Unfortunately there are very limited gluten free options here. Very disappointing for such a lovely place with such a varied menu. Only 1 cake from display cabinets full of them that was GF, but even then they wouldn't confirm no cross contamination. The waitress explained you could take your own GF bread, but why can't they by in GF bread? Also a very long wait time for a table.

We went with friends & we shared 11 of the tapas dishes between the 4 of us which was perfect. Every dish was beautifully presented & SO tasty. The choice of drinks was extensive & between us we had everything from Posh pops to flat white coffees, again all great. If I could be picky I’d say the cup of nachos was a little tricky to navigate out of the cup however when you did it was delicious. Amy was very professional & friendly. We’d highly recommend this Howden gem.

Amazing little Gem of a place! Fantastic food and vast selection and fantastic staff and service. You’re unable to book and due to popularity be prepared to queue but that’s no reflection on the venue…..it’s just so amazing that it’s busy but they don’t rush you out or anything. Keep up the great work! ❤️

We came to the kitchen on Wednesday and firstly we had to queue up which is fine but when we got up stairs after 25 mins of queuing there was 5 tables available(nobody came down in this time) we was seated and seconds later was asked what we wanted, this is hard to choose when the menus are on the wall and you have to. Loook over everyone’s table to decide what you want, food was good but however it was not clean in here, tea splatted on walls near where was sat, and dust everywhere (especially up on the fan and the wood pillers) definitely something you don’t want to see when coming into a food place, I really don’t understand the hype for this place and I will not be returning

For the food and customer service I would have given a good four stars, but the noise level was something else. For the lack of ambience, kitchen gets a three star from me. It was so loud, I had to concentrate on my husband speaking as people were shouting to make themselves heard over the loud music. This should have been soft background music - for that reason, we would not return.

Lovely service, welcoming staff seated us as soon as a table became available. My friend had some dietary requirements and the wait staff knew exactly which items to point her towards. I had the tandoori flatbread and it was so flavoursome, every bite had a different combination of flavours. The portion size is very generous too. My friend opted for a salad and it was enormous, packed full of extras that make a salad worth ordering. Again, full of flavour and variety. We opted to take away dessert as the food was so filling we wanted to wait a while. So we paid in the cafe area, the meal was reasonably priced considering the amount we had just eaten. We joined the queue for take away sweet treats and although it was reasonably long it was dispersed quickly and efficiently by the staff on the counter. The gentleman who served us was particularly polite and attentive to each customer, we were both very impressed with his customer service and the way he made us feel like we were being welcomed and valued. He asked us to give feedback on the lemon and raspberry cake we purchased and it was as expected delicious and flavoursome and once again a massive portion for the price. We got extra cakes for family who have all asked to visit as they enjoyed them so much. Maybe that was a bad idea as next time we'll have company and it'll no longer be a girly day. Thankyou to all the staff it really was a lovely place to have lunch and catch up with a friend.

Been here a few times before and has always been good. This visit was no exception. Unless you're very lucky expect to wait for a table to become available Once seated the waiting staff will ask you if you've been before. All the menus are on large boards around the restaurant, would prefer individual menus on the table rather than needing to wander looking at the various boards. I opted for a ploughman's board whilst my wife chose 3Tapas from the board. As the title of this review suggests the portions are very generous, if you don't go with a hearty appetite you have zero chance of finishing your meal. Take away boxes are available for your left overs. Prices are what you'd expect to pay for quality food served here. We will return for a special lunch again in the future

Lovely little place , I come here more than I used to and have grown fund of the staff here , they always just get on with the job and make an effort to know your waiting for a table rather than ignore you in the mile long que… And the lovely lady always greets me with a smile I presume she is the assistant manager with the brown hair, a very good woman to run the front of house . The waiting time for a table can take around 1 hour which is a very long time , I wish this could be quicker , maybe more staff or add some tables downstairs with a renovation but then again I suppose the chefs can only take soo many orders… The presentation is always 10/10 and certainly tastes as good as it looks , freshly cooked chicken , baked breads and cakes daily! Coffee is good but room for improvement, I would definitely recommend this place for lunch with a friend, Keep up with the hard work , it’s nice to have a place to go in Howden with actually good food, Thankyou for your service

Cute little cafe with very attentive staff. Ordered the full English breakfast. Was disappointed overall. It was served in a huge bowl which made it very difficult to eat. I nearly had to ask for a steak knife to cut my greasy mushroom. The toast was cut ridiculously thick and was basically bread with a very this tasted crust. This was also the first time I’ve ever had to carve scrambled eggs. Bacon and sausage were average at best. Best thing on the plate was the black pudding. All style and no substance. They have clearly concentrated on how thing look rather than how they taste.

Maybe the food is fine, but unfortunately I didn’t get to go. I was gifted some vouchers in summer 2022 to try the place and didn’t realise that they expire in 6 months. I telephoned the cafe hoping that they would offer to honour them as a good will gesture as they’ve had the money and it’s less than a year since they were bought. That would be good customer service, right? They’d have lost literally nothing. They could have even said they’d accept half the value due to inflation etc. However, I never got to ask. The woman on the phone was that “fake nice” people dealing with potential disputes get when they’re telling you something they know that they obviously get a lot of grief about, calling me “sweet pea” - I’m a 42 year old woman. Pretty condescending and I didn’t get chance to give any grief (not that I would have, I’m polite) because she hung up on me. Bad customer service, absolute con on gift voucher dates. Not a good experience at all and didn’t even manage to get through the door! Before I get a reply saying that they tell people about the quick date and that’s their policy - that’s not my feedback. They didn’t tell me because the vouchers were gifted to me by someone else. My feedback is that the period of time is too short and the woman on the phone was rude. That’s it. If you go there regular and you love it and never bought vouchers then good for you. All I’m saying is avoid the vouchers unless you can guarantee you’ll be using them in 6 months and also hope you never need to contact them from a customer service perspective because you may well be sorely disappointed by the attitude.

I’ve been going to the kitchen for a long time but you need to be prepared to queue. I went with my girlfriend last week, preparer to queue and waited for around an hour. Usually when we visit one of us will join the take away queue and buy cakes to take-away later (staff are always happy to store them behind the counter whilst we eat). I find it’s better to order cakes to take away as the portions are so massive we never have space for desert. As always the food was fantastic and good value considering the quality and quantity. This time we ordered from a new menu which was 6 items for £28.

Stopped here on our way home from our holiday. We opted for sandwiches and cake to take away and happily chose from the available selection. Beef and horseradish for me and chicken and mango for husband. We also chose to share a florentine (you will see why by the picture) and a latte each as well. Freshly made, we were soon on our way and tucking into our lunch. Yummy! My sandwich was huge and I only ate half and couldn't even manage the florentine...in fact I had the other half of my sandwich for my dinner and half the florentine. Always a treat to get things from here!

I have visited The Kitchen a few times now and i do travel from the far side of Leeds, as always the food is amazing but this time the wait was sooo long infact 1 hour to be seated and 40 mins to be served, i totally understand the place is sooo busy and the custom is huge but ,Surley if a booking service was made then people would not make waisted journeys and a guaranteed table could be allocated for their party, even a £20 non refunable deposit may work. Our party of 4 had a toddler with us (who infact after waiting so long was amazing) but i just think a different system may wirk better and help the 1-2 hour wait .

As a Howdener who has moved away, when back visiting my parents we always come here. The food is outstanding, fresh classics, good ingredients and all served in a nice environment. I had the smashed avocado breakfast which was awesome and then walked out with £20 worth of cakes to take back to Berkshire. The array of cakes and pastries is amazing and the fella working on the counter adds to the experience, he clearly enjoys interacting with his customers. I read some reviews here complaining about the prices; I think there’s a little ‘East Yorks insular thinking’ at work; you go to any city in UK and you’d pay more for the quality you get at the Kitchen. You want quality produce you pay a little premium, if you’re not prepared to do that……. We’ll Morrison’s do a great value breakfast that might be more to your liking!

Food Amazing, service okay but the big problem is they don't take bookings! In this climate I think it is absurd. You have to be prepared to queue for around an hour whatever the weather and in close proximity to other customers. By taking bookings and setting time limits on tables (1 and a half hours say?) these issues would be resolved.

Whilst the food was its usual outstanding standard, the approach to the new ‘norm’ by some staff was very disappointing. Instead of understanding that customers may be anxious about the current climate and explaining the necessary adaptations, they were rude and impatient because we didn’t just know the new ‘rules’ (eg reduced menu - all they had to do was tell us that when they showed us to our seat!) We will be back as the food is outstanding but the customer service from today’s visit left us completely perplexed. A real shame.

Weds 12th February - this was my first visit and my friend and I waited 45 minutes to be seated. She assured me that the food was worth the wait. She chose the blue burger and I had eggy bread with cheese and bacon. Both were delicious. No room for cake though! I bought a bottle of the beetroot and thyme dressing as I really enjoyed it on the side salad. Even though people were waiting, we didn't feel rushed at all but had to run in the end as the parking had expired. This is why, I think, a mix up over the bill occurred. I went to the till to pay and the server seemed unsure of our order, so I reminded her and told her I would pick up the dressing from the deli on my way out. I had not added up the bill and paid without checking. When I checked the bill the following day, I had been overcharged. I tried ringing but couldn't get a reply. I finally got through on the Friday and a lady took my number and said she would ask the manager to ring me.

Went here after recommendations from my good friends...I was not disappointed! Lovely interior and a great menu. I went for breakfast and ordered eggy bread with cheese, bacon and chutney. My friend ordered bacon sandwich. Both were very tasty and excellent value for money. The service is also ‘top notch’ here...all done with a cheery smile! When we were leaving I noticed the fantastic range of cakes so...next time we’re going for tea and cake, they looked amazing. Good value, tasty food with excellent service.

This was my first visit to the Kitchen in Howden (I normally visit the one in Snaith) I found the same quality food / variety however once seated upstairs I found it very crampt and VERY noisy. We struggled to hear what each other was saying. The tables were close together. Although the food we ordered was the usual yummy and freshly prepared the staff did seem to hurry us (the queue downstairs was long) however clearing our plates as soon as we'd eaten the last piece of lettuce was a lttle excessive. The best thing we found in the Howden shop was staff member "Geoff" he was so polite and knowledgable about all the deli / baked products. He even carried our purchases to the door for us. He is a trus asset to the shop (we need more Geoff's in shops)

Went for lunch. Very busy. Cannot book. Worth the wait. Wonderful selection of cakes and pies. Also does a take away sandwich service with excellent selection. Large portions but good prices. Will certainly return.

Second time here and did not disappoint! Just wish I had reviewed my Halloween coffee and rarebit which was excellent, being a welshman, rarebit has some way to be beaten but this place did it.

My wife myself and two friends had lunch at the Kitchen for an early Christmas treat. I had a Yorkshire breakfast, it was exceptional and cannot fault it in any way. The portions are generous and good value, the staff are very friendly and efficient. All in all a great place to visit!!

Still a lovely place to visit as from the first time I visited, EXCELLENT SERVICE, EXCELLENT FOOD. Be prepared to queue but that's what happens when you encounter GREATNESS, as it's what people deserve.

Really like it here, good food but need to keep an eye on their prices, particularly as you really have to eat at lunchtime, which feel should be cheaper than an evening! This seems to be an issue in Howden!

Loved the food luckily it is over 30 miles away because the food is so good my waistline would suffer. Lunch time means joining the queue as long as time is not a problem its well worth the wait

My husband and I, had an early lunch there today. We had a short wait to get a table, waitress came quickly to ask what drinks we would like, took our order promptly. We waited a long time for our lunch to be brought and noticed that a table of four who came in later than us were served their lunch before us.

Gob-smackingly amazing cakes for sale in the bakery shop which taste as good as they look and every one of them is twice the size you buy anywhere else but prices are so reasonable. The cafe offers freshly made delicious food and enormous portions, served up imaginatively ....for example a picnic for two served on a small picnic table which is placed on the table. We had scrambled eggs with smoked salmon .....must have been 6 eggs .....with huge amount of salmon. Yum. Huge queue though, but people were there expecting to wait because you can’t book. Go early for brunch/lunch.

Came in with our two grandchildren, the queue was backed up to the front door and we waited an hour for a table. We have been before so we know how popular the place is. The food was excellent as always as we shared a ‘picnic table’ which filled us to the brim. The kids menu has a great selection and even our picky grandkids found something they liked!

We went to the Kitchen for the first time on a friend's recommendation. We arrived at 11:30ish for lunchtime and waited around 20 minutes to be seated. I didn't mind this at all because we have heard such fantastic things about the food, so were happy to queue. We visited during half term so was possibly busier midweek than usual, but the queue was constantly moving (plus, it gave us the opportunity to check out the amazing cakes and pastries available on the takeaway counter!

I ordered afternoon tea for 13 people and a childrens picnic for two little bridesmaids for my daughters Bridal Shower that hosted at home . Geoff couldn't have been more helpful when I went in to order and the lovely young lady who served me when I collected the food was totally unfazed when I added some more food and calmly boxed up quiche and sausage rolls for me in the same way as the afternoon tea was presented

We have heard about this place for a little while but not had chance to go, we went early for lunch at about 11:45 and there was already a small queue we were waiting about 20 mins for a table which from what I have heard is good. It was clearly busy and they were turning tables quickly. It was a warm day so it was a bit warm in the upstairs seating area but we were served quickly and the food was good, really large portions of what appears to be really good food, ours was nice and everything we saw go past looked nice too. The cakes were massive and we have taken some home for tea.

We stopped in on a Tuesday late afternoon. There was only one table occupied so it was nice and quiet. We both had double scoop cones. There were loads of ice cream flavours to choose from. Yummy.

We booked into the lodges next to the Gardeners Inn and decided to walk around for dinner & drinks. The venue is decorated for Halloween which I did enjoy and we had a lovely welcome from the waitress. A few item were sold out but the menu was plentiful and the food did not disappoint. I had the sizzling hunters chicken and my partner had Korean Chicken. Portion size was fantastic the side salad & slaw was fresh, definitely the best hunters chicken I’ve had. Banoffee Pie & cream for dessert again it was better than any other I’ve tried. Lovely atmosphere, service time felt right for the number of tables eating and the price was reasonable. Would recommend 100%

First visit to this lovely little restaurant to celebrate 🍾 both Mother’s Day and my wife's 60th birthday and we were not disappointed! The setting in the window table with background music and plenty of space was perfect. We ate off the a la carte menu and we both had three courses complimented by a bottle of fizz. Each course was food heaven and the service was exceptional so we will be returning for the Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday in April. Thank you
