Freshly cooked fish and chips just as they should be!

Really glad we chose Karls on our seaside visit with the kids, (17&12) Its tradition for us to sit in the car and watch the sunset over the sea with some lovely fish&chips, before we head off back home to Mcr. Karls did not dissapoint. Perfect, 10/10. Thankyou.

Very nice lightly battered fresh fish and chips. The spicy option of curry sauce was a pleasant surprise. The dining room has a few tables, I am guessing it would be difficult to get a seat in peak season but there is a nice park opposite to sit on the grass in the sunshine. Thanks to 'karen" for the banter, it was good to have a bit of a laugh during our meal.

Great little chippy, two very pleasant young ladies served both myself and the other half, well worth the visit.

Carl's is and has been the only chippy we use, always excellent food, especially the fish! It's huge, tasty and cooked to perfection. Went in yesterday for 2x fish and chips as you always get a decent potion it was shared with four of us, enjoyed it that much went back today for a fish and wasn't disappointed. Well done all and Thank-you!

We stopped here for some chips,and was very disappointed..over cooked, dry and mostly scraps with eyes in,plus small portion for £3.20..definetly gone down since we last visited in the summer.. I'll think twice before going back...

Best fish around iv tried lots of chippy around this area and Ryle and Flint this is best by far for fish.. Lovely staff and you can sit in also 5 starts sss.. Would recommend will go back..

Was looking forward to trying here as it always seems busy. Oh dear! Chips tasteless and greasy. Waste of money. Will definitely not be going again!

Always a hit and miss whether you get nice chips or not from here, once again tonight extremely poor, tasteless, quite hard and dry, my wife could only eat a few from a large portion that costs over £4 not good. Gave 2 stars because the fish was ok, otherwise it would have been 1.

Ordered 2x small cod and chips. Whilst waiting for the fish, a lady behind me ordered chips, peas and gravy. Whilst hers was quick to put together the young girl serving went to pot up the peas. Whilst doing so she said loudly to her colleague ’you can tell who made the peas’ her colleague said ‘yes’. The young girl then repeated it and then said ‘look at the colour of them? They’re soo green….they’re rubbish!’. She quickly turned around and said ‘no they’re not!’ After realising what she said. Her colleague, almost apologetically, said to the customer ‘they’re not rubbish, when you try them you’ll see’. The lady receiving just said ‘Thanks!’ as if she’d been insulted. I then received my food and got home. As my partner plated the food she found that one of the fish had a long hair in the batter. This put her off and dumped everything in the bin. This shows me the quality of the chippy and won’t be coming back again. There are much better and cheaper chippys in the vicinity than this.

Awful place! Paid £3.20 for portion of chips and upon returning home discovered they were totally under cooked and raw. Disgusting serving customers over priced unedible food which had to be thrown away. Will never return to this shop again.

We had Fish Chips and Peas for the first time from Karl's, Fish and Chips Shop... absolutely gorgeous food.. great portions lovely white cod, loads of chips, great value for money, freshly cooked has you wait.. Great chatty friendly staff, too. A big recommendation from us...

Was great food. The only downside was the wait We went for opening and still had to wait 40 mins for chips. Our fish was done 10 mins before the fish which meant it wasn't as crispy But overall it was pretty good

How fish and chips should be. We were only staying in Prestatyn for one night but decided on this excellent little chippy for dinner. Fish is freshly cooked to order and was light and flaky, tasty chips and excellent gravy. If you are a local, or if you are just visiting, I would highly recommend a visit here.

Called in for a small portion of chips on way home as we were driving past. The price for a small portion seemed to be the going rate at £3.20. Have not been here for a while will think again before returning. Chips were just okay greasy and 50 percent of the portion were bits and edges. Not good value at all so I would argue that we paid £6.40 equivalent had we had all chips and no bits. Such a change since last called about 7 months ago.

Came in while staying at Presthaven caravan park. 10/10 food would 100% recommend anyone in the area to go here. The people running it were super friendly and are happy to help. The quality of the food is amazing considering how cheap the prices are in comparison to the chips shop on the haven site. Was so nice I came back the next day.

Always top food. Can't recommend enough. It's that good (especially the fish) I end up eating in their cafe 3 to 4 times a week.

My parents have been going to Karl's chippy for years, best place for gluten free fish and chips. We had X1 g.free fish and chips and 2 "normal" fish and chips. Was freshly cooked and delicious! Girls who work there are lovely and chatty, great service

No idea what has gone wrong here The cafe used to be fab The food is still excellent to take away but the cafe let's it down..we where offered no cutlery just a wooden fork..no plate..eat out of the polystyrene tray..the staff member was working on her own cooking etc.. Please get it back to how it used to be..

Absolutely lovely, freshly battered fish and really tasty chips. We’d finished the Offa’s Dyke Way and celebrated with Karl’s fish and chips. A cracking way to end our walking experience, and all four of us raved on about how great the fish was.

Best Gluten free Fish and Chips in North Wales, delicious. Staff were amazing, so helpful and understanding.

Always use here when on holiday every Friday as they do gluten free food on Fridays only gave 5 stars but would give it more if I could amazing tasty food

Huge portions definate value for money. Fresh flake fish cooked perfectly.

Very very busy. 25 minute wait. But lovely food.

The place was busy on the takeaway section, and they were short staffed, apparently, but there was no excuse for the way the food was ..... The fish was greesy even though it had been resting a while, and the batter was soft and soggy. The chips were ok, but there were too many hard, crunchy ones, which wasn't very nice. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be trying another chip shop, that's for sure.

This is an old style fish and chip shop which is rare these days. The business has been around since the 1960’s. Ordered family fish and chips the quality was absolutely brilliant. We would definitely use again.

Food wasn't great, some chips were rock hard and the fish was soggy and greasy, peas also tasted of nothing. Short staffed so the wait time was nearly an hour and then they are that rushed they lost all their people skills. Not in a rush to go back unfortunately.

Really tasty, but yesterday they closed 40 min earlier! That was frustrating because we planned our day with this treat. Yes, it was warm but I can't stop working earlier if its hot and if you want then you should announce it, we checked online for the opening times! Update: Today was everything perfect, that's why I change my review to 5 stars ! 2nd Update Today 17th September 23 Closed again more than 1h earlier and turned people away because of staff problems...

Incredible, that good weve travelled on several occassions a 1 hour and 40 minute journey just to receive Karl's fish and chips!!!

Arrived to find it quite busy which was expected bring a Friday evening, after an 1hr wait in the queue apparently this was because of a lack of staff on duty, the food was substandard, cold and the pies were of a terrible standard, over cooked and uneatable , will have to look for somewhere else in the future.

AVOID! Went here as really fancied some fish and chips, having not been here before we thought we would give it a go. Entered and waited for 5 minutes before even being acknowledged by the worker! the actual place is very run down so I wish we left at this point. But we didn’t and proceeded to order, I had a large chips and a jumbo sausage and my friend ordered scampi and chips. We waited outside for our food and was ready within another 5 minutes (very speedy) Upon coming home and opening the food the chips were still raw and so was the sausage and scampi absolutely disgusting and made us feel sick just by looking at it. Would not go here again under any circumstances

We've been coming here for many years and it's always fabulous! The staff are amazing, always happy to help with any queries. They make sure the food is perfect every time - and we've been a lot! The staff are incredibly friendly and lovely and go out of their way to make everyone happy. Best chippy ever!

Was great to come across a chippy that offers gluten-free options. As it's a struggle. Staff didn't seem overly impressed when I asked for the fish and chips (Gluten free) 😬 but I was the 1st customer to ask. Other than that the food was great, big portions!

This is the 3rd visit past 2 fish and chips okay they resemble the photo used by shop on this review page. However tonight's £31.60p meal was 3 burnt fish and 2 portions of supposably chips, they were a mixture of light and very dark chips as if they have been cut and left to darken in water for several hours. Our cats had a little nibble but not that impressed. The lot went straight into the bin. I'm afraid you have lost my custom £31.60 per week over a year is a lot of money to lose 😕 if you cannot produce fish and chips and you expect to survive by serving crap food you don't deserve to exist has a restaurant come takeaway Just being honest I know what is quality and your serving is not quality I'm not a visiting I live here so expect nothing but the best every time. You have let me and my family down.

Excellent fish and chips available to eat in or takeaway all day long. Our favourite is to eat them by the beach. Seagulls are curious but not bad mannered. They keep their distance.

Best chips I've had for a long time ! Mushy peas were perfect and not like thin green paint like nowadays. Proper old school chippy doing things properly !

Staff were friendly enough but a huge let down was the fish and chips. The cod was extremely thin compared to previous visits as though it'd been sliced into two fillets. Some of the chips were OK but others were quite hard. A disappointment really, Shame as I'd looked forward to this for some weeks. I think I'll try another chippy next when in the area.

I really do not like putting negative reviews on small busineses, but this time I felt compelled to write one. Karl, I have been to your chippy on numerous occasions, but on the 17th May 2024. I bought two portions of chips for £6.60. They were the worst chips I have ever tasted. They were lifeless, limp and soggy. No crispness and I suspect they were cooked in old oil, and warmed up. Please, Please, do not take the locals for granted, My wife and I actually binned them near the your chippy after sampling 5 chips. £6.60 are you kidding me. An Irish family on holiday were also deliberating whether to go in, " Make sure the chips are fresh" I said. Gross Karl, just gross. Well you have lost me and my wife to Jim`s Chippy.

Great food, hard working, friendly staff

The food was okay, but the staff couldn’t have been less welcoming if they’d tried! We were on holiday in the area and called here for a takeaway, it was an hour before closing and we didn’t have a particularly large order but I appreciate that it was larger than average - 5 meals. Our order was taken without question but the service was incredibly slow and the looks that the staff gave us whilst we were waiting made us very uncomfortable. They were also passing comment to each other that ‘some of them would like to get home at some point today’. We were not the only ones treated this way we noticed, although the regulars seemed to be treated much better. Definitely not service with a smile if you’re not from the area! 👀.

Called in here today with our twin granddaughters. The owners/staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food was delicious.

Looks extremely dated, although there is a blackboard with the menu on the wall most of the prices were not written on so I had no idea how much I was going to end up paying! The chip were chunky and we'll cooked, the fish was well cooked and was fresh, but the batter tasted unpleasant due to the oil being old and clearly needed changing. Not cheap at £9.75 for a medium size fish and chips. The shop needs a little more spent on signage and decorating, that and a good clean it would be somewhat more inviting. More regular chaning of the oil and it would be a vast improvement. Marked 3 out of 5 because I can't mark it 2.5 which would be more accurate.

How chip shops should be, freshly made battered cod, freshly made chips. Very reasonably priced, very friendly staff. They also do gluten free on a Friday.

Awesome chips plus a nice fish and sausage! This was the one chippy we could find open on a Wednesday lunchtime and we weren’t disappointed 👍

We’ve been coming to Karl’s for years, always with a well behaved small family dog. Today, we were turned away all 7 of us because they no longer allow dogs! Sadly, they won’t be getting our business again as we always have a dog with us.

Chips good as usual but fish was let down by the batter the taste was not great. Should use beer batter much tastier.

Really disappointed, went to Karl’s today to be told dogs are no longer welcome. Been coming here years and never had any issues, probably won’t be coming here again.

Great fish & chips always service with a smile

I frequently visit Karl's chippie and enjoy the fish and chips. Unfortunately, they do own and use a microwave to heat the pies which is in my mind a sin. All this type of heating does is turn what should be a pie crust into pie mush. "BlYDI HEL"". A commercial Air fryer would not cost much but would heat the pies so we could enjoy wholesome pie crusts. May earn 5 stars to get this right.

Best Fish and Chips in the area

Went there recently was very nice found a little bit expensive but worth it for a treat and the fish & chips shop has been in the same family for 64 years.

Traditional fish and chips... Beautifully fried both fish and chips with old school mushy peas... One standard portion will fill two people... the best fish and chips I think I've had in North Wales in over 30 years...

Love this chippy, don't get to come often cos l drive 45miles and back each time,but got to say they are the best and the staff are lovely and friendly.you won't be disappointed.

A group of six of us ended our day at Karl's having been recommended by someone we met at Llandusul. He told us this was the best chip shop in North Wales and we would completely agree with that statement. The fish and chips were awesome and we were served by two of the nicest ladies. They were friendly, helpful and great conversationalists. They even went out to a local shop to buy more bread for us to have with our meals. This is a fist class establishment and we will make a point of visiting again when next in North Wales

Amazing staff. All very friendly and chatty, couldn’t do more for us. All of our meals were ace and the cod and chips was just epic. Good walk along the seafront after as well being deafened by the wind. Only negative re the area is that there weren’t any doughnut shops nearby, though there often aren’t. Would visit again!

On a cold night we had the best fish and chips in town

Chips cold, sausage microwaved, shelves bare, no prices on the wall. Guessing it's about to close down. Lady who served us even more grim. It was clear she'd lost the love of her job, came across rude, well she was outright rude. I felt uncomfortable when she was interacting with other customers. I'm pretty sure most people won't review out of fear of upsetting her!!

Great staff, excellent food, if anything their portions are too big, will order one portion of chips with two fish next time.
