This place sell nice food it tastes really good but doesn't look like its been cleaned for years ( it's filthy) I find the staff really miserable but like I say the food tastes good

Lovely guy and very warm welcome! Drove for HOURS and was sadly disappointed with the food. When my friend and I visited once before the food was sooooo good we promised Johnny we’d return... We won’t eat there again unless Johnny has cooked the food. 😔😔😔

Visited on my way home. I love my jerk chicken and have eaten in many venues. As you will see, I am no stranger to trip advisor reviews! I had a “large” portion with nice rice and peas and basically most of an o massively overcooked breast of chicken, one wonders what a small portion would be. Staff are pleasant enough, lots of choices of things on sale but after the chicken dish I won’t be returning sadly despite jerk chicken being one of my favourite foods

I can’t believe this place is still ‘cooking’ Caribbean food. Had the misfortune to go here a few years’ back where they had the audacity to charge for a portion of curry goat bones! Any West Indian person knows YOU DO NOT DO THIS! It’s an insult and disrespectful. We always give ample portions and are hospitable. It’s part of our culture to make sure people are well fed. Something they quite clearly know nothing about. Another thing West Indians are high on is HYGIENE. They have a ‘one star’ hygiene rating which says it all. Please Do not go here if you want authentic Caribbean food there are other quality West Indian restaurants locally. I’m Jamaican descent and can guarantee if you know you’re food or want to try our food this is NOT the place to go!

That hit the spot! I’ve forgotten how powerful Johnny’s was! No “fusion” nonsense, just beautiful home cooked meals. Curry goat was superb (love the bone sucking) I just wish I had gone for a large.

My friend and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed, starters of Salt Fish Fritters and Dumpling. Jerk Chicken and Rice, with Coleslaw and vegetables; Curry Mutton and Rice with Coleslaw and vegetables. Definitely worth every penny and we are looking forward to returning to Southend for the wonderful attractions and eating at Johnny’s #1 Caribbean Hut!! Thank you for making out Sunday meal incredibly delicious!

We had a lovely dining experience at Johnny’s this evening. myself and my boyfriend both had jerk chicken and it was amazing, portion sizes were extremely generous and the taste was unreal. The staff were so lovely and even let us sample their vegan curry. We can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Absolutely delicious food. I’ve been going there for years, consistently good food, I never miss an opportunity to visit when I go to the area. Good size portions, as I travel a way to get home, They leave it so that I can warm it up when I get home, I have recommended to lots of family who are in the area, who are also now regulars.. I have tried a selection of his menu which is all good. I personally love the Jerk Chicken meal best. Definitely give them a go.

I ordered curried chicken and jerk wings, curried goat with rice and beans. Both delicious, full of the Caribbean flavour I remember from Jamaica. The owner is back from this weekend 7 days a week.

Johnnys food is amazing and flavoursome. The portion size is excellent, and the staff are very nice! They once found me to return my phone that I left in the shop

The food is excellent here,not had a bad meal from here been using it for a good while and will have him as a outside catering when things get back to some sort of normality

When cooked right this is my favourite dish in the whole world. I have tried it at so many different places but today I have had the worst of the lot ☹️ No little potatoes, no peppers no spice just perfume. Now decided to stop buying it from anywhere other than Johnnys No 1 as it truly is the best authentic curried goat I’ve tried outside of Jamaica 🇯🇲 Never once has it been anything other than 5 stars and I’ve eaten there ALOT. 😋

Johnny is always happy, so it's always a joy to visit. Mainly takeaway but i like to sit in for a spot of lunch. A portion of Goat curry, rice & peas with veg is so satisfying & delicious!! I really must try something else as it all looks so good. I've promised myself that next time it will be Jerk chicken or Salt fish & Akee..... In the last week on separate occasions I've taken my brother & wife for their first visit & both love it & will be back.It's not a fancy shop but I don't care I go there because the food is great.
