Service was absolutely superb.The restaurant was running fifteen minutes late but the waitress told us immediately, but because they told us up front that was OK.The wait was well worth It, the food was absolutely superb and thanks to all the supporting staff and especially Charlotte who was very polite and courteous, she made our night with her bubbly attitude.Would recommend to anyone, can’t fault the total experience!

We have visited the Allerthorpe golf club restaurant,jj's of Pocklington, before and had such a lovely meal.This time we brought our guests who were impressed with the choices on the menu and lovely restaurant,but it all went downhill after that.We were served by a robot, a very miserable short blonde lass/ponytail....who totally made us feel stupid for making conversation with her unless it was an order, definitely a tumbleweed moment there,the rest of the staff were so pleasant and nice so this person was the odd one out in the team.Anyhow when our meals arrived,although tasty enough all our meat dishes were overdone and dry and not a runny egg yolk in sight!..we decided amongst us not to order anything else and was waiting for our friends to finish their drinks when our robot waitress took our glasses away and we felt we were being kicked out,so after an hour and a half we left.Felt a bit embarrassed we'd brought our friends here as it wasn't the best of experiences.

Came for lunch with some girls-friends the first time since lock down. Service was very lacking, possibly due to inadequate staff training. Pleasant enough, however not good enough at their roles, Ordered a salad with chicken, bacon and haloumi, very large portion. The chicken was coated in some kind of crumb which didn't seem to go with the salad. Strangely for a salad it was very heavy and left me feeling like I'd had three portions of stew and dumplings !!! Not in a rush to return .

Came into jjs bar & kitchen the other week, service was great thanks to our waitress mia, she was very helpful and so lovely to talk to!! Portion sizes were great and worth the money will definitely be coming again.

We decided to eat here as had enjoyed the food when in Pock and had a large menu. Unfortunately there were issues with both meals. The ribs were extremely dry and overcooked. The corn on the cob did not appear fresh, chewy not crunchy. I did complain at the end of the meal but no action was taken. It was fine as I should have mentioned it earlier but will not be visiting again. My husband has been ill today with the only thing he ate differently being a burger at the restaurant. Obviously can't say for sure but definitely not risking another visit due to quality of the food.

The portion sizes are good and there is a big choice on the menu. We had to wait about half an hour for the food to arrive and it wasn’t very busy. Chicken was over cooked and dry. Fries very good

Decided to go out for a meal with the family and had some excellent food! The service was great, our waitress Alicia was brill. Definitely coming back.

We visited here as a family at the start of our lodge week. We had a wonderful meal and drinks. Portion sizes were massive and we were most definitely full! Staff were lovely and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We sat outside and paid for everything upfront as is their policy which we totally understood. Made leaving easier as we didn’t have to wait for the bill!Thank you again for a great dining experience.

We had three back to back evening meals and breakfast. The food was sensational with a wide variety of choice. Exemplary service from Tasha who was so lovely. Chef David who cooked me a special meal for my 60th birthday and David the manager who arranged everything. Kudos to those who made my 60th birthday very special.

Spent a week at Allerthorpe in a lodge and everything about it was excellent, after eating breakfast and most evening meals at JJ's we have to say the food is fantastic, portions are large, taste sensational, great variety and topped off by amazing waiting staff and management, all of them have time for you are very pleasant and the service quick, efficient and professional. The staff should be proud of what they do here and a lesson to many others, thank you all !

We had drinks before then dinner here on a weekday early evening. From the start, service was attentive and professional (thank you Grace!) The quality and quantity of food from an extensive menu was top class. I am Coeliac and need to be Gluten free but this was well catered for. Highly recommended!

Fantastic food extremley good quality and the portions are definitley not shy ones so make sure you dont eat breakfast as you will not eat it all 😊 waitress service efficient and friendly and kept checking on us if we needed more drinks or anything.

We tried JJs out as we were staying on site. Appeared busy for a Monday night which was a good sign. Service was good and the restaurant lovely. We had the ribs and burgers. No complaints and very filling. Please open one in Suffolk!!

Went for a meal with my Dad and it was a brilliant experience! The restaurant is set in beautiful surroundings and the interior is tasteful and modern! Beer is lovely and well kept!Now onto the food! Delicious ribs but all the other food looked good too!! As you can see from the photo the portion size is very generous!! Service was fantastic and all staff very friendly and Covid safe!All in all I’d definitely recommend a visit!!

I have eaten here on several occasions and JJs has gone from strength to strength. I personally think these comments are from a competitor that's not do so well.

The food at this place is amazing. We have been a few times now and never been disappointed. I can definitely recommend the brisket chilli dog. Service has been fantastic at every visit, always made to feel welcome even when we wanted to move tables mid visit from the shade into the sun.

I treated my parents to their first post lockdown lunch at the Allerthorpe site of JJs and they absolutely loved it. The prawn tempura was so tasty and a perfect starter.Mum had the Greek Salad and Dad the German Currywurst. It was the best currywurst since leaving Germany. The food was outstanding and the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Will definitely be returning very soon. Keep up the good work JJs

I have to say, eaten all over the world and the ribs I had at JJ’s were amongst the top 5 of any ribs I have ever eaten.smoked in house, and cooked to perfection, meaty and succulent with an excellent spoken flavour. Ribs that you do not find in the generic chains.I also have to say that the portion was so big that I could not eat all that accompanied it, great food and great place to eat.We were also asked to pay on order as we were sat outside, this is not a criticism of the establishment, I absolutely understand the policy, only necessary because some people leave without paying. For the previous critic, I am also brown and was asked to pay up front, it was not because I am brown, it is because there are dishonest people about who take advantage of hospitality.Well done JJ’s.

Despite obviously having an ongoing busy Saturday, the staff were attentive and timely. Relaxed pre drinks rolled into the evening meal. This was pretty fantastic actually. My only complaint would be .........there was no room for pudding!

JJ's at Allenthorpe Golf ClubOn recommendation we visited this place for breakfast. On arrival we were told breakfast had finished. The waitress said the lunch was worth waiting for. We waited and were told by this Geordie (only for indentification purposes) waitress that we had to pay up front because other people had done a runner. We saw other people had not been asked to pay up front.We confronted the waitress about this and she said it was because the two ladies sitting together on the table next to us had opened a tab. After the waitress had left I asked the two ladies and they said they had not been asked to pay upfront and found the request strange. So it was clear this waitress had lied to us. I was the only brown person out of all the customers. I found what the waitress had done offensive and rascist.My partner asked the waitress when giving her order that she specifically wanted crispy bacon. My partner's dish was awfull and the bacon was full of under cooked bacon with lots of rind still on it. My partner explained to the waitress about the bacon being undercooked and her meal generally but the waitress did not offer an apology or an explanation.This was a very poor experience with waiting staff that lie to customers. We will definitely not need going again. Funny how this matter comes up in conversation with family and friends!!

Brilliant place to eat. Food superb and the service was excellent. Been today and going again on Weds for tea. Definitely recommend it.

Visited today for Sunday lunch with my parents. Felt very safe dining her, despite Covid. Staff remind you to track and trace upon arrival and a hand sanitisation station - tables are also well spaced. All 3 of us had the roast dinner, a great variety of meats to choose from with all the trimmings. We had Lamb, and beef. It was nice having the option to have half and half. Staff were very attentive and friendly, quick service. Will definitely be coming back to try the full menu.

Went last night for a family meal. As always quality was amazing and service fantastic. It’s great that Dave comes out and asks for feedback. The addition now is the new app for serving making it amazingly safe for all attending and serving. Don’t have any doubts in this uncertain time of attending it’s safe and still has an atmosphere and great food.

Visited tonight after been recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing but the service was incredible. We had Cj serving us and he was such a fantastic host and a credit to the place. Can't wait to come back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

JJ's Bar & Kitchen in Pocklington has been one of our favourite restaurants for ages and we have really missed it during lockdown. However, they are currently offering all the same fantastic food and drinks at Allerthorpe and it was great to be back there last weekend. The staff are as friendly and attentive as ever and we felt perfectly "Covid-safe" throughout our visit. The menu included all the old favourites but there are still some gorgeous specials to try too. The Mac'n'cheese burger was fantastic (although I'll have to go for something smaller next time!) One of these days, I'd like to get as far as trying a dessert!

Went as a group of three. Had a variety of meals, 1 hummus burger, 1 schnitzel, and 1 pizza burger. All enjoyed the food, good food portions, good service. Very easy to find, huge car park so no issues there, They do takeouts. We will be back!

I treated my parents to Sunday lunch this week at the Allerthorpe golf club and country park (JJs at the Pheasant), it was possibly the best food we had ever tasted. My parents both had the roast lamb dinner and I had the roast beef and gammon. The lamb was tender and the beef melted in your mouth. I was able to choose how the beef was cooked, which is unusual for a Sunday lunch. The veg was so tasty and the roasties crispy and soft inside! We finished with a lemon possett and sticky toffee pudding, all i can say is wow. The staff were very attentive and we all felt very safe with the cleanliness. We were requested to sanitise on entry. There are 2 site for JJs so don't get confused which one you are going to, the food and staff are amazing at both sites, can't wait to return.

Served almost cold, skin forming on gravy. Slow roast leg of lamb was 2 gristly steaks that even a steak knife couldn't get through. Told two members of staff who didn't apologise or offer to help. VERY rare (not to my taste, not that I was asked). Asked for a portion of veg, was told there wasn't any!!!!!! When I queried this, some crushed peas (HOT!) were provided. Would have complained, but were with friends we hadn't seen for 2 years, didn't want to make a fuss. Our friend's child asked for tomato sauce with her pizza, was told they didn't have any - unbelievable... surely they could have sourced some sachets, if they're not using multi-use bottle now??? The choc orange dessert was nice enough, but didn't taste of orange... very disappointing. NO ATTEMPT BY STAFF AT SOCIAL DISTANCING; none were wearing masks. One lent over me so close that I had to move so that her face didn't touch mine. We provided our own sanitising gel. Same old menus appeared to be in use - if they sanitised them between guests, we didn't see this.

We visited one evening recently and had the best food we have had in ages. I had the Garlic Mushroom Flammkuchen (pizza) and my husband had the vegan mountain burger and we were really impressed with the food. Just a note we were confused with where this restaurant was based. We followed google maps to the golf club and what looks like The Pheasant restaurant then on arrival the waiter told us we were in the right place even though nothing was branded JJs and they didn’t have our booking. I think I might have read about a restaurant in Pocklington so could be they had the booking. Either way we had a lovely evening. Thank you.

We visited here after looking on trip advisor at the reviews. We at first went to the town centre restaurant, however they now serve at the golf club. (My mistake for not reading my emails)We ordered nachos as a sharing starter, they were delicious and was a huge portion. They don’t have starters on the menu and now we know why due to portion sizes. The chilli on top was fantastic. We ordered the lamb donner kebab special and the cowboy steak. The lamb donner was excellent, very tasty with lots of extras to top it off. The flatbread was very well made. The steak was one of the best I’ve had. 12oz rump steak with all the trimmings, which were as good as the steak. My first ever trip advisor review as it was so good. Service was excellent. We will be visiting again.

We have recently visited Pocklington and visited jj’s. We had all the different steaks between us as a family, and I have to say this is the best steak we have had in years. It was so tender and flavoursome and compliments to the chef. The staff were all friendly and the service was great. All safety precautions were in place which was great to see but that didn’t impact the ambiance of the restaurant. If you are near the area or don’t mind driving for great food, I would recommend you book a table here.

Ordered a take away delivery from here when staying at the KP. Staff were very helpful and we all enjoyed our food. Very tasty and generous portions.

This was our first visit to JJs at Allerthorpe Golf Club (usually go to JJs in the centre of Pocklington) and we will definitely be back. From the moment we walked through the door to leaving, the staff were fantastic. I've been out for a lot of Sunday dinners over the years, but this Sunday dinner was amazing!!!!! Instead of ordering the classic pizza for after watching the footy on telly, me and the lads decided to order food from somewhere local instead - wanted to liven things up after a pretty dismal lockdown week. The food was absolutely amazing - the currywurst I had was such an enjoyable experience, I was having trouble stopping myself from choking as I was eating so quick - I couldn't resist going flat out through it. Without a doubt, one of the best takeaways I've ever had and I can't wait till next week till I can have it again! (The other lads were very happy with their halloumi burgers too, they said it tasted great but they didn't feel as guilty afterwards when compared to normal takeways).

We've lived in Pocklington for three years. Sorry to say we just discovered this place recently when someone told us about it. You could walk past the unprepossessing front door which doesn't really look all that inviting as the premises is upstairs above shops. What a surprise we got when we went it. Huge upstairs bar and dining area. Decent selection of beer and drinks and a cracking diner type menu which has something for everyone. We had a Mexican Burger and my wife had a Schnitzel. Couple of pints of Staropramen which were decent too. Really like this place and look forward to a return visit soon.

First time visiting pocklington and JJs. What a perfect place to visit. Food, ambiance, staff and selection of beers and cocktails was just perfect. My husband had the Swiss burger which he said was lovely and I had the lamb curry. This was the nicest curry I have ever had!We were served by both John and Charlotte who were just lovely, so attentive, friendly and obviously love their jobs.We had such a great night and will definitely be visiting JJs again when in the area.

Visited for the first time last night, what a great place! The service was excellent, the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 is that there isn’t a drinks menu given to you at the table but not a reason to not visit again, we’ll be back.

Paid a Saturday lunchtime visit (beware busy - so book advisable!) Both hankering for a burger had the Classic Retro Burger (swapped out the BBQ sauce for ketchup - not a problem) they made me a strawberry daiquiri (not on the menu no problem - might be on there now as the barman said he was including it on the new menu. Burgers to DIE for O M G - best I've had out of NYC (Virgils) polished off the lot. Succulent, Juicy, Moist, Tasty - could have eaten it all over again. We're going back for sure !

I visited JJs with some friends as we were having an annual get together. I dont want to tell everyone how brilliant bar it is. So i can always get booked in. We booked in advance and everything was ready to sit down, the staff was amazing the food was brilliant. It's definately got a 10/10 from me. The owner came out to meet us and checked to see if everything was okay. Very polite guy who was checking if everything was in order and his customers was happy. Brilliant bar we will be come again.

Decided to try it out between Christmas and new year. We checked out the online menu but this was not on offer it was replaced with a smaller Christmas menu.We tried it anyway and it was very nice . The naughty elf burger was my choice very juicy.Would recommend a family visit.

Visited recently with family and friends for tea. The menu is very varied and the food is delicious! Can make pretty much any cocktail as-well if you ask. JJs brand new festive menu is out, and we were spoiled for choice. Options from Turkey Dinner Burrito to Naughty elf burger, even some festive nachos.

Such a lovely setting, so cosy and quirky. The food was gorgeous and we had a lovely evening all round. Definitely looks family friendly and had a fab atmosphere. Well definitely be returning now we’ve stumbled across this little gem!

My favourite place to eat in Pocklington. An excellent menu covering most needs and alway some interesting specials. Also a well stocked bar with a good selection beers, gins and cocktails. Quality is top notch, the staff are great and it’s good value for money.

Large family gathering. Diverse menu which delivered and catered for all including kids. Great atmosphere and sensibly priced.

Good food and nice prices good place to take kids and lovely pizza with alot of menu options staff are friendly and also very welcoming to dogs.

Although I have reviewed JJ's before, the menu and dining experience have both developed significantly and have made this excellent bar even better. Always renowned for it's quality beers and food, the staff have made this venue a must visit place when you are in Pocklington. The addition of schnitzel, Gurkha curry and gourmet burgers, all at very reasonable prices, have made the already varied menu even more diverse. The food is delicious and all freshly prepared, and is served by the ever friendly and helpful staff. Behind the bar, both the East Coast IPA and Shipyard beers are fantastic but there are plenty to choose from plus an impressive selection of gins too. There is a great atmosphere, cosy environment and it's usually busy too - make sure you book!

We have just been and had a great time. Love that our dog can be included and the pizzas were absolutely spot on. Definitely will be back!

Following a friend's recommendation I booked a table on line for the same evening, mainly because it was our anniversary. Never been in the place before in any of its connotations. We really enjoyed the different burger's we had, had a couple of drinks, staff very friendly and accommodating, no complaints whatsoever, good music and large TV screen with subtitles, will definitely return, and found out it is dog friendly, what's not to like?.

Wandered around Pocklington early Sunday evening looking for somewhere to eat after exploring the Wolds. The entrance to JJs didn't say much but we were glad we followed our impulse to look further. Great food, friendly atmosphere, friendly staff - and I really appreciate a restaurant where your table is not squashed in on top of others.

A great place - fun, friendly and delicious food. For such a wide menu they do a great job with every dish. Children and adults delighted. Thank you all.

Went here today for a late lunch as a family of 5. The staff were friendly and the food was fantastic. Lots on the menu to choose from so will definitely have to go back and try some of the other dishes.

We used JJs as the venue for a surprise party. It was an awesome experience with great atmosphere, friendly staff with fantastic service. Hats off to Dave Scott being an amazing host that went above and beyond to ensure everyone was looked after. I Cannot fault the place and would definitely recommend JJs if you are in the area. I will definitely be back.

This is a favourite bar and restaurant of ours and it never disappoints. The surroundings are eclectic and comfortable, and the 80s' music is brilliant! Food is great value and even though we eat here regularly, we are always impressed by the huge choice on offer. The nachos are even better than at the Hard Rock café in Times Square! Dave introduces specials each week, and they're currently Greek - really tasty and authentic. Always look forward to eating here - it goes from strength to strength!

This was our second visit here and we were not disappointed. The menu is very varied with lots of options to choose from. I had a Zigeuner Schnitzel washed down with a couple of pints of Krombacher. My partner was served with a huge chicken salad. This restaurant is a real gem. The food is tasty with great sized portions. Having been brought up in Germany my meal was a real trip down memory lane. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the venue itself is well laid out. Highly recommended.

Great atmosphere and lovely service.

We both had a pint of pravha and were then shown to our table. The place was friendly and fun. We had a bowl of chicken to share and then one pork schnitzel with chilli and one schnitzel with mushroom and garlic and finally some ice cream..

Me and four lads went in there and ordered 4 pints of prahva. The guy took ten minutes. Left to change the barrel and then came back and told us they had run out of beer on a Saturday night. Absolutely shocking. Needless to say we left and went next door to another bar.

My husband and I went for dinner on a Saturday evening.

Had a nice drink and a lovely feed. The menu is very family friendly and had board games also.the lamb curry stated lamb potatoes and rice I didn't get any potatoes but plenty of very tender lamb. Would deffo go again xxx

Came here with my partner while on holiday. We were a bit apprehensivr at first - it is tucked away and from the entrance looks quite small. Don't be tricked! The upper floor is huge and there is plenty of seating.

Great little pub/restaurant. Really good food all cooked fresh so there is sometimes a wait, but we'll worth it. Relaxing family atmosphere.

I used to live in Pocklington but have now moved to York city centre. I still come back to Jj’s for the food!

We have been to JJ’s a few times recently and have received excellent service and food/drinks every time. The staff are welcoming and attentive, nothing is too much and the food hits the spot every time.

Just a door leading upstairs above a Co-op, but a really nice atmosphere once you're inside, and really nice food. The menu looks like the typical stuff; burgers, curry, pizza, but they do it really well, and with a bit of creativity. This place was a very pleasant surprise.

I like the atmosphere, and the special meal offers during the week. Also, I am a Krombacher fan, and JJ's are the only place in Pocklington to serve Krombacher.

Just want to thank Dave and his staff for letting us have my son's 6th birthday party there,, nothing was to much trouble and happy to help in anyway highly recommend.

We visited JJ's last night and were impressed with the whole place. From outside you just see a doorway and as we were considering where to eat we were intrigued by the menu on the door. Once upstairs it opens up into a modern bar and with nice seating and tables. We were greeted by the staff and impressed by the draft beer selection. The food menu covered most tastes from Burgers and Hot Dogs to Curry. We went for the 2 specials - Steak and Schnitzel which were nicely presented, piping hot and very tasty.

We took an evening meal before seeing Colin Blunstone at the Arts Centre and so glad we did. Quirky upstairs venue where you can eat, drink and presumably take in live music judging from the small stage area.

The décor, the staff and the food were all brilliant, and well worth 5 stars, however they don't do desserts, and I am a big dessert fan!

I visited here with my partner over the weekend and was originally enticed by a slightly hidden doorway along the main street. It looked intriguing so we decided to venture in for a bite to eat. We were well rewarded! The interior is light and spacious and it looks like they do live music and events in the evening. For lunch it was fairly busy with at least 4 or 5 other tables occupied. The food was fantastic, my partner (who is German) was incredibly impressed by the Flammkuchen, which is a kind of German pizza. Once the owner found out she was from Germany he took great pleasure in explaining the dishes and tempting us with some of his beer (Krombacher, which was delicious by the way!)

After googling to try and find somewhere in pocklington that did vegan food I ended up bringing my family here after reading the good reviews. Everyone really enjoyed their food (burgers, pizza and beef bourguignon) and the choco kebab was a big hit! There are two vegan options for main; a onion bahji burger and a curry. I had the burger which was delicious. A few more vegan options would be nice and having veggie and vegan options marked with symbols (v and ve for example) would make looking through the menu easier. I was excited to see there was also vegan ice creams on the menu (6 or 7 if I remember correctly) as well as loads of choice of non-vegan ice creams. although they seemed a bit overpriced for what you got. They also do a choco kebab in a bubble waffle which one of our party had and said was really yummy. We went during the day on a sunday so it was fairly quiet and the staff were attentive and friendly.

Tucked away but well worth the walk up the staircase to reveal this fabulous bar and restaurant. We are regular visitors with our dogs (which are always welcomed) and enjoy great food and drink. Fab place.
