I ordered fish and chips, the fish stinks very bad like it was spoiled, it was the most horrible meal of my life, I do not recommend

Visited as a group of 4 adults with a 3yo child. The order for all adults came swiftly but the child's chicken (served rock hard and burnt) nuggets came 30 minutes later! Unbelievable. No apologies provided and the serving of the chicken nuggets was not expedited despite us chasing numerous times. You would think they would exercise common sense to serve food to the starving child first who subsequently got irritated from the long wait! Worst service experienced in a long time!

The best pub between Stratford and Ilford. The best Sunday roast.

Really lovely pub. Great staff, range of drinks and food, which is very reasonably priced. Fantastic selection of entertainment,live music on Saturdays, a mid week quiz and a fab DJ the last Saturday of every month.

Came in for a Sunday Roast and it was delicious! They have several options and I went for the pork which as a very generous portion and so good! Easily one of the best I've had in London. Staff was really friendly as well, so a great experience all the way through. A great spot in Forest Gate and will definitely be going back!

Staff are absolutely excellent. Really lovely and helpful. Roast was pretty good. The meat was cooked beautifully but I would prefer more love put into the veg. Atmosphere is really nice and welcoming. Very family orientated on Sundays so probably not the place if you're after the hair of the dog. But I had a really nice time here and that's what counts!

O had ordered watermelon-feta cheese salad. It was delicious…!! For me, it was quite good as a starter. Also the service was good and atmosphere was welcoming.

Fabulous pub! Having been born and raised in Forest Gate, but moving away 10 years ago to live abroad....my first visit back after years this weekend gone... highlight of the the trip was cold beers and delicious food in the lovely garden, with great service and positive vibe! Prices are great, team is super welcoming, keep up the great work guys and see you in November when we travel again for a weekend. First stop after airport will be here!

I made a group booking for ten seniors and we were welcomed seated, served and looked after. Brilliant. Fish n chips gorgeous and other feasts were well appreciated too and smelt and looked divine. A lovely sit down afternoon in a spacious dining area. Great space. Great pub.

The staff is adorable and well trained. The food is well prepared and it has NOTHING to do with the wetherspoon in Stratford. It was real cooking. It was a pleasure to eat three days in a row. We will be back next time we go to Stratford at Easter.

A gem of a location, that I'm glad not many know about. A really nice place to go for a quiet, civilised drink. My go to when a spare evening is available.

Lovely place and saw the Dog Jammers who were playing there (they are there 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month!) Food is well presented and very tasty and staff are always very helpful and nice.

Best pub in E7! Delicious food, great staff, well-rounded selection of beers, wines and spirits- all without taking out a mortgage to afford. Pints and wines for £4.50 on weekdays are a particular draw! Highly recommend!

Vege roast was tasty and felt very virtuous though found the gravy quite watery. The sticky toffee pud was 👌👌 Nice selection of beers and a couple of alcohol free options (Guinness, lucky saint). Service was casual but staff were friendly and attentive. We were inside on a rainy summers day and would have loved to be able to crack a window, very stuffy. Some music would have been great too.

Nice, relaxed, family friendly pub. I dropped in to watch a bit of football while waiting to get the train. It was early evening and the place was not too busy. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Other customers also seemed friendly. The place also seemed friendly for families and there was, what looked like, a parent and baby club on one of the tables. The beers were served in icey glasses, which was a nice touch on a hot day. They had a good range of beers from well know brands to seasonal specialities. I didn't try to food but the food I saw being delivered to other tables looked good. Every table had a dinner reservation for later in the evening. I plan to return and try the food.

Love this pub! Great range of beers including local brewers and the food is awesome. Their roast pork is a Sunday favourite. The staff are really friendly and always happy to serve you.

Brilliant pub right by the train station. Excellent staff, tasty food and supportive of local events and live music etc. A real gem of a place.

UPDATE MAY 24: They need better beer curation. There are some poor beers on tap. Just because something is local doesn't mean it's good. ---- As a new east Londoner having moved from gastro-a-mile Islington boy was I happy to find this place! Been here several times, - in the summer with a laptop by myself, great to sit out in the back garden - with smokers who love the back garden too as its nicer than smoking out front - with a family with toddlers who totally loved the table football (and who I knew I'd enjoy a round of it with a 4 year old!) - on quiz night tuesday to while the evening away somewhat productively Top marks to Forest on all of these occasions really. The food is good, it's a reasonable selection of starters and mains. They have about 8 beers on tap (cask + keg), so generally there's something for every beer taste (there are several microbreweries in the railway arches in Forest Gate for who want a more beer-specific experience, look it up). The beers are local, have always been fresh, and not silly-priced like you get in London Fields or Hackney generally these days. There are different table arrangements for different moods, which is quite important to me. So: dining-table type seating for bigger groups and for eating, casual pub tables for beer, snacking, and sitting fairly close to your companions, and lounge chairs by the fireplace if you want to sink in for the evening. Finally, a point about the ethnic mix: there is a mix of people that come in here and I'm very happy about that too. Pubs should reflect the community it serves, is a refrain I've heard in Britain all too often, often an empty one as everyone except the white middle classes then find themselves priced out or otherwise uncomfortable in these spaces. Forest Tavern feels more inclusive than that and I hope it stays that way. To many more evenings here!

The outside belies the lovely inside. Wicked chicken & Bacon sarni. The enclosed smoking area outside is cosy. Lovely staff!

The food, the atmosphere, the staff, the drinks we're all on point and every penny spent was worth it. I definitely recommend this place for the roast on Sunday and I'll definitely be back when I'm back in the country.

Since when did this place become a crèche? This place is currently full of screaming kids. Off to Fox and Hounds next door. Proper boozer that doesn’t pretend it’s a family pub.

Local pub, every time I went there has been disappointing, bad selection of beers and even after buying my drinks, on my second round I was denied a taste of a different beer told that “If you had a lager before this will taste the same”, not sure if they all taste the same I would pay London Zone 1 prices for it …

I come here sometimes to work. It's a good little pub and it feels safe and friendly while you're there. Every time I'm on my way home I seriously consider stopping in for a quick one and if it wasn't for the baby back home I probably would 😅 I will say though, a pint of coke is pushing £5. When I'm working I sell it to myself as paying for the electricity, but cummon guys. That's a bit steep

Wonderful local pub. Great food. Friendly & spacious.

A lovely place after the refurb, good food and excellent staff, which remains the case. Unfortunately it’s now been taken over by the kind of selfish parents who think it’s their front room and that everyone should make allowances for their badly behaved kids. Couldn’t even stay for lunch at 2pm on a Friday as it was like a crèche. Shame, as I shall miss the place and it’s not the (excellent) staff’s fault.

The Forest Tavern is a great pub that sells excellent local craft beer at reasonable prices. It is a great venue for meeting and having drinks with your friends, followed by enjoying love entertainment from independent musicians. Had a refreshing pint of London Pilsner that costs just under £6. For a craft beer in London, this is an absolute bargain. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely return.

I like this pub. Its friendly, accessible, has good service, down to earth, clean, cosy, and has consistently good food. We've been a good few times as its a central location for meeting up. This time we were meeting for our Christmas lunch. The visit wasn't its usual pleasant experience. Ordered our food and drink. So far so normal. And then loads and loads of young kids arrived for a childrens party. The kids party took over the whole of front area. Unfortunately, we were slap bang in the middle of a kids party. The kids were well behaved and the adults all seemed nice, but who has a kids party in a pub? Why does the pub allow a booking for a kids party? And at Christmas time with adults having their Christmas work parties? It was so loud and we felt odd getting merry surrounded by so many kids.

"Good food and staff are lovely"Is what I wrote about six months ago. Overpriced food and arrogant barman is my update. You get more chips at spoons... The extra portion of chips I ordered cost four quid ... Our waitress was lovely and the only good thing I can think to say.

After having a very challenging day, having lunch at the forest Tavern was really refreshing and breath of fresh air..from the awesome ambience, clean environment and friendly staff (Poppi), my waiter was exceptional regarding professionalism, friendly and attended all my requirements!! Would highly recommend to all pub & food lovers!! 10/10

Fairly average pub a bit pricey for what you get, the food is not bad but not amazing. It is convenient for forest gate station. Definitely average

Lovely local pub, great food and friendly staff. Pints are well poured and a good selection.

Used to come here quite regularly for the lovely food and service, but returned after a while away and it's gone very much downhill. On the plus side so a great selection of craft and low alcohol beers. But its No longer table service, you order at the bar like in spoons , but unlike spoons you pay £40 for a beer and chips twice! Food was tolerable but my fish was rock solid and the chips passable at best. Sadly we won't be back anytime soon. Save your money and head to the nearest branch of Wetherspoons.

Didn’t have food there, however I looked for something small but healthy like olives or something similar besides nuts and crisps.

Spent £23.80 for two double G&Ts. £11.90 each.. of course the “double” is like a shot and a dribble and we were given a small can tonic each. The prices are ridiculous. The place looks nice and the staff were nice. But those prices don’t belong in Forest Gate. I’ve paid £9 for the same in the Shard before. Can understand why it was so quiet when we went in.

Had really high hopes for the Forest Tav reopening. We live nearest this pub but often walk up to Holly Tree and even Leytonstone Tav as the interior wasn’t always very inviting and the food wasn’t great. Went back and ended up sitting through a god awful open mic on a Thursday. Had a burger which was over cooked and cheap quality despite knocking up the prices. Owners - go to Leytonstone Tav and appreciate what a proper burger tastes like. The new interiors looks good though. Not quite hit the right mix of the perfect pub yet but I live in hope…

Dirty tables and floors, waiters didn't seem interested in us or our food, so sadly will not be returning

I went there on monday and i love what theyve done with the place but they need to learn how to speak to their staff with abit of manners

I went there yesterday and the staff and food where lovely however I did notice that while the 2 girls where behind the bar busy a man was bossing them about while he done nothing something needs to be done about the respect towards the staff

I visited just before they closed for a refurbishment , it was not at its best but that was understandable .. I am looking forward to revisiting once the refurbishment has been completed ..

£6.10p for one pint. I know I'm not up north anymore but Wowwwwwwww it was a good pint but bloody Norah. Lovely atmosphere and the food is decent, close to the station and friendly bar staff, great for local pride events.

Handsome portions of well cooked food. Fair choice of beers and lagers. About to be refurbished. Currently has a somewhat post-industrial feel. It was quiet when we had lunch. Service was prompt and considerate.

Prices a rip off and place is seedy and needs a refurb.

Don’t usually leave reviews but I’ve just popped in for a quick half but was made to wait while staff dealt with customers who arrived after me but had come for food. The bar wasn’t busy so could have just poured my drink and taken my money in a minute. Got to a point where it was taking longer than it needed to be, so I left.

Was an excellent pub but has recently lost something. All the old staff seem to have left and it doesn't feel as welcoming as it did. It's also very pricey for the area. Maybe it will improve.

No booking for a recent Sunday but despite being busy we were found a table. Meal took a while to arrive but we cannot fault the welcome & service. The beer was not to my taste but that’s life. Our roast beef and the belly of pork were very nice, decent portions, very tasty. Dog friendly which is nice. Could do with a water bowl and a few treats to add to the experience. We will return, thank you.
