Joel's in Bradford

We were so disappointed - the food was not special and the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere. The room temp was too low, the lights were too bright and the decor was just plain. The food was just ... ordinary and didn't justify the price tag. I don't know if we caught it on a bad night but I doubt if we'll go back - there are much better options in Ilkley

Not entirely sure I know what this restaurant is trying to be in terms of the food offerings. The menu is very confusing. The prices were very hard to read due to the font size and colour of text. Took over half an hour for the food to arrive. Everything, including the chips, was so salty that it was unpleasant to eat. I would not go back there if it stays as it is.

Outstanding food cooked authentically. Really great addition to the area. Great kids menu. Exceeded our expectations and highly recommend a visit.

Really poor evening meal. Food was really nice and I can't fault that. The wings were huge! However. The service was appalling. Waited a good 20 mins before having to call over a server after arrival, no sign of drinks or even thinking about taking our order. It then took over 2 hours for our mains to arrive. Turned out they'd clearly forgotten to put our ticket in. It wasn't even that busy. Then to top it off no apology from manager/owner as we left. Very disappointing for what was meant to be a nice birthday meal out.

Went here for a roast, the cauliflower cheese was delish, however everything else was just a little disappointing sadly. I got the celeriac roast. Firstly, the Yorkshire puddings were undercooked, not crispy at all. The gravy was way to sharp and had a funny taste to it, so considering they dosed like the whole plate with it, it just wasn’t that nice. They only gave one carrot on the entire plate aswell, and I don’t know considering how expensive it was I was expecting i but more of a thoughtful plate of food. Beer was nice and from a local brewery, but be prepared to pay £6.90 (!!) for a pint. Meat looked good and well cooked on my friends plate but honestly I don’t think I’ll be paying another visit anytime soon.

An excellent meal, great value and the flavours were out of this world. Thanj you lots, see you again!

Lovely spot for a drink. Best to go with the German ales, not so much the sparkly or rose. Reasonable prices.

The venue, food, and staff are all on point. The food was delicious and clearly freshly prepared. Their cocktails were also very well made and worth trying!

Overall the service was sub standard. The house chicken was raw in the middle with blood. Chef or staff provided no response. Requires significant improvement. Won’t be going back nor would recommend.

Best Sunday roast in the area. Chairs are a bit uncomfortable and service can be a bit 50/50, but definitely worth it for the food.

The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were great and looked after our large group of 11 excellently. The atmosphere was relaxed, the interiors are beautiful. The plates were stunningly presented, flavours were fab, we weren't rushed. There're options to have multiple small plates or a starter / main / dessert, they're very flexible and there's plenty of choice - no issues even with more picky eaters in our group. Host were accommodating of a member of our group with a nut allergy. We had a lovely time and will definitely be back. It's a real Ilkley gem.

First visit to the restaurant today. We had been before for the Bini/Joel’s pop up this summer and wanted to try the actual Host experience for a sit down meal. Very good overall, we came for the Sunday lunch and it ived up to the high expectations we had.

Sadly a disappointment. My wife enjoyed the visit but I felt the menu was limited with a very poor offerring and will not return.

Joel's Chicken is amazing. Shame its only on now and again but it's the best fried chicken in wharfdale, arguably.

Visited Host today for Sunday lunch and, as always, it was amazing. Certainly the best in Ilkley and beyond. Michelin rated and it shows. We had roast beef and it was served to perfection as were all the sides. Nice outdoor seating area as well now that the summer months are coming. This is a strong recommendation.

So disappointed, we were expecting great food in a convivial place. What we got was a good menu and a party of 5 year olds at the next table. This is so clearly not a kid’s restaurant-no childrens food and no entertainment for them-crayons etc. so I dont know why we’d be expecting it (which is what we were told when we complained).. it’s super inappropriate to charge people these prices and not give them a heads up that there’s this kind of booking right next to them. My parent are hard of hearing and we couldn’t hold a conversation once this party arrived, our seats were jostled, balloons kept popping. Upwards of a hundred quid for lunch you don’t expect “if you don’t like it don’t come back” to be sneered at you. Shame on that waitress.

Good food although we were a little disappointed by the lack of choice on the menu. I must also point out that the decor in the restaurant is absolutely beautiful, however, it is somewhat ruined by pop hits playing on the radio in the background (lazy - some lounge music work a lot better). Also a bit expensive, hence the 3 stars.

Lovely staff and service (hence 3 stars overall) but looking at the food photos from other reviews I'm wondering if they are the same restaurant. The servings were small and presentation poor. It was the least value for money meal I have had for quite some time. Taste wise the dishes didn't manage to live up to the potential of their menu description.

Got the midweek barbeque special with belly pork, which was superb. Such a great deal for £12 including a glass of wine.

Absolutely fantastic. Hope it grows popularity with customers as happy as us… Service: super knowledgeable on the menu, including wine - and properly fun and attentive. Food: slightly daunting menu at first glance deciding what to order for a group, but ask (see service above) - for recommendations and amazing and appropriately timed dishes followed. Winner! Drinks: Winner!

Fantastic, inventive food and great vegetarian choices

Excellent shared dining. Buy lots of small plates and share them between everyone at the table. The buttermilk chicken is ace.

The most amazing meal and fantastic value for money. Everything from the service to the drinks to the menu was just perfect. We will be back.

Amazing food and would definitely recommend on this front. The staff are also lovely, however, it really feels like this place is understaffed as the service is really slow. We would have definitely ordered dessert but had to forgo it as our parking was expiring after 3 hours.

Guys were great and making the most of a bad situation with covid...nice warm beef and pork sandwiches...

Fantastic evening, quality food and great service

Yet again a great meal from the really friendly team at Host. I’ve yet to be brave enough to eat out but have been kept really well fed with takeaways over lockdown by a number of Ilkley’s great restaurants, in particular Host. Last night I had the fantastic cauliflower curry and can highly recommend!

We used Host’s new takeaway service in lockdown, and highly recommend it! We’ve eaten in the restaurant too, and the standard is just as high. Excellent, creative, fresh dishes, and good value for money too.

If you want passion for food and unbelievable flavours then look no further than Host. The owner catered for our vegan needs and created something beyond divine. I'm already thinking about the next time. Thank you for making a birthday meal so special.

Top rate restaurant, a more formal experience, worthy of an occasion. Food, we found was well prepared and had the occasional different twist. The staff were young and well trained. Not too intrusive. A worthy addition to the cut throat eating out market in Ilkley. Not cheap, but probably worth it.

Been here twice. Really good. Come up from London to see family and will keep coming here.

Went to host for dinner with a party of 6. We liked the initial meet and greet and the ambience was pleasantly friendly and relaxed. 2 of us ordered 3 dishes, the rest 2. We were a party of mainly veggie and fish eaters with one guest ordering 2 meat dishes. We asked for the food to all come out as soon as it was ready but mainly together. It took nearly an hour for the first dishes to appear and there were no meat dishes. The first meat dishes appeared after 1hr20 so that guest was pretty hungry. 2 dishes were then missing from the order and had to be bought out later. The restaurant wasnt busy. The food quality was generally good, particularly the veggie. However, the chicken was superior Kentucky fried chicken and the steamed fish balls were pretty mediocre. The portion sizes varied. Some were starter sized, most were fine dining starter sized. Combined with the dish prices this meant the food should be fine dining, getting close to Michelin star, quality and it really wasn't. We were now 2hrs into our meal, had spent £110 on food (not including drinks) and were all still very hungry but unwilling to spend more with the restaurant after what we had experienced so far. We went home and I made a risotto for us all. It was at least as good as what we were served there, probably better.

This is my second visit to the Host for Sunday lunch. My has this place raised its game since my last visit - 45 day mature beef was stunning , the gravy to die for - rich in flavour and the quality of the veg - perfect. The Yorkshire pudding beautifully light, crisp (and satisfyingly large 😊) The quality of the wine and drinks are excellent. The menu is limited but represents excellent quality. Will definitely be back.

Chose Host after reading about it in the Yorkshire Post where it gained a well deserved 5 stars for everything. We had a fabulous lunch choosing to share our snacks, small plates, flatbreads and puddings so each had eight different, 'tastes'. Excellent service from our waiter and the maitre d ensured the meal arrived at our pace. A return visit will be a must the next time we are in Ilkley.

Lacking a little in atmosphere when we went, but made up by absolutely delicious food, great service and lovely wine all reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend. The pork shank was completely divine.

Best roast I've had outside of my mum's house

Fantastic food, great service. Everything you would expect from a quality restaurant. Joel Monkman and his team are absolutely outstanding - well worth a visit no matter how far you have to travel.

I was very excited when I heard about Joel Monkman's venture at Host and needless to say my trip down from Glasgow was well worth it! From the moment you walk in the door you realise that quality and attention to detail are the names of the game here: the decor is tasteful and modern, the surroundings strike the right balance between casual and formal, the service is on point and food outstanding. We were there for Sunday roast and highlights included: the monkish fritters, roast cauliflower, maple glazed celeriac, buttermilk chicken and roast beef with accompaniments (the best meat I've ever had)! If it was not for the + 3 hour drive, I'd be a regular! Congrats fella.

I went here on a Sunday just the other week. Neither myself, nor my Aunt were impressed by the roast dinner. It had not been cooked well. Also the meal came with a tiny bit of gravy and we were told we would have to pay an extra charge for more. There was so little gravy though. Surely more should be put on. The decor is nice.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal on New Year's Eve at Host. Absolutely delicious 8 course tasting menu, every course a winner! Highlights were the two vegetarian dishes, so tasty, and an incredible piece of beef. Along with great wines and a very reasonable price, I'd highly recommend. We'll be back again soon, maybe for the Sunday Roast.

Brilliant new restaurant opening! Dined at Host, Ilkley last week and I can't recommend it highly enough - delicious modern british sharing plates of food - every dish was exciting, interesting and packed full of flavour. The service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself is both stylish and comfortable. Can't wait to return to try some of the other dishes on the menu. Seriously good!
