Jim Jack's in South Ayrshire

I loved this fish and chip shop, it is the best one I have been to. The staff were very friendly and didn’t take too long to serve me. I will definitely be coming back soon.

I honestly don't know what people are moaning about-see previous reviews. We were on holiday at Craig Tara,only few minutes drive to chippy. Fish was crispy and hot,hubby got 3 sausages in his sausage supper. Everything has gone up in price,fish and chips not a cheap meal any more-i have relatives in Ayr and they said this is average price for the area Will definitely use again next year

honestly wouldn’t waste your time nor money….. large chips can’t even feed a family of 3 it’s awful…. ask for salad on the side as daughter’s allergic and they said no very poor.. honestly shocking

Worst haggis supper ever! The haggis had no taste and the texture was just like a sausage. Although there was a lot of chips they were pretty chewy.

Bought fish suppers here while staying at Craig Tara. The haddock fillets were massive and delicious. Unfortunately the chips were hard and difficult to chew.

Hands down the best chip shop I've had in the last few years. We were a little overwhelmed with the selections on the menu, but the staff with some suggestions, I ordered the double cheese burger supper you can have the choice of salad and sauce and we didn't have to wait long for our food also great and friendly staff.

Reaonably priced considering everywhere has had to put their prices up. Everything was cooked fresh, but well worth the wait. This can be a very busy shop from 4-7 so perhaps go a little later or just as they open. This is not in the city so expect everything to take a little more tiime. Fish was in a crispy batter and the chips plentiful and tasty. I have been here several times and the staff are always helpful and friendly, guiding me through the menu. I am happy to recommend and will definitely be back.

Quite pricey for what you actually get, the chips were lovely but the pizza had hardly any cheese on it and was extremely oily. Everything was a but too salty. Not the best chippy I've ever had, wouldn't rush back!

You must visit this chippy if you are in Ayr, I was recommended to fish plus chips while staying in Craig Tara, wasn't disappointed. Food was cooked fresh to order and was delicious.

My partner got me a sausage supper last night the sausage is 3 small sausages covered in batter very cheap tasting sausage may I add!! He asked for a large sausage like normal chip shops usually do,they did not state that they do not do them! all the chips were crunchy and back heat he went in just after opening at 4 please be aware I’ve been unwell all night after eating I live round the corner but would rather pay £5 delivery fees than eat out here again and it’s not the first let down here it’s been a few tries craig Tara visitors spend your holiday money and get a good chip shop delivery !!

Don’t know what’s happened at this fish and chip shop but used to go almost every week and was the best fish around. However, the last 2 or 3 visits have been a different story. Fish batter was severely overdone and fish was extremely dry. Sadly, I won’t be back. What a shame.

For the second time in a row the chips served with our Large Haddock were disappointing and this time they were unacceptable.

By far my favourite stop for a fish supper, huge chunky piece of fish and gorgeous chips, not in the slightest bit greasy.

We stopped in for a weeknight takeaway. It wasn’t busy and we were served immediately. The really nice thing is that everything is prepared when you order it so the food is always fresh and hot. The black pudding is especially good. It is freshly battered and fried. A lot of places serve battered black pudding that comes out of the freezer and is microwaved and then flash fried so that the batter is shrivelled and falls off. It is no comparison to the real, freshly-battered black pudding served here that is delicious. The fish was a large, thick piece of haddock. The batter was crispy and perfect. The portions are big and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend this chip shop.

Living around 70miles away from Ayr, I've tried chippys all over Scotland, but the best is Jim Jack's, every time I visit family in Ayr, my only food option is to go to Jim Jack's for fish and chips, as the fish is ALWAYS fresh and tasty!

Have used this chippy a few times and th e food is always fresh. Definitely one of the best chipies I've had in a long time. The parking.is at the rear just behind the co-op

Always tastes fresh and quck service, small seating area while waiting. Parking at the back behind the local Co-op and not on the street outside, path leads round.

I had my first fish supper from Jim Jack’s today, and was very impressed. I had been a fairly frequent visitor to Dinos over the years, but recently the pieces of fish have become smaller and smaller, so I was looking for somewhere new.

Did not enjoy our takeaway. Asked for a smoked sausage in batter and got home to find it hadn't been battered. Chips were very greasy. Shame as handier than going into town but better chip shops around.

I went to Jim Jack on Saturday ,ordered mini haddock and chips ,it has been some time since I was there but the food was good,unfortunately ,not on Saturday the batter on fish wasn't cooked properly and chips tasted as if they had been cooked and re-heated.there was two staff ,must be new as I didn't recognise them.its been a long time since I had been there and don't think I will be back.

We came off the arran ferry heading back to craig Tara caravan park where we were staying for the week. As we had seen it in the passing we decided to give it a go. We didn't get to the shop until 2130hrs which is when they close but they made us 4 suppers even though they were about to close. What a great service we got. We took our meals back to the caravan and ate most of them. The portion sizes are massive and I doubt anyone can Finnish them . The food wasn't your normal greasy offerings as this was all cooked to order. Even the chips. I hope they didn't mind closing that wee bit later but many a chippy would refuse to make anything. When we return to the area we will make a point in returning. Many thanks. Yvonne is the server and she was great with the kids while they waited. Spot on. Have had several carry outs from Jim Jack's. I can recommend the Fish and Chips, but also like the smoked sausage, Helpings are generous and the suppers are not greasy.

Visited whilst staying in Culzean Possibly the best Fish and Chips I have EVER had! Nothing more to say Visit and you will not be disappointed (well you wouldn't be if you had what I had!)

Spotlessly clean and modern chip shop, great choice and portion size options, we opted for the "Special fish supper" in breadcrumbs. The service was excellent, friendly, the food quality was also excellent and great value. We would definitely recommend, and will return.

Called in on our way back to Craig Tara. We had 2 fish suppers with mushy peas , half a chicken and chips plus 2 potato fritters. Would recommend to get a pot of gravy to have with the chicken.

So lucky to have Jim Jacks in Doonfoot and it really is faultless. So clean, friendly staff and usually served by the same lovely lady with the ponytail !

Very glad I went into this chippy as the jumbo fish and chips are fantastic. I normally don't buy fish and chips as the minute I find a bone it puts me off eating the rest but I've had had at least half a dozen suppers from them and never once found any bones.....and the fish you get is huge.

Called in at Jim Jacks after a long day out and it was packed.....so i assumed it must be good. I wasnt disappointed either. Interestingly the menu is different across the border so i had to feed my kids something different than usual but nobody complained. The staff dealt with the large queue pretty quickly, i had a good bit of banter with the staff member who served me (Elaine i think) due to our accents and the prioces were very reasonable. I'd definitely recommend Jim Jacks and would visit again next time i'm in Ayr.
