Absolutely excellent! From the first encounter with the friendly and helpful lady who dealt with my phone enquiry, I felt sure I was in good hands...And I was right. Decided to have a birthday tea at home rather than going out . I read the reviews about Chai deli, and decided to get in touch. I am so pleased I did. Very helpful lady took my order on the phone . The High Tea was amazing, and all the family were very impressed. The quality and value for money was exceptional, and attention to detail very impressive eg even including tea bags (which were excellent), and small packs of butter. The presentation was excellent, with boxes wrapped with beautiful ribbon. Would certainly recommend and use again

Wow - these guys deliver to Nicholaston Camp site as a take away and the beef rolls are literally the best. The beef fell apart from the long slow cooking. Fantastic range of delicious items...they had sandwiches, savoury tartlets, savoury scones, little cakes, scones, jam and cream and these weren’t your average flavours, these were all lovely flavours like Mediterranean vegetable tartlet and nectarine and white chocolate squares etc. Amazing value for money I would of paid double. My wife and I ordered a high tea from Chai, and were both impressed with the quality of the food. The sandwiches, savouries and cakes were lovingly made to a high standard, and the service was superb. The staff, both via telephone and at the point when the food was delivered, were polite, friendly and helpful. We were looking for a decent coffee shop wit WIFI and found this delightful delicatessen/tea room at the top of the hill beyond the supermarket. It seems to be a one owner driver with great ambiance and the WIFI was fairly fast which suited us. Being a local B&B in Mumbles we serve lots of tea to our guests at breakfast. Occasionally we can be over zealous with the washing up resulting in a few less teapots. In search of new ‘tea pots for 1’ we scoured the internet to no avail and had almost given up when we strolled past Chai and saw the colourful teapots in the window. We immediately called in and bought a few. The tea pots are great quality and colourful - the same ones Chai use to serve tea to their customers. It was lovely to buy local from a family run business too. Thanks again - we know where to come next time we have a tea pot crisis!

I really enjoyed my first visit to this small café. I especially liked being able to see the dishes, in glass fronted chilled cabinet, as I often have trouble choosing from menus when all the dishes listed sound lovely. My wife had a home-made scotch egg, with salad, and I had a home-made salmon and broccoli quiche. Both dishes were superb. It is so nice to have home-made food like this, as opposed to reheated dishes in chain-type restaurants. Nice. The owners &/or staff were very friendly and welcoming. The coffees we had were also superb. Nice place to sit and relax.

Saw Chai online after looking for somewhere different for our usual coffee and cake.We were warmly welcomed by the owner and had a quick guided tour of the culinary delights from sweets to savories. We both decided on the pumpkin and pecan cake and chose well as it was delicious. On paying the bill, we purchased to take away for our lunch 2 portions of Spanish Omelette, the owner advised that everything was homemade and worth of trying in my opinion. This is a delightful cafe/tea room, with lots to offer together with a very large selection of specialty teas. If you are visiting the Mumbles in Swansea, I’d give Chai a try instead of the usual mediocre collection of coffee houses.NB on my next visit I am going to invest in the Black Pudding Scotch Egg- can’t wait so it’s likel to be very soon.

We are so glad we stumbled across this place because the moment we walked in we were made to feel so welcome. The owner made sure we had a table where the baby would feel comfortable. As a local, I’m ashamed not to have visited before, but I needed some loose tea and just called in. What a charming place, it was very busy and I had to wait a short while for the owner to attend to me, so I had time to have a good look around. The cakes looked really tempting and the dishes being served, equally so. The scotch eggs looked enormous and there was (what looked like) a freshly made thick Spanish omelette on the counter. I have popped in for coffee and cake on previous visits to Mumbles but on this occasion took my mum with me. I thought I only wanted coffee and cake but then decided I wanted lunch too when I saw the menu! Both my mum and I are gluten intolerant and I knew Chai had previously had a range of gluten free cakes, which was why we decided to go there. We asked what lunch items were gluten free and were given a good list (the staff are very knowledgeable and accommodating). We both had fish chowder with gluten free bread - it was superb! This was followed by carrot cake and orange drizzle cake (which we shared). Both were fab (my mum said the orange cake may well be the best cake she has ever eaten out!) and these two were only a fraction of the 5 or 6 gluten free cake options available to us. I also had a coffee which was lovely (roasted nearby) - great strength but not too bitter, and we ended up buying a bag to take home with us! We had a lovely chat with the owners and overall had a most enjoyable lunch experience! If you are gluten intolerant I would definitely recommend it, and if not, I would still recommend it as the food is great. We will definitely be back!

In comparison to the daytime menu we were a litte disappointed. Whilst the food itself was lovely, we thought the menu was a little "samey" with ceamy sauces, chocolate and nuts. Also, it was our first time and we thought it took a little too long to serve the different course. I struggled to eat the desserts with only a cake fork. It might not look as nice but a proper spoon and fork is called for. It was however, very good value. I would go again.

I honestly don't recall what I ordered, but it had onion chutney on it, and it ws was absolutely heaven. Potatoes salad was to die for. Cousin had a cheese and salami with tomatoes, so it tasted like a pizza. Funny how I can recall her sandwich and not mine. They had a good selection of pastries, breads. They had spreads of their own making for sale also. We bought two loaves of bread which come in every Friday. If I lived there Chai's would be a Friday tradition. Called in during a recent visit to Mumbles and weren't disappointed, great selection of homemade cakes which were talked through for us by the owner. Both our cakes were delicious as were our coffee and tea. Will visit again,

Went for coffee and cake - such a huge selection of fresh baked on premises delights. The coffee was delicious, the cakes were outstanding (fig, ricotta and pine-nut - so moist and exquisitely tasty), maple and pecan with a generous amount of frosting on top and in the middles and lots and lots of nuts. Many incredible looking savory treats as well as local cheeses and breads and a great selection of Spanish products (paprika etc).

The chocolate and Guinness cake is fabulous as was the bake well tart. The lemon drizzle was yum. Wide range of teas available.

Wonderful food, unpretentiously served. We've visited many times and the food in this simple cafe has real wow factor. These are just really good cooks. Fish chowder and red onion tarte tatin last weekend were simply the best ever. The cakes vary from day to day but always include unusual and delicious things to try. We miss the tapas take aways they used to offer.

I so wanted to like this place. I've often looked in and glanced at the deli items, artisan breads etc and thought it's exactly the type of place Mumbles should have. Finally visited with the intention to have some tea and something to eat. I had my drink but didn't stay for food. Didn't find the man at the counter (owner perhaps?) welcoming and having subsequently read some reviews referring to Basil Fawlty it seems I'm not alone. The menus on my table were a bit tatty and there wasn't enough to invite me to stay. It wasn't busy and it's a genuine shame as I think in the right hands it could be a great place. It's always nice to have loose leaf tea and maybe as a deli it's ok to pick up some bits but sadly Chai isn't a place to sit down and stay for me. A smile goes a long way.

Great cafe with a small but delicious menu. Service is quick, and food served hot. My personal experience is that it can be very noisy at lunchtime.
