To be clear, this review is for the Karaway Bakery, mail order service. We order four loaves from Karaway, after reading many positive reviews, planning to use one and freeze three, as good quality rye bread freezes very well. However, we were disappointed to receive four stale loaves that were already only fit for breadcrumbs. Given this was our first order, and for £20 (there is a minimum order amount), it is particularly disappointing that we were not considered important enough to send out reasonably fresh bread. Even worse, while our order arrived Thursday, trying to contact the bakery to report this was not possible as they appear to be closed on Fridays We shall not be buying mail order again and cannot recommend this service to anybody.

I have been to Karaway in Westfield and on Borough market, they just simply do the best pastries and are really cheap for the good quality!

We travel here just for their very delicious pastries and breads. The staff are so lovely and the food is so fresh. Love that it’s served on proper plates with a cup and saucer. Our go to place when in Stratford never disappoints. Wish there were more authentic bakeries like this one 😍

It is a very excellent place to go and to spend good quality time with your family. However what made it truly amazing is the outstanding customer service i received from Justina. She was polite, respectful and just a all round good person. Going to visit here my often 100%.

Most of the reviews on here rightly highlight the delicious bread and the coffee and cake isn't bad either. However, I am not so sure about the customer service if my last visit is anything to go by. I always go to Karraway for coffee and a piece of cake if I'm in Stratford. I was in transit on Saturday so decided to go in. I went up to the counter where a customer was paying to place my order as I didn't want to buy bread. The sales assistants ignored me completely to the extent that I felt like the invisible woman. One by one they served people who had come in after me and who had been hovering by the bread baskets at the front of the shop. I finally asked if someone could serve me and the assistant in front of me sucked her teeth and said 'yes just wait.' When she finally decided to take my order I asked her why she had served so many others before me. Before she could answer one of the people who had pushed in started to laugh and said 'oh, she will serve you when she is ready. Don't get so angry about bread.' I asked to speak to the manager and was first told I would have to wait until 3 oclock. The assistant then changed her mind and went to fetch a woman who had been filling the bread bins. I told her my issue and she said 'yes, well they should have served you but people shout at them if they don't serve the ones who want bread. I also have a new member of staff in training.' When I pointed out that I was complaining about the customer service she said 'yes you are right.' She then gave me a cup of coffee on the house and told the sales assistants to serve people in turn as they came in and not randomly. Thanks for the free coffee which was tasty but it was a most unpleasant experience and I won't be back and I won't recommend you to friends as I have done in the past.

I have had their breads which I like and are very good. The cinnamon buns however are a bit plain...lacking in butter and sugar. Lots of cinnamon which is good but could do better. Staff are lovely.I hope the bakery chef reads this... Would love to try again once they spice them up.

They make outstanding bread - we love the dark rye with nuts (Brazil nuts, Hazel nuts, pistachios, raisins). We buy a loaf, freeze it and then eat it over a month. Just one slice fills you up! Highly recommend it.

Forget about any of the chains in Westfield or indeed John Lewis for coffee and a cake or a delicious sandwich - this place is delicious and extremely good value. Primarily a bread stall but serving lovely Scandinavian style cakes and good coffee.

Beautiful selection of rye breads, looked excellent. I needed something for my lunch but I’m wheat intolerant so needed a good rye sandwich or roll without any wheat In it. They had a selection on offer that looked great. I asked for one without wheat, they said I could buy a loaf of rye bread but they had no rolls or sandwiches made up that didnt contain wheat. I asked if they could cut into a loaf of non wheat to make a sandwich up?. They said no. I went elsewhere
