Kobeda Palace in Reading

I met a lovely taxi driver not too long ago from Afghanistan and we talked about going down lovely Oxford road to sample Afghan food. I cant unfortunately partake in the food due to slimming world but I’m reliably informed that quabily lamb shank is a sheer delight. The people I have met from Afghanistan are lovely. I feel very lucky that we have Afghan people with us and I am happy I have got to meet some people from Afghanistan. The lovely lady here is from Kabul. I’ve heard a lot about Kabul through different things but I’d love to actually go and see the place for myself but I can’t do that due to a fear of flying. This is a very happy restaurant with lots of laughter. Very nice decor. Nice purple flower mural on the wall. In short definitely recommend.not sure if I spell this right but tasha core.

The mix grill platter with rice was very nice. I would also recommend Chapali kabab and Kobeda kabab. Good value for money too. Friendly and helpful service. Good place for a family meal.

I'm in my mid-sixties and when I was a child and a teenager my father used to take me and my sister to many expensive restaurants and hotels in London and charged it to his company! ('business clients'). I think I must have been the only child in my (state) school who knew what Lobster Thermidor and Crepe Suzette was! (Perhaps they thought I was lying). In my humble opinion this restaurant ( for its type) is absolutely outstanding. Some of the takeaway dishes are fantastic value for money (eg. leg of lamb with rice, sultanas etc.). If you like this sort of food you will not be disappointed!

Good service and friendly staff. Food on point all the time. Last time I ordered the delivery driver even waited for me outside my house as I was out on way home. Don't see that nowadays. Keep up the good work!

My favourite afghan place, I always come here. I love the kabuli pilou and charsi chicken karahi. The staff are so nice Im definitely a regular here.

I was very disappointed to get home and not receive salad with my food. I phoned them & apparently they ran out of salad which I thought was bad organisation from them. This is not the first time there has been a mistake & they don’t seem very interested in resolving the issue. I won’t be returning to this restaurant.

Took my family out on saturday to try it out. Was a fantastic experience all round. Service was brilliant especially from our server Tasmiya. Although it was our first time eating there she explained the menu and gave recommendations which we thouroughly enjoyed. Food was outstanding, ordered kobedas, chicken tikka and lamb chops. Hope to eat here again soon! Recommend coming here for both families and groups of friends!

Cleanliness is not so much, but kobeda tasted nice. Although I am not sure if the quality of the oil used was good. It was expensive compared to Chiswick. At Chiswick, kobeda on its own is £4.50 but here it was £6. I will not go again.

Not a great place to have food, lamb charsi Karahi was smelly, not cooked properly and same was with the lamb shank in kabli plaio Used to be good, but now the service is worst, have to asked for plates, knives and only give plastic glass to drink, which are rubbish. Low level service with smelly food, I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The next door similar shop have little better food and good service. When complaint about the charsi karahi I was told they will replace this with chicken, then what you get is 1/4 not the same amount you have ordered, which I left for them to eat, complete waste of money yesterday and embarrassment with family. Not much people eating, they must have the old meat or leftover from yesterday. I was told that this is what the Afghan food is, we are going to taste of Pakistan in Hounslow since 2014, they have much much better taste and food, but you have to book the table 1st on weekend. Save your money and avoid this place, although just in front of masjid but not recommended at all.

Had a family meal, thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was good with personal attention. Good value for money, freshly cooked meal came out piping hot. Very authentic Afghani food. Highly recommend it to eat in the restaurant.

It is an iraqi and Afghan Darri mix cuisine restaurant, you can get kurdish dishes to Afghan Dishes, seating environment is ok and service is very quick

One of the better kebabs out there!

I was served mouldy bread with my kebab which I didn't discover until I had eaten some of the meat. I mentioned this to a member of staff who looked at me as if it was my fault. He reluctantly offered to put the remaining meat onto another piece of bread but to be honest I was put off at this point and didn't really feel like eating the rest. Had the staff member been a little more polite, I may have considered it. It's a shame as this place was spot on a few years ago. New owners perhaps.

Good quality, great value food. The portions are far larger than I expected and the lamb is really soft. Definitely somewhere I would recommend and will return to.

Authentic Afghan and Mediterranean food.

Average really. Nothing special. Plastic cups used not even glasses. Dishes left on tables for a long period after customers have left. Very watery Mango lassi. More a home order type business. Chapli kebabs felt rare than usual. Won't be going back.

Hung up the phone on me when I was trying to track an elderly man with dementia who was sitting at their restaurant.

It’s another halal Afghan food in Reading. We had lamb shank qabili pilau, grilled fish and lamb karahi. Food… was okay. Staff were nice but difficult to smile 🤭 the location is opposite the mosque, so very convenient for Muslims.

Not great and definatley not value for money. I will never go there again

Nope .. the area is the worst at reading.. It's crowded and not a good place to visit.

All the way travelled from Glasgow to reading had a most wonderful Karahi and everything was superb highly recommend ✌️

After 4 years visited the restaurant again and was disappointed. Food quality dropped. All grills were not well done. The chops were very greasy. Kebab was below average. Chicken karahi was OK. The worst thing was the very slow service. It took us more than 20 minutes to have our order which is not typical for such orders.

Quality of food and cleanliness not met my expectations when compared to similar places on the same road. The 1 star is for the nice host only.

Always I prefer Single kobeda with nan very delicious and I think it's enough for 1 person meal

This place has gone downhill, the meat in the kabli pulao was hard and overcooked, completely opposite of what it shows be..not sure if they are storing meat for longer or the owners have changed.

Great service as always. It’s always nice to try different foods from different cultures and it was amazing. My family loves when we order lunch or dinner from them.

This place has gone down hill seems like the owners have changed from post covid. The portions have decreased in size massively and the no real customer satisfaction. They have a cash machine in the restaurant now and push you to withdraw cash instead of paying on card.

Food v taste less,chicken and lamb karahi already cooked in same masala,bbq v burn ,sitting area not worm,1 waitress serving all of them,not good for family and couples orderly aswell...sad

Ordered Chapli kababs...were made from flour mostly than meat (mince). Never again!

Worst place to eat no cleaning no good staff

Good was quite good. Service was virtually non existing. Had to get up from my seat to ask about items we ordered that didn't arrive on time. Being winter (end of January) it was very cold inside the restaurant. Even the guys cooking in the back were wearing overcoats. Staff didn't seem to be bothered. It just looked like they just turned up for work but wanted to be somewhere else.

NOT HAPPY! Absolutely appalling service today took my guests for dinner. No heating, naan and curry came before starters everything was warm not piping hot!! We had lots of cold food left over Avoid Charsi Karahi because it’s meat on sauce! The lady at the counter is soo rude! They made us go and get cash to pay the bill

We are frequent diners here. Just love the food here. Even my kids enjoyed eating here.

My favourite restaurant in Reading. Chicken al faham with rice and kawa tea with almonds , great combo

had their chapli kebab w naan and biryani firstly biryani was such a big portion i was shocked taste was really good but the flavour could improve however it was great, would order again. The chapli kebab was on a whole other level my absolute favourite it was so tasty and I've never tasted one like it. Def recommend 100%

Had couple takeaway kebab as before they were pretty good, but eat in yesterday for the first time, rice was pretty much cold and bland, all the meat was average, the lamb chops were tough and bland, not that great at all.

Second time my family and I have visited this restaurant, both time we have had food poisoning. We visited yesterday and all 3 of us are suffering with S&D today. Oh & the plastic cups are a joke.

Decent food and good service too. Maybe the ambience or the interiors could be improved. The food was fair for the price. Tried the mango lassi which was nice. The afghan tandoori grill had good variety kebabs and was sufficient for two to three people. The rice was kinda bland.

Menu is simple but tasty and effective. Portion and price is competitive compared to other local restaurants. Dishes are authentic. Service is efficient and friendly.

Amazing food. Fresh salad, fresh humous, beautiful fresh naan. Kobeda and chicken tikka beautifully cooked. Their rice is the best I've had anywhere. The waitress table service is always friendly and attentive. Lots of food for a reasonable price. Very much a regular stop off for an eat-once-in-the-day only meal. Perfect ✌🏻👍🏻🤤

Stopped by after seeing good reviews and I thought it was great. Not gourmet dining but it's freshly cooked to a good standard and shows of kebab style cooking.

They clearly don't know how to make karahi at all. Came from Oxford to Reading to collect the food but these guys disappointed me with their zero knowledge of how to make lamb karahi. At least Google it or YouTube it to find the way. Avoid it if you are looking for a good karahi taste

Best Kobeda kebabs in town and very economical

Good dinning experience at this Afghan restaurant. Tasted a variety of foods including mixed grill, grilled fish, chicken burger, biryani chicken & biryani meat. The portions are large so most of the orders are enough for two. There is plenty of dinning room inside, albeit a little old. The service was acceptable and did not take more than 15 minutes. Food was well cooked. Price was reasonable for the quantity of food you get. Recommended for family & grilled Halal food.

Nice and easy reach Good place to sit and eat some kebab 🍢 afghan food

I was in town for some asian food so decided to give this place a go. The service was good however the food was below average compared to other Afghani places I have eaten in London. The charsi karhai did not taste fresh and was not property cooked and the chapli kebabs were over fried. Cleanliness was an issue as well and because of this reason I would not recommend this place to anyone.

CHARSI karhai was mutton curry. Meat was with fat not cleaned. Pathetic taste. Services were good. Grilled chicken was dry. Only rice and roti was good. Had tried kobeda before but not charsi karhai from here. Highly not recommeded if you are a karhai lover

Kariah lamb didn’t taste great and Kabuli pilau was dry and brought out in 2mins it didn’t taste nice. I love Afghani restaurant. Need to cook it fresh I wouldn’t go back here again

Me and my family got food poisoning after eating here. Do not come here no matter what. The food is not fresh, they literally re-heat the same old food they serve to customer’s a year earlier.

Best lamb curry in Reading, though recently they changed recipe and not quite as it was before.

Decent one 👌 quantity is good and quality can be improved. We tried lamb biryani (2 out of 5) and chicken kebab (3 out of 5). Overall mangable restaurant in Reading.

The food was OKish. The inside decor is run down and off putting with the toilets next to the seating area. Customer service was OK. I wouldn't be going back again.

First visit, ate in, not disappointed. A fairly narrow menu but very well cooked and very tasty. Highly recommend the Charsi Karahi dishes and the chapli kebab.

My first delve into Afgan food. It was an amazingly delicious experience. Succulent meats, and the charsi karahi was out of this world! Won't be long before I'm back here again!

We always order to take away, personally I ve never try meat because I m vegetarian, but all my family love their lamb curry or grill. The place is normal and clean. Ready aurante is big and waiters are kind. Their salad is really taste, simple but really taste. Portion are abundant. Not to expensive.

Simply the best afghani restaurant in Reading

The food was really tasty and and the customer service was very good and martina who was serving food was very friendly and when ever we visit she always smile and friendly

Excellent place for dinner and take away. My family and I have been their customer for about 7 years. They have always exceeded our expectations with food quality, authenticity and delivery times. Highly recommended.

Very Nice Food and Nice Seating for waiting

Rice was sooo oily for some reason. I think the new Eastern European lady manager has no good customer service, was very uptight and awkward being served by her. Lack of flavour in the sea bass. Also where we was seated was sooooo dusty !!

A place I travel to eat good food once a month. Reasonable price, quality and taste of food is on highest standard.

Waited longer than usual for my pre-ordered collection but I think this may be due to Ramadan. However!!!! I really enjoy the food here. I love the Quabli Lamb spicy rice dish cooked with large chunks of tender lamb on the bone and dressed with seasoned carrot ribbons & sultanas. I usually have this with Charsi Lamb Karahi and Bhindi. Their flagship cuisine Kobeda's are always fresh, juicy & tasty in the fluffy Naan. I've only had the grilled fish once each & they were good but not amazing. I will prob get the Sea Bass on my next visit and will do a dedicated review. The free salad that comes with all the dishes you order actually compliment the meals well and are always fresh. I usually just leave them when I get Indian takeaways e tc.

Great authentic Afghan joint. Big naan must try :) Karai, Qabli pualo and kobeda is recommended!

One of the best restaurant in Reading. Go for rice with lamb chunks and kebab with nan. Only negative side is that they offer and extra free of charge Salad that I wish they ask before serving. I Usually don’t touch and most likely go to waste.

This place is okay for those who has not tasted Asian food from long time or who don't know the Asian flavours. But I am not in that category, but still I visited twice to hve their Lamb Biryani. Biryani is full colourful n lots of aroma which would excite your taste buds which is true also but they don't follow standard and justice to take away folks. In take away, they will give you whatever they mess , when you say make spicy than they would simply add green chilli at the top of biryani which is senseless and lamb pecie will disappoint you. Dear Restaurant, take away folks also pay for the food than why so diffrence!!

Extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. Kobeda full of fat, kabuli palav meat smelling. Addressed the issues to the owner and he seems to know about those thing already. He smiled back, said sorry and walked away. Never, never and never again visiting this place.

Their chicken karahi is best. Sometimes the naan are burnt so we have to specify not to burn the naans. Staff lacks social skills at times but they are mostly accommodating.

This place has a change of management I guess, food is alot better then it used to be. Now the consistency is there which was lacking before.

Where food is everything. Generous, tasty and no distractions. If you go to be with someone who enjoys food as much as you its perfect. Take your own looroll though.
