The bento bow was a highlight with high quality flavours and well portioned. The salad that they offer to start with was poorly cut with too much dressing. The fruit salad offered as a desert was equally badly cut. The service wasn’t bad but was inattentive for this price point. They forgot my tea twice and also forgot to bring me soya sauce. They also made no effort to explain any of the food they were serving me. The reality is there are joints in soho offering something better for half the price so they ought to give more attention to the details.

It’s quite delusional to see a Japanese restaurant in its decline. 📉 everything seems so good until we saw the food. We couldn’t eat some of our orders. The sushi was quite mediocre. I hope that the restaurant comes back to life again!

Hi, if you understand Japanese food, customer service, cleanliness and authenticity then this restaurant has it in abundance. My wife and I have be coming here for more than 15 years and everytime we come back we still say it's the best. The owners and all of the staff are Japanese which is now rare but for me important for the whole experience. They have a dedicated sushi counter which is of extreme quality. Last but not least is a mention to the owners who are there most days if not all and for me again it's rare but very much appreciated.

Incredible. This is the most authentic Japanese food I’ve tried outside of Japan, and the quality is just outstanding. Very reasonably priced, too: we paid around £100 for a starter, a very large amazing sushi platter (probably 20 pieces), a desert and two drinks. I love that here you pay for the food and you get real value for your money, not those fake plastic pink “trees” and other instagramable nonsense as in so many other places.

Amazing Japanese restaurant in the heart of Mayfair. Very friendly and welcoming with attentive and helpful staff. Regular seating on the ground floor but also sushi counter seating on the first floor/ mezzanine area. Eating at the counter is an experience and the chefs work with you at your own pace, guiding you through the menu. A place for a special occasion, but well worth it and highly memorable!

We had a nice dinner at Kiku. The service is very watchful (maybe a bit too much), we didn't expect so many waitresses would be around. There is a large choice on the menu, however we found the meals were overpriced. Our teriyaki chicken and salmon were good but the portions were not very generous and no rice on the side. A beansprout starter salad is offered, as well as an end-of-meal tea. Nice and comfortable setting.

First time there and surprised with the variety of the menu in terms of dishes. The California roll though was the big surprise using low grade/quality surimi sticks which were chewy and flavourless. The soft-shell crab roll and shrimp tempura roll were not the best I’ve had. The restaurant offers a lovely grilled salmon belly dish which was on the seasonal special and a butter soft black cod with no glazing and minor seasoning which was a remarkable elevation of the taste (uncommon to Japanese restaurants, a lot of fish bones came in too, watch out!!) The sashimi and nigiri we ordered had still skin on it and didn’t taste the freshest I’ve ever had.

Hands down the best Japanese food in London. I’ve been coming here for 20 years and the quality of the food is out of this world. The sushi is so fresh it melts in your mouth. The staff are also lovely. One star lost due to the utilitarian, very un-romantic ambience. If it were a bit more atmospheric I’d come here for dinner dates more often, but this is a minor quibble. Regarding the price, you get what you pay for and it’s worth every penny. Thank you Kiku!

Two things good about Kiku: 1. The food is authentic Japanese 2. Quality of the ingredients is definitely top notch. You can tell they use the freshest ingredients. A few complaints that lead me to give a 3-star in the order of importance: 1. The dashi is not good. Dashi is the foundation of most Japanese dishes. Unfortunately the Kiku’s dashi is rather underwhelming. It really lacks flavour and umami. What makes it worse is that the seasoning overall is lacking. Most of the food tastes quite bland. I know Japanese food seasoning is usually on the lighter side but Kiku is definitely doing too little. This, together with the weak dashi makes it a bit disappointing. 2. The ventilation is not the best. You are welcomed by a rather strong fishy and oily smell walking in. After lunch, your coats and jackets will definitely carry that smell for a couple of hours if not days. 3. For the same price during lunch hours, you get a few restaurants that offer significantly better tasting food in Mayfair. Is it a good Japanese restaurant? Yes it is. Am I going to go back again? Highly unlikely.

I had heard of Kiku in Kinosaki, Japan. There is a very nice ryokan called Mikuniya that is the source of Kiku. A true family business. And as the food in Mikuniya never fails to amaze me my expectations were high. The restaurant is a prime example of Japanese simplicity. The attention given is Japanese as well. More formal than jovial. I took the Edo tasting menu. Subtle all over, focussing on the character of the ingredients rather than adding to that. I realised that this needed a mindset of its own. It might disappoint people that the beautiful broth that is offered at the beginning is not deeply flavoured but develops as you appreciate it. Like good wine. And so it goes on, to my great delight. This was a meal that makes one a very happy customer. Recommended for those who want to appreciate the preciseness of the traditional Japanese cuisine.

We had no complaints in the last 10 plus years and we have been there hundreds of times. All our families and friends like the restaurant too. Had the mixed tempura set menu. The daishi tipping sauce was tasteless, wasn't worth what we paid for. The beef teriyaki was overcooked. I went with my Japanese parent-in-law and Japanese wife and they all felt the food was underwhelming. The Kiku branch in Tokyo is significantly better. It's fair to say that with the overwhelming no. Of Chinese tourists visiting this branch, they don't have to try very hard to maintain quality to attract custom. I had better beef from Yoshinoda.

Lovely Japanese restaurant serving traditional Japanese food including sushi and teishoku. I was glad I had reserved a table as the restaurant remained pretty full throughout the lunch period (I got there at 1.30 and it didn't start to quieten down until near the end of lunch service, so I can only imagine it was as busy if not busier earlier on). I ordered the una-jyu set lunch, and some ume-shiso maki. The una-jyu set lnch comes with a small salad with sesame dressing, a small bowl of pickles (mine was beansprouts and carrots with black sesame seeds), miso soup, a grilled eel donburi, and green tea and fresh fruit for dessert (an orange wedge and some red grapes). The food was delicious, and the waiters and waitresses were very attentive. Despite the waitress explaining to me that my maki rolls might take a while due to the sushi kitchen getting a lot of orders, I noticed no delay whatsoever in getting the rolls, which came out at the same time as my eel donburi. Wonderful food and service, would definitely visit again when in London.

With that level of prices I really expect something more than that quality of food and service. I am a bit disappointed as the food is just same quality of the meals in fair prices restaurants in Japan (Tokyo/Kyoto). But they charged a lot higher here (London). Also, they are so rush and sent me the bill before I asked of it. It was just a bit more than an hour to finish the lunch and we actually intend to chat for a little while to drink the tea we ordered. Really, it is the first time in UK to be sent a bill like this. No, they won't do it even in any decent restaurants either in UK or Japan. (Usually I am the one in hurry and chased for the bill.) The same experience I can only find in HK that the restaurant owner said they intend to have 4 rounds of customers in one night for the same table, so there is usually a 1.5 hour limit for meal time (but they sent you away once you finished the food even it is only 45 mins after you started). But no they mentioned nothing of the kind when I booked the table for the Birthday lunch so I really won't expect the time limit. Not impressive by both the food and the service so I don't think I will be visiting again. (Maybe I am mistaken and £30 per person for lunch can only be considered eating cheap and fast food in London Mayfair/Soho restaurant? Then, sorry, my fault.)

Low quality food. Not worth the money at all. Spent £180 for two ppl, got really lean and thick meat with zero fat, while in authentic Sukiyaki you should get really thin slices of meat with good amount of fat so it tastes tender and juicy. Their meat is completely the opposite. Sashimi and Sushi not fresh enough and not worth the price either. Rating in Google Map is really misleading. This is a very good value vegan all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant serving at least 35 different dishes to choose from when I visited for lunch on a Wednesday. The choice is excellent with a variety of hot and cold dishes including gyoza, tofu, noodles and a lot of soya based fake meat. The dishes vary but overall the quality of the food is very good - not overly salty, oily or too spicy and with some good quality ingredients, especially in the cold salad bar. The serving dishes were heated and covered with a temperature indicator so they could be sure the contents stayed warm. The restaurant is basic but very clean with nice toilets and friendly staff. One big plus is that the food is prepared just behind the serving bar so you can see EVERYTHING in the kitchen. Not many places can boast this, and it goes to show how confident they are about their hygiene. The jewel in the crown is that you get all-you-can-eat for just £9.90 for lunch – which is a spectacularly good deal. They could easily charge £15 and it would still be an absolute bargain. Even the drinks are reasonable: water, coke, tea, etc for just £2 and beer and wine for £4 per glass. For central London this is very cheap indeed and you couldn’t get much cheaper from a bargain supermarket. This place really deserves 5 stars all round and I hope word gets about and they stay in business as I intend to visit again the next time I am in London.

Had relatively high hopes walking in, service was good and also prices for the dim sum dishes were fine. Ordered like 4 or 5 dim sum options for around 7£ each, I was thinking I may come here more often. Then the waiter was like do you want any vegetables and I was like yeah, some bok choi would be great please. So the food came and the rice Congee was good, the Bok Choi was good, the waiters were good, but the dumplings were quite average, below average and same as the beef Cheung, which was kind of supposed to be the highlight. I’ve dined at 1000+ Chinese restaurants and had dim sum all my life. This was below average apart from the rice and vegetables. At this point I was like this an ok restaurant, not sure if I’ll come again but it’s like alright… so the bill came and it was more than I expected, the other dishes were all 7£ but the bok choi was 20£. I asked if there was a manager around and he was like I am the manager. And I was like? Why did you give me the most expensive vegetable, I told him I saw bok choi for 7£ on another menu and he was like, that’s for the raw bok choi, we gave you the cooked one. And I was like well I was looking for just a cheap side of vegetables, some notice would’ve been nice, you mind taking off 10£? And he was just like na. And I was a bit like ok I’ll pay but it’s not great business. He was like I don’t mind at all, gave me very I don’t care vibes, just want that extra 10£. I was like you know I was interested in coming here possibly more often, I’m on Baker St a lot, I live around the area, this is just bad business and I’m looking for a good place for the occasional dim sum. And he was just like ‘I don’t care’. Was a bit strange, I said I wouldn’t write a great review and would’ve loved to come more often if he’d just been a bit more honest with the vegetable pricing, but the manager was very like, I don’t need you to be happy to make this business successful, so best of luck to him, I will be looking for other good Chinese restaurants.

Where to start? 1. Really rude on the phone 2. When we called we asked for a booking for the bottomless dim sum deal which they made. arrived there and were told they didn’t do it anymore… even though they’d booked us for it the day before 3. Prices were different on the bill to what they were in the menu, ended up at £80 for like 5 things 4. 4£ for a cup of green tea, expected a pot or tea leaves. It arrived and it’s literally just a mug and teabag. That’s fine! But not for £4 5. We ordered the vegetarian dumpling platter. When served they repeated that they were vegetarian, despite obviously being prawn. when we checked with another waiter he accepted they were prawn. 6. All the dumplings on the mixed platter tasted the same, and was £18 for like 6. Genuinely couldn’t tell if they’d either given us 6 of the same or if the fillings were just all bland. 7. We ordered vegetation Dan Dan noodles, when they arrived they told us again they were vegetarian with mock meat. Should have known after the dumplings but didn’t believe they’d serve us meat twice after we’d already complained... We only found out the fake mock meat was actually pork from the bill! 8 Photos of Chairman Mao all over the walls downstairs???, just a bit weird! Avoid
