Absolutely love this place. Bought some stuff to take for a picnic, my god the rare beef sarnie is delicious! Love that you can choose what bread you have also. Great prices on all the other bits such as sausage rolls, Scotch eggs and pies. We got abit of everything and was a very reasonable price. Don't mind waiting in a long que for lovely quality food. Only thing I will say is the chalk boards can be abit much to look through, almost too much going on to choose what you want, but generally if you know what sarnie your after I think they can just make it up. I got a rare beef, horseradish, lettuce and onion in a white roll, this exact combo wasn't on the chalk board but no problems them making it. Will 100% be back here time and time again. Thank for the delicious food.

A huge Thank you to Kelly for providing such delicious food for my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary . Without exception everyone of the guests had high praise for the lovely food, freshly made, fab flavours . I would highly recommend using James Patrick for and function you may have .Yummy

Big thank you to Kelly and the James Patrick Team. Ordered some outside catering for a small family gathering and the food was delicious! Ordered the Gold Buffet, 2 Lasagnes and a Tiramisu which were tasty and well presented. Nothing was to much trouble and I will definitely use James Patrick again.

I visit James Patrick every week usually 2 or 3 times, the staff are always very professional, friendly, and helpful. The food is to die for, so much choice, amazing sandwich selection, tasty soups, fresh salads and much much more. Amazing, every time, 10 out of 10 always. Keep up the great work and thanks.

Usually enjoy the food from here however the service is always absolutely awful. The staff are very rude and food takes forever to be made as the staff seem to be distracted by personal conversations, both with co workers and some customers. The staff also appear to have favourites who they will serve first, on my most recent visit a woman who was two people behind was served before us as the staff appeared to be friends with her. I enjoy the food here however each time I come back the service seems to get worse which is very off putting, I can’t see myself coming back if this continues. I have spoken to other locals who I know come here who also agree with this decline in service. Would love to see an improvement!!!

Just visited this deli service very rude while l was waiting guy walked in when straight into the kitchen walking past the hand sanitiser chatted to those in the kitchen gave them a hug and walked out so much for COVID control won’t be back

I have had 2 James Patrick experiences in the last few weeks so have documented both in this one review! 1) My friend and I were in need of a lockdown treat so when restrictions were lifted slightly we decided to have a midweek socially distanced afternoon tea/picnic in the nearby park. We pre-ordered our afternoon teas and my husband kindly collected our boxed order from James Patrick. My husband and I had recently had an afternoon tea each and thoroughly enjoyed it. However this was not a patch on the previous one. There were only 2 types of sandwiches on this occasion, the quiche was much smaller and the pork pie was more ordinary. Worst of all, there was NO clotted cream with the scones! Maybe they make more effort with the afternoon teas at the weekend! It was a lovely sunny day fortunately so it was still a treat. The afternoon tea was well packaged, each in a covered plastic box and each contained: 2 x sausage rolls, a small quiche (halved), a small pork pie (halved) 4 x triangle sandwiches (egg mayo and tuna mayo), a pot of creamy coleslaw and carrot salad. There was also a large scone and a pot of jam (but NO CLOTTED CREAM). It was very nice! The sandwiches had plenty of filling and the quiche was tasty. The pork pie was average this time. At £11 per person it was still good value and all good quality. We enjoyed our picnic anyway. 2) This was a Saturday treat as consolation on the day that we should have gone away on holiday! We ordered the cake afternoon tea on this occasion as opposed to the scone afternoon tea that we had previously. My husband collected the pre-ordered teas from the shop at the requested time although he did have to queue outside for a while. The afternoon tea was well packaged, each in a covered plastic box and each contained: 2 x sausage rolls, a small salmon quiche (halved), a small pork pie (halved) and 4 x triangle sandwiches. The sandwiches were really tasty and made with nice bread. We had chicken mayo, ham salad, cheese & coleslaw. There was also a pot of creamy coleslaw and carrot salad each. There was also a small cake selection this time (instead of a scone); slightly different on each platter. There was an almond sandwich cake, carrot cake (2 different batches, one was moist and fresh, the other dry and old), lemon cake (lovely and moist), and flapjack (a bit dry again). We had enough left over for lunch the following day! At £11 per person it was good value and mostly good quality.

We were in need of a lockdown treat on the VE Day weekend and someone told us that you can pre-order and collect a boxed afternoon tea from James Patrick. As this is a 5 minute walk away it sounded ideal. I left it in my husband’s capable hands to organise while I was at work. It was a fantastic hot sunny day so we decided to have it in the garden and make an occasion of it. So, he put on a shirt, I put on a dress and I found a tablecloth, made up a tiered cake stand and opened the chilled prosecco! He duly collected our treat which was well packaged in 2 plastic boxes. In each box were 2 x sausage rolls, a small salmon quiche (halved), a whole pork pie (quartered) 4 x triangle sandwiches (egg mayo, cheese & pickle, pastrami, tuna mayo), a pot of creamy coleslaw and carrot salad. There was also a large scone and a little pot of clotted cream and also of lovely jam. It was all gorgeous! The sandwiches had loads of filling and the quiche was lovely. I won’t normally touch pork pie but even this was very nice and tasty. I had to save some of mine for later although my husband managed all of his! I was a little disappointed that there was no cake but hubby tells me when he ordered he was given a choice of savoury or cake and he chose savoury. Sounds like we will just have to order another one..... At £11 per person it was good value and all top notch quality. I recommend. Go on, treat yourself!

Queued for a while to get in but wasn't disappointed. Had a chorizo sausage roll that was great. Maybe a little expensive for some but the quality shows in the finished product!

I use Patrick's on my frequent visits to the area usually for lunch time sandwiches/wraps. There is no doubting that the food is excellent, however I have found that the staff are incredibly slow in preparing orders and not particularly friendly - a smile would go a long way! If there was more competition of a similar nature in Hessle they would definitely have to improve their customer service skills.

Visited James Patrick Delicatessen on many occasions, always enjoyed the variety of sandwich options. Unfortunately our past few visits the staff have had a bad attitude, this is such a shame as we have always loved our James Patrick lunches!

Visited here numerous times now. The sandwiches are just above average however the service is appalling, the staff seem to be annoyed to be carrying out there job as a sandwich artist and have a very bad attitude on every visit. If it wasn’t for their just above mediocre sandwiches I wouldn’t be spending my money here

Typing this as waiting in the queue... been here since 11.35 to pick up an order and only just having it bagged up now. Really disappointed as this was a large order!

Use this Deli regularly and today we fancied some of our usual things,everything was great apart from the 6 breadcakes we bought,these did not look or taste like their own breadcakes the ones they sold us i am quietly confident they had bought from somewhere else and resembled the cheaper breadcakes in those clear wrappers as the ones i bought where also all joined together with dry edges,if they had mentioned it we would not have bought them.

Such a fabulous choice here to take away. We absolutely love the rare roast beef! Pate is delicious too. On such a lovely warm day we sat on the pavement tables and had a lovely cappuccino with biscotti. Very nice treat.

Probably the best ham salad sandwich I’ve had. Lovely proper ham,fresh salad and very tasty bread roll. Definitely will go again.

As always excellent quality, I went for the ham salad with chilli humous on ciabatta. Absolutely divine! Can’t wait for my next visit.

What an amazing selection of food at this lovely delicatessen. I'd heard great things from a friend who regularly buys from this delicatessen yet I'd never visited myself until last week. I met a friend for lunch and just wanted an easy lunch to take to the park and sit in the sunshine. So many choices on boards displayed in the shop, the food on offer in the counter was mouth watering... Such a range, really Spolit for choice. It was hard to choose but I did.

This is my go to place for lunch, brunch or simply a snack and coffee.

Great service. The variety of food on offer is fantastic. there really is something for everyone. The homemade soups are always amazing, in fact, I haven't had a bad soup yet! Love this place!

Best deli in Hull area and probs further afield. Great selection of sandwiches etc. Eaten here/purchased here many many times and am always happy to go back

James Patrick is the only place I go when I am looking for a nice fresh sandwich and in the winter months and nice quirky soup. I have tried others but none of them stand up to the quality of the food and also the quality of the service, the staff are always polite and friendly and nothing is every too much, and being a long term customer it is nice to see great staff retention and this really stands James Patrick out from the rest. Keep up the good work and I will be back in at the weekend.

Return customers to this excellent deli. Plenty to tempt the tasebuds here! Lunchtime sandwiches and paninis arw a good deep fill and are Just wonderful- u dont need a packet of crisps to supplement a sandwich here! Friendly efficient service from owner/staff

James Patrick Delicatessen has been open for many years now , it has always served excellent food . The choice of home cooked meats , pastries , soups etc. is first class , the prices are reasonable , the staff are efficient and friendly , I would recommend this deli absolutely !

Home made, delicious food. The staff are knowledgeable and polite. Good time after time. Try one of these he specially sandwiches followed by a delicious home made cake. A real treat!

Excellent food and service. So much to choose from. Lovely smell of fresh food, reminds me of the smells when your on holiday in Italy. All the staff are lovely too.

I make regular visits to the James Patrick's when i want to have a treat . I love the sandwiches and the brownies are amazing! I fully recommend them!

Upon my recent visit to James Patrick, which I very much enjoyed, I couldn't help but notice the lack of Halloween spirit in the air. I did however get a whiff of the chocolate brownie which I can confirm is delightful! But I couldn't help but imagine how much more lively the Christmas atmosphere could be if the festivities were celebrated! Staff in Christmas themed outfits could really draw the public in and make James Patrick the high point of Christmas. Hope this review was elful!;)

Really nice sandwiches etc here. A couple of the staff seem a bit dopey and don't seem to know the menu, looking around a bit gormlessly when you order certain sandwiches and the like. Good selection and quality food, but you do pay a premium for this.Try the rare beef with creamy pepper sauce and caramelised red onions.

used by myself and work colleagues as a payday treat, always a queue out the door but worth the wait or sometimes we pre order so its ready for collection with no waiting time, can highly recommend the crayfish wrap

Of then grab a sandwich from here, whilst a little more expensive than other sandwich/delicatessans the quality of the food is amazing

When I visited it was extremely busy but after waiting for a little while in the que, I was warmly greeted by a member of staff whom could not have been any more helpful. The food was simply amazing and I can now see why there was such a long que. I'll definitely be paying more visits to James Patrick in the future. Keep up the good work

looked for vegetarian items.i bought stuffed olives which were large greek,yorkshire blue cheese,a piece of vegetarian loaf which had lentals &onionwith other ingredients. i,m going there again asi enjoyed what had. the layout of every thing was good. the staff were helpful.i recermend this shop.

What a great find- excellent choice for lunchtime treats. Freshly made and deep filled sandwiches, hot tasty ciabattas, wonderful quiches ......And more !! Not cheap but excellent quality , fresh produce.

Came in for a coupe of pig sandwiches and ordered them without onion chutney. Waited a while for them to be made, got home and found lots of onion chutney in both of them. I ate mine however my husband had to scrape them off his sandwich and he could still taste it. If it was busy I could understand them being put on by accident, but I was the only customer for most of my visit. Would still eat here again as the sandwiches are usually amazing

Now a great fan of James Patrick Delicatessen's selection of kisches. Absolutely delicious and hugely satisfying. You can buy a wedge to satisfy your immediate appetite or order a whole one and treat the family or party gathering and guaranteed to please everybody.Delicious, wholesome, old-fashioned baking. Occasionally get lunch from this place at work, always brilliant! Fairly expensive, which is why we go occasionally rather than every day, but overall it's well worth the money.Love the rare beef with pepper sauce & caramelised red onion ciabatta, and the peanut & marshmallow brownie is, regrettably, better than most sex.Well recommended.

It is no wonder that people travel from far and wide to come here and the long queue at lunchtime is testament to the excellent food available.I have frequently visited this place for years and have always received the same level of quality - it is amazingly good and amazingly consistent.There is a huge choice available and i love the new menu changes that occur every few months. As well as great sandwiches they are also a great deli with amazing choice of cheese and pasta.

Love the sandwiches and the majority of the staff are always happy and bubbly.Possibly consider one person dealing with the money or wearing gloves to make the sandwiches and taking them off for dealing with the money like they do in Subway.

Always busy but no matter what there is time for swift efficient service! Can recommend any time. A great favourite with the office worker who is prepared to wait in the queue which stretches outside the shop and along the street. The food on offer is always fresh and of high quality.

Me and the Lass went here today to grab a quick sandwich. Absolutely loads on the menu, enough to suit anyone’s taste. We were very hungry so just picked first thing we saw. Like the seating area outside aswell always much nicer when you can sit down and enjoy a good sandwich 10 / 10

Spoiled for choice. Massive selection on offer. This is a rather upmarket takeaway delicatessen . Be prepared to wait on a lunchtime, they offer more than a sandwich here, you have a good choice of bread and rolls to choose from then there is a choice of hot or cold fillings . I don't know how long it take s for someone to think of all these fillings but they are certainly well thought through and they offer some excellent combinations . The deli counter is array with all sorts of tasty treats and it is easy to get carried away by buying little bit of this and a little bit of that and ,oh my goodness that looks delicious , , be warned you could come away with more than you went in for. It is slightly pricier than other shops but if you fancy a good quality treat then they won't disappoint.

I quickly reminded myself that I'm a very happily married man and, refusing to be distracted by the bustling beauties waiting to take and make my order, concentrated on the menu boards.What a huge array of tempting delights on offer! Ingredients and flavours are varied and enticing. Some are tried and tested combinations while others stretch into less familiar territory. I had three family members awaiting my return with food for lunch. I finally arrived with meat, cheese, fish, vegetable and salad fillings for (mostly) ciabatta rolls. I’d added some Cajun spiced salmon fillets at the last minute to top up. All were set upon with eagerness. Eating was accompanied by more appreciative oohs and aahs than usual for a casual meal. There were interested enquiries after all the elements on offer. You should enjoy making your own selections at the deli and I won’t bother to reveal full details of what we shared (in roughly equal portions since no-one wanted to miss any of the five combinations) I will single out the Parma ham, fig chutney & Cambozola cheese but, in fairness, every roll delivered enough lovely flavour hits to regularly interrupt family chatter.The queue was long but patient and good-natured. If you want to by-pass that process you can always email an order. Ours was a take-away for a relaxed lunch but I can imagine that plenty of people use James Patrick as a delightful escape from their workplace.It's great to know that Hessle has a reliable supplier of such tasty food... We'll be exploring their other choices very soon.

James Patrick is most probably the best delectessen I have ever tried,the quality of the food is absolutely outstanding.There is always a queue outside the shop but I'm not surprised because the food is certainly worth the wait.Well done for an all round 5 star quality performance.I wish there were more shops as good as this one then I wouldn't have to travel as far.Well worth a drive and I would definitely recommend to anyone as you won't be disappointed.

My little girl loves sandwiches from here! As a treat anyway because she has very expensive taste. The food is out of this world and the sandwich choices on the boards makes it hard to choose. I often go for the rare beef and caramelised onion in ciabata bread. My little princess sticks to the tuna mayo in ciabata! The place is spotless and clean and staff are friendly too. It is always really busy I wish that he would open a cafe bar or restaurant as I would be there all the time. And he would make a small fortune this way! Love this deli to bits!☺

If I feel lazy and can't be bothered to make myself a sandwich, I get the good people at James Patrick to do it for me, and they do a sterling job. Top quality meat, delicious range of breads and made quickly to your specifications. Special mention to the cakes too - yum! Not the cheapest sandwich I've bought but certainly the best tasting!

We now make a pilgrimage every couple of weeks to James Patrick to buy not only Pork Pies but the little savoury tarts, the cheese, the peanut butter flapjacks (which incidentally are the best I have ever tasted). More and more often though they are selling out quickly so it is important to get in there as early as you can in the day to be sure (well almost sure) of getting what you want.

Everything is quality, when you go to a deli, there is often people that have the expertise and pleasure in working professionally. The staff here are so quick considering the personal service the hand made choice of super sandwiches and allot more. The entire range of continental and local produce is a taste of its own and soak up the aroma.Quality quality quality.

Great range of food available. Staff always happy to help and very knowledgeable regarding produce. Rare roast beef sandwich with peppercorn sauce and balsamic onions is without a doubt the nicest sandwich I have ever eaten. Cakes are nice, good cheese selection and deli counter with olives and antipasti is always nice. Balsamic onions are a must buy!!

The food is fairly tasty but for the price you don't get much. The sandwiches tend not to have much filling and the tasca bread with roast vegetables was mainly just toasted bread.

just happened on this deli when I went to the opticians. We bought two pork, apple and picle pies. They were Andrew Jones pies and oh my goodness were they good! We bought bread too and we were not disappointed. Will be back!

Fantastic sandwich collection but a bit pricey. Queues at lunchtime can be out of the door and down the street. Large cold meat, dessert selection and again seem expendive as do all condiments, spices, sauces displayed throughout shop.Little dissapointed that new soup cartons seem smaller and choice of soups (which taste great) has been reduced over the last 6 months.Focus on the taste and not the cost and all will be well with the world!!.

Just the thought of how amazing the food is here makes my mouth water, its faultless. And although very busy (queues out of the door) on a lunch time, you still get a smile from the staff.

Firstly I must say the reason that this was not a lower score was that I have had sandwiches previously which were good quality and reasonably priced.My last visit however was to purchase a salad as part of a 'health kick'. There were a range of toppings on display and two choices, small box for £3.25 or medium box for £5. The base salad was simply layers of lettuce with tomato and I chose onions. This made up 80% of the box!! I then had the choice of only 5 of the 25 toppings on display which left me disappointed.This shop has great sandwiches but really need to look at their salad offering as this lets them down.

Good selection of sandwich fillers on numerous types of bread. Quite a few homemade options. The cakes are amazing. Good quality deli. Very busy over lunch but staff are quick on serving to keep queue moving.

Lots of choice and a nice display of food. Looks clean and staff are happy to assist with their knowledge of their products.

You have to take your time to read all the choices they have. They have dozens of different fillings for sandwiches as well as a specials board. My advice is don't go across lunch the queue is out the door.

whenever I need to grab a sandwich in the area, this is the go to place. As I frequent Hessle a lot this is the place I choose as it has an array of good foods. Unfortunately the short blonde haired server with the sullen face has put me off. No manners and almost threw my sandwich at me. She really didn't want to be there. The staff are usually lovely. The sandwich was the smallest amount of beef and salad and covered in Mayo which I asked not to be put on. If I had the time I would have returned it but I was well on my way home before I noticed. How disappointing. Won't be risking that again. Next time I will try the cafe over the road.

Ciabatta, fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil pesto mayonnaise.To die for......I absolutely love this place, you are guaranteed to get service with a smile and there is such a wide range of sandwiches!The deli food always looks fantastic but I am yet to try as I have only ever nipped in on a work lunch break. Some people would say that it is overpriced for a sandwich, but you definitely get what you pay for!DEVINE!!!

I love this deli - so much to choose from that I have to decide what I want before I go! The amount of home cooked items like pies and terrines always look lovely, and an amazing array of olives. Brilliant little place - much better than The Real Sandwich Co also in Hessle.

Good food and always grab food from here when I'm in the area. There is a good choice of veggie sandwiches which is great and I love the choice of breads on offer.

Excellent range of super local and international produce; fab, helpful staff. Some items a bit on the pricey side but you definitely get what you pay for! Well worth a visit.

I will write a review of this excellent deli when you accept that this is not a restaurant but a Deli. You may have been misled by the fact that one can buy coffee or soup to take away.

Winter normally fills me with dread but the upside of the cold weather is James Patricks soup! If you haven't tried it (changes from day to day) you must! Delicious!

New to the area and was somewhat peckish. Phenomenal choice of food to have and that's before you look at the sandwich fillings!Highly recommend grabbing a bite in here, you won't be disappointed.

Have used this place on and off for a number of years. Nice deli with some lovely choices. Parking can be a problem but you can't really blame them for that. I recommend the mexican chicken ciabatta.

Ideal for a take out lunch and also just as good for some nice treats to take home, I always grab a sandwich before I get my hair done across the road it's my little treat.

Mainly a deli with an outstanding lunchtime takeaway trade, there are also outside tables on The Weir, a street with a small selection of upmarket shops.The deli focuses on fresh produce and own-cooked and baked foods. An enormous choice of sandwiches in various artisanal breads is accompanied by excellent Lavazza coffee. Lunchtimes are busy as many local office workers tread the path to James Patrick and queue for their own special sandwich.There is also an excellent selection of flapjacks and tiffins, as well as cold meats, tarts, quiches and cheeses.James Patrick's staff are efficient and cheerful. The deli operates a loyalty card, so frequent visitors are rewarded.If you are in Hessle, particularly on The Weir, I recommend a short stop at James Patrick to try the coffee and maybe a fruity flapjack. You won't be disappointed.
