Only once before have I experienced such a terrible steak if I can put a picture up then I will. There was more fat and gristle than actual meat. My friend had a chilli and he said it had no “zing” to it and left most of it. Highly disappointed as I was recommended to this pub. Needless to say neither I nor my friend will frequent this place again. I have just read your reply and it’s not factual, I complained to your waiter and he said how about a round of drinks, ahh no thanks I said how about a refund to which, instead of saying I’ll speak to the manager said oh well you’ll have to speak to the manager. How can I upload a picture of this lamentable meal? Ok I found out and have uploaded. The photo shows what was left of a steak which I tried to chew but was impossible, really nasty. I have just re-read your reply which includes this snip, “As all avenues of rectifying the issue for you weren’t appropriate l (including a refund” and it is a total lie! Your waiter offered us drinks but as we were both driving we refused and asked for a refund that's when your waiter said you'll have to see the manager. We waited for the manager to come over but as we were very pushed for time we had to leave. I will keep adding to this review I am very surprised in view of the feedback you have from me (and my guest by proxy) that you haven’t reached out to me to offer a full refund or a meal for 2, everything comped but that just shows the complete disregard you have for your patrons.

Had an evening out with friends, and wanted to leave a review to praise the staff this evening for such great friendly service! Special thanks to Mary Ellen who greeted us with a beautiful smile and a welcoming positive vibe, serving us efficiently several times throughout the night, always happy & bubbly setting the tone for a really enjoyable time with good company 🫶🏼

Loved this pub, snooker table and dartboard

Was really looking forward to an Angus steak.When the food arrived half food was missing did not ask for salad got a pile of Salad.The meat was fatty and tough.Wouls not recommend. AND WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.

We had a family wake at the venue, staff really good and friendly, the platter that was placed on for friends and family was second to none, thank you very much, highly recommend.

One of the barmaids swore with the f word while we were getting our drinks, there were no appropriate glasses for what we ordered, the tiny bit of ice melted straight away so drink warm ....

I ordered the ribeye steak medium rare without peas came with peas and over cooked for my liking ordered dessert never got to try it because I wasn't happy and just left was the second place I'd visited that night the other place maypole farm served cold chips so sent everything back got a refund then came here so after eating the over cooked steak I just left because I couldn't be bothered kicking off wasn't in the best of moods and I know what your thinking why didn't I say something about the steak well I us3d to work in a kitchen I know what chefs are like when you send food back so just left it at that won't be going again

We visited for a Birthday Dinner. We had only booked on the day before and were able to get the time we asked for. We were seated a a large table in a section away from the other diners/patrons of the pub which was lovely. The food was 10/10 it completely took up by surprise and is by far the best pub food we have had in Bedford in a while! Wow. Please visit and see for yourselves, thank you.

Nice beer garden and outdoor seating, but let down by bad service and overpriced drinks and food..

Very slow service for just ok food. You are not warned when ordering that there is a wait & get no apology for the delay. If you have more that 4 in your party its doubtful you'll all get your food at the same time. Only youngsters running the place, no sign of anyone in charge. Fine if you're just drinking but wouldn't recommend for dining.

It's such a nice pub in the old cottage. 👌 Need to definitely come back to try more food. This time, we only try sharing plate combo which was ok.

For relatively cheap pub food it was amazing. Fresh and the service was exceptional. The only criticism is there were no healthy options to eat. The new decore is refreshing and bright. Family friendly. Would definitely eat here again.

The pub is lovely inside and out. The tvs are big and the environment is lovely so a great place to chill will a pint for match day. The food on the other hand was very disappointing. Had the super roast at 18.50 and the meat was terrible, a cheaper frozen Yorkshire pudding and the roast potatoes were a massive disappointment. Definitely do NOT recommend for food.

Was there Easter Sunday clean friendly and great food

Place looks lovely and staff were polite but food is awful it now operates like a weather spoons so they can’t make any fresh food and it’s all ordered in through a supplier, I asked for a burger without cheese as I’m lactose intolerant and had to wait 10 minutes for a new burger by the time it came my family had finished there food, and my mum ordered there large roast dinner which was very disappointing only 3 slices of thin meat and I don’t want to over exaggerate but the meat was hard to cut and even squeeked 😂 not very good for £18 I then ordered dessert and it took over 20 minutes and still we hadn’t received it I just wanted our money back, staff were polite and agreed of the poor quality of the food.

I have been visiting the king William for a few years now, I have been coming in a lot more frequently over the last few months as it has had an amazing refurbishment the staff are lovely, Great service! Thanks again!

We came here on the weekend for the first time since the new refurb for a family get together. There were 10 of us and we all had food. Out of the 10 only 2 enjoyed their meal, fish and chips and Lasagne. I had Scampi which were mushy, peas looked old like they has been sat out, and the chips were hit and miss. The rest all had the roasts which were really poor. Hard veg, especially the carrots that you couldn't even cut, hard potatoes, just generally poor. It says "Proper roasts" on the menu but these were way off! Would return for a pint, but definitely not for food. Shame as this place has so much potential!

My first visit with hubby today Decor lovely, very clean and tidy Service ok Very disappointed with my Sunday dinner £14 for 2 pieces of rock hard roasted carrot not Edible , 3 small ( not fluffy as described) roasted pot, peas you could count on your plate so small portion, 2 tiny pieces of soggy parsnip and Yorkshire was ok But for the price was not worth it at all. It states proper roasts well Sorry you have this so wrong ! My hubby had the twin back Burger it was delicious. Your roast needs a good look at. We come Back but not For your roast

Visited on Mother’s Day. Pre-booked table and the food. When we got into the restaurant we were pointed from the front desk to a table, didn’t bother walking us over, had to tell them to remove cleaning supplies from the table. After sitting down for about 25 minutes and being ignored by members of staff we went over to the bar to order drinks ourselves. After waiting an hour we finally got our main course. We then had to wait another hour for the dessert and had to give the waiter our dessert choices again - these were pre-ordered. The food itself was lovely but the place is extremely understaffed and we got sat right next to the bar where a Rugby Match was put on tv, we couldn’t hear ourselves speak and had to ask if it could possibly be turned down considering we’re having our Mothers Day Lunch! Not once has a drink been offered to us nor were we told we have to go order ourselves. As much as I understand it gets really busy on occasions the experience was awful and I would not go back.

This pub has a lot going for it, it's in a good location and has recently been refurbished, so it has a great look and feel both inside and outside. Everything was really clean, even the toilets were nice. Unfortunately the food let it down big time, it's just not good in terms of taste. Service was not bad, but not good either. When you order a cocktail, you don't really expect to hear a member of staff say "who orders cocktails anyway?". A very strange attitude towards customers ordering menu items, however the person who served me at the bar was very friendly. On the plus side, the burgers we ate were on 2 for 1, and now that we've tried them, it's a certainty that we'd never return to try anything else.

Booked for mothers day, 3 people, paid £5 per person to book, pre ordered 3 meals starters, mains, puddings. Got there to be told, only 2 pre orders!!! But they would add another on! Waited 30 mins for starters, waited another 35 mins for mains, food not worth waiting for when it came. 30 mins after finishing mains, they came to ask if we had been told puddings had sold out, but we could have ice cream!!!! Even tho we had pre ordered!!!! Told them no thanks, "would you like us to take puddings off the bill" really. Dont think we will be back. Such a shame, had high hopes for the New King Bill!!!!

Excellent food, great service too

An undate from a year ago. My wife had a meal a few months back, she and her friends were very disappointed with the quality of the food and delivery time. We went to a birthday do yesterday. Due to the size of the group, we had to prebook the food. Even though they knew what everyone had ordered, the delivery was again really slow. I ordered a burger, on the basis that it is really basic. However it eventually turned up really burnt. I think even the waitress was embaressed serving me my plate. Consequently my meal had to be re-cooked. This again took a really long time to prepare and deliver. In the meantime everyone else had finished and were hoping to get going to watch the cup final. So I had to really rush my meal. In addition those who had the carvery were really disappointed with the amount of veg on the plate - certainly a few grumbles! My son's salad dish again was poor, and was helping his grandfather eat his fish and chips (in fairness we all were impressed with the size of the fish). I was also disappointed in that I was hoping to taste the "genesis beer" - which wasn't on tap. All in all very disappointed, luckily the company was good! High St over the past years have lost 2 pubs (last being the half moon). If king bill doesn't provide the service, quality and quantity for a "premium" price - then sadly it could go the same way. Must admit I was hoping of better things when Brewpoint took over. Sadly not the case. Bar staff very friendly. Didn't have any real ale on tap, which was bit of a shock. Surprised at the high price of lagers. I'd not been there for quite a while. Probably a long time before I go again.

Everything apart from fish and chips has tiny portions, it's all overcooked or burnt and the service is slow. I've been several times since the renovation and it just gets worse

Nice revamp with a friendly warm atmosphere

I booked a couple a couple of weeks ago. When I made the booking I told the lady it was for my 60th birthday.we waited at entrance on arrival for somebody to come and show us to a table. Nobody came. We went to the bar. Got a table that was too small for 5 adults and a child. Which was next to a tv. We asked to move to another table.we was moved to a bigger table.we was not given any menus which I went and got myself. We was not asked if we had any dietary requirements. I thought I would have got a table away from main bar as you had plenty of notice of my booking. Not once was we asked if our meals were ok even when a young lad came to clear the plates. We had to aske for more cutlery and napkins.food was not good my son in law fish was all batter and over cooked. All the other meals were not a very good quality . The only good bit of the meal was the deserts. When I went to pay my bill which was £148.00. A member of staff just walked past without asking if I needed anything. I was not asked if my food was ok or thanked for my custom. I was very disappointed with my one and only visit to your pub today.what was meant to be I nice family for my birthday was a bad one

We went for lunch, looking forward to seeing the pub after it's refurbished. Although it looks nice and refreshed, even though it was a bit quiet, the service was very slow and lacking in warmth or personality. The food was a let down too. Fish had a nice batter but the actual cod was dark and bland (why??) chips were plentiful and tasty. In the Full English breakfast, the sausages were on the turn and smelt like vinegar (why??) spat out after one bite. Beer garden looked nice but we didn't use it as it was freezing that day. Prices were slightly higher than expected but I guess the refurbishment has to be paid for somehow. Maybe we will try again in the next few weeks to see if they have improved.

This place has certainly upped its game. Recently revamped, which was long overdue, but what a difference! It was buzzing on Sunday, fab atmosphere, cosy and welcoming. The food was really good, we had fish and chips and ham egg and chips and it went down very well. When we looked online at the menu, it said that they did steaks. When we were in the pub looking at the menu, steaks were missing. Asked a member of staff, and she said they were not available since the makeover, which was really disappointing. We were not the only diners that asked about them either. Hopefully, they will come back again. The toilets are lovely and clean. Could do with a hook on back of the loo door to hang coats/bags, though. Also, the hand dryer wasn't working. Plenty of parking, plenty of outside seating at the front, side, and rear. Pub has great kerb appeal now. Would definitely recommend and will be returning very soon 👍

Waited over half hour for a bowl of soup. Which when arrived was like a stock cube dissolved in hot water. Awful. Did refund.

Staff should be updated on the deals and offers. Food is generally good, a tendency to cremation of meat, perhaps due to overcautious regulation. Chips were great.

We thought we would try the King William for a second time as we thought as it was new that may be why there was issues. Unfortunately even on a second visit the service is still poor. We booked a table and on arrival there was no staff to be seen. After waiting for 5 minutes at the front with staff looking through the kitchen window and not greeting us, we went to the bar to let them know we were there and ask where our table was. When the food arrived the fish was completely burned and the burger was not as we ordered. Unfortunately no members of staff came over to check if everything was ok with our food to raise this issue and our plates were only cleared when desert arrived despite the same member of staff walking past our table at least 5 times. The place unfortunately lacks any customer service and looking at the age of most staff I would place this as a management issue. Really disappointed to be leaving this review but we will not be returning and management should be aware of the issues for the future. If you could also seat “restaurant” customers away from the shouting football fans, the environment would be more pleasant.

We hosted our little girls first birthday here and was here for NYE. The whole experience was incredible thanks to Mirah and her team! Mirah went out of her way for us, with finding us space, letting us decorate before. The food was superb! The interior since the renovation is super snug and they also show live sports. Superb all round - absolutely recommend!

We are sorry to say that we would not recomend to our friends eating here, my wife didnt enjoy her chicken burger,she said not much food on this plate? I had the steak & ale pie, this was a classic microwave meal....pastry really hard to cut with the knife, the lump of mash shaped like a sausage was very course not soft & creamy as it should be, peas were hard, uncooked? Basically the meal tasted & looked like it had been warmed up ,yesterdays leftovers, very poor for the price. Sorry ......we will give it a miss in future. Tony & kerry

The king William has been our local for over 8 years. We were excited to come back after hearing all the positive comments after the refurd of the pub in Oct/nov 2023. Sadly our experience was very poor. The food (1x chicken burger, 1x cheese burger, 1x hunters chicken) took over an hour and half to come. The food was well below average, and for the prices around £13 a meal, I would expect a much higher quality. Despite that we stayed to enjoy our drinks, and the bar closed despite there being any signal of last orders. Overall a very disappointing experience, incredibly overpriced food for poor quality, and I wouldn’t recommend a visit.

Went for sunday lunch on 17th Dec with my wife and two friends. I opted for the roast chicken. the others had chicken curry and fish and chips. Waited 45 minutes for the food. What I got was a 3 inch square of butterfly chicken, overcooked roast potatoes and curly kale that was cold and raw. The curry had to be sent back as it was cold. The fish and chips were bland and looked like they had been thrown on the plate. Peas that accompanied were cold and raw. How any chef/cook could call my meal a roast dinner and let it leave the kitchen has no pride in their work. Overall very disappointed in the King William. Pointed out these problems to the young waiter but heard nothing more. Didn't order a dessert and we won't be in any hurry to return.

Sandwich filling was lovely, bread had dried a bit from the hot plates. Chips delicious. Service great and very helpful. The pub has been transformed, good atmosphere

*Edited ..Newly opened and refurbed plus looking good .I love the new lease of life this pub has .Service was good and as a DJ / Record collector I enjoyed hearing a varied of selection of background music such as Alice Clark and Black Heat . Lets get onto the food .The plant burger was exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed it , however my wife's fish and chips could have been better as the batter was very pale and fish undercooked . It was extremely busy so maybe there was an oversight . I would have gone an extra star to 5 if it was not for the fish but that's not put us off as the plant burger was next level . We told the waiter who agreed to pass our feedback to the chef and was very pleasant. I've edited this review because as the new owners are right on with response and professional , the customer service on the day was awesome .We will be back again as we are so local and judging by my excellent burger I know the fish was an error and I can see the feedback on the night went somewhere.Overall nice pub , busy friendly and worth a visit .Update ..we are coming back and so grateful for the pub management's reply as they care about customers 💐 thanks again

Like the new facelift. We had a selection of the burgers, the chicken ones were fine but beef ones tasted cheap and like they had been microwaved. Very shortsighted by Wells and Co to remove Guinness and replace with their own stout!

My local pub has had a revamp and we thought we give it a try yesterday on burger night.The pub has a good atmosphere and the pub revamp looked nice.I liked the fact that you can take in your dog.They took our order but 5 minutes later an embarrassed waitress came to inform us that they didn't have any chicken burgers.We then had to adapt 75% of our order.The food came and it was disappointing,my burger was overdone,bun burnt, onion rings burnt and iceberg lettuce limp.The best thing on the plate was the 8 chips.I hope them all the best for the future but our experience yesterday leads a lot to be improved.

Just reopened after a revamp. Outside looking really good. Inside decor freasend up. Food not up to scratch both our burgers were overdone, just not enough to send back. A good choice of beers and friendly barstaff.

Had a Sunday roast 26/11/23. Impressed with what has been done to outside and interior. It was just little things that let the experience down, such as no coat hooks so coats draped over chairs. No bitter, just Brewpoints own beers. I had beef and it was a bit tough to cut and chew. Other than that prices are reasonable and nice bright seating areas. Will definitely try midweek for a sandwich and coffee as Brewpoint do nice coffees.

Last week I booked a table x5 persons for Sunday lunch on 24th September at 1pm. Arrived to be told that the kitchen is closed. Why couldn’t they have let us know sooner? Our friends had travelled for 2 hours to meet us. It was too late to find an alternative. Absolutely disgusting service! Never again!!

Beautiful and friendly staff, lovely old timey local pub for all the geezers and a big pub garden for all the kids and smokers to congregate!

My partner and I are locals, we have tried many times since the new management to come for lunch/dinner to support local businesses, but on atleast 4 occasions they have either 'not been serving food' 'chef hasn't turned up' 'we have no buns' the list goes on. Today, we tried again to visit for the 241 burger deal, which we were told they had no burgers, nor were we giving another option. I asked to speak to the manager and was faced with a very rude, abrupt person who would not accept any accountability. I was simply trying to offer some constructive feedback from a local about the lack of consistency in the pub, but it was one excuse after the other. The manager even tried to lie and say that they have only stopped the food once, which even other locals in the pub laughed at, I am not a lier, nor am I someone who was trying to get a freebie, the pub is beautiful and has such potential but is being ran by poor management making poor decisions. Three others within the pub agreed with us, too! The manager eventually offered us 30% off meals and some drinks. I explained that you are offering 241 burgers, which is a 50% discount, which she then said she couldn't put that through the till !! It was one lie after the other, which she was caught out on as I've worked in pubs for many years. It ended with the manager saying "fine" and walking off in a strop through the door. The other locals in the pub laughed as it was so childish and agreed with everything I was politely saying to her. Unfortunately, this was the last straw for KW, we went somewhere else for dinner and will continue to do so until the next round of management comes..

Absolutely appalling service. I booked a table to treat my family out a couple of weeks ago. When arriving and said we had a table booked for 5 they lady said we’re not serving food today as we have had a glass and water leak. I said well I’ve booked and not been informed of this and another lady piped up and said our server was down and couldn’t contact you. A few lies a believe as 1 if there was a gas leak why are there still people in the pub and no workers there to fix the problem. If your chef didn’t turn up just be honest and say so. Worst service possible I would have given 0 starts but to leave this review I have had to give you 1 Anyone looking to book here think twice

Heard the "Bill" had got new management so decided to give it another go after our disastrous last visit 14 months ago. Visited on a Friday evening; it was busy in both the bar and dining room but staff were welcoming, friendly and professional. We were seated quickly, all choices on the menu were available and the food arrived quickly. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was a good feeling about the place. I do hope this continues as this special old Kempston building deserves to be loved and treasured

Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and fresh. I had the roast chicken and my husband had the beef burger. Extremely reasonable priced and the portions were fab. Ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and it was so big, I couldn’t finish it and the waiter kindly offered to box it up for me, Would highly recommend coming here.

I had dinner recently at the King William while working in the area. I felt very welcomed by the staff when I entered and found it to be a really pleasant atmosphere making it very comfortable even while eating on my own. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced with a good portion size. Next time I am back in the area I will happily eat here again.

We organised a wake here, very easy to book lots of options. Our guests really enjoyed being out in the garden. The staff were friendly and attentive. Just one suggestion, with the tea and coffee option I was expecting a help yourself table I feel this would have been better for our guests. You did need to ask from the bar. As this was part of the package it did not feel good value for money as it was not clear for our guests on arrival that this was available.

Ah, at last, a pub in my home town that I can finally call my local! 🤠 Under fresh new management from the Charlie Wells project (with a huge refurbishment scheduled for later this year), the pub is once again firing on all cylinders: great selection of beers and spirits, fresh food prepared daily and both the staff and pub regulars are ready to give you a warm welcome. It also frequently features live music, with a plethora of local acts performing on a Friday or Saturday night. See you at the bar! 🍻

Went for a drink in the King William just before Christmas, then booked a meal for the following day. The new manager had only just started. We mentioned we'd been told how they never had your first or even second choice of food, and he said they had everything in stock. So we booked and had an enjoyable meal. We have just returned from having Sunday lunch, it was very tasty and nicely presented. So will definitely return again. Nice too to support our struggling hospitality sector too.

We enjoyed going back into the pub, the new manager was pleasant and hopefully when the pub has been refurbished it will have even more pleasant atmosphere then it has now and had before years ago.

Visit to see my good friend, and interim manager, Mark on Xmas Eve. A lovely old pub, full of corners and nooks, allegedly haunted too...beers good, food looked great...needs more local support but it's in good hands to get there

This country pub is nice and cosy. I popped up there randomly searching for an evening meal. I had bangers and mash and also a glass of wine. It was Thursday evening and the place was not too busy but I've been sat next to a radiator and considering low temperature outside I've known that I'm going to enjoy. And my... I have had! Don't expect special luxury but you can count on warm meal, a pint and a welcome hospitality.

Food is absolutely poor and the manager Amy is absolutely rude and un approachable with issues with service. Just avoid at all costs. Absolutely appalling. Poor choice of beer on tap and just a let down. once was a great pub. Bring back Joe and Andy. Was great when they run it.

Lovely Sunday roast and excellent service!!

Staff were lovely and aimed to be helpful. The Sunday roast was a sad attempt. No enquiries regarding food allergies so the cauliflower cheese on my plate was the reason for its return. The replaced plate was chipped and broken. The roast potatoes were not homemade and were like bullets! The best part of the meal was the gravy and the company with me! King Bill... what a bloody shame your food is letting you down when you have fab staff and a warm welcome!

Horrible experience. Service was awful, waiters putting their heads on each others shoulders. Hand sanitiser bottle all rotten. Asked for some forks and got told one minute, 10 minutes later the waiter said he was too busy putting through someone else’s order. Absolutely awful, never going back

Disappointed, wrong food arrived,, sticky tables, instant mash. Shame, looked lovely from outside.

Beautiful place lovely big beer garden

Unfortunately the cook was having a meltdown when we arrived, and couldn't get any food, the staff gave us a complementary drink as way of an apology and we left.

Popped in for a few beers before heading back to Coventry . Great bar staff and service !!! Sat in the garden with our drinks !!!!. A big thanks to the woman behind the bar who gave my mate a baby bottle as his drink when he got back from the rest room !!!
