Kayra Mediterranean Restaurant & Meze Bar in Central Bedfordshire

This place is utterly horrible. This stupid manager is horrible, mean, and greedy for money. The way you replied to my sister and other people. (In mean sarcastic ways looks like you act like this right in front of your customers. The food was very salty, soggy and burnt. To the manager: Have manners. Treat you customers in a fair kind way. Watch videos on YouTube or take courses on how to treat your customers. My nieces and children went home hungry and I work so I couldn't make anything for them to eat. You also lighted with me in front of my children and nieces, how dare you.

My husband and I visited mid week and had a lovely meal. Service was very friendly, and we really enjoyed our meal.

This is our 3rd visit to this restaurant in 2 years. Each time we have vowed not to return but last night we decided after hearing there was new management we would try again. We ordered main courses and wine. Bread arrived with a dip as a "free" starter. The waitress cleared our plates after pointing out that we had been given this FREE. Main courses arrived. My husband's dish was small compared with competitor restaurants in the same town. My meal was accompanied with McCain oven fries undercooked. When I complained I was told by the waitress that it wasn't her fault she was just a waitress. I was given the bill inclusive of the food I had complained about. I asked for the manager. The same waitress appeared telling me she was in charge! I again told her my reasons for my reluctance to pay 18 pounds for a dish served with oven chips out of the freezer. She told me I was rude! Overall it was disgusting service and customer care and we will NEVER give this place another chance. Do not waste your money. Go to Mevan where the food and service is impeccable.

Welcoming staff, excellent service, succulent dishes - nothing to fault! Even a complimentary bottle of wine to takeaway. Attractive decor, although a few less hard surfaces would help to absorb some of the non-negligeable, ambient noise level. This address is a real find!

Wanting a pleasant midweek night out we punted for Kayra as a pleasant change. Wow, great value. Good service and far too much eat (so much we took some home). We have done Turkish before and this is spot on. We commend the sharing platter... it is definitely for three (not two).

Friendly informative staff with great sense of humour. Food was tasty, hot, and beautifully presented. Hot sharing platter was full of different flavours, didnt know I liked haloumi but it was great. My sea bass was very large and cooked just right. My three previous visits were good experiences too, best lamb chops, a little noisy on a Friday night but it adds to the character of the place. Try it!

We ate there for the first time on Thursday evening and we simply cannot fault it. The staff are absolutely lovely, friendly and welcoming, the service was really good. As for the food, it was just beautiful and so much of it. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and I hope this business stays in our town for a long time to come.

Delicious food, friendly, welcoming staff, great atmosphere. One of the best Turkish meals I've eaten and I live in Turkey!

A group of us thought we would give this place a visit. We were lucky to have a table upstairs with a lovely view over the High Street. Staff were friendly and helpful, when it came to chosing from the menu our waiter was very helpful with suggestions. One of our party preferred cocktails, dont think they were normally on the menu selection....but our waiter again was very helpful in providing a choice selection.A couple of other tables upstairs had b'days, so each time they bought out the cake the music would be turned up...a little loud sometimes but still enjoyed the evening. If you enjoy mediteranian food we would recommend you give this place a go. Lovely staff, great service and good food.

Ourselves and another couple went here 2 weeks ago for a meal and I was really disappointed, all the bad things about out visit were...We were sitting by the front door which had one of the strangest features I have ever seen, it could only be described as an air-lock in a spaceship from a sci-fi movie by virtue of the fact that people were wrestling with door to get in and out and when they thought that they would walk through the door it would suck closed making a loud vacuum noise, all this was great fun watching people struggle but we were blasted with cold air every time which was not so fun.I paid £6 for 3 prawns for my starter, £2 per prawn! I’m pretty sure not even Rick Stein charges that.My wife had lamb and eggplant for her main (I’m not sure of the name) but one would assume that it would be something resembling a Moussaka but in fact for £15 it was some “mush” smeared on a plate with a few of chunks of Lamb chucked on top, we expected more for £15.00.Bizarre that there were no carbs on the menu, great if you’re Joe Wicks but not great if you were thinking you’d be eating either Rice, Chips or pitta bread, all pretty common place and found in every other Turkish restaurant I have ever visited.The BBQ onion was also a disaster, basically what looked like a raw onion swimming in pomegranate juice, in fact everything seemed to swimming in the stuff, it was on all of the salads also.Worth mentioning was one of the guys that served us had terrible musty bodily odour, that is just unacceptable.4 people eating with a few drinks was the best bit of £170.00, so terrible value for money in my opinion and I’m afraid we won’t be visiting again.

We were originally going to the Wetherspoons place in Leighton Buzzard but they had no steak, so we left. i am glad we did! We both had the rib eye steak here and it was excellent. Excellent steak excellently cooked. The service was very good also and the place and a lovely ambiance with relaxing music. We will definitely be back.

Visited a few months ago with my friend (that visit was great) so I returned with my husband. Service was fairly slow - which is excusable I guess as they were busy. But the food was awful - so much so I felt embarrassed that I recommended this to my husband.

We decided to try this restaurant after really good reports from our friends and we we're not disappointed.

Given the lousy weather, we went for a short-notice Wedding Anniversary lunch (no forgetting 3, 3, 73 @ 3!) instead of braving evening weather. Warm welcome, excellent liver starters, followed by tasty chicken shish and my lamb shish - Turkish red was a new experience which I may not repeat......palatable, but that was my gamble! Not a dessert lover myself, but gratis baklava and ice cream for Commander in Chief was well-received too. All in all, a very good lunch service.

We were all seated pretty quickly for a group of 10 upstairs. It was a very busy evening being a Saturday too. All the tables seem to be celebrating a birthday!

the food is good, menus offers good selection of cold starters, hot starters.mains also have goos selections.they even have selection of wines .we all like the lemon and mint water on the house. service very polite, price very reasonable

We ate here to celebrate a birthday, there were 4 of us and we had booked in advance.We were shown to a table which was in sight of the kitchen and given a menu and wine list,The wine we chose was not brought instead the waiter brought and opened a Turkish wine which I refused - he then said the wine we ordered wasn't as good and we could have the one he brought at the same price . The food was fine I had seabream and enjoyed it , my wife had something from the oven which looked like a pizza and the base was very doughy. Overall the food was fine but the atmosphere was somewhat marred by the pushy waiter .

I thought the food was ok and there was plenty on my plate. Unfortunately the service wasn’t very good. However, the food was reasonably priced.

Our visit got off to a bad start with being told there was not a booking in our name even though one of our party was with the person who booked it at the time, Eventualy they found the booking which they had under the name of Michael for 830 instead of Michelle for 730. The food and service was good but was let down by our waiter having a bad BO problem which was noticed by all 7 of us.!! Then towards the end of the evening for some inexplicable reason the front door was opened which allowed the rather cold air blast through the restaurant which caused some people to put their coats on.

A lovely new addition to the town. They are Turkish bit bill themselves as Mediterranean. The food and service is really good there. The other Turkish in town is Mevan which is also great but I think for lamb cutlets Kayra is tops!

Went for lunch. All the oven dishes were not available no pides etc as oven was not working which did not help. The restaurant was cold with the back door open and you could smell the waft of smoke coming in from workers smoking outside the back door. The calamari starter was average. We had a kebab which came with small salad and then we had dessert. It was not as good as the Mevan just nearby and not somewhere we will return to. A real shame as we had high hopes for this restaurant

We had a 2 course lunch for £9.99. Nice appetising food in a location that us to be a pawn shop and has been well converted well presented, friendly staff

Our first time eating here, went with friends who had eaten there before. Lovely surroundings, food was nice but very pricey for the portion size. My husband had scallops to start and got 4 small scallops for £5.50! My main of chicken shish came with a small salad, sides were at extra cost. Our total bill for a portion of olives, three starters, four mains, a bottle of wine, three coffees and a beer was £112 including a 10 % service charge. They only took cash and phoned my friend earlier that day to let her know that. All in all for the cost I don't think I will be revisiting as I have had better food elsewhere.

We visited here on Saturday 9 th December. We arrived to a friendly greeting, but had a table opposite the door, which appeared to be squashed in. I asked if we could move as cold and they did so immediately. Service was good, if only a little rushed. I felt we had just sat down and they wanted our order. We had a starter which was mainly bread and a selection of dips, not sure I would order this again next time as was 13 pounds. For main I had chicken shish and husband had chicken on a bread base, both were delicious, but expensive for the portion sizes. I have seen some people have commented about service, but I feel they need to be a bit slower as we like to eat slowly and take time over a meal. Food was hot and fresh though and staff were friendly. I would visit again but would probably try different dishes. I would also recommend when booking to be asked to sit near back of restaurant.

Had a regular catch up with my Bestie and decided to try the new Kayra. Atmosphere and decor was great.We both had Lamb Kebab and it was perfect. Service was very attentive but not overwhelming. There was plenty to choose from on the menu although the Tapas did not appeal to me as the majority of it was seafood and I am not a fan of that. We also got a free desert to share to try - which was lush! We will definitely visit there again.

We were here mid week while it was busy it was only about 2/3rds full. The service was good and the food was beautiful. All home cooked and really tasty.

Popped in last night as we couldn’t get in our original first choice of restaurant. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We let the waiter suggest our ‘mixed cold starter’ and they were tasty. The mains consisted of shish, fish and vegetarian. Vegetarian was really nice but we were full from our starter, but we kept going. We had a ‘mixed 3’ desserts and a separate ‘rice’ dessert, all were good. The service was good and we didn’t wait long. Approx cost £140 for 4 with drinks. The only negative point was we were sat opposite the door and as it was cold, so we kept getting a cold burst of air (mainly as it was so busy). We mentioned it when we paid and there is a problem with the door. However, we will go back

We visited on a Sunday when the rail workers were on strike, I personally did not care too much until i was told that the chefs were stranded because of it and service was delayed as they were running on skeleton staff.

I read the previous reviews and thought I would still go. Im really glad I did. The food was superb. I would recommend the mixed grille. This is much better than anything else in LB so give it a go. Be sure to book as it is busy.

The restaurant itself is lovely, the food is amazing however the service is what let it slip! I went for my birthday, 6 of us. Having read the reviews I knew service probably wouldn't be that great so told everyone what I read, it certainly softened the blow. We arrived early for our 8:30PM reservation, service began good however after ordering our drinks and food we barely saw any waiters/waitress'. We received 1 starter 15mins before any others (after waiting long enough in the first place) - he had to eat without us after waiting for a while to avoid it getting any colder! The main course (we all ordered shish, 4 pieces of meat which would take minimal time to cook) finally arrived to us at about 10:30PM! Luckily we were happy sat chatting and drinking (although we weren't asked for more drinks we had to keep getting up to find someone to get one). It was then a nightmare to try and get the bill, once the bill arrived then a nightmare to try and get someone to take the money so we could leave!! Admittedly I have had worse service in my life but but if the service was better, i would give 5 stars as food was lovely!

Ate out here with friends. Food and service was very good, the four of us enjoying our meal and the staff were very attentive. However, watch out for added service charge. There is no mention of service charge on the menu nor had we been advised there would be a service charge by the staff, but our bill had 20% added. Manager apologised and reduced it to 10% saying even that wasn’t compulsory.

Went for birthday lunch today 8th November. Friendly welcoming staff. Food was lovely everyone enjoyed their chosen dishes. Thank you very much for a lovely birthday experience will definitely come back.

Family meal four adults. Food was amazing Scallops cooked to perfection, full Mediterranean flavour to the food, so if your taste is bland under seasoned food this is not the place for you. 10 out of 10

Seriously amazing food! Myself and 2 friends went for meal here. Wasn’t expecting it to be anything out of this world to be honest as it’s in Leighton Buzzard. How wrong could I be. Staff are so friendly and atmosphere great. Everything about this place is 10/10. I’ve had amazing meals in Cyprus, Greece and Turkey and I can honestly say this was equal if not better. The layout and lighting is perfect and has an open kitchen. The waiters/waitresses have a bit of banter with chefs which was fun. We chose the 5 dish starter of humous, taramasalata, olives etc and bread. For main we had lamb skewer, a chicken dish with eggplant and a lamb wrap. Everything was an explosion of flavour. Once word gets out about this restaurant I think it will be hard to get a table. Fresh and delicious!

The service was good and the waiters were all very polite. The food was lovely and I also like the way you can actually watch the chefs preparing your food! I would definitely go there again :-)

Delicious meal once again. I think the prices reflect the food. Me and my partner had a great time, we had some hummus and really enjoyed their lovely bread. We ordered the chicken shish and the lamb ribs and a side of rice. We had a drink each and it all came to about £34. About average prices really I'd expect to pay. Although there's certainly nothing average about the restaurant. I really like all the little details. The portion size was fine, what you would expect in a high class restaurant (not huge). Looking forward to trying the baklava next time. I was too full up for it on Monday.

We had a early meal before a visit to the theatre to see Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on screen which was relayed live from the Royal Opera House in London.

Fantastic food and service on a very busy Friday night, we really enjoyed it, and reasonably priced too.

Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic service, fantastic food, can’t recommend it enough, it will becoming one of our regular places for an evening out.

We took our family to this restaurant the lady waitress was very attentive and nice to the children. When we sat down with menus I asked if there was a children's menu, there was not. They decided it was good idea to dim the lights when reading the menu which was rather annoying, we heard that they told the couple next to us that they should go to Spec savers which was really rude. All the food was really salty which was disgusting and it gave my little girl a sore tummy. They told us that we had to be done by 8pm I informed them that it was up to them and the kitchen staff to get the food out on time.

Great atmosphere, great food and great staff! Rico, our waiter, was extremely attentive and explained the menu well. Been here twice now and will definitely be returning!

Went for the first time on a Saturday lunchtime. Only a couple of tables were occupied when we arrived but several people arrived soon afterwards creating a good atmosphere. Smart surroundings and reasonably priced menu.

My wife went as a party of 8 girls for her monthly get together on Sunday 1st,this is her review: It was fantastic,just what a restaurant should be with polite friendly professional and courteous service with a sense of humour.Food was lovely,fresh ,good portions and varied good value for money menu. Great authentic dishes. Staff were great even moved the whole party when a couple of the group were really hot as we were sat next to the grill. Decor and ambiance lovely,calm and relaxing.A proper grown up restaurant at a decent price will definitely be visiting again.

A group of us ate there recently. It is our second time, the food was fantastic and the service. We will definitely visit again.

The waiters were exceptionally knowledgable about the menu, marking some fantastic recommendations of food and wine that turned out beautifully. Very warm, welcoming and generous staff. You must try the cheese cake of the day! We were lucky enough to have Oreo. Delicious and highly recommended restaurant.

Let me start of by saying that the restaurant is well fitted and the food smells quite nice, but the service was lacklustre. We popped in early in the day to ask if they had any gluten free options and was told that it would be no problem, but upon arrival that evening the waitress was bewildered and said ‘no’ which didn’t offer any confidence. She sent over a manager who, to his credit, was quite helpful, but he subsequently sent out the ‘head chef’ whose attitude was simply bizarre. He opened up with “so what’s your problem?” and subsequently tried to tell me I didn’t know what coeliac disease was (I quote ‘no, coeliac doesn’t mean gluten it means alcohol’), and also tried to say that they had vegetarian options as if that was a substitute. After a back-and-forth he conceded that coeliac meant gluten free (and apparently alcohol too?). I was slightly taken aback, but he continued to try and list things I could have even though I’d lost all confidence and quite frankly didn’t want to eat somewhere where someone was undermining me as a customer. Despite my obvious discomfort, he insisted we should stay until we got up and walked out.

Visited on 30th September. Friendly atmosphere and very friendly staff. Meal was superb and plenty of it. Disabled access good. Nice to see the food being cooked. Would definitely visit again soon.

Nice clean modern place (and wonders worked since it was a pawnshop), but....

The meal was actually the nicest ever. The atmosphere is just amazing... chilled but alive (if that makes sense). And the service was great, never been looked after so much before and made to feel so welcome in a restaurant.

We were seated at a table and then ignored. No menu, no offer of a drink or even acknowledged that we sat there for ten minutes.

Nothing more can describe my evening better than dreaming of a Food Paradise. I came this evening with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday of a very dear friend. I have never felt so welcomed in a big Group before at a restaurant. The service by the staff was nothing but superb, with each individual bring in their own unique personality whilst being warm and welcoming. I recommend this to anyone who's wanting a fresh and invigorating experience.

My wife and I wanted a quick snack for a Friday lunch. We were tempted and fell as the food was excellent and the wine good quality. The Adana - minced lamb - was excellent. I was worried that it would be over spiced with mint (a common failing) but the spicing was excellent. The lamb on my wife's shish kebab was very tender and the salad was exceptional. The service was friendly but not intrusive.Kayra is a welcome addition to Leighton Buzzard restaurants.

Our party of four were spoilt for choice in choosing a restaurant in Leighton Buzzard, we have been to several very good ones there. We thought we’d give Kayra, a new Mediterranean Restaurant & Bar in the High Street, a try. We were not disappointed! In brand new premises which are modern and comfortable; with friendly, knowledgeable servers who give their ‘guests’ great attention. The restaurant is on two floors and we dined on the ground floor, where we could see the chefs at work behind a glass screen. Tables were attractively set with usual cutlery and napkins etc but also a single stem flower in vase and a bottle of wine – as a recommendation, not complementary! The choice of cold or hot starters, salad, sides, grills, oven or fish is all from fresh produce, cooked on the premises – and tasted excellent, as did the desserts. While it is still early days, booking a table is probably a good idea – we went on a Wednesday evening in the first week of opening and it was full – and guests were happy and laughing, so quite noisy in a good way! We look forward to going there again.

We were so impressed with everything this evening. I Went for dinner with my husband and my parents and we were spoilt for choice! Some amazing dishes, all made fresh in front of us in the kitchen. All the ingredients are fresh and the dishes we tried were delicious!

Myself and my flatmate decided to go here just to 'try' it out, as it's a new resteraunt in LB, and believe me, we are coming back. We walked in and the place looks lovly, greeted by a wonderful woman, (didn't catch her name sorry, petite, olive skin, dark hair, happy smile). we sat down not expecting much until our waiter Rico (Ricardo) came across telling us the menu, a wonderful young man with much to say about the amazing food. But of course, every resteraunt has this...however, he wasn't just blagging the menu, the food WAS amazing. We shared a started, the calamari, which I reccomend to everyone, my flatmate was very impressed with her mixed shish grill, and I loved my Kayra special, lamb with chedder cheese, beautiful, and not too rich. Rico's service was outstanding and chatted with us quite regulary, though not so much as to interrupt our meal or our own conversation, the man is a legand and if you go here please listen to what he has to reccomend, (I don't know if he's single, better ask next time ;P ) as his choices for us were brilliant. I also asked if they do private functions, he told me yes, and they have an upstairs area which seems like it could fit a good 30ish people in there. All in all it was a great experiance for us. The only problem that my flatmate had pointed out, and it's more a design flaw than anything, and simple to fix: the ladies room has no sanitary bins. (Still an excellent place though, thank you Rico!)

Had an amazing night at Kayra. The food was to a very high standard, as were the waiters and the restaurant itself. Will be back soon.

On Saturday night six of us dined at Kayra in Leighton Buzzard.Kayra is an upscale Mediterranean restaurant. Nice decor. The restaurant is very busy and probably best to have reservations during weekend.The menu has the popular Mediterranean items.The best dish is Mixed grill which was the best dish of the night. It was fall of the bone tender and full of flavor. Our table had the Adana ,Chicken Shish ,Lamb Chops, and Seabass.The starters of mixed meze and the octopus,calamari.Service was excellent and attentive but not intrusive ,we sat on the first floor.Great experience you won`t find this quality of food and service around Leighton Buzzard,definitely we`ll be back.

I've never thought that we were going to give our taste buds an amazing treat via KAYRA.... Stylish dishes, good portions,interesting ingredients and good service... Well done KAYRA we will be back very soon with a bigger group. Highly recommend this place..

Enjoyed a late lunch at Kayra with a friend, and wow! What a lunch it was. Neither of us wanted a large meal so decided on a selection of starters to share. Delicious seafood, very fresh, served with some interesting dips and sauces. My favourite was the goats cheese with a Fig sauce, sweet onion and pumpkin. Lots of freshly baked bread too.

What a lovely new restaurant! The food was delicious and cooked perfectly! The service is brilliant, the waiter had us in stitches! Really friendly atmosphere, I am returning this Friday for another birthday meal and cannot wait to try something else on the menu. Highly recommend this place!

Love what they have done to this restaurant, really nice setting, although it was fairly noisy. Don't sit near the door if you don't want to be in a draught as the door is always open. I think the menu is not very well worded, we were a group of 4 , 2 of us ordered from the menu under the heading FROM THE OVEN, when it came out it was a PIZZA, no where on the menu did it mention that. Over all the food was good and we all had a great evening, not bad for a new restaurant, it just needs a little tweaking here and there.

I went to this restaurant on spec. last night and I have to say it far surpassed by expectations. The decor is relaxing and modern - the atmosphere is great. The FOOD is off the chain of yumminess! I often eat liver in Turkish restaurants and tried their version of it last night - it is the best I have EVER had - so that's a like for like comparison for you. There is a good wine list with well sourced and priced wines. The service also - was excellent from all staff boss to bread chef to table staff. My only criticism would be that it was not until after we had finished eating that we were told that it was cash only that night as they had a problem with their card machine. This was not a problem for us fortunately but it could have caused other diners some embarassment if they had been wanting to use their flexible friend to tide them over until pay day. However - am not taking anything from the 5 stars and frankly - they really deserve them.

Went here last night ( Friday ) family of three and sat upstairs in the large window ... we booked two days before. The whole place as soon as you stepped inside felt as if this had been done to a good standard . The dark polished staircase lit up the way upstairs to our table.

We were looking to book a meal for six but one of our party has a guide dog and so our booking was refused . Not only is this illegal but how disappointing that this is a restaurant that is not customer friendly , luckily we were able to book elsewhere that had a totally different attitude .

Fantastic meal with superb service they couldn't do enough for us. I loved watching them make the puffed bread and even better to eat . Would highly recommend

Can't give a very detailed review as i only visited once and that was during the first week of opening HOWEVER, it all looks very promising and a chat with the manager and chef confirmed their intentions to prepare high quality varied menu with regular changes. Lets hope they are true to their word.

First impression was ok ,staff atentive and feindly,choice of dishes was ok.Food was fine nothing special.Dont sit down stairs as the front door is never shut and it was cold at times

We ate at this restaurant on I think the second night it was open. The service was very attentive and keen to know that we were enjoying our meal. There is a menu of Mediterranean grills and oven specialities. There were some great surprises such as the addition of pomegranate to the salad which took it to a different level.
