When I was growing up my mum used to take us here on our birthdays for a treat. I always had a Knickerbocker glory for pudding. This place fell off my radar for about 30ish years then though. So I was in Swansea and remembered this place and thought I'd try it out again. Well it didn't disappoint at all. The food, service and atmosphere are amazing. It took me back to being a kid again. It is now my favourite place to eat in Swansea.

Lovely little breakfast and lunch spot. All the staff are incredibly friendly and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend it. We went everyday and our waitress Courtney was very welcoming and remembered us!

“I had a lovely experience at this restaurant. There was a couple, who I believe are the owners, and they were incredibly friendly. I asked for a table for one, and right away, one of the staff found me a place. I ordered the ‏vegetarian breakfast and a coffee with milk. Within about 3 minutes, my food arrived, and it was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms, red beans, and everything on the plate tasted fantastic, as did the coffee. I highly recommend this dish to any Muslim or vegetarian, as it doesn’t contain bacon or pork sausage. The price was also very reasonable. 👍🏽”

The kardomah is a faboulous place to eat for lunch or a snack staff are all very friendly and the food is lovely to my granddaughter loves eating there always have since she was a toddler lovely to go there todayxxxx

A proper family business with family values and proper coffee. The best coffee house and restaurant in Swansea. There is a good reason they have been around as long as they have.

Staff are lovely, very kind, coffee great and reasonably priced. Milk alternatives offered for only 50p extra. Only thing that would make it better is WiFi, but I appreciate that they are creating a place that people come to talk and catch up, rather than look at their phones.

Many years since I last went to the Kardomah but nothing has changed. Food was fantastic staff really friendly.

Wow, what a little gem in Swansea. I honestly didn't know this restaurant was here but I'm glad I do now. The staff were so friendly especially with my daughter. Very attentive to service too. The breakfast tasted sooo good and the coffee (latte) was just as good. I also purchased some fresh coffee beans which have gone down a treat at home. I would highly recommend Kardomah, we will be back!!

Honestly I have no idea how this place get such a high rating . I honestly think people who think this is good food must have really really poor taste or growing up in Swansea and never travel or tasted a proper home made food , and just don’t know any better . I lived 14 years in uk and never had more sad roast dinner in my life . The portion was just an absolute a joke it’s probably enough for a 90 years old person or a 1 year old kid . Also I’m pretty sure the chef was hired straight from the prison kitchen . The carrots was boiled from frozen packet for 2 days I think the beef was thinner then a ham slice and a 1 pieace of roast potato with a tiny bit of mash potatoes… Soo disappointing the only good thing about that place it’s a young waitresses which are very lovely and friendly and amazing coffe . I made a pic but not option to post

I hadn’t been here for a number of years and was pleasantly surprised to see the same warm friendly atmosphere there was when I used to come as a child, unbelievably helpful with my children and overall so welcoming

This place is a wonderful cafe that has not changed in 50 years. I remember coming here with my grandmother for a toasted teacake and a pop. I returned to Swansea after 20 years to find it still there, the decor clean and unchanged, the wait staff still in black and white uniforms and the original owners son at the till to checkout. The food is outstanding, the coffee ☕ is great and the memories come flooding back. I hope this is here for another 50 years as this is one of the gems of Swansea and it shows that if you do things right, have a friendly atmosphere and great food at the right price, you can build a business for generations to own and generations of patronage. What a find! This is a great place, a perfect place in fact, to enjoy the breakfast selection, fresh coffee and a great choice of lunchtime mains and desserts. Friendly and efficient staff team - we're going to return on Saturday...to sample the 'Welsh' breakfast served at the weekend...

Lovely place with friendly staff. Great coffee! I will definitely be returning. The menu looked nice, with lots of choices 😋 It was just a shame that the disabled parking behind the building was unavailable. Contractors had decided to use all of the blue badge spaces 😡

It's not in the top 50 cafes in the world for nothing. Quality home style food and the friendliest staff I've seen . It's like being at home, it's that cosy.

We all loved our meals here. The decor and service of the restaurant is peerless - it feels like being in a real life set for a Welsh version of "Twin Peaks". For me the fried breakfast was one of the best I've ever had - though I would appreciate a specifically "Welsh" breakfast featuring laverbread on the menu. That would be cool. But all in all, one of the best cafes in the world, with lovely attentive service at every stage.

Went today for the first time and loved it! Food was amazing. Good prices. Staff were lovely! Made us feel at home :)

This place was recommended for its excellent breakfast. Food was just about ok regards taste, but the sausages were overcooked, as was the bacon. The 'full English' consisted of 2 sausages,1 bacon, beans, 1 egg, fried bread and 1 round of toast, drinks extra after 1130. 2 breakfasts and drinks cost £23, expensive for what it was. Wont be going back in a hurry. Staff were very nice, service was good.

Always love popping in here for a filter coffee, like stepping back into the 70s (not that I was around then!) Great coffee shop, extensive range of coffees for sale, and an interesting food menu blending caf classics and Welsh classics. Service is always lovely & friendly, and I do enjoy the experience of being in what feels like a living museum exhibit! Also a great place to buy coffee - they can grind their full range of Gower coffees to the correct spec for whatever equipment you use at home, and really know their stuff :)

Always a pleasure to visit Swansea's cafe from the past. Service is always excellent and the food great.

A must visit when in Swansea it's such a lovely place and service.

Lovely place, great staff. I'd say the only downside to the kardomah is that their menu options have always been very limited for a specialist coffee shop. If they want to keep up with modern chains, they need to start offering more snacks and options with their coffee. Tea, hot chocolate, latte or Cappuccino don't cut it as the only options since the 90s. Great place though, if the Kardomah ever closes, Swansea will have lost an integral part of its soul.

Food looked lovely but half my breakfast was cold and the other half hot,sausages were cheap and nasty ,tip to chef get a microwave that rotates so it heats the whole plate of food

One of the 50 greatest cafes on earth. A truly original and authentic experience. Staff are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. If you have to queue, it's worth the wait.

I always come here when I visit Swansea, and here's why....... There is a huge choice of food, and they always accommodate any changes you wish to make to the items. The food is always cooked fresh and tastes delicious. I've NEVER had a bad meal there. The service is fantastic! Someone will be with you within minutes of sitting down, and of course, they will give you as much time as you need. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Even when the cafe is full to the brim of diners, the food is never delayed or undercooked. And they will always endeavour to find you a table. The decor, I think, is fab. I hope they never change it. I love this quirky, friendly cafe.

Love this place! Impeccable service, welcoming atmosphere - nothing is too much trouble. I’m no coffee snob but I know their’s is top notch. My dad used to go when he was a young man, and I love taking his grandsons there now. A jewel in Swansea’s crown. Never change, Kardomah!

I love coming to this cafe, my nan used to go with her mother and now she loves coming with me and my sister. Amazing service, the ladies there are so kind and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is good quality too, I had the lasagne with garlic bread and it was delicious!! Will always recommend this place to people who are going to Swansea

Great place for a coffee and a traditional lunch/breakfast. The atmosphere is fantastic. As all café they tend to close early.

Possibly the best breakfast in the uk? No, certainly. If you’re after a full English of the highest echelon (none of this black charcoal toast nonsense) then look no further then the Kardomah. Bring an extra pair of socks because yours will get knocked off.

I was served by Ruby fabulous 5 star service everything was great ...really really friendly place I had Burger and chips a pepsi and great mug of black coffee and to top it off Pancakes and icecream.....can.t wait to go back ....

My Mum and I went to this restaurant last Saturday and unfortunately when I asked for a Welsh breakfast I was told there is no difference between Welsh breakfast and English breakfast and we don’t do it anymore. However, I told my friend about that and he said Welsh breakfast has cockles and laverbread. I am so disappointed about the person who said that to me. However, when my friend went yesterday to the restaurant and asked them for a Welsh breakfast they say we do it every Saturday. So, please next time when people ask for Welsh breakfast or specific food just say let me check with the kitchen if you are not sure.

Great place to see people you haven't seen for a while, not many family run restaurants around now! Nice food and ambience!

Such friendly and welcoming staff, love the decor also. Chicken and stuffing dinner was delicious, well worth the price, and the hot chocolate was perfect on such a rainy day. Will definitely be returning soon.

Come here for a wonderful slice of Swansea history, served alongside excellent coffee and food. Marcus & Louise embody all that is special and genuine in the hospitality industry. No pretenses, they keep coffee and their establishment real ☺️ Marcus remembered where my husband surfs and who his mum was....that's quite something considering she passed away 20 years ago and we've not been to the Kardomah since 💜 No wonder this place has gone the distance.

What an amazing place inside. Waitresses are dressed in proper black and white collared old school uniforms, walking round with jugs of coffee giving top ups. They all give such amazing service! It's like stepping back in time with the decor, its really like the place has been frozen in time, it's a must visit if you come to swansea, especially if your older, you will feel such nostalgia. You will wonder if its been recently done up to look retro and vintage but actually it's just that they've been there many years doing the same thing. It's perfect. Such a wonderful little cafe!

Very good. I went along because Wittgenstein used to hang-out there. The food is traditional British cooking, no frills, and plenteous. Great value and completely authentic.

The Kardomah Restaurant is situated next to the beach. The decor is modern and the dining area bright and airy. It has an extensive menu, the food is beautifully cooked and presented. We had a family meal and everyone had an enjoyable time. The servers are friendly and efficient - this restaurant is well worth a visit.

My first time visiting and food was delicious and well priced and the service was immaculate. You can really see why the Kardomah has such a good reputation and is such a long standing,well respected establishment in Swansea.

Travel back in time and hope you get the waitress who retired and has returned, 50 years of efficient, friendly service. Lovely.

A Swansea landmark and tradition. Good food in a period setting. Was packed when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. But it is wonderful seeing a place where servers still stop to chat with regulars. If you are a visitor to our little city you must make the effort to stop into this cafe that poet Dylan Thomas made famous.

Great breakfast at a good price. The shop is very popular and likely the best place to get a breakfast in Swansea.

We had an English breakfast which we did enjoy, I like my black pudding crispy on outside but all in all a very good breakfast with nice sausages. Too often you get cheap tasteless sausages but not here. Staff work incredibly hard with a staff member helping a lady into a wheelchair with a smile on her face and it seemed like she made this lady feel comfortable with the staff member helping her. A lady opposite had cawl with was under £7 and it looked really nice, next time I will probably have that.

First time here breakfast was freshly cooked and quality sausages. Service was very quick, staff were extremely busy and always smiling. We saw a member of staff helping customer in wheelchair which we felt she went above and beyond to help customer. I will definitely return here.

Wonderful Restaurant steeped in atmosphere and a great lunchtime rendevous

Love this place, don't ever change!

Visited today with my husband and daughter. My husband used to visit there as a child so was looking forward to this visit. Seated quickly, rushed to order, I'd barely taken my coat off. Food was fine, hot, nothing to write home about. Bill replaced a plate as soon as it was empty. My daughter and I needed the toilet so as we got up and asked where it was, a waitress informed us we'd have to use the gents as the ladies had already been cleaned and was closed. I asked my daughter if she could hold it, but said she couldn't. As expected, gents stank of urine, we walked into a urinal and one cubicle. I was very unimpressed that they felt this was appropriate for a child to use. On returning to the restaurant the floor had been mopped so felt uncomfortable walking on their clean floor but no one seemed to want to wait for paying customers to vacate the premises before cleaning up. It seemed we were the inconvenience. Quite annoyed at myself really as I should have to just asked to use the ladies regardless and spoken to the manager if that was an issue but you try to be a good customer and conform. Next time I'd be much bolder if this happened again. But I don't plan on visiting this restaurant again. Definitely no customer service skills here.
