Normally I’m more of a “hearty fare” kind of diner and not really a fan of “fine diving” BUT John’s House is something rather special! From the moment you enter you are made to feel welcome and give exceptional personalised service. We found all of the staff to be a “cut above the ordinary” but most impressive by far is the food! Oh my word! How many exceptionally delicious things can one team pack onto a menu? Just SUPERB! Already booked in for our next visit!! Thanks John et al! A very memorable evening.

Appalling experience. Large live earwig in my pre-starter snack. About to put snack in mouth and out fell the earwig (alive) and went scurrying off. Maitre D handled the situation very badly and bizarrely told us all the produce was checked very carefully. Well it wasn’t was it? We politely asked, twice to speak to John (head chef and owner) who was “too busy” to come and talk to us. No suggestion as to how they might make the situation right or assure us it wouldn’t happen again. We walked out. Junior staff obviously embarrassed. Management and owner couldn’t care less. What a terrible lack of hygiene standards and customer service. Avoid. Unless you fancy earwigs.

Found a recommendation on r/Leicester and this is definitely the best fine dining place I've visited. It's my first Michelin star restaurant, which tells me I should earn more so I can try more of them. Everything was excellent, and many were unique as well. All the wait staff could answer questions about the dishes. Wine pairing included 6 glasses - I enjoyed the Francois Villard Viognier (which was enhanced by the cod) and Camin Larredya Juranco. Standout dishes were the Orkney scallops (raw and grilled) and Cornish cod (which would seem typical with its carrot sauce but was well executed). My favourite bits were the parts not on menu- the 3 small bites at the start and the petit four at the end. Would revisit l.

We went to John’s House yesterday for lunch and I couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed with the standard of service for a Michelin Star place. It just seemed a little bit disorganised to me. This is the third or fourth time we have been to John’s House and the food was excellent as usual, but I did feel that this time (I’ve never reviewed before) the service wasn’t quite there for me. I don’t think it was terrible by any means and I may be being a little pedantic but as I said, not to what I would expect for Michelin standard. Just very minor things that I noticed: the dish/plates that the bread was served in was left empty on our table for a very long time and we had waiters approach the table multiple times where they could’ve noticed and cleared it. They bought the starter far too quickly for me, whilst we were still nibbling on bread/settling in and there were crumbs all over the table (they did clear these later but it would have been nice to have a tidier table before starters) and finally, they were quite slow bringing drinks, felt like we waited a long time after ordering them before they arrived. However, I would absolutely recommend the rhubarb Collins and citrus martini mocktails, both were excellent. Anyway, overall a great experience and we are likely to go again but just needed a bit more attention to detail from a service aspect to just push it to 5 stars from me.

Exceptional experience at John's House for my birthday lunch from start to finish. This was my first Michelin experience and I was truly blown away. John's House is the perfect mixture of a sophisticated and elevated dining experience with a distinct family feel (the homely surroundings of the restaurant itself created a really relaxed atmosphere). The whole experience felt welcoming, intimate, and unpretentious, but at the same time the level of service and attention to detail left us feeling very special. We had the five course tasting menu for lunch and it was excellent in every regard - the food was incredible, the staff were attentive, and we left with a massive smile on both our faces. The Bradgate deer was particularly good - I'd never had deer before and it was fantastic. I would thoroughly recommend John's House to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience - we hope to be back again very soon!

Such a fantastic place, the food is incredible…and something like 80% of it is locally sourced or grown at the farm. My partner doesn’t like fish, and they were extremely accommodating in editing the menu to swap out any fish elements. Be sure to speak to them when you book a table. The service is brilliant, so warm and friendly and they love talking about the food! There’s no stiff/serious/unapproachable-ness of your ‘Michelin star’. The atmosphere is lovely, cosy and calm. It’s such a gorgeous place, we love coming here!

Yesterday we spent £117 for a mediocre 3 course lunch. The starters were fine but pork belly , where the cut is 50% fat and the accompanying items ( except for the mushrooms) didn’t add much to the dish - did not impress. Then my rice pudding dessert was more like a porridge with an overpowering spoonful of strong chocolate ice cream - wasn’t nice! Amusingly our waitress noticed that I’d tried a spoonful of my husband’s dessert and asked me which one I preferred. Do I told her I just didn’t like mine! Lovely location/ setting ( we did discover the farm shop ) but such a disappointment! Oh , the bread and butter was delicious!

My wife and I chose John's House for our special Christmas celebration, and it was an experience filled with both remarkable highlights and a few disappointments. The Michelin-starred journey through culinary excellence was undeniably the pinnacle of our visit. The chef's creations were nothing short of spectacular, each dish a testament to culinary mastery and artistry. The sommelier's selections perfectly complemented the flavors, enhancing the overall dining experience. The waitstaff added a layer of warmth and attentiveness that elevated the evening. Their knowledge and enthusiasm were commendable, guiding us through the courses with grace and professionalism. However, our experience hit a snag when the restaurant manager insisted on the fixed 7-course menu without offering any alternatives. Her approach felt rigid and lacking in understanding for guests' preferences, which was disappointing given the restaurant's reputation for hospitality. Another aspect that detracted from the otherwise serene atmosphere was a large, boisterous table amidst mostly couples. Their exuberance disrupted the tranquility of the evening, dampening the intimate ambiance that many patrons likely sought. In essence, John's House is a culinary haven, a place where gastronomic dreams come true thanks to the chef's expertise and the sommelier's guidance. However, there's a need for the management to be more accommodating and flexible in addressing guests' preferences regarding menu choices. Additionally, maintaining a harmonious atmosphere, especially on special occasions like Christmas, would greatly enhance the overall experience for all diners.

Have been going for years but did not have the best experience today. I thought it's cos we only ordered the set menu and also no expensive wine this time, but when this suited manager greeted / checked on every table in the room with excessive and exaggerated enthusiasm except for our table, I knew we were being consciously excluded. Apart from this, the team has been great and food is still value for money (bit salty but with the cost of everything rising, set menu of £45 per person is still reasonable to me). Shame won't be going back as I will not be dining somewhere that I feel unwelcome or judged.

A five course tasting menu £75 or the three courses £45 which we had. We ordered one of each choice. (As you do)🤣 The Lightly smoked Loch Duart Salmon was one of the best Salmon dishes we have had in quite a while. The Stonehurst Tamworth Pork was outrageous, both in size and delicious and very filling. You also get a little snack and bread included, which makes Michelin dining very reasonable. Everything was beautifully presented, and service was impeccable. You can see why they have retained their Michelin ⭐️ since 2015. Managed to have a quick chat with the man himself, Chef John Duffin, absolutely charming.

The service was good although we did have to prompt for more water and chase drinks The main reason for the three stars is the main reason you go to a restaurant, the food. There were quite a few of us in our party, having a selection of dishes. Some very good feedback was heard, but there was also feedback about some of the dishes being over seasoned. I had a similar problem with both my starter and main. Would I go back again? I am not sure. Tell the staff, no compassion, no comment?? Broken crockery, handle missing on hot plate. No response?? What an expensive disaster. Absolutely divine. We had the 7 course tasting menu, every dish was art on a plate and we ran out of superlatives to describe them towards the end settling with just 'wow' ! The 'snacks' served with pre-drinks were delicious and totally unexpected. The wines were exceptional. The front of house staff were so polite, careful and attentive. It's clear the whole team love what they do. If you haven't been yet I would say it's an absolute must! Thank you for a fantastic birthday meal (3rd time lucky, thanks to covid!), we will be back.
