Our first trip to Leyburn ruined by this cafe experience. Went with my you family. You need a pin to go the dingy toilet, there are signs everywhere telling you not to do something, it says it’s dog friendly but it definitely is not children friendly, the menu is overpriced, the staff are rude, it is called a cafe and does not act as a cafe, the old male waiter needs to be let go as he makes unkind comments that make you feel uncomfortable. I only stayed as we were very hungry, but really should’ve walked out and got a meal deal from the co-op. I will not be returning and urge all to not bother in the first place. I am surprised that it is even open.

Came to eat here today. Positives: The food was nice. The gentleman who was front of house was efficient and friendly. Negatives: Unfortunately when the female chef came down to give us our drinks she abruptly scalded at my daughter who is 7 and said “Don’t put your feet on the chair it’s material” My daughter was sat properly with her feet on the floor, it was a totally uncalled for comment. I was speechless at her abruptness and judging of my daughter. My daughter felt embarrassed at been judged and spoken to horribly and cried. Throughout our stay at Leyburn my daughter has had so many compliments on her manners and behaviour at other establishments. She has been raised to be respectful and have good table manners. This incident was totally uncalled for. The laughable part of it the chairs she was very precious over were filthy, the cafe on a whole is very dated. She also messed up our drinks order and left one person without a meal, again she was adamant we hadn’t ordered this until the gentleman serving told her we had and she’d missed it off. No apologies from her about this. Unfortunately running a cafe requires you to serve families, families have children. Maybe you’re in the wrong business. It would be respected if you were honourable enough to respond with an apology to my daughter.

Absolutely Delicious Food! Nice place but a tad cool - the host is somewhat quirky and there may be a wait - but so worth it. Delicious home made food. Yum yum for your tum.

Food was gorgeous. Very busy so took a while to come but both meals were really lovely. Would definitely eat here again. I had the chilli con jacket potato and my wife had Cumberland sausages and mash.

Freezing cold, no heating on. Freezing cold reception from owner. Painfully slow service. We left without ordering. What a dump. The owner needs to go to charm school. He's rude and miserable. Avoid at all costs.

Tried this lovely pub for the first time earlier this week with friends for an evening meal off the weekday menu. I had Scampi which was wholetail, light batter , served with the best chips I’ve had in ages . Others had chicken and burger, all were beautifully cooked and quality ingredients. Eaton Mess was spot on and the sticky toffee and custard had us drooling ! The atmosphere was what you’d want in a lovely cosy country inn, the owners were very friendly, service friendly and quick without feeling rushed. They also accommodated our 2 large dogs offering a nice treat and water. We loved it that much we’ve just returned from Sunday lunch !! Prawn cocktail starters were excellent, more prawn than salad 👍, soup, black pudding and bacon , all served with a warm crusty roll, all were very good. 3 of us had roast beef dinners and one roast pork - the veg was cooked perfectly, as were the mash and roast potatoes. Yorkshire pudding were just right. None of us could find space for a pudding but the menu has something for everyone. We shall most definitely return again.

We had a meal here yesterday. The service was friendly and excellent. The food was below average. Frozen chips. Bought in pies which were heated so much the pastry was solid. Fish seemed frozen or old, not freshly battered. King prawn starters roasting hot but tasted like frozen ones. PLEASE MAKE YOUR OWN CHIPS. Please make your own pastry pies. Freshly batter your fresh cod. Take PRIDE in your dinners and watch the takings rocket. Such a beautiful pub, historical and quaint.

Booked a family meal for my dad's birthday at Akebar. The Sunday lunch was fantastic. Great portion sizes, lovely friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back

Booked in during a family trip away and was incredibly disappointed. All roast dinners were swimming in thick flavourless gravy. The trio of yorkshires were essentially a soup. I’m unsure where they buy the gammon from as it tasted off? We all played a game of fish for our dinner. I cannot even describe how much gravy was on the plates. The potatoes and yorkshires tasted like they’d been pulled out of a deep fryer? We then asked for a dessert menu just to see the options, to which the waitress had to hand write it and proceeded to slap it down and walk off….only to never return. Maybe the chef was off. But I absolutely would not recommend this place for a Sunday roast.
