Koishii Restaurant in Plymouth

An overall great restaurant with fantastic food quality. As a sushi loving person their Sushi was the best sushi for me in this year. Also, customer service was marvellous the lady hall staff was really kind! Highly recommend for people who looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Plymouth.

First time trying this place. Ordered a delivery and it was so good. Food was delicious. I hope to come back again :)

Sushi was freshly made and beautifully presented. We asked for some changes to the Autumn set menu platter which they were happy to oblige as well as extra mayo. Excellent value and great food - thank you

Came here on a quiet Thursday night so the restaurant was pretty quiet but had a beautiful time. Me and my partner came and enjoyed a lovely meal with great affordable cocktails! (£6.35 or there abouts a drink) as well as a medium size bottle of sake and a few other drinks. We also had the ume sushi set and several sides and the whole meal came to £80. The service was amazing our waitress was India and she was attentive and made sure we were happy and ensured our night when smoothly. We arrived early due to being excited about the food and we were still made to feel comfortable and food and drinks all came out quickly and beautifully prepared. The food, the service and the drinks were all amazing! Tens across the board! Highly recommend!

When I walked in there was a green-haired girl with a large hat who greeted me at the door. She kept mumbling to herself unintelligibly, but either way, it was quite adorable. When we sat down, I wasn’t sure what to order, so I asked the girl what she recommended- her response was ‘Shrimp Fry’, so I went with that. Whilst waiting for our food, I noticed a cat walking through the restaurant. I reported it to one of the employees, but they said that the cat is there to clean up tables after customers have left. After some time of waiting, I got my food. It looked very to my liking- it’s as if the chef knew what I thought would make good shrimp fry! Not only did it look good, it also tasted amazing. Suddenly though, I felt a little dizzy and nauseous. One of the employees could see that, but she reassured me that I was fine, and that the sick feeling was only due to the radiation the ‘oven’ was letting off whilst heating (what kind of oven does that?). All in all, I loved the mysterious feeling this place gave off, yet how nice the food was. 11/10, would go again

The food is lovely, but I don't recommend eating there at all. The service was appalling. We ordered a sushi set to share for the starter, but after a while the waitress appeared with the mains! We asked where the sushi was and were told they'd had a lot of take away sushi orders, so ours would be a while! We were halfway through the mains when the sushi arrived. It was a while before we were asked if we wanted desserts, which were lovely, but again took quite a while. We wanted coffees, but again waited a long time for someone to come, then a very long time before the coffee arrived. There was only one other table occupied, so being busy was not an issue, but they were obviously busy with takeaway orders. Surely, if you have a restaurant, the customers eating in it should take priority and, if not, close down the restaurant and concentrate on the takeaway. We won't be returning.

Incredibly bland and lacking flavour. Everything tasted the same. There are much better Japnanese restaurants in Plymouth with higher quality sushi for around the same price.

First time here, but a lovely quiet local Japanese restaurant with a great menu choice and reasonably priced.

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. Ive had amazing service in the past, but I booked a table over the phone, and when I went to the reataurant at the time I booked, it was closed, despite being within opening hours. I was given no warning that my booking was cancelled

I’ve tried so much ramen over the years and I found a hidden gem this restaurant makes the best ramen I’ve ever had. It tastes like they char grill the chicken and leaves a heavenly crispy skin with juicy chicken. Plus the sushi is out of this world definitely worth a visit!

In terms of food, one word difference, called Zuo Ramen, something else. Eating ramen is like Chinese noodle soup

Good quality Japanese restaurant, real teriyaki sauce(from Asian opinion), all waitress and chef is quite nice but the waiter(who wear glass) is really bad manner, he threw a bill to me for paying.

Meh. Sushi was made from frozen tuna. They can't pronounce the names of their dishes. They deep fry gyōza. And pronounce it guy - oza. Their menu instead of kimchi has kimuchi and their waiting staff pronounce it as koomoochee. Hilarious. Anyway, the food was uninspired, but edible and one might even say tasty, so it's not all bad. The textures were quite mushy and microwaved-like, though. But yeah, edible. Not for these prices, though. I will go there again solely because it's in a convenient location. Before there were actual Asian people in this venue, now the only Asian we've seen was the driver. And I think it shows. There's lack of understanding of Japanese cuisine, the variety, the freshness... It's all quite sad, mushy and disappointing. Sad, as I was really happy with their quality before.

It's not every day you come across a place so poor in food quality and complete lack of service as this. Virtually no contact with the waitress who was new and inexperienced, but left us with dirty plates for too long, inexcusable was the man handling of our our food. The air conditioning in the restaurant was on far too low and we were all cold. The toilet route was dark and sticky underfoot. They were gross and poorly lit. As for the food - the tempura batter was thick and stodgy with very overcooked vegetables. With the exception of the Udon Katsu stir fry, all the dishes seemed to be lacking in any excitement. The place was empty and we should have enjoyed a good meal with good service. We love Japanese food but cannot recommend this place at all. Just felt unwanted in our custom. Yes we should have complained but we just wanted to leave. Getting the bill wasn't easy and took us to flag the chef down despite only 3 other customers.

We had very good service here and enjoyed the food immensely. I had a vegetarian tempura bento box, which was plenty of food for me, my husband had the vegetable tempura udon bowl (delicious, with a spicy broth), and we shared edamame and wakame salad. So good! We'll definitely come back. I thought that pricing was very reasonable as well, and the young woman who was our principal server was very good, as was the young man also serving. I really do recommend Koishii

There was only one Server tonight and she did a fantastic job! Food was very tasty. Very nice restaurant. Only negative was the smoke\steam coming out of the kitchen.

My friends and I frequent Newtopia cydery often and this place is the best!! I was super hungry tonight and it appeared they had sold out of their main menu they were so popular. One of the guys who runs the koishii tent at Newtopia gave us some free fries on the house, knowing I was hungry. It was a really nice gesture!! I offered to pay and they said it was on the house since were always here. Smart and great customer service! My 8 friends and I will always buy some bomb Asian fusion burgers from them!!

Very nice restaurant. Nice vibe with the music playing in the background. The food was lovely with good portion sizes. I had a chicken katsu curry and the spicy tuna tempura sushi. Will definitely be eating here again

My best friend and I shared a meal at this restaurant last night and have both been violently sick with confirmed food poisoning. Other than some popcorn at the cinema this sushi was all we ate yesterday. Disappointing as we read the reviews and all looked well but doctors have confirmed it is indeed food poisoning. And worth a mention that whilst moving plates around on our table the server picked up our wasabi with his fingers and then put it on another plate so he could take the other one away… I didn’t think it was normal for waiters to finger your food you’re eating, after we just watched him clear a table…

A quiet Sunday and an unexpected date! Called ahead to ask a few questions which were answered politely. We sat in a lovely booth, the waitress was attentive and speedy with service! The food was amazing and so fresh! We will definitely be returning!

When your craving Asian food, Koishii can satisfy….

So my partner and I visited today for our date and found the restaurant incredibly welcoming. The staff were super friendly and the food was incredibly delicious… Thank you so much everyone for the experience, from all the front of house staff back of house; whom all did an amazing job! We’ll definitely be back!

Quite ambience perfect for dating with food cravings..

30 minutes for a drink, a meal for 6 which came out in parts so nobody ate together, got 2 dishes wrong and one person didn't get their meal. Food was good but service let it down big time.

The experience was very disappointing: the waitress who served us was very impatient and dismissive; the food itself was unauthentic and bland; and they even forgot to bring us one of our main dishes. Overall, I definitely wouldn’t recommend eating here.

We visited in November 2022 for a dine-in meal. Having pre booked a table we arrived and received a friendly greeting, shown to a nice table by the window. Table was semi-traditional, quite low and bench style seating. Menus were brought over and we had a peruse through the vast choices. The drinks menu was also extensive and inexpensive, with a small glass of red wine starting from £3.95. We opted for Japanese Plum wine at £6.95 a glass - small but potent! Our server returned and took our order. Had to check with the kitchen a couple of times when we had questions about the food. Complimentary miso soup was brought over which was delicious. We then waited around 15 minutes and 2 portions of gyozas were brought out. However, we had only ordered 1 portion to share but the server had thought we wanted 5 portions of gyozas (5 per portion) - we would have ended up with 25 gyozas! We sent the extras back... Then another 15 minutes passed and my partner's sushi roll was brought out. Well constructed and delicious I'm told. But I had ordered a katsu curry, and this took a further 20 minutes to arrive. We asked for a tap water and this was taken to another table Whilst delicious food, the lack of organisation and the meals all coming out with significant delays rather than together was detrimental to the evening. We received an apology as we paid for 'how hectic' it had been, but there were no more than 5 tables dining (less than a quarter full) so I don't know how they would cope if they were really busy! To sum up 5 star food but unfortunately a 3 star experience

Had dinner here last night as a party of four and all I can really say is "Fantastic!" The setting is really nice, the food is amazing, the customer service was first class and prices were value for money. As much as I'd have normally dropped a star for so much missing from the Sweet menu, everything else mega made up for it.

Atmosphere was awful! Walked in to enjoy the food and a lady behind the sushi bar just started yelling and fighting with the sushi chef calling him stupid and not letting it go. I waited so long for the food because of the non stop bickering. Such a pity! Looked like such a nice place. Can’t say I’ll go back.

Big fan of Japanese food, and most places offer good imitations of Japanese cuisine. But Koishii is genuine, authentic Japanese. Perfect.

Outstanding service , ambience, sushi are amazing and outstanding!!! We’ve been coming here for years. This is the best Japanese restaurant in Plymouth. Specially the sushi man today was so patiently explaining all of my questions about the sushi menu!!! Definitely keep coming back again!

Me and my partner came here to celebrate our anniversary and were very pleased with our experience. The members of staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was lovely. As well as this, the food is definitely worth every penny, we've both never had such good tasting sushi before (the complimentary miso soup was also very tasty!). I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's a fan of eating sushi, we will definitely be coming here again in the near future!

Ordered set meal for four. Most of them were ok except the fried rice and yaki soba which were too greasy and plain.

Wow the food and service were both excellent. Friendly crew and the food was so fresh and delicious. Amazing night had for my 40th.

Been here a couple times in the last few years. Been going more often recently. Food has always been consitently good, and service has been nice even at odd times of the day. Also good vegan/vegitarian options!

The worst place I have been in Plymouth. We went there for lunch time, it was filthy - not cleaned from the night before. Miso was incredibly salty and unedible. And we found a hair in one of the dishes. I highly recommend not to go there.

To start of with this place had been recommended to me by a friend, who said he loved the place and preferred it to that of yo sushi which is in the same area. From first impressions it was eerily quiet and the appearance seemed almost rundown. After walking in we get welcomed with a sweaty kitchen worker however, she was very pleasant and looked happy to help with anything. Sitting down, I opened the menu to reveal a catalogue of choices (a lot). Being someone who is new to Japanese cuisine I found this quite overwhelming and would prefer to see less choice with more detail about them, also giving the kitchen staff more time to focus on specialist meals. Next I was greeted by a kind waiter, who took our order to which I choose their Chicken Katsu Curry (from the lunch menu). He collected our menus with a friendly smile on his face. We then waited around 7 minutes before receiving a Miso Soup. The food was average. Although the portion sizes were large which was nice to fill my fat belly. The flavor was applicable but I felt it lacked in quality, the chicken being fatty and the miso soup tasting like the breath of my girlfriends old tyme bulldog. Overall this place had nice staff but was brought down by the lack of quality in the food and unclean furnishing.

Fantastic food. Went with a table of 8 for a friends birthday, had a few issues with the food coming out but the owner was amazing and gave us a discount on the sake and the food that was delayed. Hands down the best sushi we’ve had in Plymouth!! 5/5!

Really good value for the amount you get, and all of the food we ordered was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Have used delivery service before with hardly any problems. Last Saturday phoned for delivery, was told it would take an hour, so waited patiently. After one and a half hours, phoned again, told it would be ready soon and when I asked why, was told, rather rudely, if I wanted it quicker I should go to KFC.

This is a disgrace! We ordered on their website online and we had to wait nearly over 2 hours for our food. We called the restaurant to ask where our food was the first time. They said it would take a couple of minutes. Then we waited around for another 30 minutes. So then we decided to call up again to check on our food. Then the lady on the phone said they did not do online ordering. Then she rudely hung up on me. When the food finally came 10-15 minutes later. The food that was supposed to be warm came cold!! I am dearly disappointed. I will not order from here again.

I've come on several times with my dad and the service was efficient and the food was always fresh. My favourite dish is salmon teriyaki ramen soup. Very warming in a cold day plus you can choose your spice level from mild to spicy. Lots of choices for vegetarians and Vegans too. Highly recommend

Really delicious and great value for money, considering the type of dishes. Had one of the sushi sets and was definitely enough for 2 people. Others had the set meal for two and depending how much you eat it was definitely too much food if anything! They ended up taking the leftovers home with them. Definitely recommend!

If you're looking for the best sushi restaurant in Plymouth, this is the place to come. Not only is the quality exceptional, but the service is excellent. Simply, it's a part of Asia made available at your doorstep. The possibility of ordering online to be delivered to your home thanks to Deliveroo only adds positive things. The room is beautifully decorated and the dishes can vary from your favorite sushi boat to a nice bowl of noodles or miso soup. Everything screams quality and authenticity. I keep discovering good things at this restaurant, and if there's one place to eat Asian, it's Koishii.

Extremely poor service, below average sushi and bad value for money. The waiter was new, had had no previous training on the menu, the supervisor nor the owner came near us to check if everything was ok despite the waiter having to run back and forth to ask questions. The sushi was mostly rice not much content, so much so it kept falling apart. The crispy tuna rolls were very disappointing so before we ordered the soft shell crab I made the point of asking was it big bits of crab coming out of the rolls in tempura. We were told by the supervisor that it was (by this time I'd given up on the new guy and sent him to get someone who knew the menu) we were told yes. It was not! To be point blank lied and to be paying £10 for 8 pieces of which in some you couldn't even see the crab! I normally dont write reviews but this place is a rip off. We were the only table there and we constantly has to raise our voices and wave to get their attention. Just shocking. This place will be out of business soon enough.

We went to this restaurant as a family of 4 and really enjoyed our meal. I had the katsu chicken ramen noodle soup which was exceptionally good. The chicken tasted very nice. Everyone else really enjoyed their sushi. The waiters and waitress were very friendly and welcoming during our stay. Would highly recommend eating here. Many Thanks

Not Japanese! No authenticity, just a mumbo jumbo mess of bits and pieces from a clearly untrained kitchen. Tempura was not proper batter, more like breadcrumb. Despite asking a "chef" if the Soba noodles were proper buckwheat ones and him stating yes they are Japanese ones, still came out as bog standard packet style noodles. No real quality like you expect from real Asian food. The setting is ok but not great.

First time in 50 plus years I've eaten Japanese food, if this restaurant is anything to go by I'm hooked. Service was impeccable, food was delicious and both my kids and wife left very happy. Vegetarian food available, the set meal for two was eaten by myself and my wife, we both loved it. We'll be visiting again! [edit] Returned Wednesday 26th September, must of been ravenous the last time I visited because we struggled to eat all the set vegetarian meal, it just keeps coming! The guy who served us deserves a special mention. I didn’t get his name but he was attentive and recommended a few things to us. Again a pleasant experience and like I said it’s a must visit in Plymouth. Top marks to all who work there! See you again!
