Janet's Authentic Northern Chinese Restaurant in Rhondda Cynon Taf

This has to be one of the best Chinese meals I have ever had. Everything was super tasty, even down to the rice! I mean if they can make rice moreish, then my god! The staff were really friendly and helpful, even though the restaurant was very busy at the time of our visit. To top it off, they let us order an extra meal to take away! Cannot recommend this place enough. Grab a seat while you can!

Food was delicious, 5 star. Everything we ordered was delicious. Service was excellent. Will definitely be going back sooner rather than later.

We decided to go here for a birthday celebration after hearing how amazing the food was, and people weren’t wrong. The dishes we had were 10/10, delicious and tasty food! However, unfortunately we left very underwhelmed. The atmosphere was 4/10 and the service 2/10. We were sat for 30-35 minutes before being served for our drinks. We had to ask for the bill twice before given the opportunity to pay. I understand it is also summer time, however there were numerous flies in the restaurant area, this was extremely annoying whilst trying to eat our food. Although we would return to Janet’s it would not be anytime soon.

Booked for Janet’s as never tried it before and other people had said how good it was. It has moved from its place in the market as this was too small. We booked for midday and the restaurant’s front was open. We went in but had to wait while the waiting staff went to find out whether we could sit at the front. This process took a while which my husband who can’t stand for too long found frustrating. Once we were seated, the waitress came over and sorted out all of our drink and food choices. The restaurant was fairly busy but not overflowing, so all of the fuss over a reserved table was nonsense. Food choices included duck in boa buns, spring rolls, beef and rice and sweet and sour fried pork. The spring rolls were tasty, the sweet and sour fried pork was a small dish but loads of sauce and quite greasy. We didn’t stay long after we’d finished our meal. In fact, we did consider having a desert but no menu was available. Overall, this restaurant would be good if they improved their front of house staff. Disappointed. We’ve had better food at the Thai Cafe in the market, better value and also at Rustico.

I have walked passed many times so thought that I should try it. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it was very busy. My first course were 2 duck bao freshly steamed buns with duck and hoisin sauce. I have never tried this before but thought that they were just O.K. My main course were Korean honey chicken thighs coated in crispy batter then smeared in a honey and chilli paste. This was much better and rated at the 1 chilli mark. Just enough to give it a kick and not over power the actual taste but it still needs a side bowl of steamed rice. Recommended at £14.90. Meanwhile Madame opted for the beef noodles which she wasn't too happy with - not enough beef and too many noodles but the plates were returned empty so make of that what you want, again main meal coming in at £14.90. We were served a bottle of Primitivo Appassimento Italian organic wine (2021), the most expensive red on the list, which was probably the best in the restaurant and just right for the beef. Recommended. Good price in a restaurant for £25.95. Toilets clean and this restaurant really opened early 2024. 30 covers in total and very busy even mid week so booking advisable. N.B. Meals arrive when cooked and not in normal order of selection which I found puzzling. N.B. Table 10 is right underneath the loudspeaker playing 1960's music. N.B. The couple sitting at the table alongside had the Mr. hiding a bouquet of flowers under the table for the Miss. so we'll call it a romantic place!

They ran out of several things from the menu even including beer and the waitresses are half soaked but the food really is top drawer. Can’t wait to go again.

5* for the food... I cannot fault it (small portions if not accompanied with starters). Service was a little poor... we had to ask for our prawn crackers at the kitchen... then take them over to our table ourselves. I also had to ask for more water via the kitchen as there was no staff on the floor looking after tables. The part that left me gob smacked was the bill... be prepared to pay 20% VAT on everything on the menu! I didn't see this disclosed anywhere. You don't go to Miller and Carter and order a £45 steak to have an additional 20% put on the bill at the end... VAT should be included! Needless to say they did not have a tip off us! The overall bill came to £103.20p for 4 people (no drinks, we had pre-drinks and it was a late sitting) which i thought was reasonable... but to whack on another 20% is totally unacceptable in my opinion! If the menu said ex VAT then fair enough... or just include it in the price. I had the prawn curry at £15.90p , had you said this was £19.08p... i still would have paid! The non-disclosure of this left a very bitter taste in my mouth. Would i go back? yes! this is not a rant on the price... its the non transparency of it all.

Went to this little gem because of a tip off from a friend. Hung around after work to get in when it opened at 5.30. Service was awesome, food even better. I had the Honey Chicken with rice and the Sui Mai also. Amazing flavours, good value and will definitely go back next time I am in the area!!!

The food I’ve just tried from Janet’s was insane. To think I’ve lived ten minutes for the pat six months and have never tried Janet’s. Today I had a table for two for myself and my partner and the food was absolutely stunning, reasonably priced, with amazing service. If you prefer curry and chips please stay away as this place is not for you, if you like amazing food that will send your taste buds crazy then please try Janet’s and you will not disappointed. A jewel and a hidden gem in Pontypridd, a place that I will definitely be visiting again and again.

An absolutely amazing evening, the waitresses were so attentive and friendly, they could not do enough for us all. What a fabulous little restaurant, best meal we've had out in a long time ! The food was outstanding - from a delicious starter of pork and kimchi gyozas to gorgeous crispy sweet & sour pork, Korean honey chicken, belly pork and cumin lamb. Terrible service waited almost 15/20 minuted without a menu or a drink. Had to ask for a drink to be served luke warm cans of pop. The food wasnt great, average at best. It was my birthday and we was so looking forward to eating her, will definitely not be going there again. Very average food and average quality.

This was my 5th visit to Janet's restaurant and once again it didn't disappoint. The new premises have been very tastefully decorated. The food was exceptional, my favourites being the Korean Honey Chicken and Crispy Sweet and Sour Pork. This time I tried the Beef Fried Noodles, which I would certainly recommend. I will definitely be visiting for a 6th time.

Stunning lunchtime meal - the food cooked to perfection and great service. We had the crispy sweet and sour pork and Korean honey chicken for mains and they were both to die for. Didn’t have to wait long even though the restaurant was busy and the food was freshly cooked. The staff working there were friendly and attentive. Washed down with a couple of bottles of Tsingtao - perfect. Can’t wait to visit again!
