Killin fish & chip van in Stirling

Great tasty & freshly cooked chips to go with our dinner at the local caravan site, good portion sizes. Very friendly service, thank you.

Got portion of chips, please be aware the chips are from frozen packets not the traditional chips you would expect from a chip shop. Just save your money for 4 pound. Pop to the local co-op get some from their 👎

Visited while staying at local caravan site, and it has been the best meal we’ve ever had from a food van. From the outside, it doesn’t necessarily look enticing, an old van tucked way down the side of the town hall, but it is well worth the visit. Portion sizes are genuinely good value for money, food is cooked fresh to order and well cooked. The chips were not greasy, the fish was huge and cooked to perfection. Chicken nuggets were good and generous portion size. We will be going back for our last supper.

My family visited Killen for the weekend, we tried this chip van. Never judge a book by its cover is my motto, but sorry to be harsh but I wish in this case I had. The van looks very run down and I wasn't overly impressed with the hygiene I saw. The chips were absolutely horrible, tasted frozen and not cooked all the way, I literally ate 3 and decided that was enough. The fish was also really bland, the batter tasted under cooked on the inside and the fish again tasted frozen and to be completely honest close to not edible. The young man taking the orders was really polite, that's about as much credit as I can give unfortunately. Maybe they just had a bad night, unfortunately for me it was that poor I wouldn't give it a second chance when we return to Killen. I don't like giving small businesses such a bad review but unfortunately it's the truth about my experience.

Sunday evening fish and chips were brilliant. Staff were great. Fish and chips better than competing restaurants/pubs in my opinion and my 2 companions.

Tried to eat at every restaurant in town - all were'fully booked' (although many looked almost empty. I can only assume they didn't have the staff to be able to cater to their full capacities). Stumbled upon this chip van on the way back to our B&B (the truly excellent Dall Lodge next door). No haggis or curry sauce left, which can only mean they're very popular; understandable, as the fish, sausage and chips we had were truly lovely. A ten minute wait as they were freshly cooked, then asked if we wanted salt, vinegar and sauce before they were wrapped. Down to the river back to eat them by the banks... Delicious! Fresh, flaky fish - and plenty of it! Lovely crispy batter (and with all fish from a takeaway, you have to unwrap it quite quickly or it will go soggy. Bear that in mind when you read reviews moaning about soggy batter when they've carried them around for 20 minutes 🙄). Fluffy chips, just the right amount. All in all: excellent. And a boon to a town where they don't necessarily have the infrastructure to deal with the number of visitors they sometimes get; there were a few other people in the queue for the van with the same story: the other local restaurants had let them down or turned them away. Opening hours when we went: Mon/Tue closed Wed/Thu and Sun 5-8 Fri/Sat 5-8:30

Found this treasure when out for a stroll two excellent, large fish suppers very reasonably priced and great service thrown in. Highly recommended

Great value - food cooked fresh on demand. Excellent quality and very good value - would highly recommend. Take an umbrella if raining as you will have a short wait for the food and there isn’t any shelter close by.

Friendly ladies. Chips were fine. The fish was truly awful, uncooked batter, we hardly ate any of it, what we did eat had bones! If we hadn’t taken our food back to our holiday home (5 minutes) it would have been taken back. Not a pleasant end to our holiday in Killin.

We saw this van when we arrived and decided to give it a try. The two ladies who man the van were friendly and chatted away while we waited on our order being fried. The portions were large and the chips were cooked perfectly and dry. Would certainly recommend the van to visitors

We decided to have a night in at our lodge and fancied some chips as a snack. We remembered we had seen the chip van parked down the road so the men were dispatched to get some. Decided to get a takeaway after reading reviews. Totally and utterly disappointed. I had a haggis supper. The haggis was good and spicy but was cut in half and so nearly all batter. But I managed to scrape some haggis out. The chips were dry and not particularly nice. My partner had King Rib .... it was so burnt that it was totally inedible. The batter on the King Rib was black at the ends and in the middle and the King Rib was shrunken and burnt. The whole taste was of burnt batter. It was horrible and got thrown in the bin. Yes ..... the portion of chips was huge and the people serving were so lovely and friendly. But after horrible and inedible we will not be going back.

Rather than cooking we were told about the chip van .We went along and the food was cooked freshly but unfortunately it takes a while .There is 2 ladies that run it and really friendly .Good value for money , just don't take the kids along as they will crack you up , is it ready yet lol .Good to see a traditional chip van running today .

Great for a hot meal take away if camping or glamping, portions are big and a truly traditional chipper van that is slowly dying away now,worth a visit.

Would use this chip van regularly but last time was the last Diarrhoea and sickness for several days also had problems a few years ago,I definitely would not recommend.

Make sure you hungry before you visit, massive portions, good quality and very reasonably priced. The 2 ladies that run the van were very friendly and a big shoutout to the gentleman who gave our little dog some dog treats. Very nice visit.

Be hungry the portion is massive and cooked to order very good, nice people to had a lovely chat with the older lady whilst I waited, doesn't look much from outside put try it you wont be disappointed

Staying overnight in Killin and decided to have supper from the chip van. Single and king rib supper we had and it was the freshest and tastiest chippy we have eaten. The staff are very friendly so funny and entertaining. Will definitely be back to eat here again. 10/10

Visited early April 2019. We are regular visitors to Killin and have used the chip van on many occasions. We were one of the first customers the day we visited and it was a delight to watch fish being fried the way it should be...no more than 4 minutes and it was perfect! We are just back from Anstruther and had fish and chips from a very famous chip shop and I am pleased to say it was no better than Killin! Well done guys

We'd clocked this chippy for a hearty supper after a fairly strenuous walk, and it fit the bill nicely. The fish and the chips were both delish. Will be back!

Open 5 till 9 six nights a week. Old style airstream conversion which is quirky. Food is good and reasonably priced with good portions.

Just had a week in Killin and we decided to try this fish van after reading all the reviews, and yes the fish was lovely and fresh and very tasty, BUT although the batter was mostly cooked on the fish, both my husband and myself had one end of our fish were the batter was undercooked and soggy. The chips though plentiful were OK a little under done for our taste. Overall quite nice, but we have had better .

While we were on holiday here we decided to have fish & chips one night. The 'old' fish & chip van is located in a car park in Killin, opening Thursday to Sunday early evenings, I would expect this would reduce as the holiday season...

Results are variable. Had a great fish supper with real chips first time then was disappointed with the frozen chips next time kind of put us off using them. But that's just our personal taste. Always worth a try.

From a rather worn out old van ( well more of a caravan really) comes excellent and very generous portions of Fish and Chips. Run that night by mother and son (whose banter itself was most entertaining) comes piping hot and generous portions of tasty...

Having read the previous reviews and also had a family member recommendation and being hungry we decided to try the fish and chip van. We carried our two fish and chips out and eat them in our campervan parked nearby. A bit greasy for our liking, fish was tasty and we did think the chips may have been frozen but we cannot confirm this. Like the title says, just average.

We had the pleasure of having food from here. The lady was very friendly and when realised I was vegetarian was quick to mention the she used beef fat which I though was really nice. Service was really quick and food delicious would def recommend a visit here .

Fish n chips were cooked in a funny tasting oil. If they used another type of oil it would have been excellent.

We stopped here on the way to watch a sunset and got Fish and Chips and Burger and Chips. Have to stay my fish was over cooked and deep fried burgers scare me but they tasted good. Would use again in an emergency.

I own The Capercaillie Restaurant in Killin and therefore can have any food I want at any time, I do however have a weekly treat at The Chip van. The food, service and value for money is the best. Last week I went down and the place was heaving. Half the village was there for food as well as tourists and Roisin and Alehya who are just young girls coped amazingly well. They kept there cool, were polite and efficient and all this when Roisin's fryers kept cutting out. They are a credit to this village, Cathy and Annette have taught them well. Thank you girls.

Well, the fish and chip van isn't much to look at but the food the ladies produce is excellent , certainly would rank as the best takeaway fish and chips we've had. The fish is cooked to order and there is the choice of large or small portions of chips, my husband ordered small... the portions were huge and the chips were lovely and crisp on the outside. The batter was really tasty and crisp and the fish was nicely cooked. The price for fish and chips was £4.70, much cheaper than our local chippie and considerably better. Really pleasant ladies too. I hope they will be open at Easter on our next visit to the area, we will definitely be coming back for more.

Treated ourselves to fish and chips from this wee van on the last night of our stay in Killin. The food was delicious, tasty fish and lovely crispy batter. The chips were awesome, some of the best we have ever tasted! The portions were generous too. We all really enjoyed our food. Well worth a visit.

I have always had a good meal form the friendly ladies who work in van. The van itself doesn't look much but don't let that put you off. I had haggis and I got a very generous portion of chips and two large portions of haggis. The only reason it's not got five stars is my husband wasn't as keen on the fish but I didn't try it so I'm taking his word for it. He said it was not enough fish and too much batter. Will be going again as the haggis supper was £4.50 a bargain!

Great chips served by a lovely couple of ladies in the van and obviously an institution for the local residents who were very friendly and chatty. There was a very friendly atmosphere while people were waiting for their orders to be freshly cooked. Worth a visit for a change to restaurant food.

Quirky little van parked in a car park looking a little worn but don't let the initial impression deceive you. These ladies know how to cook their chips! Went for a family takeout so had a few orders and expected a good wait however, the gorgeous scenery around the van kept us occupied making the time fly past. 15 minutes later and we had our food. Very generous portions, excellent value for money and I can only urge you to try the deep fried pizza and chips. We hadn't realised the pizza was deep fried when it was ordered but were very pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Not greasy at all and very tasty. Would highly recommend you include The Van for a meal during your stay in Killin. Well worth it!
