Kazoku Bedford in Bedford

Absolutely fantastic gem. Amazing food, the sushi and sashimi dishes are incredible. As well as the hot dishes such as tempura , katsu and yakitori. Lovely decor and the serving staff very knowledgeable and helped us to order the perfect meal for us. Very reasonably priced for the quality. I will be going back.

I went there on a family recommendation. They have a few parking spaces out the back of the restaurant. We received a friendly welcome and promptly shown to our seats. After perusing the rather large selection of dishes to order, we made our decisions. A few bits to share as a starter and our mains. All came out nicely presented using Bella - the service robot - to carry everything at the same time. An enjoyable meal. I'm happy to recommend to others and I would go back

Overall, our meal was delicious and served with a good level considerateion. One server took the time to go over the whole menu with my dad regarding a allergies. Some food did turn up late however and one starter didn't come until our mains had arrived. We'd chalked it up to servers relying on iPads for the orders which crashed.

Had a lovely meal here, sashimi salad, muso aubergine and then a fabulous salmon teriyaki bento box. Really nice service, warm n cosy inside. Look forward to returning!

We went here the other week. Food was good as was the service but we did come quite early. The place was quite cold though. We will come back.

The food is average, the place is freezing, I had to have my coat on all the time. The service is super slow, waited 10 mins to order the drinks, another 20 mins to order the food, …… the first food came out 70 mins after we got there…… I am not going back anymore

We have been to Kazoku several times and the food is always fantastic, the best local sushi we have had. Unfortunately the service does let them down a little, while the waiters are all friendly, the service is very slow at times with it often taking a long time to get any drinks. The restaurant itself is nice but can be busy on the weekends and prices are very reasonable.

We had a fantastic meal at Kazoku. Delicious food, friendly staff and good atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again in the future.

The food was average overall. The sushi was okay. The ramen was bland and I would not recommend ordering it. The waiter was very friendly and attentive.

As good as any Japanese I've had anywhere in the UK. Relaxed place, friendly people and well priced. What more can you ask... Oh, a robot cat?! Yes, they have that too.

Tonight’s staff doesn’t seem to know what they are doing or how good customer service is done. We’ve patiently waited for 45min and made several follow-ups for our food order for 5 person. Nothing fancy. Just 3 bento boxes and a couple of ramen. We saw newer orders from other tables being served as quite fast. Order came after another 20 mins from the last follow-up. Ramen orders came in a bit cold. Had it re-heated but waited again for 15mins. Previous crew were a bit more professional and service was quicker. Would NOT be visiting this branch for some time as this experience left a bit of bad taste (pun intended).

What a lovely little place. The food is amazing. The staff are super polite and helpful. They have a cat robot!!! Would recommend. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the place could do with a little updating. However it is very clean!!

Although the only two sushi roll dishes we managed to order were nice, a very disappointing experience. We waited for 50 min for the two dishes to arrive in an empty restaurant, after asking twice, with no real response. We also asked to order main course twice and no one came to take our order. Disappointedly, we paid the bill and left without ordering main course. Such a shame.

Service was attentive. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Portion was generous. Price was right. Just the restaurant needs more Japanese atmosphere.

I went on a weekday evening, so it was very quiet, only one other couple at the time. Food was lovely (tempura bento, spicy tuna rolls, Inari nigiri) especially the agedashi tofu. The serving robot was cute too!

Ridiculous. Hardly anyone in the restaurant and just been clearly ignored for 25 mins. No drink no food. Serving people who sat down after us. My sons 6th birthday. Not great at all a massive down grade on the original Hitchin restaurant!!!

Mine and my partners favourite place! The food is incredible never had any complaints, always comes out fast and the service is good. This is hands down our favourite place to come for Japanese cuisine,we always come out with full bellies and happy faces😁

Great food, let down by poor service. We could barely get the attention of staff, were given incorrect information about a dish when we did! Dining room was at maximum 1/3 capacity! Such a shame, could just do with a floor manager to coordinate. To reiterate - food was very tasty and fresh, and there were some surprisingly original options to choose from.

So decided to try this place as I love Japanese food, the staff were nice but the service was extremely slow. The food was very disappointing, the nigiri was tasteless and the sashimi was ok. After a very disappointing evening, the bill took forever to come and slightly expensive!

We visited this Japanese restaurant after a friend of mine recommended it to us and she came along as she was happy to come along with us. This place used to be a Chinese restaurant now transformed into a Japanese one, the place looks quite forlorn of any unembelishment with very little decoration, just pater shades hanging from the ceiling, overall not appealing. Service wise in my opinion I think the waiters should come to the table sooner to ask for drinks, I really do not like waiting ten minutes to get a drink, in my humble opinion it should be ask as soon as you sit down. Truth to be told once we ordered everything came in a blink of an eye and food look very appetising served in a quite nice looking tableware. The food was either disappointing or delicious, I'm sorry to say so as I hate giving bad reviews but I would hate myself more to be dishonest. I had nigiri and sashimi myself, the sashimi was just ok but the nigiri was tasteless, where is the rice vinegar flavour? Bland, really bland. I normally do not like to indulge into much soy sauce dipping but in this case is a must, otherwise there's no flavour, disappointing. But on the other hand everything else was delicious, scrumptious. The salmon teriyaki was superb, the pork katsu soup super nice. We definitely want to return and try more things but honestly there's room for improvement. Please have a go yourself.

Great authentic Japanese food in a nice and easy environment (and a robot!)

Nice staff, very pleasant surroundings in restaurant, huge menus, very reasonably priced.

Found the food to be really average, especially the sushi. Nigiri and Sashimi was rubbery and tasteless, rolls were slightly better. Cooked food was generally good although the fish pakora didn’t taste that fresh. Service was slow, we struggled to order additional drinks as it was quite inattentive

What a good experience visiting this restaurant, their technology is really up to date. Food were great and different from their other one in Hitchin, I’d highly recommend you to try this. Looking forward to go back again ☺️

We went for dinner on Saturday evening, I appreciate it was busy but the service was so bad. I’ve never experienced anything like it! After sitting at our table for 20mins we had to get up and ask someone to serve us. They must’ve been short staffed but there was little to no attentiveness and the tables next to us clearly felt the same. In addition to this it took another half an hour for our drinks to come (they only came because I reminded them) and almost an hour for our mains to come out. Unbelievably slow, it felt impossible to even get the bill, sitting for 10mins trying to flag someone down. The man who served us was apologetic and clearly rushed off his feet but the management need to do better. Such a shame because the food was really good but put us off ever coming back.

There were 12 of us for great grandchild birthday. The robot was a great attraction. The service was excellent, and everyone loved the food. We will be back.

It took over two hours to have dinner. More than 30 minutes for a waiter to take note of our order, without offering any drinks or anything. We won't be back. The food was alright.

Worst dining experience of my life. Don’t often review but after wasting two hours in this joke of an establishment, it is my duty to warn anyone thinking of going here to not waste your time or money here! Waited over half an hour to be seen to for someone to take our order and over an hour and half for the food to come there after. The dumplings were deep fried black and tasteless, the ramen noodles and broth tasted like left over soap water which quite frankly would have preferred having pot noodles over and the sushi was so stodgy sticking in my teeth with every bite, the seaweed paper was really thick and make it really really difficult to eat, Definitely the worst sushi of my life. On top of the extremely poor food and service, the waitresses were really rude. All in all Left hungry and In the end had to resort going to kfc which sums it up!

Not even worth one star. Gyozas were burnt to a crisp and tasteless. Noodles were tasteless with a side of birds eye chicken and sushi was dry, had better from a tesco meal deal. Surely they must pay for fake reviews, food and service was poor. Our drinks never even came to the table and staff well aware we were unhappy and they did nothing to amend the bill other than a ingenuine sorry. Never coming back and do not recommend.

Arrived at 19:50 and wait 30 minutes to get the order, not even a drink. Service extremely slow and we only ordered 3 dishes..I wouldn't be back, the food is not that good to be waiting for hours!

We came here after going to the cinema nearby. Whilst the food was very good (apart from some complimentary edamame beans which were cold), the service was shockingly poor. We were seated quickly enough, but then waited about 15 minutes for someone to take our order, we then waited for our drinks and after 25 minutes we managed to flag down a waiter to ask where our drinks were, they eventually brought them after 10 more minutes of waiting. We then eventually managed to get the attention of a waiter after an hour since placing our order to ask them where our food was. They went away and came back to retake our order! We then waited another 20 minutes before the first of our food came out. To make matters worse, they only had 6 tables, granted one was large with 8 people, but they were eating when we arrived. So it's not like they were overrun with custom. Unfortunately, I won't go back. It also makes me question whether I'd visit their branch in Hitchin.

Took 1 hour to get our drinks, food also came out 30 mins after that for starters. Took near enough 2 hours for our mains.

I’ve only been to a Japanese restaurant once before in Bedford but much prefer Kazoku. The staff were friendly and very helpful in explaining the portion sizes. Loved the bean dish whilst we waited for our order. I was surprised how quickly I got used to their chopsticks and loved the robot waiters!

Great range of food & great service. We had been meaning to visit this establishment to sample their food for quite some time & wish we’d visited sooner. The restaurant itself feels rather spacious but the staff were quite welcoming. The menu was basic in appearance but it contained quite a variety (across maybe 10 pages?) of dishes from starters & dim sum, to sushi & smaller items, right through to larger main dishes. We decided to stick with a variety of smaller items to sample the sushi etc. I was really surprised how quick some of the dishes could be prepared and we both really liked the presentation of the dishes. The fine details with some of the sushi dishes we sampled really showed off the chef’s skills. Unfortunately none of our dishes were delivered by their robotic serving tray ;) Looking forward to returning to try more of the main menu.

At long last, Bedford finally has an authentic Japanese restaurant! 🍣 Some of the front of house staff are locals, which can help with occasional language or cultural barriers, but the rest of the staff are all Japanese - as it should be. Having been versed in Japanese culture from an early age, through practising Karate with Japanese teachers and developing an interest in Japanese cinema in my teenage years, I knew that the service would be of both a friendly yet professional standard. Advice: place your order with the numbers on the menu rather than saying the names of the dishes, it will speed up your service. The artwork and aesthetic in the restaurant is also highly authentic - they've certainly brought a little bit of Honshu with them to our town, that's for sure, complete with a pink blossom tree in the front garden 🌸 As for the food, it really is sublime. Fresh ingredients, prepared with care and precision. I've tried about half of the sushi options so far, and all of them have been perfect. They even accommodated my partner with a gluten free menu, and she loved her Hamachi Nigri and her Tuna and avocado Uramaki. The Kushiyaki mixed grill skewers (chicken, prawn, scallops, beef) were delicious as well. Ive said enough. Come and support your local Japanese. Osu! 🥋🇯🇵

Wasabi was great, food wasn’t bad, service was excellent. Extremely disappointed to have spent £100 on our meal to receive a £100 parking ticket a few weeks later, from following their big KAZOKU sign and parking in their car park. There were a few staff out the back who saw where we parked and watched me get my daughter out of the car before welcoming us in through the back of the restaurant so I’m not sure why they didn’t tell us we’d parked in the wrong spot if that was the case. I just came here to call them for assistance and they don’t have a contact number to ask for help cancelling it :( Seems we have to go there and get another ticket in order to attempt to rid the one we have.

The staff very friendly. My only dislike is the rice. Is it not what I expected of Japanese rice. That my opinion. That rest is yummy.

Booked a table for 8pm. Arrived at 7.55. Me and my pregnant partner were sat down at a table. 40 minutes later, zero acknowledgement. No drinks. No sorry for the wait. The table behind us had been waiting for food since 6.30 pm. We walked out and went to Wagamama

Nice Japanese cousin. Spread out seating. Nice bar with wide selection. Yummy starters. Must try pumpkin croquet and crispy chicken. Main attraction is robot delivering your food to your table.

Not worth a visit. Mizo tasted like cheap soup sold at supermarket. Fish Portion was very small and didnt taste good. Very disappointing.

This place is great verry vegatrian friendly and really nice food.

Firstly with the positives. The food was was fantastic and I could not fault it. The dumplings and the tempura really stood out. Loved the Soba noodles as well. The restaurant was busy and it had a good feel about it. The negatives. We arrived at 7.45 on a Thursday night, this was our first visit. We finally were asked what we would like to drink after 30 minutes and ordered food after 45 minutes. It would have been nice if on arrival we were advised that you were short staffed and there would be delays. At least we could of then made the decision to stay or go elsewhere. I would also suggest when guests arrive you ask if they need any advice on ordering as the menu is quite extensive and although very lovely. I would rate 3.5 but that is not an option so it is a 3, however I am hoping it will be a 5 on our next visit as the food is definitely worth coming back for. I will also try some of the other lovely dishes on the menu. Regards Nick

Dined here with my daughter. The food was excellent. Would highly recommend this to everyone. My daughter is veggie and she enjoyed everything she ordered, I had deep fried wan tun and a ribeye ramen. Very very tasty. They even have a cat robot that delivers food to your table!

The set is made from a do-it-yourself kit, the ginger is weathered like the shrimp in the set. No better than ready-made kits in lidl

Excellent meal and good service. Went here for the first time last night and we’ll definitely be going back. An extensive menu (almost too much!) which included all aspects of Japanese cuisine. The Sushi was excellent and the noodles were very tasty. Reasonable prices with our quite large meal for two, including sake and deserts, costing £70. Some reviewers have criticised the service but we went on a Thursday, the restaurant was probably half full and the service was very good and attentive. The noodle dish was piping hot and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Very extensive menu. Slow, uncoordinated service but the food is good with authenticity of flavours and presentation. Sashimi sliced far too thick but it was fresh. We'll priced and the little robot dolly is an amusing distraction whilst waiting. I would go back.

Went for the first time. Very poor service. Ordered drinks and came after 40 mins. Starters took 45 mins and our mains was served after an hour. Being a vegetarian, not much choice. Stir fried vegetables were tasteless. Waste of money and time. Never going there again. :(

It was very unfortunate that after attending with a party of 11 we left before the food was served. Not only was one of the staff members rude, the majority of the food took up to 2 hours to be brought to the table which at that point we cancelled the remainder of the food due to the lack of apology and pure disappointment. We have visited when first opened and been happy with the initial visit however this has ruined it for us. It is also worth adding that there is no allergen info on the menu as some of the ingredients are not declared. The staff failed to ask if anyone had any allergies as week which is also disappointing.

I give this place 5 stars due to the excellent quality ingredients that contribute to the delicious taste of everything we ate. We had the sushi bento, chicken noodles and won ton which had lovely flavours and tasted home made. They have a little robot to take the food to tables, but the little guy sometimes gets confused about where to stop. This was quite entertaining. Thankfully they still have human waitresses but some of them would really benefit from proper training as the lady who served us did all the things a waitresses should not do, including taking away plates when one hasn't finished. The service would get 2 stars and ambience 3 stars, but the food made up for it and I will definitely go there again.

Good food. Lexie was was great with our table suggesting what me might like to eat based on talking to us and allowing us to change some meat dishes for fish and veg.

We celebrated a birthday here and the staff was accommodating with our special order and requests. There is free parking at the back. The robot even delivered and sang happy birthday. A great dining experience and highly recommended.

Really poor service be warned if you go in a large party. Struggled with order with some of the party leaving without food after waiting over 2 hours.

Service was honestly the worst I had ever received only to be outdone by the awful food. We saw some bad reviews, but still risked it unfortunately it didn’t pay off. Food was cold and had no freshness to it what so ever. Also we didn’t receive 2 of our main dishes.

Absolutely delicious food with a huge variety. If you go at a peak time you might have a bit of a wait, but I think that's because everything is prepared freshly by a couple of chefs. If you don't mind being patient, it's well worth it.

Frustrated with the service! I checked the opening hours online and called to confirm it: both said 10pm I've arrived at 9:25pm and they advised me that they could not take my order because the kitchen was already closed. I claimed I had checked beforehand and had the following response: "yes, the restaurant closes at 10pm but the kitchen closes half hour before! " So be mindful with then since they must not understand that when people ask for opening hours for a takeaway we are interested in having some food rather than just passing to say them good night!

Sushi was tough, cold and didn't seem fresh. Shame !!!!. Tuna was very chewy, sashimi not great.

I did bring this up at the time, but service was shocking, people in my party said the food was delicious. But It was very difficult, drinks orders had to be taken twice. Food came out and wrong food, and wrong explanations, most of the younger staff have no idea what they are serving which is very concerning when people in our party have allergies and are vegetarian. I feel like they can improve on the issues. But its very difficult to like something when the service was so bad. I feel bad for the staff involved also they seem absolutely terrified. We arrived and it took a total of 2 hours to receive of mains. They did try and redeem it with a free dessert but to be honest the damage to the experience had been done. Main points to look at is clean menus, not paper ones that are being reused that have food stains on. Waiting staff that know what they’re serving and just general awareness for their customers, we werent asked at any point how the meal was or if we needed drinks. We had to ask for the bill 3 times. Disappointing.

The food here is delicious and authentic, great experience and loads of new types of food I've never had. Unfortunately the service is quite awful. Most of the service people have no idea what they're doing, had to take our drink order twice. Waiting over 90 minutes for our mains. Staff don't know the food or the numbers, and forget requests for drinks and water etc. Don't want to come again.

Went for an anniversary meal with the family at this Japanese restaurant. The crispy squid starter was one of the best I have had. My wife had a Bento box which she enjoyed, while I had Black Cod in miso sauce, really delicate & delicious. Loved the robot waiter.

Have reviewed this visit in more detail on Trip Advisor but essentially the food was fantastic but service appalling. A more than 1 hour wait with inexperienced and fairly clueless staff. No identifiable manager to sort things out. Such a shame since we love the idea of a Japanese restaurant in the Bedford. The food output seems to be slow but on top of that customer expectations are not managed at all. I notice that a number of people have had similar experiences.
