I've visited John Dory's twice now and the food is lovely! It's my boyfriend's favourite chippy around and now it's been taken over by new ownership they offer gluten free! Which is so good that they cater for now as usually I'd miss out and have to eat elsewhere. They can do cod, jumbo sausages, chicken breast and a few other options too. The battered jumbo sausage was lovely and it's fried in with the chips so it's all gluten free. Well informed staff who take care to avoid cross contamination. And went and checked to see if the vinegar is gluten free, which it is! Thank you John dory's!

Brilliant service food atmosphere and customer service. A very wide range of chippy food menu. This is now my go to chip shop when we're down this end. Been here twice in 2 days 10 out of 10 See you again

Hadn't been here for months but will definitely be back soon had a large fish and standard chips for a good price all cooked to order and they tasted lovely

I’ve not been this way for a while but couldn’t resist going in. The 2 ladies were very busy cooking and serving. The lady serving was great she double wrapped my fish and chips without my asking. I got home to discover a lovely piece of cod sat on some yummy chips. I will be back soon.

One of the best fish and chips shops in Penzance.

One evening this week I popped in for some fish and chips. The food was not to bad could of been cooked a little bit better, due to the number of people ordering the chips were a little on the greasy side. All this to one side I would buy from again. The reason for the one star is because of the way that one member of staff was talking to the young lad that works in there, it was obvious that he was nervous around her which was making him feel uncomfortable. I was shocked to hear her say in front of a packed place comments like are you that stupid, are you incapable of working this, can you not understand simply instructions, ect ect. If this person is only the manager then I would recommend that the owner sends her on a customer service and staff course, if this person is the owner may be employing people and working with them is not for her, I would recommend that she works on her own.

Old fashioned fish and chips cooked in beef dripping. Ideal if that's your thing or what to relive the 80s

Fish was freshly cooked and good, chips were generous portions of reheats. Atmosphere? It's a take-away!

Doesnt even deserve a 1 star, awful grumpy service on tuesday night. Chips were tasteless (how the hell os that even managed) aparently there was salt and vinegar on them!!?? Forgotten my curry sauce, and the chips were so greasy if you squeezed them oil would dripp out!! Only decent things were the sausages. Definitely avoid!!

Addded up what my bill should be -£25.50, the girl on the till said £27.50, when I questioned it she said the cod had gone up because, 'everything's going up these days' - the menu board didn't reflect this. Ordered 1 large and 1 small cod - seriously no difference in size, both tiny. Would not recommend, terrible value for money

The chips were pale, undercooked and not very appetising. Fish was good and batter was light and crispy, which saved the meal for me. All tasted of beefy oil which is not nice as I'm not a meat eater!

BEEF DRIPPING only so no chips for vegans or vegetarians...shame as staff friendly enough and prices looked good

Fish was way over cooked with hardly no batter and the batter that was on the fish was burnt. The chips were under cooked, dripping in grease and tasted like dirty chip fat. The young lad serving seemed like he didn’t know wether he was at work or at home, they have a sign saying cash preferred but when paying they didn’t have enough change in the draw to cover my change so ended up telling them to keep the difference, the gravy tasted like Asda gravy granules. I honestly wouldn’t recommend anyone eating here. 0/10

Terrible experience. Miserable staff. Youngster taking orders said she wanted to go home after starting at 4 30 and the time was 7 30 when i ordered. Overcharged by £5 and had to say to get a refund. Chips we could not eat were grey and horrible. Not recommeded at all. Charge for a plastic bag with advertising on it without asking if you want it.

Not the best chip they said it was cooked to order fish already done over large cod is a small if you come from up country very greasy and staff not very welcoming it’s lucky it got two stars

Chips were a bit like rubber & although the fish itself was really nice it was let down massively by the soft greasy batter. Not a bit of crunch to it at all. Was left very disappointed after reading some fantastic reviews. Im hoping it was just an off day for the place

Superb service and brilliant fish and chips. The best haddock I have ever tasted and at 70 years young that’s saying something. Highly recommended.

Undoubtedly the smallest piece of fish I’ve ever received anywhere, would be better described as fish finger and chips rather than fish and chips. What was there tasted good but not somewhere to go if you like a generous portion!

Just stopped for a cod and scraps after a day in the sea. Oh wow, fresh, plump juicy cod with light crispy golden batter. Highly recommended I will be back as soon as possible.

Friendly staff, never disappoints

It is necessary to place order then wait outside so as to comply with coronavirus restrictions. Once order is ready ,one is called in to pay and collect. Frying must be be carried out in a mixture of oil and beef dripping as everything has a wonderful taste.

Is this the worlds smallest portion of peas? Bought a couple of portions of chips'n' mushie-peas, received them all wrapped up to go, got home and opened them while wondering what the white polystyrene thimbles were for? Lo and behold they were in fact about 1/2 full of mushies! Literally a spoonfull in thete. Chips nothing to write home about either. Certainly wont be using them again.

A pretty good fish and chip shop. Always clean, the staff friendly. Portions are not a bad size. Star lost as this shop is not recognised by the MSC as the fish are not sustainably caught. On the positive side, all takeaways now served in cardboard containers rather than polystyrene. Although they are waxed or have some kind of barrier to prevent leakage from the fat so they can't be recycled, they will at least break down easier and give less toxicity at the point of wastage.

Best chips ever And even better staff so friendly and helpful. I got to feed a few kids plus my self and they was so kind and passionate to me with my kids order as they are picky eaters. So thank you and will be coming a lot more from now on.

Food is as dry as ghandis flip flops. Can't cook burgers or sausages. Go to Seaview instead

Very friendly and helpful staff. Very tasty fish if a little on the small side. Burger good with nice roll and plenty of salad.

Twice I have been here in the last few months, should of learned my lesson first time. The chips were cooked in the same oil as the fish had been, made the chips awful. Thought I would give it a second chance, wish I hadn't, the batter on the fish was soggy, the chips were a joke, so small in size and the portion was only good enough for a child. They won't be getting a 3rd chance. Do yourselves a favour and drive to somewhere better.

A fantastic local fish and chip shop. The food here is scrumptious. Generous sized portions for the money you pay. The staff are welcoming and friendly and go out their way to help you. They also do local deliveries.
