Jones Fish Bar in Newport

Been going here for a couple of years was lovely, but it’s gone downhill massively… over cooked chips that could crack your teeth. It’s over price for the food you get. Just bin to large bags off chips. Waste of money

I went to Jones Fish Bar, just before 8.10pm. On 2/10/2024. The chips were the worse, I have ever had. They definitely were bottom of the barrel. And should not have been sold. They close at 20.30, so must had decided not to cook fresh chips. I won't ever go back. I would have taken them back. But by the time I would have got back. They would have been closed, disgraceful.

The best fish & chips in Newport gwent. Fish batter was crisp & the fish was white & extremely tasty Chips just right With good friendly staff who were happy to chat with customer also smiling faces worth the trip

Generally excellent. Excellent customer service. Food - the cod and chips, top notch, the homemade pies are superb, the extras such as mushy peas and chip shop curry sauces are always good quality.

Been coming for years, today though, fish soggy in the centre and chips overcooked and dry, very disappointed ☹️.......

We have enjoyed fish and chips from Jones fish bar before, but I was a bit doubtful about delivery after reading the most recent reviews. However, my craving for fish and chips overcame my doubt and I ordered online, I was given a delivery slot of 18.50 - 19.10. My order arrived at 19.00, freshly cooked, crispy batter, lovely chips, flaky cod, tasty curry sauce. We ate the lot! Absolutely delicious, will order online again.

Placed an order (paid for online, so they had our money), which we have done before & the order was late (not the first time), so called to see when it would arrive. I was told the order hadn't left yet as they only had one driver. 25 minutes after the later part of the delivery slot I called again. The woman I spoke to was rude & said about cancelling our order & refunding it, even though that is not why I called then the woman hung up on me. My husband called to see what was happening & the chap said the order would be delivered. I asked why I had been hung up on & he said because I kept calling (twice I rang). Also that I had shouted, which I can honestly say I didnt. He then said we should find somewhere else to order from as it wasn't the place for us. I have never had anyone be so rude all for asking where our paid order was. We will never use this restaurant again. Absolutely unprofessional behaviour from the staff.

Customer service is an absolute joke. Ordered fish & chips online for delivery, was given a time window which was not honoured. Asked my wife to chase up the order as there was no sign of it within time slot & 1st time was advised it would be sent out soon. After a further 25 minutes & still no food, my wife called back & woman said they would refund for the food & not deliver it, before hanging up on my wife. Talk about extremely rude. I then call to see what's going on with the order & the guy said it would be delivered, then accused my wife of raising her voice while he had a shop full of customers & hung up. When the food finally arrived it was cold & the fish was well below standard all stuck to the bag, tried calling back as this was unacceptable & they would not take my call. Will not be using this fish shop in future. My advice, keep clear of this place.

Best lunch of fish and chips I‘ve had in a long time. The fish was very fresh, perfectly fried and the portions generously sized. Next time I‘m in Newport, I‘ll definitely call in again.
