There was a time when we would always get our Chinese take out from KaHo but I’m afraid for the price there are better places to get food from. Their Singapore noodles are lovely but ribs are not the best. They are a little more expensive than others in the area sadly

We have just had our takeaway from KAHO and are so disappointed 😞 we have up until today been really happy with our meal and although more expensive been happy with the quality. Sadly not tonight. Our meal was dry we had salt and pepper ribs (always enjoyed in the past) but at £11+ were not good tonight, We had duck which we had to leave and a special udon noodle dish which was not up to standard - sad !!

Such a disappointment. I spent £65 on what was to have been a celebration birthday meal for two. I used to rate the Ka Ho, but I was very unimpressed and much of what I bought ended up being thrown away. You can’t fault their portion sizes, but the quality of cooking was appalling. Everything is covered in one gloopy sauce or another, heavily sweetened, even where the menu suggests no sauce. It’s difficult for takeaway to be otherwise, but everything was a mush, not a single crisp vegetable, just one texture throughout. ‘Plain’ noodles were covered in soy sauce or other. What a waste of beef filet to be so over cooked. ‘Peking style’ pork cutlets had nothing in common with the spicy food one might find in Beijing. I’m afraid that, despite its smart appearance, the Ka Ho has become just another tired ‘Cantonese style’ takeaway.

I chose this place because of the positive reviews but I have mixed feelings about the food. My daughter chose sweet and sour prawns Hong Kong style which she said was lovely. I chose king prawn chow mien which was very greasy and lacking in flavour. The prawns were enormous and meaty but had some sort of floury covering on them which I didn’t like at all. So, a disappointment for me and a thumbs up from my daughter.

Nice touch to be able to get a drink whilst waiting and munch on the prawn crackers too.Food was great too - varied in terms of dishes ordered and everyone enjoyed their food from here.Down side was no prawn crackers added as courtesy order addition....Will come back again when visiting no doubt.....would recommend using here to others - even better if you can turn up and order so you can relax with a beer and sit in one of the comfy sofas to watch their tv whilst they cook your takeaway too!

We ate here recently and whilst it might be ok compared to other local take aways, honestly it’s just not good when you’ve eaten from good Chinese restaurants. The Cantonese duck was dry as an old boot cooked in just soy sauce, which I couldn’t believe. The aromatic duck was so dry we had one pancake and left the rest.Fortune prawns were extremely gluey and glupy with a sharp vinegary taste. It’s just not quality food. Ok if you’re starving and you don’t really care you just want quick food, but even then it’s very pricey. We won’t be having again. Just took a couple pics of the duck as we’ve thrown the other meals... the rest isn’t any more appetising to look at or eat.

We have had a takeaway from KaHo on a number of occasions and I have to agree with others the food was delicious although compared to other very good local Chinese takeaways the portion size was smaller. Also compared to other local takeaways the price is considerably higher which means you're getting less food for the extra price you pay.The service was good and quick with free prawn crackers to eat whilst you wait for your food. Which is a positive if you order in the building but if you ring ahead and collect then you don't have time to eat them and it seems no matter how much you spend you don't get free prawn crackers to take away and eat like you do at other places. The food was good but the negitives on price and portion size compared to other local takeaways out way the positives.

Very much enjoyed our takeaway. Cantonese style food. Fairly predictable choices, but takeaway has its limitations. Impressed by the quantities - the boxes packed full with the main ingredient very much in abundance, whatever the choice. Quality evident in the ‘specials’. Chose four dishes and rice for two of us - far too much. I wish there was an option for smaller portions.

The welcome is brilliant and the atmosphere for a take away is one of the best. The food is not good. It is expected that most of the dishes are pre-prepared in someway but this must be taken to the limit as there is no hint of freshly cooked food. I hate to say it but most of the supermarkets can do better for flavor and authenticity. We won't be going back... I actually can cook better food myself and this underlines that it is worth taking the time. It is such a shame.

Having lived in Newark for nearly 20 years and not found a decent Chinese/Cantonese takeaway we were recommended KaHo by a friend. It did not disappoint. Restaurant quality takeaway. Such a shame they aren’t actually a restaurant to be able to get everything fresh from the kitchen rather than after the 15 minute car drive but still totally worth it. If you even think it’s a bit expensive, it really isn’t for the quality.

KaHo are great for gluten-free Chinese food. I was sure I'd never be able to have fried rice again (and yes, you can make your own but sometimes you don't want to cook), but they've got a dedicated GF menu and really know their stuff--for example, once my dad was ordering for everyone, specified that the prawn crackers had to be gluten-free, and was told they are naturally. Knowledge like that is really important to me as a Coeliac, because it proves they know what they're talking about and they're not just spouting hot air.Because the food is so fresh and delicious, it's probably the 'healthiest' Chinese I've had. Although it's still not a diet food.

This is a first for me, a review of a Chinese take-away place but then this is a take-away with a difference! As neither of us had been well, decided to forego the effort and strain of cooking and go for a take-away. As it had been years since we had eaten Chinese, thought that we should have a look at what Newark had to offer in this genre and were surprised to discover one that seemed to be a cut above the rest - KaHo! Found their website easily on the Internet and after having made our choices, phoned up to order. The first surprise was the excellent English of the guy that took the call and as it turned out, he was obviously a British born Chinese lad. Thirty seconds minutes later drove down London Road and pulled into the large parking area of KaHo and it's set back facade. Looked nice but even better when you got inside! A large black glossy counter worthy of a top class hotel and low tables with big, soft easy chairs in a spacious reception/waiting area. About four couples sat around waiting for their orders and having drinks while they did so! Bowls of complimentary rice crackers for you to dip into as you did so. Our order was ready as we had phoned ahead but it seemed that to wait was no ordeal. What did we have? Well the menu is quite extensive with a specials menu as well. Also a set menu selection and a vegetarian one to choose from. Lots to choose from - chicken, lamb, prawns, beef etc in a variety of ways as well as fillet steak, crab and more! Spoiled for choice. We chose the sweet and sour monkfish, broccoli in garlic sauce, chicken in ginger and spring onion and also lamb in black pepper sauce. What did we think of it all? Well the star was the broccoli. Brilliant taste with a good crunch and vibrant green. The lamb was tender and not a bit tough as we feared it might be. The chicken was OK but the monkfish was a bit of a disappointment, being a bit soggy and bland with the sweet and sour sauce too sweet and containing some huge chunks of pineapple. On the whole, as takeaways go it was good and a cut above the norm, but not to be compared with a good Chinese restaurant. Probably the best Chinese takeaway we have ever eaten though. Not cheap as you could see from our bill, £29 with no rice or noodles(always do this at home), but I can see us eating from there again.

The staff at this takeaway are amazing. You can sit and have a drink whilst waiting for your food to be freshly prepared and cooked. The atmosphere is very good and who wouldn't want to sit on comfy leather sofas with an ice cold beer whilst nibbling on some freshly cooked complimentary prawn crackers. I can't tell you what my favourite dish is as there are so many but all I will say is that this is by far the best Chinese takeaway in Nottinghamshire. You have to keep going back to appreciate the fabulous flavours and awesome food. My sister can't eat food with containing MSG's so when she comes up to Balderton this is the first place that she goes. Friends and I decided to have a takeaway from a local Chinese with a great reputation. In the first instance the food was freshly prepared requiring a 30 - 40 minute wait during which time you are invited to buy a drink at a slightly inflated price. There were bowls of prawn crackers available for those waiting though this doesn't help with enjoying your meal when you get to serve it up. The food was okay, tasteless in some respects (especially the prawn dishes), but my biggest bug bear was the temperature of the food...it was largely tepid despite being freshly prepared. The other local chinese takeaway is not as aesthetic but serves hotter, tastier dishes.

We were starving when we finally got our meal at 9.30, only to discover that they had sent the wrong one! So we had to return and swop it for the correct one. A little more honesty about the length of the wait would have been appreciated. However, the food was very good when we finally got it. There were bean curd dishes on the menu, something that is very rare in my experience. There was also a few lamb dishes, again white unusual from a Chinese takeaway. We weren’t booked but were welcomed and shown to a table, there were plenty of other diners and the atmosphere was good. We opted for a set meal, all of which was excellent. Great service from young, pleasant staff made for a very enjoyable experience. We will no doubt be visiting again in the near future.
