Jen Jen’s Caribbean kitchen in Wakefield

Ordered here for the first time and will not be the last. Wanted to give this place a whirl and the cook on everything was so clean, sharp and vibrant exactly what you want from good Caribbean food. The jerk chicken bowl, rice and peas with a cool coconut taste to them were on point as was the plantain. Flavoursome and all harmonise together. For me the standout was Jen’s pepper wings. So many times places promise hot wings and they’re frankly lacking… not this place! They say spice and they mean business but so well balanced you still get the sweet and sour notes through the burst of heat moist and off the bone easy absolutely knockout!!

This place has the most amazing food! My partner and I ordered the other day and couldn’t stop thinking about the flavour so ordered again already. Seriously delicious! Only thing would be that it was late both times by quite a significant amount of time. However, I appreciate they are only a small restaurant and probably get very busy with how delicious the food is. I am more than happy to be patient for food this fantastic!

I really struggled between giving this a 4 or a 5 star. The jerk chicken, rice, beans and plantain were absolutely phenomenal. However, the fried chicken wrap was full of lettuce and I specifically requested it without lettuce. I absolutely despise the stuff and I can’t eat anything with it in. People claim it has virtually no flavour, but it does, and it’s awful. So I couldn’t eat it and at £9 for a wrap it’s very expensive for the order to be wrong. Ultimately, the other dish was so good that overall it would be harsh to knock a full star off when there’s nothing similar in the area or close to the quality, and I wouldn’t hesitate to order again. So my only suggestion would be to make sure removal of lettuce and other salad items from wraps etc is done on the item itself and not requested in the “notes” box of Deliveroo, Just Eat etc.

We went and sat in for some food on Saturday. The staff were really friendly and food was so good. Even had extra spicy sauce added to my jerk box. Proper nice reccomend the chicken jerk 👌

I tried Jen Jen’s for the first time tonight, and if I could give more than 5 stars, I would! I drove in from another city since mine doesn’t have a Jamaican spot, and it was absolutely worth the trip. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The service was amazing—the lady and gentleman who helped me (wish I got their names!) were super friendly and made me feel welcome. The food was unbelievable. We got the Goat Curry with Rice & Peas and a Jen’s Jerk Box. The meats were super tender, and both dishes were packed with flavor. I can’t say enough about how good the whole experience was. I’ll definitely be coming back—thanks for an incredible meal!

Beautiful food. Really pleasantly surprised, dutty fries are a decent portion and my husband loved the honey bbq wings. We will definitely be back!

Travelled an hour to taste Caribbean….and was not disappointed, the goat curry and jerk chicken, both on the bone was perfect!!plantain, Mac and cheese was sublime!! Great people, the owner was attentive and had a banging meal thank Jen Jen’s!!see you soon!

Makes me miss London this place! The curry goat is so succulent and tender with the right spice level. The jerk chicken is very decent, I wish they did chicken leg or thigh pieces instead of breast but it’s still banging. I drive all the way from Dewsbury to come collect a box or two. Highly recommend for people craving their Jamaican/Trini food.

I recently had the pleasure of ordering from your Caribbean restaurant, and the experience was exceptional. I will try to be honest not harsh. The spicy wings are simply lathered with Red Hot wing sauce , the wings itself had no flavour. The shop called and apologised for running out burger bun but sent a can of pop instead, made a wrap instead all good there. order was for double burger and one for wrap. there was no marking on the wrap to say which one is double. both wrap had similar amount of chicken, which could either mean the shop made both wrap double or forgot to make one double.

You will not be disappointed, the recent five-star reviews are all spot on. The food was sublime, the dutty jerk loaded fries were very tasty, and the fried chicken wings were incredible, much better than your nearest big chain fast food fried chicken. I ordered online to have food delivered to Normanton, and the food was still piping hot when it arrived. Give this place a try and you will order again. Superb!

This lovely family run restaurant and take away serving authentic Caribbean food is a real hidden gem, nestled in a quiet street just off Kitkgate. Judging by the food Jen Jens is set to become a real favourite with anyone who loves delicious, feesh food which is cooked with obvious love, passion and talent. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, mac and cheese, plantain and the ever so hot hot sauce. Utterly delicious. My husband had curry goat with rice and peas. Also utterly delicious. We live in Barnsley but we will be back for more of this delicious food. The owner Leon is a lovely man. His daughter was also working there Great atmosphere. Top notch.

You probably won’t walk past Jen Jen’s, it’s tucked away on a little back street, but you should go out of your way. You definitely won’t walk past without going in when you taste the food, it’s outstanding. Goat curry, jerk chicken and many other Caribbean staples that are home cooked with a real and obvious passion. Ask about their hot sauce, it does not disappoint. You need to try this place.

I Tried jen jens for the first time, give it a 5 star for everything specially the food. I ordered online for pick up and was greeted by my name on arrival by the owner. He made sure I knew everything was in my order and if I had any problems he 100% wanted me to contact him. Shops is set out perfect for the type of food. Family run and from what I seen they are all lovely. Caribbean food is very hard to come by, so having this not to far from home is a gem. (These portions are huge 👍)

Waited 45 minutes for our order, we were the only ones in and there was only one other pick up whilst we were there so I don’t think it was over run. When we finally got it the girl on the counter had to pass the news that the chef had forgotten half of the festivals and that we could either wait, or have money back. Bit disappointed because they are one of my favourite things. Got home and the mac and cheese was so dry that you couldn’t even penetrate it with a knife. Also disappointing. It’s a shame because we’d hoped that we could stop driving to Leeds if we had found a decent place closer to home :(

Ordered both meal deals from here to take away. Thoroughly enjoyed both (preferred the jerk flavour over the peri peri one). Staff were friendly and food is well priced too. Will definitely be coming back again!

Absolutely stunning food. First time trying this place and I'll definitely be back. I had the stew beef, rice and peas and it is up there with one of the best takeaways I've had. Cooked on time, hot, full of flavour and a kick. Can't rate this enough!

food was nice ish but not what I expected. menu said had 3x cheese on however unless it is primula they have used there was no cheese couldn't decide if it was squeezy cheese or burger sauce but definitely not what I expected. ruined the meal as can't have burger sauce.

Amazing food - so good we went twice in two days. One of the best goat curries we've had in a long time! Proper authentic Caribbean food with as proper friendly family feel - you don't find dumplings many places! Even when they forgot the dumplings on the first day, they were so apologetic and made up for it the next day. It's worth noting the curries are cooked so low and slow that it falls off the bone so easily that you may get the odd bit of bone to pick out, but it's worth it!

First time customers; myself and two children, honestly best burger I've ever had and the cheesy goodness was soooo good :) Loved that when we received our order bags they had "Enjoy" and a drawn smiley :) on them both, as a person who draws smileys like that a lot, it made the eating experience more exciting to try our new food! Food was so delicious i will absolutely be ordering again. Portions are really generous. I was able to have my main for dinner and lunch the next day. Food was bursting with flavour, arrived piping hot (i had to wait for it to cool down slightly).

Being a Caribbean takeaway I thought the Mac and cheese would’ve been 10 10 but it was dry and inedible tbh as you can tell from the picture. Onion rings were soggy. The only thing I ate was the coleslaw until I tried the chicken and pulled a blonde hair out of my mouth 🤮 sorry but never again

When I saw RIP written on one of the boxes I was a bit worried, but it was shorthand for the delicious rice and peas ;) the curried goat was very tender and succulent, I also highly recommend the coleslaw.

Very tasty food. Very pleasant staff. If this was a large restaurant it would be full to the rafters every day. Its basically a takeaway with a couple of tables but you must give them a try.

This place is the absolute best takeaway food in Wakefield. Perfect every time and amazing to have a Caribbean food place that does chicken breast too!

Ordered from Jen Jens last week on the way back home from a weekend away with the missus. We had 2x curry goat with dumplings. On collection I met with one of the owners and had a great chat, he was friendly and made me feel welcomed. There was a little wait for the food but didn't mind as I knew everything would be fresh. The food didn't disappoint and I'll be ordering again tonight for me and the missus! Definitely earned a new loyal customer! Respect to the Jen Jen team.

Can’t rate Jen Jen’s highly enough! The jerk chicken, rice n pea with that heavenly jerk sauce.. no words. The honey buffalo wings are to die for. I tried to replicate them at home… safe to say no where near as nice as jens. Iv also tried the jerk burger… 10/10 Chips.. nice and crispy, no complaints. Very clean, good atmosphere inside, good music. Few spots to park outside the shop while you eat. This food is good for the soul. Can’t wait to go again.

I ordered curried goat chips and chicken wings, have to say the wings are the best I’ve had the barbecue hot sauce that came on the wings was lovely, Really good food happy to recommend. Friendly delivery guy apologised for it being late but to be honest it wasn’t that late, no problem at all.

Really disappointed had Goat curry,very little meat content it was mainly a container full of bones.Carrot cake was OK tho,almost 30 mins late.Spent £20 on cheeky Tuesday discount night so would of cost more,underwhelming and would not use again

Curry goat has been my comfort food for a few years now, and I've not been able to find anywhere that sells it. You know it's good food when it makes you feel better after being full of cold all week 🥹

Food always tastes amazing, one slight criticism on last order, the curry goat portion was a bit smaller with a lot more bones than usual but every order in past been spot on.

Food was 45 minutes late and arrived cold. I wouldn’t have minded the lateness and the cold food if the food was good waited until 9 30pm to have curry goat. To have it cold, oily and watery. As a Jamaican native i know what curried goat looks like i make it myself. I wanna support black owned businesses but they also gotta do better. Went hungry tonight. Man on the phone was nice tho.

Worst 'meal' I've ever eaten. The food definitely wasn't fresh, macaroni cheese like a concrete slab and burnt, chicken was more like a huge bone and the rice and peas tasted like a microwave packet. Also massively late, huge waste of £20.00 for one meal that was inedible. Massively disappointed

It was really nice & will be order from here again it was really quick to come as well.
