Jack's Surf Bar in Allerdale

Place is becoming an eyesore, tatty, more signs, blackboards and banners than necessary.... Needs a good scrub and brush up.. Food wise, you get what you pay for... It won't win any awards.... Don't upset the "rottweiler".... Or his mates.

Would have given 5 stars, unfortunately dogs are not allowed inside. However I have no problem with that, what I did find disappointing was the very limited menu (compared to inside). I've never been to a pub that doesn't serve the same food options inside and outside.

We are here twice while on a recent stay at allonby and have to say we were not disappointed by the food and service, we had a sandwich on one day and a larger meal the next day. Both were delicious and cooked fresh. I would say the only downside is that we felt the drinks were a bit expensive. We will go back though and would recommend to friends if they visit the area.

Lovely pub, friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. Both had the scampi and chips which was well cooked and presented. Proper “chip shop style” chips rather than reheated oven chips. We went on a Saturday night and the bar was packed for the apparently regular karaoke which made for a great atmosphere and was amusing to listen to from the restaurant area!

We visited here for drinks several times during our week in the area. We mainly sat outside as we had dogs with us and they’re not allowed inside. This was fine as the weather was usually nice. We ate here once and left the dogs in our accommodation. We were a group of 9 so we pre booked and pre ordered our food. It was all very simple food but hot and tasty. No complaints at all. I do wish they would consider allowing dogs inside in a certain area. The week we were visiting the other pub in Allonby was closed for refurb and I think had it been open we would have used that one simply for the reason that they allow dogs inside.

I would not recommend eating here, there are so many rules and menus, we went with dogs so your only allowed outside on the left, on the right it’s drinks only, inside the menu is for inside only, the menu for outside is pies, or burgers, we ordered and when it came I really should have sent it back it’s not homemade, it’s frozen rubbish the burgers were thinner than a one pence piece, the chips were not cooked, it was disgusting, can’t comment on food inside as we were definitely not allowed that menu, and told over and over again, the takeaway menu is the same as outside but blue pies and burgers, you can’t use the toilet unless you are buying something if your not you will have to pay 50p don’t go there

Was here sat teatime and Sunday lunch. Had vegetarian lasagne on Saturday and a roast on Sunday. Both meals were lovely, I stay in a caravan sometimes, it's so nice to walk there and have a bite to eat and a few drinks in the sunshine. The girl with the short hair is always so friendly and the service was excellent. I come here at least once a month, sometimes more and recommend to all my friends. You do need to book though, it's a busy place. A friend came with me, she was also very impressed with the food, the place and the friendly staff. Will be back again very soon 😁

After a little mix up regarding the booking we all had a really enjoyable meal. The food was plentiful and we all thought the chips were excellent. Children all had puddings which also disappeared, I don’t know how as I was stuffed. Thank you .

We enjoyed a lovely meal here. Steak pie, steak and Sunday lunch all excellent, fresh and hot. Great service. Only disappointment was the over cooked vegetables but I couldn’t knock a point off for this (I usually would) because everything else was so good. We will definitely be back.

Good food, definitely worth visiting. Prices are very reasonable both for food and drinks. I can’t fault the meal and would visit again.

Stopped off here on the Thursday before Easter after a very disappointing dining experience in Ambleside the previous day. Staff here were friendly and the food was wonderful and plentiful at very good prices. We were so happy after our visit here, it more than made up for the day before, thank you so much. We were staying in Mawbray for the 3rd time and will definitely be coming back here on our next visit. Please don't change anything as this is a real gem. Well done to the team.

Staying in Allonby for the third time, we had to come back. Jack's maybe basic inside but the food is anything but and the staff really friendly. We really enjoyed our meal, even my small portion of cod goujons & chips was still too much but it was delicious, hubby raved about his beef and veg pasty, it was that delicious. Such good value.

Since moving away from the area our visits are far less frequent. This time we found much improved surroundings in the newly decorated dining room. The food is still super, massive portions beautifully cooked and amazing value for money. The staff are friendly and efficient, well done. The chips are in our opinion still the best in Cumbria without any overblown “thrice cooked” etc rubbish as a lot of establishments claim nowadays. What you do works, please don’t change a thing, you’re great!

Dog friendly bar, don’t think so , took dog for walk in grass , wet underneath not even allowed in dog room, surely that’s why you have a wooden floor in it

Right opposite the car park, by the long sandy beach. Was greeted by a lovely young lady, when I asked if they catered for Gluten free, she said yes, and got me the menu!! Wow what a choice, amazing, goujons, fish croquettes, roast, curry, with lovely homemead chips too. Good british gluten pub grub at its best.

I read the reviews before we came here and some of them were off people who have awarded one star because they wanted to use their seats or toilets without paying. Now this is a business in a small seaside town, you can’t expect to use facilities for free when people legitimately have businesses to run. Moving on from that...we were greeted on the way to the bar by the owner (I think) and he advised us that they had been very busy and food wasn’t on anymore. We were coming in for food! Never mind, so we settled for a couple of pints and some crisps. The manager was very friendly, canny as we say up here. Pints were local ales and were lush, especially in comparison to the rank pints they serve at Solway Holiday Village.There was a really nice vibe to the place and it was immaculately clean. Some reviewers have said it’s very dated inside but I don’t think it is. As long as a place is clean then I’m happy! I’d love to go back when food is available as this place has a really nice feel to it.

Good choice on the menu, and also never had a problem with a wee tweek on any of the dishes on offer. Good selection of alcoholic 7 non-alcoholic drinks. Friendly staff, and reasonable prices. They also have a 'dog friendly' room next to the public bar.

Popped in for take away sandwiches (decent enough) a couple times for our trips out to the Lakes and had a look at their evening menu.My missus loves a roast she hasn't had to cook herself so when I realised they do them any day of the week it was a must to try.Not disappointed at all, tasty tender beef, 3 or roasties, a dollop of mash and 3 different veg all smothered in gravy. Good sized portions but between us and our 2 dogs we demolished the lot.Best of all, 2 mains with a pint of tasty real ale and a dry wine and soda the bill was <£25.Will we be back when we're next in the area? Too true.

3x gammon meals and burger meal, all cooked to perfection. Meat, chips, salad could not of been better. Only down was there was too much, to much to enjoy a beer ha. 4 meals with a drink each £53. We will return

Popped in for a late lunch just before they stop serving. Really nice home cooked food on offer--fab soup and generous burger. All friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.

The food was excellent as ever. But sadly the service was not good. We ordered 3 starters and five main meals. One main meal arrived first with the veg for the whole group. Then another main meal and two starters arrived together. We pointed out that we didn't want main meal same time as starters and was told "it's OK we can easily take it back and reheat them". We had ordered 3 mushrooms and onion ring starters and two arrived with onion rings only. The person who received their main meal first was finished by the time the other mains came back. They had obviously been reheated as the Gammon dish was dried and the pineapple dried out.

Not only did our day out at Allonby become my puppy’s first time at the seaside but he got a bonus experience off what it’s like in a food/ bar establishment!! So fantastic a opportunity to be able to have something to eat and have the puppy with us, because leaving him in the car would be a big No!!!

Friendly bar where the locals go! We enjoyed drinks there saying goodbye to new made friends in Allonby. The drinks are reasonably priced too! We didn’t eat there but everyone said the food is well proportioned and tasty.

The food was delicious. Lovely home made chips. Not expensive either. Landlord very welcoming as were the locals. Would gladly go back again.

Me and my sisters were staying in a cottage in Allonby so visited this place for Sunday evening dinner. Our dogs were welcomed too. The place is basic but clean and the food is plentiful. We had more than enough food, and enjoyed chats with some locals, who appear to be there regularly for their dinner.

4th time at jacks surf bar now visiting with friend ,Peter the owner is great fella making you feel welcome as do his daughters who work at bar/ restaurant along with mark and Davey the chef to name a few,beers are great food is spot on and big portions,happened to visit on peters birthday had great singer on ,always a good visit

Love visiting Jacks when in the area , great choice on the menu and always freshly cooked the lasagne is the best I’ve tasted and my hubbys curry was delicious. Lots of daily specials to choose from and staff friendly. Dogs are allowed into the bottom bar .

When ever in Allonby we always come here for a meal,food is always good .The staff are always friendly and helpful .Good offer on the Beers after 8 pm during the week .

Driving to Barrow-in-Furness by the coast and we saw Jack's Surf Bar. There was a family section dining room, the bar (which served food but no children allowed) and a separate dog room. Our kind of place. I was having bad luck with sandwiches so I ordered the hot dog with cheese (3.70), Hubby the cheeseburger (3.4) with an order of onion rings to share (2.00). The Guinness was only 3.70 per pint, the cheapest we'd found. It was all very good and we got to watch the end of a football match with another couple that was very interested in the outcome of the game. Very enjoyable

We ate here five times during our seven night stay. The menu has plenty to choose from, our particular favourites were the house curry, homemade steak pie and the lasagne. The staff are fantastic, they are all extremely hardworking, professional, polite at all times and service is always with a smile.

Ate here in March with our daughter, she and her Dad had curry and I had steak pie and we were very impressed. It was recommended to us as it was dog friendly.

After a long walk along the beach northwards, returned to the main town along the coastal walk and stopped for refreshments.

Has a meal recently. Popped in during the day to book a table outside as we have dogs and it was too hot to leave them in the car. When we arrived all tables outside were full. The Manager said we could come inside and eat with the dogs. Food was nice and very fresh. Very accommodating staff

Visited yesterday. We were served by 4 different people who were all very very friendly. We had the curry meal deal and it was delicious! Extremely large portions, too large for us so be warned. We took our Chihuahua and were pleased it is a dog friendly establishment but did have separate eating area if you did not have a dog. Very well thought out.

Visited late afternoon. Tried to order good and drinks!!! No one in the bar area....waited for 6minutes...eventually service!!! Tried ordering from the menus on the table....wrong!!!! They only serve snack food and the menu that was on the tables was a evening menu....not currently served!!!! What the heck!!!!! So unless you are a mindreader and don't mind wasting time then I would certainly avoid, avoid, avoid!!!! I'm all up for going with the flow but seriously......!!!

We only called in for a pint very friendly clean nice clean toilets several people where eating it looked very good large portions.

We visited tonight with my family for dinner the food was fab and the service the price was good the only thing I think would finish it off it a complete make over in the dinning area

Great venue and reasonably priced, good portion sizes and choice from Sunday roast to Lasgne and everything in between. Even get special meal deals with desserts.

4 absolutly beautiful meals served by really nice pleasent staff, all meals were served together and piping hot, the cheescakes for our sweet are homemade and delicious

Me and my boyfriend visited here last night as we were passing by and fancied a dessert, we both got the honeycomb cheesecake with ice cream and could not fault it was beautiful and the service was brilliant! Was served and the cheesecake came out very quickly and the portion size for the price was brill! They also do a special which is 2 cheesecakes for £7 which is very reasonable! There was good selection of desserts to choose from they all sounded delicious!

3 of us visted Jack's Surf Bar and none of us we're impressed. Walked in and stood waiting to be shown to a table. Staff walked past us but did not help us. Eventually sat down ourselves and waited to be seen. Staff weren't very friendly and service was very slow. Ordered our food from bar then went and sat down. Only 1 item arrived as they'd not made the others. Food was alright but definitely not worth what we paid. One meal seemed to have been made by random left overs as it has a couple of fries on plate as well as a few crisps. Decor in cafe was like going back to 90's. Overall, wasn't the best experience.

Went today Thursday 19/04/2018 for lunch with my wife. Her son and his partner . Had heard about the daily roast they have so was looking forward to it . Lovely big clean pub except toilet windows could do with a clean. I had roast turkey and beef lovely stuffing , two good Yorkshire puddings one we chipolata sausage , roast and mash potatoes very nice , wife had roast chicken it was lovely , you get three fresh veg wee grumble didn't like that there was two white veg but cabbage was cooked perfect , also had the homemade chips they were excellent better than the local chippy I had night before but in hindsight you don't need the chips the roast is massive and cooked perfect , our son had the large 16 piece scampi and my god the portion of chips was again massive he said it was best scampi ever , his partner Tara had the homemade lasagna, garlic bread , chips and salad looked amazing smelt gorgeous and she said went down a delight . The roasts get a free dessert chocolate gateau a big let down after amazing meal remind me of the Sara Lee chocolate gateau of yester years . My solution is to get rid and offer a discount on the lovely sounding deserts you had advertised I would definitely had the apple crumble but when noticed it I had the chocolate cake by then. Definitely best place in allonby by far and must be one of best on the solway coast.

The food here was excellent. The portions were very generous, and it all seemed good quality ingredients, and was really tasty. It was also fairly good value for money. As a family, we had Pie, Scampi, Gammon and Lasagne and we all enjoyed our meals....

Came here for lunch, nice food and very cheap. Tailor to you and what you want. Would return here for food.

Our annual visit to Silloth would not be complete without a visit to Allonby and Jacks Surf bar . Great that we could take our dog in with us this time and we were not disappointed another great meal. The food is great , my curry was amazing and the roast dinner was huge .

I have visited Jack's on several occasions. Pub grub food has always been good, home-made, large portions, real ale, nice Sunday dinner. Dining room has good views, is child friendly, no complaints.

i have been eating at jacks for the past 12 years and have always found very good and well worth the money, my favorite is the tuna crunch baguette and chips !

This place served the biggest roast meals I have ever seen. We made the mistake of having a starter so unless you have an enormous appetite just have the main which is huge. ~There is an XL version but really you probably would struggle to get through that if you have an average appetite. One of our party said they didn't want mash so they got a very large amount of roasters instead. Very friendly staff, and there is a small table there full of children's books Be prepared though this is not your average restaurant more a working men's club look, but I would definitely eat there again if I was in the area.

Called to see what kind of foods they served and was utterly shocked by the absolute attitude of the the server on the phone .... i asked if he did certain means and got rude replies every time the server then replied “im not Gordon Ramsay” in a cocky voice. Service was vile and the absolute state of the servers manners was shocking .... needs improvement ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!

A large and I suspect popular venue. Quiet when we were there. Friendly staff. Food was fine. tasty properly cooked and adequate. Good value.

Went here for Sunday lunch while we where on holiday and I had the steak pie which was delicious my friend had the roast beef and all the trimmings and she said it's one of the best roasts she had for a long time.

Outstanding in all Aspects Called in with my Disabled Brother in Law for lunch staff were most helpful in showing us to a Table in serving our food the meal was served quickly and professionally cleanliness is Outstanding the meal 1/2 Chicken Chips Peas and Gravy Followed by Cheesecake & Cream the meal was fantastic served piping hot Plus the best part was the Price £5-99 yes £5-99 after our meal the staff helped me with my Brother in Law back to the Car Definitely Worth a Visit if you’re in the Area of Beautiful Cumbria

Lovely day so popped in for a quick lunch - not so quick - a simple meal on the menu took some considerable time to come and others who ordered after us were served before us - ?disorder in the kitchen. Food was adequate but please change the oil in your chip fryer - the chips were overcooked and obviously the bottom of the bag as they were small very crispy

We were driving up the coast and saw Jack's Surf Bar. Decided to go in.

Inside this place looks like a slightly tired working men’s club. However, it has a good feel to the place, extremely efficient and friendly staff. The food is ample in portion size, looks good and tastes good. If we had been staying longer we would have returned.

Visited twice now with my family. Nice and bright little restaurant. Food is plentiful and extremely delicious. Could do with more options for the likes of myself with allergies. Especially in the desert department. Lovely!

Called in for lunch, it was very busy and the main area was fully booked. The friendly waitress offered us a table in part of the pub but advised that dogs were allowed in that area. This wasn't an issue for us. We both chose the Sunday lunch, at £5.99 for a main course and desert (you can go xl for another £1.00) we weren't expecting too much. Boy we were so wrong............lots of meat, plenty of fresh veg, Yorkshire pudding and lots of rich gravy, can't begin to imagine what the xl looks like. It was like a good old fashioned, home cooked Sunday dinner. We were both rather full and neither of us could even contemplate desert, the people at the table next to us did and it looked lovely. Good food for a good price, definitely worth a visit if you in the area.
