The Mac and cheese was normal pasta with melted cheese on and had been put in a microwave. The chicken was more bone than there was actual chicken. The jerk chicken was just in a tub full of sauce. I will never eat from here again.

Probably one of the worst lunches I've had in a while. Overpriced (£15 as they add a £3 charge to the price of the meal) and the chicken and rice were really dry. Sauce tasted a bit funny. Definitely won't be going back.

We ordered a delivery from the jerk shack on Saturday 8 June at 7.40pm. After 20 minutes we got an email and text message confirmation of our order along with the message that food would be 40 minutes delayed. By 9.20pm (1 hr and 40 minutes after I ordered) I called the restaurant to be told that because they did not have one item I ordered they had not prepared the order and no food was on its way. They allege to have tried to call me multiple times to inform me of this but I had not received a single call from them, despite having received a text message confirmation of the order I.e. they did have my correct number. When I tried to cancel the order so as not to be charged, I was told I needed to do so through an app when the original booking was made through their website. So at 9.30 pm on a Saturday night we are still without food, still need to cancel an order that was not getting delivered anyway, and are left with the memory of the guy in the restaurant arguing that this was somehow our fault. We will not ever eat again at this shambolic excuse for a restaurant.

People have always been nice, so can’t fault the service but if I really want Caribbean food I’ll make the trip to somewhere different. I’ll come here out of convenience and to support local business but if I’m being real, it wouldn’t be my 1st choice. Oh, and each time I went to order the stew chicken (which is my go to meal) they never had it.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We booked this restaurant for a birthday party for a party of 36 persons (mix of adults and children) and we had a good experience. It is necessary to contact the restaurant to assist with a party of this size and would recommend that if a party of this size is to be hosted at this restaurant, then it should not be for more than 30 persons for sitting, and no more than 25 if you want to do dinner and socialising/dancing, due to limited spacing. The food was lovely. We had to organise our food prior to the event, to assist with the kitchen orders. As a large party our options were a £25 two course meal - starters and main with a complementary punch (alcoholic or non). The choices on the £25 main meals were jerk chicken, curry goat, coley fish and chick pea curry. We had a £35 two course meal option, with starters, the complementary punch and the option between the meat platter (half jerk chicken, lamb ribs, fries, corn on the cob and coleslaw) or the fish platter (whole jerk lobster, whole snapper fish, peppered prawns and festival). The starters for both were jerk honey wings, BBQ wings or a pattie (beef, chicken or vegetable). The general consensus from the party was that the food was good and good value for money. The chicken starters we had were full of flavour. We were a little shocked with a single patty given for a starter, but due to the size it was acceptable. The restaurant is known for its jerk chicken and it had enough spice for the enjoyment of the food. Be aware that the jerk chicken is good directly on the pan and there will be some redness to be seen, but we were assured that the food is cooked. The party organiser requested for all the food to be cooked well-done with no pinkness at the organisation stage. Despite this, several persons asked for the food to be sent back to done again, however when it returned, people were not convinced as the colour remained and ate around this. The platters were wonderful, in particular the Jerk Chicken and Lamb ribs. The Lamb ribs were the favourite of the party - they fell off the bone! The Lobster platter was lovely. The snapper fish was the favourite on this platter. The lobster could need some more seasoning inside, but the sauce was good! The party was very happy with the portion size of the platters and it made the night. We were happy we could take away what food we could not finish. The £25 meal option food size was OK. The curry goat meal option could have been more. We had to ask for more meat to be put on the plate of these dishes, but all other options were acceptable in the size. The let down of the evening was the timing and organisation of the service. Whilst we had asked the restaurant to hold back to the service time for 30 minutes, the food was not delivered out until a hour later. Unfortunately one person did not have their starter delivered and it did cause an upset as the person wanted to enjoy the whole experience; thankfully this oversight was removed from their bill by the end of the night. For a party this large, more staff was needed and a little more co-ordination so that the party could flow without need of assistance from the party coordinator. It had to be highlighted at the beginning of the event that with a party of that size, the restaurant needed to be closed to the general public. This was accommodated for, in particular as it was mentioned between the restaurant organiser and the party coordinator. The restaurant did the best they could under the circumstances and we were extremely grateful for their work, and appreciated that the group service charge was not charged. The staff who were there were extremely helpful and patience. We appreciated that the restaurant gave cards to the persons of honour and colour coordinated to our theme. One great thing was that we had use of the music system for the night which allowed us to set our own atmosphere. We can recommend Jerk Shack as a great place to eat and have a party. The food is great and the well worth the money for value! We look forward to visiting again!

We like others had a groupon voucher. The reviews were pretty scary but we decided to use it halfway through a walk from Wimbledon to Richmond. We had booked but it was empty on arrival. They only had Rose wine for our free bottle of wine, which was far from ideal but we just went with it. It has nice setting inside but being empty no atmosphere. Starters were 3 chicken wings and Jamaican Patty each. Lots of flavour and there is homemade (really) hot sauce if you like a punch. Main was supposed to be a piece of Jerk chicken and Peppered steak each but we got oxtail instead as they had run out of the steak. It was all very laid back. They make no secret that they cook once a day and reheat to serve. The jerk sauce was good as was the chicken and the oxtail was also really good. There was plenty of food and neither of us could finish the rice and peas. We have both eaten jamaican cooking extensively and it varies a lot across restaurants so authenticity is always going to subjective, yo us it was tasty, hot filling and good fun, So we didn't get 6 courses (Dishes) but 5 and it was a bit hit and miss but a good experience and good value for what we paid.

I've given Jerk Shack a few chances but I've had to give up now!On my previous visit I bought a Festival (a fried dumpling). I didn't realise that the festival in question was probably the Isle of Wight Festival of 1967 so hard and dried up was the dumpling. I had to throw it away.On my last visit I ordered Curry Goat with Rice n Peas with a Guinness punch. The goat was mostly bones and had a rather peculiar taste, I've been eating this all my life and this was definitely the worst I've ever tasted. The Guiness punch also had an odd taste and smell, really bitter and quite sickly: it also had to go in the bin because I found it undrinkable.Sad, I was so excited to find a Caribbean restaurant on my doorstep, have to go back to Shepherd's Bush now.

My husband and I visited this restaurant yesterday on a Groupon deal, the food was OK but the service was very poor. After placing our order we were given the bottle of wine but it took almost an hour for the starter to be brought to us. It was the same wait for the main course. It is only a small restaurant and there were only about 10 people seated so we could not understand why it took so long to be served. Every table was experiencing the same long wait, the waitresses were constantly apologising to people. A couple sitting at the table next to us was seated and no one came back to take their order for almost half and hour, when their order was taken they ordered drinks but they were not delivered, around 20 minutes later the husband decided that he was going to the shop to buy a drink (which he did). When we were leaving I spoke to one of the waitresses and told her of our disappointment with the service, I really think the management needs to look into why the service is so poor, as this seems to be an ongoing problem.I was totally amazed when the waitress I spoke to when leaving told me that they would normally charge us a service charge, however as I had complained about the service she would disregard it this time!

That should not put you off because the food is excellent.Groupon offer a good deal on this restaurant.

I have wrangle with myself regarding a rating for this establishment. Most of the food was very good. However too many negatives. I had booked a table for four upon arrival told we would be on separate tables when we said this was unacceptable tables were joined. Took 20 minutes before were offered drinks menu, further 20 minutes to serve drinks, when the drinks did arrive it was wrong. The coke was served in a 50ml glass for £1.50 (I though Claridges hotel was expensive but you get a full tin with nibbles £5.00).Starter patties, (best patties I have eaten outside Jamaica) jerk wings, barbecue wings and chicken soup very good, good sizes of chicken in soup although soup could be warmer.Main: peppered steak, very good, Jerk chicken good flavour but hardly any flesh mostly bone. Rice and peas very good but only served luke warm. Side salad , Ackee (suitable for vegetarians no salt fish), festival, fried dumplings and to ask for these server forgot to bring them, were all very good, presentation was very good. What really lets this place down is poor service due to having a lot of untrained waiting staff ( seem like extended family wanting to earn some pocket money) Serving staff lack confidence, could not assist with menu queries, mostly stood around not interacting with customers request. We had requested a bottle of wine although requested on two occasions it was not brought to the table until we had nearly finished eating.Although I have given a low rating the food overall was very good and I would give them a second chance. However the soft drink glasses need to increase in size and employ properly trained staff to wait on tables.

Not quite the colorful oasis in the culinary desert of Roehampton you would hope for, this welcoming place still provides good-value fare for fans of West Indian food, local students, takeaway merchants and the occasional big congregation, Belly-warming stews and rice'n'peas served with gravy and salad come in generous amounts ... a well-flavored fish stew and curry goat are tasty, but beware of the bones in the jerk chicken and the meagre meat content in the oxtail. Perhaps one complaint could be the lack of punch in the jerk seasoning - it's a pity it doesn't come in a choice of heat , and the bottle of Encona hot sauce is a poor substitute for, let's say , homemade chili chutneys. Now that would be something.Interestingly, I reheated several takeaway dishes a day later and everything tasted the same, suggesting a basic uniform spicing. But on the whole this joint is still worth keeping, even if it can't beat the hotspots of Brixton.

I was looking forward to my experience of Caribbean food, having read all about it and wanting to try so many things, but this place was not a good first experience place. The restaurant actually does more take away business than eat in and it shows. The service is friendly enough but not very helpful when asking questions about the food. You're on your own here. Don't expect answers, everything is vague and basically left up to you as to whether you might like it or not, if it's too hot or mild, if it comes with anything. It was obvious we weren't locals and were treated exactly like strangers or outsiders. If the staff here had a little foresight, they would have realised they are missing an opportunity to fill their restaurant with actual eat-in customers, bringing a buzz to a deadly quiet place. Instead you don't feel welcome to want to return. The food is ok but I've had better from street vendors, which says something. We started with Plantain and Ackee & Saltfish (see pic). The Plantain was dry and you needed to drink with it to get it down your throat, while the Ackee & Saltfish was really good and highly recommended. We also had Festival (see pic) which is like a giant doughnut, sweet and cinnamon flavoured which was enjoyable though a little dry.Mains were Jerk Chicken with Rice & Peas (see pic) which was really bad, I mean really, really bad. I've had Jerk Chicken a few times and it's usually got a sweet glaze while the dish served to me was like dried, microwaved to the max, burned outside chicken covered in pepper. Even when it was cut into pieces it is just hacked with a butcher's cleaver which means you get tiny bits of cooked sharp bone in every bite - good luck not choking on that! Not enjoyable at all, we couldn't finish our chicken on this basis. The Rice & Peas were very dry, quite tasty though you couldn't eat this without drinking a lot of liquid to get it down.We did enjoy their Pineapple Punch though (see pic), which is like a pineapple and coconut milkshake.

This restaurant gets thumbs up from me; the staff, food and atmosphere are all excellent. There is something homely about the establishment. On arrival I was met by friendly staff who were interested enough to know whether I had visited before. Being quite secluded on a quiet high street, I suspected this greeting was because I stood out for not being from the local community. Nonetheless, this greeting was extended to each person who arrived after me, making the experience feel more like genuine customer service, rather than special treatment. No stranger to good food, my palate has ventured far and wide discovering some of the most exotic and tasty foods London has to offer. Jerk Shack passed my expectations in many ways with the quality they had to offer, first with the impressive service and then the food. I attended yesterday (Sunday) and to my delight it was the launch of their Sunday buffet, which essentially meant, I got the pleasure of trying several tasty dishes for under £15!!!!! The price alone had me wary (I thought there was no way good food could be so cheap). That it was, cheap in price however, not cheap in quality. The food was authentically Caribbean and the staff even went as far as explaining dishes I was less familiar with. Taking advantage of the Sunday deal, I enjoyed the ackee and saltfish, )which I learned they would also start serving for breakfast the following morning), Stew Chicken, Rice and peas and oxtail. I completed (as best I could) the dish with Jerk Chicken which was finger licking amazing!!!! I was tempted by the other tasty looking dishes, however the additional freshly made salad and Guinness punch was enough to keep me going.

I was surprised this restaurant was not full although I visited early on a Thursday night. We visited as a family and ordered the large portions of Curry Goat, Stew Chicken and Jerk Chicken. We all enjoyed the pleasant flavours and good tasting food which is set at a reasonable price offering good value for money. The staff were warm, attentive and friendly and the restaurant clean, tidy and warmly decorated. I would have liked a wider choice of desserts and maybe some home made coconut icecream. The atmosphere, although good, could be improved with some authentic caribbean music and a more brightly dressed code for the staff.

I am a little confused with this restaurant. I was the only one in the shop when I entered. The food was good although despite it being lunchtime there was absolutely no one in the restaurant at all. I had to call out a few times to actually get someone to serve me.I ordered jerk chicken and it tasted good but there is something about this restaurant that left me feeling a little cold. Maybe it just needs to be a bit busier to create an atmosphere because when I called there was none. The chicken was good though.

I am from the West Indies, born and bred, (aka Caribbean), my father is West Indian. My grandfather is from another island (Jamaica). So, safe to say, I eat my fair share of West Indian food. Jerk Shack, as the name suggests, is pretty much Jamaican-focused. Here's the thing about West Indian food - Jamaican included: everyone thinks they know who cooks the best thing or, if they don't cook, where to get it. West Indians are tribal about food. For example, British people claim to know the best roast or yorkshire pudding, whether their grandmother's or their favourite pub. Americans claim to know the best BBQ, burger or hot dog in Manhattan. West Indians, in that sense, are know it alls about who does the best thing. So asking a West Indian about whether a particular place is really good or the best is bound to be divisive. The problem is you're not asking the right question. You should be asking: is the food authentic? Now that's a different question. Jerk Shack is representative of Jamaican food especially including street food and few home cooked dishes like:Mains: jerk chicken, curry goat, stew chicken, oxtail, fried coley fish, snapper, stew fish and cello (which in other islands is a side dish).Sides: callaloo (there it is), coleslaw, fritters, ackee & salts dumplings, festivals and a range of patties. These are pretty affordable too, around £5. We usually get take out because we live just behind the place but there is plenty of seating inside. The owner is really friendly and will happily talk to you for ages while you're food is being made. Do I think this is the best Jamaican food I've ever had? that's the wrong question, but I do go back time after time especially when I cannot be bothered to cook for myself and each time I am comforted and reminded of how good Jamaican and Caribbean food really is.

I often come here with a friend of mine and the staff know us and ask about how we are doing. I love the variety of meats and oh boy the quantities!
