Afternoon tea was amazing. Restaurant was clean and looks lovely. Staff was friendly and welcoming but the service was slow, we had to ask about when our food and drinks were coming. I would recommend the Afternoon tea and the food they were bringing out to other customers looked nice.

Fitted our party of 3 plus 2 dogs into a busy Valentines Day lunchtime, (they have a nice separate dining area for people with dogs which was very comfortable and worked out brilliantly) all agreed delicious lunch. Really great service too, fantastic find in Nottingham city centre would definitely recommend. Couldn’t help but gaze wistfully at the most beautiful Afternoon Tea being served on another table, and that looked absolutely spectacular, so I reckon I’ll be back! Thanks to all at Josephine’s.

Spent a lovely valentine afternoon here with my friend! Ordered a halal luxury afternoon tea set which was sooo delicious! The scones especially were heavenly, and we adored them. Would come back just for those. The macaron as well was really good. Only complaint would be the first tea we tried - mango tango, which did not tango and did not taste very mango. However, service was spectacular and every other tea after was spot on. I'd recommend caramel dream and masala chai!

Took my terminal mother last year for a treat. We had the luxury afternoon tea, service was friendly though table way too small for my mother who was in a wheelchair The food was really nice and I loved the bell for the scones, only complaint was the bread was a little dry and fillings not the best tbf, I don't think bbq sauce and chicken really works. Overall it was a lovely experience and a memory I treasure

Well, this was our 1st, but it won't be our last visit. We only popped into Nottingham and it happened to be lunch time. So we decided to try Josephine's. We had a really lovely warm welcome, it was busy but the lady at reception said to give it a minute and she will try and get us a table. We got a table within a couple of minutes. It was very busy (which is a sign in itself). We had a lovely young lady take our order and I had THE BEST fish finger brioche EVER. White soft cod, in a crisp crumb, in the fluffiest of brioche subs, with crushed peas and tarter sauce. Yummy 😋 Honestly the best I've ever had. My coffee was hot, creamy and smooth (and I'm fussy with coffee) It's always too strong or not hot enough, but this was perfect for me. Hubby had a coke and a chicken ciabatta. Delicious food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. I absolutely can't understand anyone giving this place anything less than 5 stars. We can't wait to come back We are definitely going to book for an afternoon tea, someone had it whilst we were there and it looked amazing. Huge admiration for the owner, as a business owner myself it's not an easy job. I think you do an amazing job replying to all your reviews (even the ridiculous ones) We will be back Thank you Salena-Jo and John

I am disgusted at how people can leave there review and the response they are getting back! How unprofessional of the owner. I went in last week, I ordered a salad and it was the worst salad I’ve tasted in my life. I wish I had got a meal deal from boots which would have tasted better. I went up to the chief to let her know and the response I got back from her was awful. She was very rude and didn’t even want to ask me what was wrong. Furthermore, the customer service is very bad, it’s like they are picking up chavy people off the street who can’t even take an order down properly. Please don’t ever eat here. I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to get the service from the staff and the rudeness from the chief. Will be reporting to trading standards and for the owner please look at how you are addressing your reviews. Please fix your attitude or maybe gets some training on how to speak to people.

I'm the friend mentioned in the previous review by Henna. I want to start by saying that my tea was lovely. The waitress who seated us was also very pleasant and we both commented how nice the Christmas decorations were. My first impressions were positive and I have no issues with how we were greeted upon entering the restaurant. However, I want to say that the majority of the response to Henna's review is unfair with a lot of assumptions made about our motivations for doing things. Firstly, nobody mentioned the tables being pushed together to accommodate a larger group. The waitress never told either of us this yet it was later claimed that my friend knew this but ignored it? She did not. She wasn't told and neither was I. The tables are small and I assumed they were pushed together for this reason. I've never been here before so I wouldn't know. There were 2 of us, plus a small child, pram and several shopping bags. We were not at all taking up more room than needed. Honestly if we had been told that the other table was needed for another guest or that it would be a struggle to fit us in without a booking then we would have gone somewhere else. Both me and Henna thanked the waitress as she cleared the table. We did not sit ourselves their out of anything but tiredness, not a sense of entitlement! We had been shopping most of the day, a fact we communicated to the waitress when she noticed our bags and asked if we'd been shopping. She stated that she would prepare a table and my friend followed. There was no 'barging' in as claimed. When my friend requested a drink without ice for herself and her son, she apologized to the waitress for the inconvenience. She was not rude to her. It was also not mentioned at the time that this may incur an extra charge. Had this been mentioned, an obvious solution would be to remove the ice and just return the juice. This option was not offered to my friend though it was later claimed that it was. When the waitress explained that decision had been made to charge for two drinks by the manager, my friend then asked to speak to the manager herself. There was no abuse aimed at this waitress. I feel as though the word 'abusive' is a strong word to use against a customer who has not so much as raised their voice to you, or swore or used foul language in any way. I did not hear the entire conversation between my friend and the manager as this took place over the phone, which I thought was odd. My friend was informed at this point that our order had been cancelled. I was never addressed personally in regards to the cancellation of our order, despite the fact that I was a paying customer too and it was also my food that was cancelled. I had been nothing but polite to the serving staff and the cancellation of the order seemed like an overreaction to what had actually happened. Even after being told that the order was cancelled, I still tried to calm down the situation by offering to pay for any drinks we had had up until this point. After initially being presented with a bill of £49.50 for food which we hadn't even received, I clarified with the waitress that we'd had no food and was then told that I owed nothing. Previously we had been told that the issue with replacing a drink for one with no ice was wastage and the cost to the business so this didn't make much sense. This whole experience was unpleasant and I feel like it was badly handled. I don't know how it escalated to the level that it did when the initial request for no ice had not been asked rudely. Many assumptions were made about the motivations for doing this, requests for discounts or special treatment but I drank my tea without incident and offered to pay for it even after been asked to leave! Also the request was made for the drinks to be swapped for ones that didn't contain ice. It was a swap for a drink that hadn't even been drank from. To assume that the motive of doing so was some kind of ploy for a discount or something similar is unfair. My friend did not ask for this and I've never even visited here before.

Today was my first and last time I enter the place, the disgusting service I got made me cry on the way out of this unwelcoming place. Today I took my friend for a Christmas meal and told her how good the food was as I’ve been here many times before. As I entered the place I was asked at the door for how many people I said 3, the waitress said give me a few minutes and il give you a table, we happily waited, she gave me a corner table which we were happy with and we didn’t make any issue about it. As we sat down the waitress came up to us and asked what you would like to drink I said could I have one diet coke and one orange juice, and I also ordered mine and my 2 year olds food. As the orange juice came there was ice in the drink so I said to the waitress is it possible to not have ice she said ok and took the orange juice and got another one with no ice in. Again happy about that there were no issues what so ever. Next minute another waitress came from the back and said I’ve just spoken to the owner and she said i know have to pay for two orange juices, one that had ice in and one that didn’t have ice in, this was not mentioned to me when the waitress got the orange juice without ice in, so I was puzzled as to why they didn’t say that before bringing out the second orange juice, I even asked how much is it for the orange juice and if it’s possible to speak to the owner? So she spoke to me on the phone as she was not there, I explained to her about the issue with the orange juice and I said if that was the case then they could of just removed the ice from the original juice as it was for my 2 year old, the owner then said that option was offered to you, but it wasn’t and luckily my friend was sitting with me because she also said that was a lie, secondly the owner then blamed me saying I took the table that was suppose to be offered to people who go to the theatre, so I said I was given this table what does that suppose to mean? Jo the owner turned around and said your getting aggressive and your talking over me so I’m going to ring the kitchen and cancel your order. She hung up the phone, so I went to the till and the chef came out and said it’s the order from the owner and you need to get out! So I asked the waitress have I done something wrong? was I being aggressive? And the chef turned around and said to the waitresses not to speak to me, so I asked the chef again and she came across so horribly and kept telling me the owner had insisted you get out! I bursted out crying and bare in mind the food was ordered and I didn’t say anything to anyone, I was there in tears as I’ve just lost my grandad 4 weeks ago and am grieving so much, I just lost control of my emotions, my friend went to the till to pay for the drinks and was told she had to pay £49 but she said we haven’t eaten anything so why are we billed then she was told by the waitress the drinks are free too, so what was the issue with the ice in the orange juice? It could of just been removed. As I left crying the three waitresses were laughing at me till I exited the door, and I did not stop crying till I went to the bus stop, I am very shocked about the customer service and especially from the owner, they say customers come first and all I wanted was a nice meal with my friend but it totally hurt me how I was treated today, I would never expect this on anyone, and reading the reviews already on here just goes to show we’re customers stand, and customers are not right here, I had two different waitresses at the time and the one with glasses was really lovely, she served me without any issues but it was the other waitress and the chef and the owner who really disappointed me, and I swear I would never recommend anyone to visit this place otherwise you will end up feeling exactly how I am today. I walked out quietly but voices were raised at me like I done something so wrong, after all this I thought I will write a review to really tell customers what I went through today? and I will be taking this further, I promise to not let this go.

Yesterday was my second visit to the lovely restaurant Josephine's in Nottm with my husband for lunch. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our treat and meals both times. The first time we just called in on spec and although we could see the restaurant was very busy the lovely owners managed to accommodate us at a well positioned table near the front window. I booked for our second visit. The ambience is delightful and relaxing and both times we found all the staff very attentive and really pleasant. We had lovely food each visit and would totally recommend visiting. I shall definitely be booking another visit in the near future. So pleased I have found a fabulous independent place to eat in Nottingham City, I also like it I have the same name 😂 The proper tea served in proper bone china cups is a huge welcome too. Yesterday we chose the sundae desserts after chicken and chorizo meatballs on risotto with the posh cups of tea afterwards and all was lovely. So for fabulous food, lovely relaxing surroundings and lovely friendly staff who really look after you and make you feel special, go to Josephine's. Thank you everyone at Josephine's and Happy Christmas xx

Friendly staff, very accommodating from booking to throughout the afternoon tea. Clean and well looked after throughout. We had the petit afternoon tea, which was more than enough each. We were stuffed after. The mini and scones were lovely. It would have been nice if a refill of tea was given, a top up of boiling water isn’t a huge request. Not a massive issue at all though. The food, the staff and the presentation of the food made up for it. Gorgeous patisserie plate with little chocolate petals and fruit. Don’t read the whingey reviews further down. overall a lovely experience and I would recommend.

Very rude manager called Steve. We booked for a baby shower @ £30 per person and Jo confirmed that despite the pricing going up to £35 pp in October, they would honour the existing price. Despite this on the day they charged everyone £35. When I questioned this Steve denied that they had ever done the luxury afternoon tea for £30 - despite copies of the menu being online clearly stating that this was the previous price. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. I didn’t actually attend the tea room but my review is based on my personal experience dealings with the tea room. Edit: funny how you have changed your story.

Poor customer service - staff was rude, too inexperienced, disorganised. This is not a place that can cater for an occasion / a group of 4+ people really. The poor customer service aside, the venue is small, there is no designated area for a big group and so the atmosphere for both our group and other clients wasn't right. Silver lining - the food was good and they did cater for vegans / vegetarians. Having said that, it was expensive for what it was, £37 for an afternoon tea. I will not visit again or recommend.

Absolutely shocking breakfast. Visited Nottingham for two nights and before leaving to come home wanted a good breakfast. Found this place that looked ok . Ordered flat white and a cappachino. Both came out so hot they were not drinkable (poor training) milk is not supposed to be that hot for these drinks. The worst though were the breakfast. I had Eggs Royal at £14.50 The muffins were not even toasted so were soggy and unbelievably they used cooked salmon, NOT smoked salmon. In all my years I’ve never had that before. It was awful. Hollandaise sauce was ok. My wife had a vegetarian breakfast. Was ok apart from they thought it would be ok to serve a type of spicy indian style spinach burger or whatever they called it. It was also vile and very spicy, not at all suitable for a breakfast. Service was fine, however on mentioning to young girls that the eggs royal was not good and why, I was still charged £14.50. This place is def style over substance and on leaving noticed Copper (cafe) across the road which I’ve eaten in before and is great and only £10.50 for eggs royal. Just wish I’d seen it earlier. 100% wouldn’t return especially as the bill for an orange juice, 2 coffees and 2 breakfast was £43!! Def go across the road to Copper if looking for a decent well priced and tasty breakfast. Response to Josephine’s Response… I would just like to add that I didn’t at any point ask for a discount, I just explained the situation about the salmon, and secondly, you can even see in the pictures that it’s salmon! Not smoked salmon… it’s the wrong colour for smoked salmon and totally pink… so saying it’s not salmon is completely wrong. You’re right about the personal preference thing, I can understand that, but curried spinach and falafel burgers don’t belong on a breakfast IMHO. Coffee temperatures are something that trained in ANY decent coffee shop including chains and independents so just saying people like it hot shows you don’t have a clue what the best temperatures are for the coffees you serve… again that’s not personal preference but industry standard. https://freshground.co.uk/learning-hub/what-is-the-perfect-coffee-temperature/ Thanks for taking the time to replay though

This is the worst tearoom in Nottingham!! Customer service was absolutely appalling!! I visited Josephine’s today for a cream tea (scone with tea and jam, served with a side of fruit). Halfway through my meal I was disgusted to find ROTTEN FRUIT on my plate!! Absolutely appalling and not acceptable. When I told the owner Steve about this he was totally and utterly rude!! He responded with sarcastic comments, had an unprofessional anttitude and was outright disrespectful. He told me that it was not a “big deal” and “these things happen”. He then proceeded to compare being served rotten food by ‘supposedly’ trained chefs the same as buying a punnet of grapes in Tesco that were not fresh. To add insult to injury he repeatedly mocked me and made it clear he did not care that the hygiene and food standards of his establishment are not up to parr. Imagine telling a paying customer that being served rotten food is unavoidable and ‘easily missed by the chefs’. I was totally shocked. To make matters worse he kept on repeating ‘it was only half a grape’, which of course had no relevance since the grape in question was mixed in with other food items and may have contaminated them also. What if I had eaten that rotten item? It may have made me severely ill. He further mocked my concerns by saying that he would compensate me with one grape. Vile comment. What made the whole ordeal worse was Steve’s disgusting attitude. He was totally and utterly obnoxious!! If this is the attitude taken to serving ROTTING food to customers, I can only begin to imagine the monstrosities that must occur behind closed doors. Prior to this incident, my friend and I had to return the cups we were given due to them being dirty on the inside. Something which the table seated before us had to do too. Clearly a lot is ‘missed’ at this tearoom. I never take the time to write a review but I felt compelled to warm other people not to dine at this establishment (not that it deserves such a title). Steves attitude was honestly atrocious. He set no example for the staff members that were privy to our conversation. I do hope whoever reads this takes heed of my warning and dines somewhere else. Please also read the other 1 star reviews that detail Steve’s poor customer service and RUDE attitude. We cannot all be wrong. I could move past the ‘mistake’ but I cannot move past Steves rude words and manner. When I left the tearoom Steve (the owner) then said ‘go and write a bad review now, they all do’. Clearly they do Steve. I have read them. I have photographic evidence of the rotten item and have reported this incident to Nottingham City Council. In the meantime here is a list of tearooms in Nottingham that you should go to instead, where the staff are friendly and food is up to standard; Biscuit and brew The white rabbit tea room Fox cafe Delilah’s Derby Brian tearoom I repeat DO NOT under any circumstances visit Josephines tearoom. I only wish there was an option for zero stars. Best, Ava

Fabulous experience! We had the early bird breakfast for £5.99 which we had pre-ordered and paid for. I wasn't sure what to expect and was half expecting to be disappointed but it was fantastic. There was a lovely butchers sausage, bacon, 2 hash browns, baked beans, mushroom, grilled tomato, mini omelette and toast and butter. The beans were piping hot which was a relief as there is nothing worse than lukewarm beans! The tomato was soft and delicious and the bacon and hash browns were well done and not greasy. It was great to be proved wrong and I was so pleased that something that was relatively cheap turned out to be real value for money and worth three times the price. Had my head turned by the afternoon tea menu so will be coming back for that !

It was birthday treat and very impressive indeed. The Afternoon Tea is fabulously presented and perfectly served. The sweet treats and cakes are excellent. The Scones with Jam and Clotted cream are marvellous. The Sandwiches are nice too with interesting twists as in addition of Sausage roll and savoury pastry. The Pate with Pepper Salsa is unique and tasted lovely. The selection of Teas are wonderful and they are available to buy from the store. The staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is cosy with views of Nottingham Theatre Royal.

Have to thank this lovely independent business for a wonderful afternoon tea - I don’t think it could get any better. Proper vintage tea room with wonderful ambience, all finishing touches thought of and really friendly staff. Went above and beyond to add little extras as it was my friend’s birthday. Beautiful tea presentation and very yummy sandwiches, very generous filling and delicious cakes. Great place not sure it can be beaten for afternoon tea in the UK!

Amazing service and amazing food. I brought my son in a pram and even though it's a small place, the staff members were very accommodating. Even when after my wife told the staff about her allergies, one of the staff members made a mistake in giving my wife fish which she's very allergic to. When we notified the staff, they swiftly changed the food and were very apologetic. I did ask for another mocha, but I wasn't served it, but was still charged for it. But at that point I didn't say anything because I felt like the service needed a tip because it was an amazing experience. I pray this place is blessed and continues to be filled with grace by Allah.

Absolutely loved our meal at Josephine's before seeing a play at the Theatre Royal across the road. The food was delicious, the serving staff very friendly and attentive and we loved the general ambience. Thank you!

Went to Josephine's today for my birthday and whilst the atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were attentive we were absolutely appalled when our Halal afternoon tea arrived with a ham sandwich. As a Muslim, it is against our religion to eat any pork related meat. Realising there was pork meat after a couple of sandwiches on what should have been a halal plate turned our stomachs. When we pointed this out to the staff they were apologetic and offered a full refund for that particular afternoon tea. Staff need educating on how to prepare and ensure that Halal food does not contain non halal items. Extremely disappointed.

Josephine's was excellent. The staff are really lovely. We had breakfast there, and it was very good, and portion size is great. The interior is really pretty. The tea is fresh leaves and there are plenty of choices, you can also buy your favourite to take home. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely amazing experience! Went today to celebrate partners 60th birthday with a luxury afternoon tea each. From start to finish the whole thing was wonderful couldn’t have asked for anything more! The food was delicious especially the scones which were the best by far I’ve ever eaten! The presentation was beautiful and real care and attention had been given to make it look attractive. The surrounding are lovely, very nostalgic especially with the music that was playing, with a cosy and relaxed vibe. The service was absolutely top notch! It made a real change to go somewhere where the staff are polite and friendly without being in your face, but still very attentive and gave real customer service which is so lacking else where! First time visit today but will definitely be back sometime very soon in the new year. Contrary to what many people have written I think the prices reflect the quality of the food, presentation and service and was more than happy to pay £40 each. Would like to say a special thank you to the 2 girls that were working today they made it very special, thank you.

Table we asked for wasn't the one. To start off with. Put in an alcove 8 people sitting. uncomfortable and squahed. After a discussion with the Gentleman in charge. Eventually given the table 1st requested as promised. Staff friendly good service. Payment machine needs sorting very slow. Didnt work in the end. Ended up borrowing cash from a friend.

Nice place to get breakfast (however a bit on the expensive side of things). The food is great but you will certainly need to ask for your 5th pancake as written in the menu because they will justify only serving you 4 pancakes by saying they are "large pancakes that count as 6". Two meals should be around £26 and you could round that up to £30 if you add a drink on top of that. Would recommend this place.

Really lovely looking place. It looks really good from the outside and inside. Staff are friendly... However, the English breakfast was small in portion for the price. I understand it's a bougie place, but the quality of the food didn't come through. The hash browns weren't fully cooked. My partner ordered the vegetarian English breakfast and she got less food than me but the price was the same. We asked to swap the egg out as my partner is vegetarian and egg is not vegetarian in our religion. We got told that the egg could be swapped out for a hash brown. They bring the plate out with egg on it, and they just the the egg off instead of replacing the plate. My partner felt she didn't have a choice and didn't want to create a scene, so she had to eat around the bit where the egg was. At the end, when we went to pay, they tried to charge us extra for the hash brown, which they said they would swap for the egg. Sneaky. On any other day, we wouldn't have been fussed about the extra 50p. Normally, I don't leave bad reviews, but this time, I felt like I needed to share for anyone visiting this 4.6 star rated popular restaurant.

We recently had the pleasure of celebrating my wife's birthday with a high tea experience at Josephine's in Nottingham, and I must say it exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we stepped into Josephine's, we were transported to a world of elegance and charm. The atmosphere was simply enchanting, with delicate porcelain tea sets, beautiful ornament decorations, and classical music setting the perfect backdrop for our special occasion. The high tea menu at Josephine's was a culinary masterpiece. The tea selection was impressive, offering a wide variety of flavours to suit every taste. Our knowledgeable server guided us through the options and helped us make selections that suited our preferences perfectly. Pro tip - The Conghou Rose tea was my wife’s fav. The food was simply divine. The finger sandwiches were not only beautifully presented but also incredibly delicious. The scones were served fresh, warm, light, and served with the right clotted cream and preserves that were heavenly. And the pastries and desserts? They were a true work of art, both visually stunning and a delight to the taste buds. What truly made the experience exceptional was the impeccable service. The staff at Josephine's went out of their way to make my wife's birthday celebration special. They added extra decor to make the tea stands extra special. The message scroll service is a great idea and shows the thought (and effort) been put to make one feel special (and it’s free!). Our entire experience at Josephine's was nothing short of perfection. It was a harmonious blend of sophistication, delectable food, and attentive service. We left with our hearts full of gratitude for making my wife's birthday so extraordinary. We wholeheartedly recommend Josephine's to anyone seeking a high tea experience that's a cut above the rest. Thank you to the entire team at Josephine's for making my wife's birthday celebration a cherished memory. We can't wait to return! Warm regards, Amit

We visited for breakfast at about 11am on a sunday. I ordered the full English and my partner the salmon, spinach and eggs on toast. The tea was exceptionally good. But when the food arrived I was disappointed. The mushrooms looked sad and were tasteless I was told they were fresh but they tasted tinned. The badly poached egg was placed on the toast so once I retrieved it it was damp and covered in bean juice. Despite the price only one sausage and one slice of bacon. The fried potatoes felt like an afterthought. I would have sacrificed them for more protein. The hash brown was also luke warm. The stand out was the service which was attentive without being intrusive and they took my feedback with good grace.

I came here with two of my mates and we were not disappointed! Such friendly staff and the food…. WOW! Fresh, hot, perfect amount of spice, and so flavourful. We wanted to try something different and as someone who isn’t familiar with Korean food i still had a nostalgic feeling eating the food feeling like it was a home cooked meal made with love.
