JJ Crossfield's in South Lakeland

Called in for a coffee and snack after our frequent walk along the bay and round back into Arnside. When this first opened I was a little wary as we are used to small intimate tea/coffee shops in Arnside. However this was our second visit and as we entered we were greeted by obviously the front of house guy “David”. Wow does this guy know how to do it Welcoming ,friendly, Northern (always a bonus). Had a lovely coffee and Hubby had a great crisp bacon bun. The vibe in this cafe/restaurant is great., modern but great service. We live quite locally and are encouraged to go in the evening now as well. In our opinion the best restaurants are always about the front of house and Crossfields has it right. Everyone in this place has a great view of our beautiful Morecambe bay.

Dropped in on spec after a wander along the seashore. The ambience is great. My friends had coffee and scones and I had a couple of beers available from a good selection. This is a family run enterprise and David - one of the family - was great at front of house. Very enjoyable visit.

Amazing service and lovely atmosphere. Everything was lovely and clean, including the toilets and the pizzas were lovely, would highly recommend popping in.

Liked everything. We shared an excellent Pizza which was mor ehan adiquate for 2 as a lunch. really nicely presented , plentiful topping and a proper Pizza base. Also an excellent pint of real ale . With a coffee as well i think the bill was under £30. Happy with that. Tables well spaced, good service and cracking view

Friendly service,lovely food however the second time I have visited in a short time and not impressed with the smell and sight of urine on the urinals in the unisex toilets.Very off putting and not very clean !!!

We went here the other day , and stunned to find drinks served in paper cups. When this place was first planned to come to Arnside. Everybody we know was excited by the prospect of a bistro style , with pizza type of ambience, with dining tables throughout , a classy atmosphere, the pizza oven on display , evoking similar to a trattoria. But nothing could be further from this, the last time we went there was an Alsatian lying across the doorway, people had to step over it and the staff did absolutely nothing, this time the place was crawling with dogs to the point you could smell them, just awful. How sad that this opportunity has been missed. It is now nothing more than a bit of a cafe with dogs roaming free and dreadful paper cups. It has got the feeling that it is run down and none of the staff care about how intrusive and unwelcome all these dogs are. They should not be in an area where food is served. I was in conversation in a supermarket recently with about 5 others and everybody felt the same. They refuse to go to Crossfields . I know you will say that the staff monitor dogs or some other excuse , but this is not true. People who do not want a dog coming up to them will not enter because if they raise it , they will not be listened to or treated with any respect. It is just a run down cafe with paper cups.

We popped in for a drink and a bite to eat and since we were here last, the menu has expanded. There are varied beer and ale choices and they now even do breakfast buns. We didn’t think it could get any better but the pizzas…..the best pizza we have tasted around Cumbria & Lancashire! Made to perfection and makes you crave more. Lots of nibbles on the menu too that looked delicious. This is the place to be in Arnside and definitely somewhere we will keep coming back to even though we live south of Lancaster :)

A great place to take our visiting Canadian family. They said that the pizzas were better than any they had eaten in Canada or anywhere else in their travels. We thought they were great too.

JJ’s is a brilliant addition to Arnside! Love the table service it’s very slick and effective. The staff are great nothing is ever too much bother. We love the hand stretched, wood fired pizzas which are on a par with pizzas we have had in Italy…. Can’t fault the whole of the menu to be honest. The atmosphere is always really happy. Strangers share tables and become friends, dog friendly, get dressed up or rock up in your walking gear, the view is fabulous love it there 👍👍👍

What a great addition to the village! Beautifully decorated, friendly staff, well kept beer and great pizzas. No wonder it’s so busy.

First time visiting here and absolutely loved it. A stylish, well appointed cafe bar with a good selection of beers, ales and wines, which had our heads spinning with choices—in the best way possible. Nice to see a non alcoholic lager on tap 👍 Beautifully decorated, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, with very friendly, helpful and attentive staff. All table service, but it works well here. Limited menu of bar snacks and pizza's and although we never ate, the pizza's looked lovely. Fantastic views over the bay and mountains in the distance. Thank you all for such an outstanding experience.  I'll be singing your praises to anyone who'll listen and definitely coming back for more.

Lovely atmosphere, decor & comfortable seating, & stunning estuary views. Such a shame the experience was let down by having to drink my flat white out of a paper cup! As an Arnside resident, I live in hope that soon they’ll start serving coffee in proper cups & saucers! I’ll then meet my friends there more often.

I discovered this pearl recently after returning to Arnside one cold February afternoon. The other nearby establishments had turned the village into a barren desert, but this place has provided a bountiful oasis for everyone to enjoy. After 17 cancelled trains, and a battle of wits with an overzealous ticket inspector, I finally disembarked the 36 year old diesel British Rail Class 155 onto the cold platform at Arnside and inhaled an icy lungful of country air. Beautiful. As I sauntered towards the Promenade, this breath of fresh air was ripped from within me and soon replaced by the stench of bull excrement. This puzzled me, so I approached the southern man smoking a budget brand cigarette and tightly grasping an extortionately expensive looking pint of lager who was stood outside the first drinking establishment I arrived at, and questioned him, "Excuse me, good sir, may I inquire as to what that awful smell might be?" "Well, young man..." he began, but I found it extremely difficult to concentrate and became incredulously perplexed as the words kept coming from his cigarette laden mouth, but none of it seemed to make any sense and simultaneously, as he spoke for longer and longer, the intensity of the smell became greater and greater! I departed from this chap as soon as I felt I was physically able to, as he appeared to have more false stories than F. Scott Fitzgerald's Gatsby and a higher opinion of himself than even the Greek Narcissus had of himself. My original saunter became more of a canter as I was leaving the company of this strange beast. As I swiftly departed, I observed him return to his watering hole - probably to top up his extortionately priced lager, and I was reminded of Hunter S. Thompson's description of Dr. Gonzo in his 1971 classic novel, "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die." I took the short walk down the Promenade and arrived at my intended destination, J. J. Crossfield's. The atmosphere and warm welcome of this fine establishment must have deoderized the vulgar odour I had just experienced as I felt that previous breath of fresh air return to my lungs. Because that sums up this place to a tee. A breath of fresh air. Like that first bite of a juicy peach after years of eating dry rice (or drinking extortionately expensive lager). Fortunately, dear reader, the good residents of Arnside finally have a first class venue to wine and dine themselves in set in the beautiful surroundings that they call home. Enjoy.

We were ignored for quite a while. It was busy. Latte was served in a paper cup. At the price charged it should have been served in a glass and look wow. Paper cups are for sandwich takeaways. Nice people but grossly overworked and consequently inadequate .

We visited one evening in Jan, pizza was delicious. Really nicely decorated just a shame that a gentleman was vaping inside most the evening and the staff didn’t seem to be bothered.

We were recommended the Cafe bar by friends and called in Thursday evening for drinks. Such a welcoming vibe and superb interior decor. The staff were so friendly and all came to chat and say hello to our puppy. We enjoyed our visit so much we returned with friends the next evening for Pizza. We were not disappointed they were sooo delicious! We ordered 3 Pizza between 4, the Posh Fungi, Italian Calbrese and Haggis Neets and Whiskey. Perfectly cooked large pizzas with superb toppings. Can't wait to return.

We couldn’t wait return and try out January’s new pizza menu! As a family of five we ordered four of the new pizzas to Road test the new menu. They were delicious, especially the Mediterranean vegetable , but all of them were really tasty!

We were only in Arnside 48 hours and visited three times! The place has a warm and vibrant atmosphere at all times of day and is equally welcoming to family and adult groups of all ages. The staff are fantastic and friendly, the pizzas and small plates truly excellent, and there is a well-considered choice of wines (all available by the glass) and a fine beer selection (see photo for the hand pumps). This is one of the best places we have been in for a very long time. PS. We managed to leave behind two bottles of beer we bought, only to find them left at the door of our B&B. Thank you so much!

Laughed my socks off at the negative review by Hannah Price last month. I wonder what sort of venue she goes to! Crossfields is a welcoming place, great beers, good wines and fabulous pizzas. The place was buzzing tonight. People meeting friends and enjoying their evening.

Provided the service, ambience & conversation that I’ve missed in most other places around here. Open decent number of hours and I love the seating options. At last - somewhere that opens 12-13 hours a day/7-days a week & offers more than what the usual tiny coffee shops - comfort, warmth & alcoholic drinks too. It may be 30 years after Friends & original Frasier TV series - but even remote parts of the English North eventually start to creep into the 21st century €

We arrived on a wet December lunch time, the rain coming sideways off the estuary. I had seen this place on my prior visits to Arnside but have never ventured inside. A last we did enter and i am glad to say we made the right decision. As we entered this very modern bar a friendly member of the team greeted us and asked us to take seat and will be over shortly to take our order. I asked about the Low Alcohol options and was given a vast array of choices. I went with the Budvar that is on draft ( a first time seeing a 0% alcohol on draft), i was pleasantly surprised. My girlfriend had the bud lime and was surprised of how nice it was (she doesn’t like lager or beer). The owner was also sat near us and had a very pleasant chat with him, i could tell from the brief conversation we had that he is a genuine bloke. Ignore any negative reviews made towards this establishment as in my opinion they are inaccurate. I will be returning in the near future to purchase a pizza.

Great place for either just drinks or pizza which are delicious, my husband tells me the beer selection is excellent too. Very comfortable atmosphere, table service and very welcoming staff oh and then there's the view!! A real asset to Arnside

This is just what Arnside desperately needed after years of having to put up with public houses like the Albion, which is beyond poor on so many levels including cleanliness, service and awful food. Basil Fawlty would not be out of place behind the bar...

Currently sat in this establishment moved to write a review which I rarely ever do. Historically a family convenience store, refurbished by the family discovering an original stone wall which they've enhanced as a feature. Local real ales that are well kept are extremely quaffable!...

Great addition to Arnside. It's really good to be able to get a "proper" coffee after 4.00p.m. The staff are very friendly and service very quick and efficient. The views are spectacular and add to the experience.

Excellent food, we had pizza's. Figgy pizza and morecambe Bay.. both freshly made, tasty and we couldn't eat all. Price each pizza around £13. So cheap and filling and tasty. Staff are attentive, polite and efficient. Can't recommend enough.

Visited three times whilst in Arnside and it's easily the pick of the bunch when it comes to pubs/bars in the village. It's table service, which is always friendly, large choice of beers and at a decent price - Pizza is pretty good too!

Everything about this new Bistro Bar & Cafe is quality. Although I didn’t try the Lite Bite style of food the drinks offering is all high end quality. Lancaster Brewery traditional ales, Guest Ales, Budvar Lagers and an excellent Gin selection with its own menu....

As locals we waited impatiently for months to enjoy the opening of this Arnside hostelry. First visit was purely curiosity for drinks - it was Saturday newly opened and very busy. Great location! Liked the decor and layout but understood kitchen was not yet fitted...

We popped in on a very rainy afternoon to check out the new addition to Arnside and have a nosey! It's nicely refurbished with quality furnishings and design. No tables for two ansore suited for groups of 4-8, I hope that doesn't cause a problem....

Smart and attractive decor, friendly and efficient service with a great view over the Bay. Fantastic selection of local real ales and gins, can't wait to go back. I understand they will soon be starting to serve casual food such as pizzas.
