and was being nasty whilst interviewing what looked to be a job applicant in the middle of the shop floor!? Very unprofessional so do not waste your money on their fancy looking garbage. You can get the same thing by dipping a bucket into one of the sea-pools at Margate and seasoning it with whatever crap you find washed up on the beach.

Food was amazing when it originally opened, but has slowly but surely declined in food quality. The food just aint the same... and today is the last time i will be visiting there. Had bad food and cant be asked to take the chance with it anymore. The manager or someone really needs to look into what is going on, as food is just getting bad. Feel like I got a case of the shits coming on after my last meal today... and bought up a little bit on the way home. Just ate a bit then tossed it. This place used to be the only place in canterbury i would eat as the food was soo good and could trust i would be happy with it everytime... now i debate whether to get it atall. And now... well you lost a regular group of customers. Pls check whats happening. Your food used to be the best takeaway in town ... what happenened. Update. Food is good and staff are very friendly. My favourite meal being pumpkin katsu and fried rice. Occassionally the sweet and sour chicken is too tough, so dont tend to order it often.

Great value for decent portions... I loved the tofu and katsu curry sauce.

Kokoro is always a good choice for a bite to eat, but the Canterbury restaurant is lacking in some areas: General cleanliness is low, food marks on the table and food left on the floor for long periods of time. Full bins so rubbish left on tables. Poor seating options. Sometimes can be quite noisy and distracting, either due to customer base or employees. That said, the service and the food is always solid, so if you're hungry and not looking for anything too fancy, Kokoro is a very good option. (Vegan options are a little lacklustre right now too.)

I was hungry and had never been here before. But after having the Korean chilli chicken on egg fried rice, I felt satiated

Kokoro has become one of my go-to lunch spots for its consistently great food and welcoming atmosphere. Great Japanese food You get a choice of 3 different types of chicken 2 types of rice with peanut sauce or you can get a sushi instead with a drink ( HOT or COLD )

Had a horrible and very weird experience. I went in with another person and we both purchased food. They have a bathroom which has a sign that it's only for paying customers, which I was. Despite this, some one tried to force the door open while I was on the loo. First they pulled on the handle and kept janking it. When I said that it was in use, the pervert then started to unlock it from the outside while I was sat on the toilet, trying to expose me to everyone eating. Disgusting behaviour. I had been in there for about 30 seconds when this started, so it definitely can't be because I had been in there a long time. Really put off going back.

The food and staff were both lovely. Quick service.

If you buy large, you must be really hungry. Definitely will visit again.

SEVERE FOOD POISONING Had sweet chilli chicken and noodles. Was asked at the counter if I wanted it "heating up" which I thought was odd. I asked if it was hot and they said it was OK. Seeing as it should've been safe to eat and I was eating in I said it was fine. Anyways, 5 days of extreme illness and a day in hospital followed. Severe food poisoning related to bacteria from chicken. I hadn't had any other chicken all weekend. Currently writing to kokoro to explain what happened.

I used to like this place - it's hard to find relatively good Asian food outside big cities, and I lived in SE Asia many years. But food has been inconsistent; the rice soggy or chicken in the chili chicken overcooked. Or they leave the items to the very dregs before replacing them so you end up getting old stuff. While most of the staff is pleasant, the one manager is curt and officious to the point of making you feel you're annoying him. I'll now be spending my £10 elsewhere; an M&S Madras beef curry hits the spot or I'll cook myself!!!

Forgot all the soy sauce so no point in eating food that has no taste without it, forgot the edamame, forgot the soup and no refund ofc

Good salmon teriyaki, good sushi bentō. Presentation can be a little messy, and they don't always have everything available. More expensive than other food in the area - but sushi usually is. Update: They now stock an assortment of onigiri which I very much enjoyed.

Real Japanese food cooking, very good taste! Udon and rice from Japan, same taste in Japan.

I mean i ordered large and the amount of chicken the manager add for us very little for what we paying. Definitely with this service i won’t come back again until i get free meal or give my my meal with worth of the money i paid

The food is so buss. Chicken katsu curry was splendid. Spectacular. The sushi’s are good for their price. The regular hot meals are already very filling.

Visited today with family. Price and taste was ok, but not in super quality. Regular katsu curry had plenty of chicken which was a big plus on the other hand curry sauce was warm not hot enough. Biggest downside was cleanliness of the place. Everything is dirty here. Chairs, tables, walls.. All sticky. I had to wipe my chair and table before eating. As takeaway it is recommended. People serve you also nice and smiley. But for eat in not recommended.

First - client area. Plenty of places to sit and eat. The tables are dirty, the chairs look so dirty, I almost want to wash them before sitting down. Food. This is not my first time in Kokoro and I thought that the recipe was the same. The noodles were not like the Kokoro noodles that I have eaten at various places. The beef was too spicy, probably to hide the smell of not fresh meat that I noticed. Due to the wrong proportion of rice, all the sushi burst right in the box.

Go-to for sushi. Plenty of choice and if they don't have the one you want you can ask one to be made up for you. For the price, can't go wrong. A more local Japanese takeaway is much more expensive. Both are great so the better value wins out.

Went to KOKORO Canterbury. The service was standard but I was not given enough information to make a genuine order (I was told the options available but not that you can choose multiple toppings and bases in one order). I decided to have the Chicken Teriyaki. The rice was soggy and very bland, I did notice that it was made in a rice cooker so my guess is that it was sitting there for a while. The chicken teriyaki also tasted slightly undercooked (cooked enough to eat, not raw) and extremely sickly. I was surprised to see that none of the servers were wearing gloves, which makes it 100% not allergen safe. Compared to a similar buffet style serving experience at Subway or Tortilla, where the servers wear gloves and change them regularly

It was very good but quite pricey.. How I wish they do Blue Light Card, Senior Citizen or Student Discount x

Experienced genuine hospitality at its best. We took our three year old, not sure she would like anything, but you've got to try. Firstly the gentleman enquired about our choice as it could be too spicy for our daughter. Then when we sat down he brought over a pumpkin savoury for her to try. No need, but a lovely gesture, and by doing so he's got a family of loyal followers now. Please pass on our thanks. Such kindness shouldn't go unrecognized. 🤩

The food served in this place makes up for the state of the eating area. For of us regularly eat here for the chicken katsu, it beats Wagamamas 💓

Nice chicken katsu curry , good portion size. Couldn't eat the Gyoza as they tasted of cabbage as did the chilli chicken. Ok for take out as the seating area isn't great.

Nice place to have a miso soup with snacks on a rainy day. Great value for a nice price. Welcoming people.

By far, it was the worst place I've ever had the displeasure of eating in. The tables were sticky, they microwave everything, and the staff are incredibly rude. My order was cold in the middle and when I told them they just microwaved it again, I put my drink on the table and had to peel it back off the table because of how unsanitary the table was. There was also food all over the floor in the dining area. I hope the rats enjoy the food because I sure as hell didn't

Have been here many times and staff are always friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for fine dining this is not it, the decor is basic but the food is good and the portions are generous. My daughter and I had a sushi box each and it was fresh and delicious. We at in, and took home a hot rice pot of spicy pork and teriyaki chicken - the portion was huge and the lady serving us wrapped it in clingfilm, which was appreciated. Not sure why this place has gotten a bad rap but maybe they are old reviews. We can’t fault it.

I was skeptical from walking in but it's great food, generous portion sizes and packed with flavour! Reminds me of panda express style dining but this is even better.

Incredible value, tasty food. When there's a few delivery bikes outside, you know a place is popular because people want it in their homes. This is a great way to eat a lot for low cost AND have flavour, all outside of the standard pub and pizza places nearby.

Food was very average. Too much rice to topping. Katsu curry was so far away from the real thing. Distinctly below average, will not be going back !

This place has the BEST takeaway sushi by FAR, I’m a big fan of sushi and nowhere delivers great, fresh sushi like they do. I wouldn’t order sushi from anywhere else in Canterbury!

Delicious food!! Not a lot of seating but the Japanese food here is incredible! If you're craving some noodles or rice with beef bulgogi, sweet n sour or chilli chicken, tofu, and other toppings - this is ya spot! Big servings for the price. Lots of sushi available too 🤤

Chicken Katsu curry is good but sometimes the rice can be over cooked. Portion of size are very good, chicken are nicely done. I love the curry sauce 🤤 Chloe has a really good smile and she is very lovely

I got to the shop and there was no shushi. The girl at the checkout told me there was no more but the guy, Doyan I think his name is, prepared two sets of shushi for me. I was really grateful for the good service I received! Thank you very much

Our first choice of restaurant was full and we needed a quick bite to eat before a theatre show. There was a nice aroma when we walked in and it was fairly busy. The food didn’t look amazing, but we were running short of time to look somewhere else. We both had the sweet and sour chicken with rice. Meat was very greasy and was really bad quality, cheap scraps. I ate about two thirds and couldn’t bring myself to finish it. It’s not often I eat something thinking it might make me sick later, but that’s how bad it was. I actually told my mum to leave it as I could see she didn’t like it and she has a fairly delicate stomach so I was worried it might not agree with her. Turns out I was right and 6 hours later she has stomach pains. Never stepping foot in here again. Wish I had checked reviews first. Avoid at all costs!!

The food is good for what it is: nice and consistent chain food. And it's good that there are healthier options as well. Great place to get lunch! The staff is always friendly and helpful, they are the real MVPs, pulling the overall grade up.

Food is tasty! No denying that. But the staff needs to be retrained. I saw them sneeze and not wash their hands, then touch the rice. Touch raw elements with their bare hands, then serve customers without washing.. Incorrectly labelling cold food (i believe i had food poisoning from their dorayaki). Salmon in their sushi boxes is always bad (bad labelling again, it smelled very old).

I have been to Kokoro at least 5 times and I have always been impressed with the food and the service. The restaurant is located in a small, unassuming building on High Street, but the inside is bright and welcoming. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is always delicious. Kokoro specializes in Japanese cuisine, and the menu features a wide variety of dishes, including sushi, sashimi, tempura, and noodles. I have tried a variety of dishes, and I have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and flavorful, and the portions are generous.

Thought this would be a step up from Chopstix, but alas no. Just worked my way though a stodgy sweet and sour with noodles. Man, it was hard work. Virtually no vegtables, so no colour or crunch or variety. Not cheap either.

We went there on a sunny Monday, the place wasn't too busy, the food is really tasty, I had a regular rice with sweet chilli chicken, beef bulgogi and some chicken gyozas, they were absolutely delicious! Will definitely come back for more. 😊

Popped in for a quick bit of food before the theatre, the place itself was dirty, really should have walked away when we noticed as I was very ill by the time we got home which I can only put down to the food eaten here.

Kokoro is one one of my favourite places for lunch. The hot food is delicious and the portions are generous. The chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki are what I usually get.

The food here is amazing. The service is buffet style, and staff fill the tubs generously. I struggled to finish a large sweet and spicy chicken with rice. My wife's Chicken gyoza udon was also very good. There are sides available too, including sushi and dumplings etc. For eating in, there weren't many tables inside, so seating may be an issue during busy times and the queue does pass some of the tables which isn't ideal for personal space, but from a food perspective this place is bang on.

Ordered the sweet and sour chicken. Was like eating vinegar. Guess they forgot the sweet part lol. Was inedible and put in bin. Don’t waste time with this shop

Good prices, not very knowledgeable but smiling staff. Rather too much sodium glutamate in what we ordered. Rather tatty floor and utilitarian decor. Overall a pleasant alternative to a McDonald's or Greggs's, and affordable by contrast to most eateries in the High Street. Would go there again - once in a while.

I attempted (!!!!) to buy some takeaway sushi from here. I arrived at the opening time of 11am. The door was shut and the staff were making up the sushi boxes on the tables. When I asked if they were open I was told they weren’t opening until 12 as they weren’t ready!!!! They didn’t even ask what I wanted to order and try to help! Awful awful awful

Overall, the food is good and the staff although slightly undertrained and the facilities are neat and tidy but slightly dirty in places such as table tops. However, lots of the food tastes very bland and the drinks are quite odd. How stupid can you be to put ‘87% plant based’ on your water bottles? Overall though, Kokoro is a good choice of food.

Staff were super kind, supportive and made me feel very comfortable, food was delicious. You wouldn’t get this kind of service from a fast food chain. Would 100% eat there again

Food wasn't as great as it usually is, was edible but wasn't worth the money. Service wasn't great and one staff member in particular was rude. Food is usually good, has put me off coming back

Quick delivery time, and hearty shareable portions. The bowl could generously serve two. Only wish veggies didn’t have to be add on. Protein and carbs need some more generous Color and crunch. Or add your own at home. Good delivery/ take out option.

Unfortunately you can’t give zero stars. I’ve never had such tasteless sushi, the rice was soggy and stodgy with no seasoning at all - confident they didn’t follow any sushi rice recipe I’ve seen. The prawns were devoid of any flavour - all the sushi fillings tasted of the same watery nothingness. I wouldn’t waste any time or money going here.

The service was quick, the staff were nice and you get quite a good portion size. They had options for vegetarians like me and the udon was delicious!

A nice quick alternative to the likes of wagamama. Good size portions. Their curry tofu and avocado maki are great choices if you are vegan.

I used to go to Kokoro every Saturday. Today was the third time in a row, that their food was horrible. I remember how or was only a few months ago, and now you get half the meat, too much sauce that drowns rice and to be honest, there's something wrong with its taste too. I gave them three chances, for old times sake, but sadly I will stop going there.

Kokoro positively surprised me. I ordered takeout through deliveroo. The food arrived piping hot which was amazingggg. I had a Mix and Match of Spicy Pork, Sweet Chilli Chicken and Noodles. The food was super tasty, and in a large portion so I truly enjoyed the meal. It was very well packages such that there was no spillage. I'm definitely looking forward to ordering again or going to the restaurant physically😋 What a fantastic first experience

Service was fast and easy. Got rice and sweet and spicy chicken in a medium pot. Was filled over the brim so that there was as much food as physically possible. The food was delicious also and filled me up. The medium box is large enough for 1 person. For £7, the value was incredible. I am a big fan.

The chicken was shredded when chewed and made me gag multiple times apart from that it was horrible, don’t go here. Chewy hard food
