Top, top quality steak. Had a really good meal sat by the log burner with a nice drop of beer. The onion rings were bang on. Crispy on the outside, onion still crunchy, not mushy, on the inside. Staff dealt well with Covid restrictions and being in a different location while the pub is being sorted.

Nos alojamos en Brockwood Hall por 3 noches, así que decidimos comer en King Billy el viernes por la noche. Reservamos a principios de semana. Siendo vegetariano, comí champiñones al ajillo con patatas fritas, a mi compañero le dijeron que se estaba sirviendo un bistec que estaba encantado y fue por un bistec, pidió aros de cebolla y salsa de queso y chile, un par de minutos después, la camarera regresó diciendo que el chef no haría más aros de cebolla, pero algunos se servirían con el bistec. Bastante justo, pero luego regresó para decir que el chef no haría la salsa que no le ofrecieron una comida alternativa que ella simplemente se apresuró a ir. Mi compañero no estaba contento de que luego vio que se servía el asado del domingo junto con salsa y preguntó si podía comer salsa, esta solicitud fue concedida, así que estaba feliz.Ambos estábamos encantados con nuestra comida.El personal tiene que trabajar muy duro.

Tuve una comida familiar aquí mientras me hospedaba en las cabañas de Brockwood Hall durante un día festivo, logré reservar una mesa para un martes por la noche durante el plan de comida del gobierno para ayudar. Los filetes y la salsa de champiñones al ajo eran deliciosos y porciones de buen tamaño, también tuve el pastel de queso baileys, que era increíble, y lo mejor fue que la factura estaba a mitad de precio, así que una muy buena relación calidad-precio, ¡definitivamente vale la pena visitar! !

Este lugar como muchos probablemente ha perdido mucha atmósfera debido a Covid. ¡Era nuestra primera vez allí el miércoles y no puedo recomendar este lugar lo suficiente! !Necesitará reservar con mucha anticipación, pero honestamente, si es un amante de la carne, quedará impresionado.

Entramos en el King Billy según las especificaciones al pasar, ya que todos teníamos hambre y había sido un día largo y llegamos tarde a casa. A pesar de estar en el límite de las 20:30 para la comida, el chef estaba feliz de tomar nuestro pedido de comida para llevar.Como teníamos prisa, todos pedimos hamburguesa con queso y patatas fritas. Esto vino debidamente y lo llevamos a casa 1 1/2 millas para comerlo. Al desenvolver la comida, se hizo evidente que estaba lejos de la hamburguesa y papas fritas promedio para llevar. Las patatas fritas eran enormes cuñas caseras que tenían un sabor delicioso. La hamburguesa era carne de primera calidad servida con queso y un gran anillo de cebolla sabroso, todo encerrado en un divino bollo de brioche. Nunca me había sorprendido tanto la inesperada calidad de una comida tan sencilla que todos coincidimos en que era magnífica. Enhorabuena al Rey Billy, a mí ya mi familia acudiremos para una comida adecuada la próxima vez que estemos en la zona.

Decidió tener comida para llevar en las últimas vacaciones. Ordenó en el bar con mosquitero y fue a cobrar a la hora asignada. Muy eficiente y hecho con una sonrisa. Comida brillante y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Hamburguesa preciosa / patatas fritas caseras y aros de cebolla. También venden carnes frescas y quesos y tienen una buena selección de vinos para comprar por botella o caja a precios razonables. Esto es ideal para aquellos que se alojan en casas de vacaciones que no desean conducir lejos por la noche.

We were a party of four out for a birthday meal, we had heard of this restaurant but never visited, what an experience, the steaks all four, were cooked to perfection and the sides were just right. The chef thought he had overcooked our medium rates and afforded to send out another two, we declined as they were just right

Not a lot to say other than get down there. Food is always great! We've never had to wait long, and the staff are always friendly.

Tuve una gran noche aquí comiendo los mejores filetes de ternera, costillas a la barbacoa y bebiendo una gran cerveza Ale local.Siempre es un placer ir allí porque Barry ciertamente sabe cómo cocinar un increíble filete de ternera, cocinado a la perfección (medio raro).Siempre tengo un bistec de 400 gm y media costilla de costillas a la barbacoa (sin papas ni ensalada, para que realmente disfrute la carne), servida con una salsa de pimienta.Otros tenían entre 200 y 500 g de filetes de lomo con una mezcla de salsas.Volveremos pronto.

Nos estábamos quedando en el área con amigos y estábamos muy contentos de haber ido a la parrilla King Billy una noche para comer. El ambiente era genial y había muchas otras personas comiendo, a pesar de que habíamos elegido ir bastante temprano en una noche de lunes a viernes. La decoración es relajada y cómoda y el servicio fue bueno. Todos tuvimos filetes que eran excelentes y cocinados exactamente como habíamos pedido. Un miembro de nuestro grupo es sudafricano y todos habíamos vivido allí durante un tiempo, por lo que fue un gran viaje por el camino de los recuerdos ver la salsa de la glándula del mono en el menú.

Me lo recomendó por donde nos quedamos, pero me fui decepcionado tristemente. Mi bistec estaba seco. Los aros de cebolla no eran crujientes y sin sabor. Las patatas fritas eran promedio. El puerto y el baño Stilton era muy sabroso, hay que decirlo. El personal no fue muy amable. Habiendo dicho todo esto, mi novio dijo que realmente disfrutó su bistec, así que 3 estrellas.

Good food and good service. We had a burger and a rump steak and would definitely come back. 2 for 1 on burgers on Tuesday and Thursday is a real bargain

Went to the king Billy grill for dinner and couldn't recommend it highly enough really good food possibly the best steak I've ever had, my step mother and her boyfriend were the same and my partner had the chicken with mushrooms and said it was sublime!

Had a lovely birthday night here, service was excellent and i had the best steak ever! Gordon the warden and I from baystone bank farm campsite will be back, our second meal there and both meals were fab

As a local and a holiday cottage owner, the King Billy is a real favourite. Had a meal there last night with visiting friends and the steaks were awesome. Some of us also tried the desserts. Not a normal occurrence due to the size of the portions but these were also really good. Overall the food is also good value too. Thoroughly recommend the King Billy. Also allows dogs and has a good value, tasty kids menu.

Third visit in as many weeks to this real find. Don t look any further for an unbelievable steak in a relaxing atmosphere. You won t have had a better steak !!

Came here after work for the takeaway burger and chips deal. We stayed for a pint whilst we were waiting. Good tasting beer in nice authentic settings.

The restaurant boasts that it serves "the best steak you'll ever taste" - a proud boast and one that I thought it couldn't possibly live up to. But it does and more than matches the boast! The rump steaks we both had were melt in the mouth - I hadn't expected such a quality taste from a rump. It was also presented well with 3 perfect freshly battered onion rings. Had whitebait for a starter which was delicious. Excellent salad - well dressed and beautifully presented. Each mouthful of the steak and whitebait was totally thrilling and had layers of flavours. Totally satisfied and totally happy to recommend this to anyone looking for a great meal out. You won't be disappointed.

We did have a very good experience here and definitely will go back again. My husband took me to King Billy just because I am a steak-lover. I ordered 750 gram rump steak and really enjoyed. The meat was just right (medium rare) and easy to chew, it broke my image of rump steak. We also had ribs and kid’s chicken breast which were all good. We arrived early and met the boss(chef), he was very kind and straightforward. Very easygoing person.

We always eat at the King Billy. The steaks are amazing. Although we also had chicken goujons the other night and they were ace as well. Barry's a great bloke (the chef). We love his homemade Cumberland as well which can be bought as a take out. 100% recommend.

Hearing all the good reviews on the steaks, decided to give this place a visit. No choice on the type of steak just what size you want to have. So if you are into massive steaks this may be the place to go. We both had the smallest and they were quite sufficient. One steak was very tough, the second mediocre. Sorry, not for us

Have a rally good Sunday lunch here today steak and gammon all cooked perfect only the chef brought us some home made sausage to try which my husband and daughter said it was to die for good value for money we will be heading back to the King Billy very soon

I went to King Billy on a family holiday in July 2019. The staff were very friendly, the service was quick and the food excellent.

We've been here a few times, and going again soon. The guy who owns it is South African and very welcoming and friendly. He cooks all the steaks to perfection, they also do brilliant racks of ribs, lovely sides and sauces., ( monkey gland sauce) sounds strange but is amazing! A good selection of sweets too. Booking is advisable at the weekend.

Only found this on our second to last day! Its clearly a locals pub/bar so don't expect to experience award winning customer interaction. The people were polite and in my opinion straight to the point. Which i liked. No BS here, they cook steak and one kind of steak because theyre good at it kind of place. These guys know what there doing. Do not order well done... honestly you don't need to, the steak i had didn't even need sauce it was cooked to perfection. Really liked the rustic feel to the whole place. Barman reminded me of John Snow. Well done guys

For my birthday we went to the King Billy. We were here when we were house hunting a few years ago so we wern't sure what it was going to be like......it was superb! My partner had the gammon and Cumberland sausage, he said it was the best gammon he had had in a long time. I had the vegetarian lasagne which was served with salad and a bowl of the best tasting chips ever! The meal was beautifully cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed it.........we definatly will be back!

We went to King Billy for the last meal out of our holiday. The menu was good. I ordered steak and my wife ordered chicken. You can order virtually any size steak you like! Good selection of sauces to have with the steak as well. We brought our dog, Toby. Toby made friends with the chef, he was very friendly and interested in Toby. He brought out some left over steak for Toby, certain to say today was Toby’s favourite day of the holiday!

We didn’t rate this meal highly at all, in fact in view of the ‘ reputation ‘ we expected it to be better. We also felt it was a bit overpriced for the quality of the meals we were served.

Called in without a booking as it was a last minute decision whilst up the coast and fancied the famous roast, but unfortunately we missed out they finished at 3. The place is a bit off the beaten track but every time we have dined it’s been faultless so worth the journey. Pondering the menu we decided the 200g burger with mushrooms in a sauce with bacon and the chicken with the mushrooms and bacon but today the offer was a free 200g burger with every burger purchased. Drinks ordered and seated our food arrived piping hot in record time the homemade burgers were well seasoned and very tasty and obviously only the best meat used and the same for my husbands meal his chicken was moist and very tasty, both were accompanied by a side salad and beautiful chunky home made chips. The meal was faultless. They have a excellent menu of ribs and steaks going up to 1.5kg and more in weight and some aren’t for the faint hearted. Also they have daily specials on the board and also a good selection of starters and deserts . The seating is very comfortable and the staff are very welcoming and accommodating. Lovely to see it keeping its good standards. Well worth a drive to, or our previous visits a train ride to Millom and a 2 mile taxi ride but booking is recommended as it gets very busy

We visit the King Billy every time we are in the area and have always had a great meal there. Lots of special offers on different evenings and `freebies' in the pudding department. Kids favourite always the burgers!

We always visit for a meal when in the area. The owner, Barry, makes everyone welcome and specialises in meats especially steaks and burgers. These are well cooked with a range of sauces accompanied by vegetables or salad and chips or potatoes. A good filling meal.

The King Billy was highly recemmended by a friend and we weren't disappointed. The food and service was excellent, in particular the jerk chicken. There was a good vibe to the place and we had a good few beers and laughs with the owner too. A great place to eat and socialise, and we will definitely visit again.

Literally the worst customer service I’ve ever received. The owner was rude and argumentative when we expressed unhappiness with the food/ customer service received and proceeded to shout at us and tell us not to pay, but then follow us to our house and knock on m disabled brothers bedroom window with a receipt in his hand. Not even just a bad restaurant experience but a possible harassment case about to unfold?

What a place this is, bit of a remote location, but don't be put off, the food is tremendous and extremely generous. The staff attentive and friendly. The gaffer came out and spoke to us and was very pleasant. Up there with the best I've had. Not to be missed.

I quite often come here, I’m always very pleased with my food, not ever having any problems. I must say the steak is absolutely incredible, one of the best I’ve ever had! The burgers are also lovely, just the perfect amount of thickness and so juicy. The staff are always so welcoming, and it’s always so cosy, ecspecially with there being 2 fires!

Best place I have eaten in a long time. 5 of us went all food piping hot and served together. Starters were brilliant but the steaks were next level 2 600g steaks were bought by people with eyes bigger than their bellies, one made it through the other had to hang his head in shame and accept a take away box. Brilliant service staff super helpful and friendly the chef came out personally to see if we were enjoying our meal. A big thing that I liked is that you got enough sauce so many times you order a sauce to go with your steak and it's never enough here it was more than enough. 5 sticky toffee puddings to finish came with 2 scoops of ice cream and again loads of sauce. Could not fault the food the staff or the place will be returning soon for sure.

My business colleague and I travel all over Lancashire, we eat in all sorts of places and we really appreciate a descent meal and good coffee, trust me it isn't easy to find good food, however The Kingbilly is different, thankfully.

Forgot to review our visit until now. I took my son for his 11th birthday with a few family members, to the King Billy for a steak. What can I say, they were amazing! Staff were friendly and helpful, food was delicious. Nearly all of us had steaks all cooked to perfection. Can't wait to go back.

Never have I ever been to a better steak restaurant than the King Billy. Absolutely lovely staff, one of them which I don’t know the name of was so bubbly and seemed like he really enjoyed his job. The manager, Barry, is lovely too. It’s nice that he takes his time to come and see his customers after the meal and wants to know how the meal is and how his customers are. 10/10!

Now I'm not a rump steak lover and told the chef this and he said he would put his rumps up against any cut of steak and match it. He smashed any other steak I have ever tasted out of the park it was delicious medium rare cooked to perfection homemade chips the whole experience was fantastic and so homely. It speaks volume when when all the locals use it young and old come to eat there. The South African guy sure knows how to cook a steak.i had the 600 gram which was just about right but if I'm ever down that way again I will try the 1kg or the 1.5kg it was that good. Wife had 300gm rump ( normally only eats sirloin) again cooked to perfection medium/well and mother in law the chicken in the sauce and said was gorgeous. Well worth a visit try yourself.

Me and my colleague were advised to check this place out while working up this way, and we were not disappointed. I personally had the 300grm steak with peppercorn sauce, and it was cooked to perfection, and was a great quality peice of steak. Would highly recommend trying this place if you ever visit this area.

We were recommended this place by the reception staff, we arrived at 7.45pm and put our order in, we had starters as well which was a truly bad idea as they were enormous but really tasty, then after working out the size of the steaks (as they were in grams etc) we tucked into the steaks, they were huge but so very tender and cooked to our liking the knife just went straight through like a knife in butter, at the end of the meal we had no room left for a dessert, all in all I can thoroughly recommend a meal here but book as they get extremely busy

I've just left king Billy with partner and 13 year old daughter. All three of us loved the food. Massive portions and superb taste. My partner has not had a decent meal on our trip so was overjoyed at the quality, he had chicken strips and the chicken schnitzel with sweet chilli cheese sauce (he wants me to find a recipe for that) daughter had same and she was happy too. I had garlic mushrooms and then a steak, oh the steak! Beautiful piece of meat cooked to perfection. I was very happy.

We had a chicken schnitzel and a steak which we loved, tasted amazing! The place is lovely and very welcoming, the staff were also lovely! Nice place to eat and drink, would defiantly return!

When we arrived it was very quiet with only 3 tables in, we asked for a table and we were asked if we had booked when we said we hadn't we were told they would have to check with the chef, this confused us as the place was empty. However we got a table. There are a few different options on the menu, I had battered chicken strips and my partner had white bait for starters. There wasn't much taste in the batter with the chicken but the texture was lovely, and the white bait wasn't fully breaded but we ate pretty much all of our starters. We read a few reviews about the burgers being the best people have ever had so it made sense to go for those plus they were BOGOF. I had the Canadian which is a bacon cheeseburger and my partner had the Australian which was with garlic mushroom.. we have no idea what the names had to do with the burgers though. The Canadian was ok, maybe bit too thick for my liking. My partner regretted his decision as it was drowned with a garlic sauce which he wasn't expecting, he was just expecting there to be some garlic flavoured mushrooms as there is no reference to the sauce on the menu. I definitely wouldn't describe them as the best burgers I've ever had, they were just alright. I left quite a bit of my main because I was quite full, the chef/owner came out, picked up my napkin which was on my plate and interrogated me on why I had left some, this left us feeling very uncomfortable. Probably wouldn't return and felt a little disappointed after it being recommended to us by a few people during our stay.

I’ve been Working away in an area I worked in a few years ago so I tried the pubs that were good at that time the bear in the square was a disappointment but hey king Billy’s pulled it back looks like it’s had a refurb but the star of the show was always the meat

We booked a table as there were 6 of us but it was very quiet when we arrived, only one table of diners. When we went to the bar to order drinks we were told that there was no beer on tap only bottles ! Had we known that we would have booked elsewhere. So we had wine instead. The steaks were very good, the chips overcooked, very brown and yet soggy ! The desserts were good, the sticky toffee pud was yummy. The soggy chips and having no beer on tap let it down badly.

Just returned home after having a family holiday based in Kirksanton. Just 1 minutes walk from our cottage was The King Billy so for us very convenient but that said we would of driven as it was recommended by the owner of the property we rented. In one week we went 3 times, as much as it was very close but also very good.

Went here last night with my wife and eldest son we all decided to have the steak, a great decision I started with the garlic mushrooms my wife and son did not want a starter however when the mushrooms arrived there was that many I asked them to help me out, then the steaks arrived WOW, how good was these, the star of the show, accompanied with great chips onion rings all home made, the taste and tenderness of the steaks was fantastic, will definitely be going back, my son who lives down the road in Haverigg as dined here before on a number of occasions it was a nice surprise to the end of our visit and I drove home very satisfied, a big thank you to all the staff a very pleasant lot.

We went to the King Billy last week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays the burgers are 241 so it works out at about a tenner for two meals. The portions were huge as always! Really good quality, the chips were homemade and so moreish! The chilli and cheese dip is absolutely lovely but you can easily share one between two. We will definitely come back for the burger deal. Good service and food was served promptly.

If you’re a meat lover, this is the place to eat as the meals are large, the food tastes great. Helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended. For the vegetarians and vegans, there’s a grass area outside

Despite living down the road for the last 3 years this is the 1st time we’ve visited here. Warm welcome as soon as we walked in and really nice interior.

Had a steak and ribs and my son had chicken schnitzel. It was all excellent. The steak and chicken especially. I'd really recommend you go. Easy decision.

What a great place! We had a couple of starters, a steak dinner and a burger and the food was amazing! Very much enjoyed the King Prawn Skewers and the Garlic Mushrooms... sauce was true and total deliciousness! Then the steak and burger, both great... Juicy, tender, and cooked just right! Very much worth the drive from Hampshire! Follow the chefs recommendation and you will not go wrong. Staff was attentive and friendly. The proprietor checked on us and was completely engaged. I wish all restaurants were this good.

wowsers what a meal .. we have been here a few times now and everytime it doesnt disappoint .. whether it be a steak night or a rack of ribs, you will leave not needing to eat for a week and thats mot even the belly buster that they do here.

One of the best places to get a truly fantastic steak. Went for the 600g on this visit - and was once again excellently cooked and served with tasty chips.

We had a family meal as the rest of the family had been raving about the place. Its very cosy. Nice fire. Steak nice. Not the cheapest of places but worth the price. Would recommend

the billy is a very welcoming place and as before (we hadnt been here for 4 years) the standard of food, service and value were excellent. the owner is also the chef and is very very good at what he does. there cant be anywhere else in this area that comes anywhere near the billy. we ate here twice on this trip, once 4 people and once 2 people, and both times all the plates went back to the kitchen so clean they wouldnt have needed to be washed up lol. we took our dog with us on both occasions with no problems, so all the family is catered for here.

My boyfriend and I are in the Lakes for a few days and the King Billy was recommended to us by a local b&b; owner after our 5 hour drive up here.

My family and i were in the lakes for a wedding and were advised to come here, we did and oh boy was it worth it, i ordered the 600g rump and i can honestly say I've never tasted anything like it, all the steaks are hung for a minimum of 3 months and you can taste the difference, my wife and daughter ordered the canadian burger and they both polished it off, we are going back up there for a weekend soon and i'll be back to king billy for another steak.... can't wait

We visited on recommendation and weren't disappointed. Lovely food, friendly service, average pricing and a nice atmosphere. Parking right outside the door. Would definitely eat here again if in the area.

This restaurant specialises in rump steak primarily, various weights upto the mighty 2kg (pre-order only) and all are matured and trimmed to perfection. We visit this restaurant a few times a year and if you're in the area and like a good steak it is definitely worth making a booking. Kids meals are also available and other chicken and burger dishes for the non steak lovers. Booking in advance is recommended as this place always seems very busy.

A Beef specialist, King Billy's is known for it's fantastic steaks & burgers. Also fantastic, the onion rings (by far the best I have ever eaten); the sweet potato fries are delish; the salad is fresh; the regular chips are lovely too. You can choose the size of your steak, 300g is ideal size for me, but they go up to 2kilo's by special order! I am a steak snob, so was prepared for disappointment - but HEY! The steak was absolutely top-notch - beautifully cooked, perfectly tender - as good as a fillet for tenderness (they serve rump steak & it was really excellent). My son had a burger, which he declared excellent - it looked good too! You need to phone & book a table, this place is popular, even though way out in the wilds of Millom/Silecroft area. The whole family were extremely impressed & we will go again - strongly recommended for steak lovers!
