Jin Jin Chinese Restaurant in Oxford

If I could give more than 5 stars I WOULD! I usually come here for the hot pot only but I’ve heard the other food here is great too. In terms of the hot pot, this is the best I’ve been to. So if you’re thinking about coming here for hot pot, don’t think twice. The ingredients are fresh, you get a good choice of drinks and most importantly, the sauce bar is 10/10. It has everything you’d want to have your hotpot with! The lady who works here and manages the restaurant is just the most sweetest person ever - and was very welcoming and attentive! My friends/family come here every so often for food but we live over an hour away. If I lived closer, I’d be here at least once a week!

I consider myself being quite particular about restaurants and so, whilst you don't know me, and can't totally trust what I'm saying, you should still take it into consideration that I think this is the best Chinese restaurant in Oxford. It was cold and tipping down with rain when I visited, so immediately on being seated I was brought some hot tea 🤗 A really nice touch. I chose to sit at a table for 1 but was offered a warmer seat at a table for 4. I politely declined, but again, I very much appreciated the thought and care 🙏 I ordered stir-fry green beans with chilli, stewed pork belly in sweet soy sauce, and egg fried rice. Absolutely amazing. I used to have a similar meal at SoJo in the city centre before it closed. The sauce was exactly as I wanted it; sweet and salty, sticky with rendered fat, soaking into the rice. The pork tender and delicious. The beans (I could have eaten 2 portions) offset the protein and carb heavy main, and again were delicious; perfectly seasoned. This is the 3rd time I've been and I can't wait to return.

Took a chance as we we're walking past and glad we did. Waiting staff were super friendly and helpful. Food was fresh quick and very tasty with large portions. Will definitely return and recommend to others.

I came here recently with a group of friends and had such a lovely time - the staff were unbelievably helpful and attentive, the menu was really varied with loads of good veggie options and they catered brilliantly for a few of us who had allergies or intolerances. The hotpot was delicious, absolutely perfect meal for a cold winter’s evening. Loved it, would absolutely recommend!

OMG! GO! to this place!! Honestly, one of the best meals I've ever had out at a restaurant. The welcome is so so lovely too, and the service so attentive and caring, I dropped a chopstic, the owner/ waitress was there in 2 seconds with a new pair, my dad struggled not to dribble the delicious soup on his shirt... An apron appeared! And the food! .. a real authentic Chinese meal, the flavours so rich and zingy and warm and just the perfect touch of spice and so yummy! I loved it. If I lived nearby I'd go every week. I hugged the owner on the way out I had enjoyed it so much. Thank you Jin Jin!

Delicious food, generous portions, great service

Chicken balls and chips were barely passable, and that’s where the positives end. The prawn toast was undercooked and far from appetising. The only reason this place gets even one star is because the vegetable spring rolls were at least edible. Safe to say, I won’t be returning.

We loved the hot pots and the service was amazing.

Travelling nearby and found the surprisungly great food here. The staff is very friendly as well. The hotpot looks very good too and will try next time.

Chips were soggy and there were a few odd bits of chicken in the honey chilli chicken. The pineapple tasted off and made the whole dish taste very strange

I have been to Jin Jin around 10-15 times and every time it never ceases to amaze me. Whether I get the unlimited hotpot or I order off the menu, everything tastes amazing. The waitress is very friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is very pleasant and inviting. The food is perfectly seasoned and refreshing. Jin Jin is one of the rare restaurants in Oxfordshire I would rate a 10/10. It is amazing and I recommend everyone to try it at least once.

Been 4 times, we travel over an hour to get here and it's well worth the journey, excellent authentic Szechuan food and great service. I've not had it yet but the hotpot seems to be a popular option.

The chicken Katsu curry with rice was a generous portion but the curry was too salty, it felt like someone poured a cup of salt into the mixture.

Last October, I went to Oxford with my friends and ate at this Chinese restaurant. The quality of Chinese food in Oxford was pretty good, but maybe we were tired from shopping and hungry🤤 A few of us finished all the dishes we ordered. The fat beef in sour soup goes very well with rice. Even though the boiled beef is spicy, some of us Sichuan people still don’t think it’s spicy. The potato-roasted pork ribs are quite delicious. Quite adequate.

The food was so good, portion sizes were so big me and my friend couldn't finish everything. The staff were so nice as well and so accomodating.

The food was soo good, as a vegetarian they had a lot of options. BUT CAREFUL the spicy food is actually very spicy but delicious!! The staff was so kind and sweet would definitely recommend to go if you’re having friend dates.

The fried rice is spongy and tastes like it has been taken from the bottom of a large rice cooker. Foul after taste. And on top of this... like so many Chinese restaurants.. they are too cheap to even have a card machine. So it's cash only.... in 2024. Sorry, but this is my first my last visit.

Brilliant resteraunt will come here again service was brilliant. They even gave me a little dragon keyring which was lovely food was great I had duck chow mein and loved it. Definitely recommend this place 👌

So dirty! When I finished eating, I noticed that a South Asian waiter at the opposite table was cleaning up. He put the leftover green onion, coriander, and chili from someone else's table back to the shared buffet plate! I want to vomit immediately🤮The hot pot is not delicious and shoddy

Really delicious lunch. We had the banquet B for 2. It's amazing value at £25 per head with three delicious courses including crispy duck with pancakes and lots, lots more. Very good indeed, great atmosphere and great service.

Jinjin Is my go-to restaurant in Oxford. Amazingly tasty food, wonderful service, and a friendly atmosphere. I chose to have my birthday at Jinjin and the waiters were incredibly helpful with such a large group of customers - so patient and consistently checking orders to guarantee all of my friends would be sure of what they were getting. I even got a suprise birthday cake! I would recommend Jinjin to everyone, I take my parents every time they come visit me!

Can't recommend the hotpot and crispy fried pork/chicken enough. If the staff ask whether you want them to prepare their house satay sauce for you: say yes!

I had a great experience with the service from Jinjin’s. I ordered through Uber eats and my uber driver didn’t want to use the dual carriageway, so he returned my order. I phoned Jinjin’s, because I hadn’t ever experienced this issue previously and the lady on the phone was so understanding and kind. She even offered to give us free drinks for the drivers mistake in taking an order he couldn’t deliver. I always enjoy their food and the service is outstanding.

Tasty Chinese food, Good service, Reasonable price compared to other Chinese restaurants around. What else can you ask for? :)

wish i could give this zero. worst food poisoning of my LIFE. my partner and i have been throwing up and had diarrhoea all DAY. awful and they won’t do anything about it on ubereats.

The food here is great and the staff are lovely. This is not the smartest restaurant in the Cowley but if you want really good Chinese food, at a very reasonable price this is for you.

Be aware is Cash only, but have to say its really good though. Lovely staff.

From the moment of arrival to the movement we walked out the door I felt warm and welcome by the amazing people running this Resturant we had the buffet hot pot for 25 pounds wich comes with unlimited soft drinks wow it was the least to say friking tasty and fresh fresh fresh wich is always a worry with buffets this little quaint Resturant is pushing out some delish down to earth tasty food

Wandered in here off the street and so glad we did. The welcome was fantastic. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. I will definitely be going back.

Do you know what would happen if I suddenly decided to stop going to jinjin? A business tasty enough that it could be listed on google reviews goes belly up. Disappears! It ceases to exist without me. No, you clearly don't know who you're talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not in danger of not getting hotpot, Callum. I am getting hotpot. A guy opens the door to jinjin and gets mala xiang guo, and you think that of me? Yes. I am the one who gets mala xiang guo!

Come for the hotpot buffet! You won’t leave disappointed. Excellent value too @ £20/person for all you can eat with no time limit and drinks and sauces included.

Great value for money large portions really tasty food the staff are wonderful. Went in for hotpot £25 all you can eat couldn't believe how good it was! If you're new to hotpot the staff will explain everything to you and will guide you throughout the meal. Have only ever ordered take out, dining in is definitely better. By far one of the best Asian restaurants on Cowley Road if not the whole of Oxford!!

The most Lovely, kind staff. The staff take good care of you, the food is so fresh and you see a lot of people in the restaurant. Food is very fresh, tasty and good quality. I always go here when I have had a long day at work and I’m taken very good care of. Lots of different dishes to try and I highly recommend them. The staff is very friendly and the best restaurant in cowley. I would recommend here for quick service and lots of options. Staff are very approachable and will make sure your looked after and speak very good English. The staff are amazing. I always eat half in the restaurant and pack half to take home hence the half portions. Food is still super tasty the next day

Half of the food we order was hardly eatable. Thai green curry tasted like soap and some of the chicken dishes tasted of fish.

Fantastic evening. Food was wonderful. Atmosphere was great. Staff really attentive and went extra mile to not only order a taxi, but to wait with us and follow up that taxi arrived for us. Superb !! Special thanks to Vicki for going this extra mile!!

Absolutly delicious food, with great service and atmosphere. The portions are a good size and the price is reasonable as well. We are vegan and gluten-free and still had many possible dishes.

The food is ok. But it takes long long time. You need at least 1 hour or more to wait. The money lover owner he put only one waitress front. She needs to do all the taking orders, clean tables and serving food,,,,, I feel very sorry for her 🥲.

Amazing food and vegan friendly

Absolutely love this place. The staff is lovely and caring with great customer service. The food is simply delicious and unique, especially would like to point out my personal favourite - the beef broth noodle. The place feels loved for it's Chinese cuisine authenticity because of how popular it is amongst the chinese residents/locals of Oxford. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

Me and my husband went to Jin Jin for their all-you-can-eat hotpot. Excellent value for money: the food was really tasty and soft drinks/teas were included in the price. Service was flawless. The place is quite casual and has a relaxed atmosphere.

I have been to this establishment many times, 13 times to be precise. I’ve taken many of my friends here, each time I’m astounded by the sheer breadth of selection on the menu! Every time I did not shy away from spending at least £60 to really indulge in this wonderful food. Hands down, I’m saying this is the best Chinese restaurant in Oxford. The serving staff are wonderful, the food is marvelous and the kart from which you can make your own sauce concoction is amazing! No other restaurant has that - it’s a really unique experience. You have to come to this restaurant if you find yourself in Oxford.

Really good little restaurant! Got the HotPot, was really nice and a unique eating experience. Recommend the beef strips, but dont bother with the fillet. The crispy chicken was really nice too

Very little duck and it’s mainly skin! Just a few strands of mushroom! Probably cos mushroom is too expensive in this country?! Edit: reduced to 1 star because initially the reply was asking me to call the restaurant. Now they are justifying that the duck given was mostly skin and the ridiculous little mushroom that could be barely found. I tried hard to dig out the mushroom in order to take a photo and I shouldn’t have done that. I haven’t seen this amount served in a restaurant back home.

my delivery experience was absolutely ridiculous. my order took around 2 hours to be completed when the estimated time was 1 hour, and the driver had no navigation skills whatsoever. we waited for a total of 4 hours and ended up not even getting the food delivered at the end. all in all horrible service, would not recommend getting delivery from this restaurant.

It was absolutely ridiculous for an order to arrive after 4 hours when it was estimated to take only 1 hour. Furthermore, when the ordered had arrived, we spent half an hour giving directions to the driver but end up not getting it because she left to deliver another one. This was the worst delivery experience I have ever had. Would not recommend and never again.

It was ridiculous to be waiting for 4 hours since 1800 and still not getting our dinner. The deliveryman has no sense of direction and we spent half an hour on the phone just telling her where to go. In the end, we even walked 5 mins in the cold to where she is and she just left. It was such an outrageous experience with bad quality of service and lack of responsibility. Never come back to this restaurant again.

Our go-to place for hot pot, £25 per person for hotpot, including drinks(you can choose any drink that says £1.80 on the menu) Ingredients are all frozen but tastes okay. Avoid peak hours.

Sweet and sour food poisoning. Ordered sweet and sour chicken balls along with a few other bits, however the balls were the culprit here. The flavour was bitter. Not sweet or sour, just bitter. It had definitely gone off. The taste made me stop eating, but it didn't stop me from having my head in the toilet all night. This was my first time using this service. It will undeniably be my last too. I can't say if I was a unique occurrence, but I don't want to risk it again.

Such amazing food and such amazing service! We were in Oxford for 8-days to attend a course and stumbled upon this lovely little restaurant. The food was super tasty and fresh, and the lady at the front was super sweet and friendly. We ended up going 3 times during our trip since it was just that good!

Food poisoning. I just returned from holiday off a late flight - following day had nothing but yoghurt and fruit for breakfast. Ordered from here that night. A few hours later, I developed food poisoning and still have not recovered over 12 hours later. I did not order rice, but made my own, so the bacteria was present in either the chicken or pork ribs. I must say that I have previously ordered from here on two occasions, with no issues. However, last night’s order will be my last as there must be some serious disregard for food safety and handling in recent weeks. Salt level was also off the scale yesterday - Dead Sea levels of salt. Avoid. Save yourself

Very reasonably priced delicious food. Vicky who served us was super efficient, polite and very attentive. She gets a straight 10/10 for her service. Menu was extensive and food was presented well. Little touches like the sauce counter, complimentary prawn crackers and a fortune cookie added to the experience. Parking is on street. It is cash only. Cash machine is right opposite the restaurant.

Ordered takeaway from here and had the Singapore noodles, veggie pad Thai, and dan dan noodles. Food arrived hot with complimentary prawn crackers. Everything was delicious and fresh.

Order delivery food via Deliveroo at 19:00, expected 19:35. Arrived 20:45. Called restaurant twice and kept making up excuses about Cowley Rd traffic, dumping responsibility on driver. Asked for a refund they said talk to Deliveroo. Stuff arrived half cold. They lost a good customer.

The mapo tofu is a bit salty, but their pork and chili fish is amazing as far as UK Chinese food goes. Great hospitality and nice cosy environment. Very limited space so if you're coming better make sure you reserve as they seem full most of the time.

Quality food for good money value

The hot pot at jin jin was amazing. It was our first time trying out hot pot and the waitress was very helpful. She made sure to explain every step and even made us her favourite sauce. The broth was very flavourful and the meat tasty. The hot pot was all you can eat including soft drinks for £25 each. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. However, when we went there was only one waitress so of course the service was little bit slow but it is worth the wait and honestly not something that bothered me.

Dreadful. Worst "banquet" I have ever had. £22 p.p. and totally tasteless. Place is cramped and noisy. Plus they missed a whole course.

Great food but rubbish delivery service. Ordered at 5.50pm and still waiting at 8.15pm. Called and told it will be 10 mins when the driver comes back. Therefore impossible to be 10 mins due to distance involved. Would not recommend delivery.

Jin Jin is a great Chinese restaurant. The environment and food is very good and typically found in China. Prices are cheap and staff are nice. I really enjoyed hotpot there and I'd recommend the prawn crackers, fried chicken and pork!
