Been here on a couple of occasions being my local fish and chip shop last time wasn’t great and thought it might of been an off day so thought I’d give it another chance lastnight however I had the same experience. Fish was oily and overcooked but yet not crispy, chips were very dry also over cooked as were the battered sausage. Really big shame as the young chap who works here is really friendly but the place lacks on the quality of food, I won’t be visiting again unless the quality of food improves. £26 for 5 sausage, peas, curry, chips and fish Don’t mind paying this but when it’s poor food it’s was such a disappointment

I don’t usually write reviews, however Jacks Fish Bar deserves my praise. The best battered cod and curry sauce I have had maybe ever. Tasty, crispy and hot food, friendly staff and good prices x

**Review for Jack's Fish Bar in Spalding** I have used Jack's Fish Bar a couple of times and, unfortunately, my experiences have been less than satisfactory. On both occasions, I found the cod to be disappointing—it wasn't crispy and had an oily texture that detracted from the overall enjoyment of the meal. While the chips were acceptable, they didn't quite meet the standard I was hoping for; they were just okay, but not as good as they could be. I hope Jack's Fish Bar can make improvements to their cooking methods and quality, as there's potential for a much better experience.

Fish was perfect but I have never been served such terrible chips dry and shriveled up they were not freshly cooked tasted like the day befores

Friendly service but food quality is awful chips are hard and dry chicken nuggets are hard and dry battered sausage is dry and everything is just tasteless not worth it at all i only live round the corner and will just rather walk into town instead of coming here from now on it hasnt got any better just gets worse

Firstly, the customer service has always been friendly and welcome. I have been frequenting Jack's fish bar for many years and until the last few years was always impressed with the crispiness of the cod and quality of the chips. However, on the last few visits over the last 2 years or so the cod has been quite oily and certainly not crispy. Additionally the chips are dry and nowhere near as well cooked as they used to be. One other disappointing factor is what I feel is quite a considerable increase in price of the food in general. To pay £8.95 for a large cod is very expensive. This week I bought 2 medium cods and large chips (£5.50 per cod & £3.95 large chips) costing £14.95 in total; that is 'way' overpriced. I probably wouldn't have minded so much if the cod wasn't as oily as it was and the chips as dry but this wasn't the case. Sadly, the standards I feel have dropped in recent years with Jack's fish bar (despite nice friendly staff), but ultimately it is the food and cost that is being judged here; therefore I would not be able to recommend Jack's fish bar to any prospective visitors.

I ordered fish cake and chips and pie and chip . The fish cake and pie was edible. The chips were disgusting. Mostly bits. They were nearly cold and hard. God know how long they been cooked .!

Fab fish fab chips fab sausage Lovely polite service. The only thing I would like to have changed is the heat on the batter oil as it soaked up in the batter and hit the peas up a minute more. Other than that I will recommend this place for a lush meal

Disappointing Experience at Jake's Fish Bar I recently had an unfortunate dining experience at Jake's Fish Bar, a place where I previously enjoyed good quality fish and chips. This time, however, both the fish and chips were severely overcooked, resulting in a burnt taste that was far from appetizing. In the past, my visits to Jake's had always been satisfactory, so this experience was particularly disheartening. Out of concern and disappointment, I decided to return the uneaten meal to the owner, hoping for an understanding response and a possible resolution. Sadly, the response was far from what I expected. The owner, asserting his years of experience in the business, refused to acknowledge that the fish and chips were overcooked. This denial of a clear drop in the quality of the food was surprising and upsetting. It's regrettable that a business I once trusted failed to recognize and rectify a clear lapse in their usual quality. This experience has significantly altered my view of Jake's Fish Bar, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it based on this recent visit. It's a reminder that customer feedback, especially when it's constructive and well-intentioned, should be valued and used as an opportunity to maintain and improve standards.

By far the best fish shop in Spalding, the staff are very friendly and attentive it’s one of the cleanest fish shops I’ve come across. I would highly recommend Jack’s, I have never had such good fish- chips anywhere and would only get my fish supper at Jack’s. One of the things that also stands out is they remember there customers and always engage with them and ask how they are and wish them well when they leave. 10 out of 10 every time.

Worst fish and chips I've ever had. Chewy hard fish that had probably been cooked hours before, cold chips and mushy peas that were not mushy and a green colour I've never seen before. Would have gone back for a refund if it hadn't have been so much hassle to return.

Good sized piece of cod. Lovely fresh chips Well priced as well. Friendly service. Just a shame I don't live a little closer.

After visiting a friend in Spalding we headed to Jacks to get some tea before heading home. I always go here on the extremely rare time I have chippy chips, simply because they fry in oil not animal fat. I was really looking forward to my grub. Husband was having double peas in a tray with fish and i was just having chips and peas. When I opened the tray I knew instantly it was about to be a bad experience. I saw the frankenpeas and recognised them from a previous horror meal. It appears they'd put too many green tablets in but not cooked them for enough hours or stirred them. I've had exactly the same once before around midday when they'd just opened and was given frankenpeas and i swore never to go in at opening time again but they'd been open all day this time.

The chip was hard and like left overs and over cook like ther bin re drop in the fat more than 2 times the fish was ok the 1/2 chicken was over cook even when they freshly did it gravy was not even eatable don't not recommend we bin r food had go elz were

Really nice chips, and fish was even better. The staff are really friendly and even gave extra kids meal boxes for the girls to play with.

Just grabbed a battered sausage and chips from jacks. The battered sausage was soggy as had been sat under the heat lamp. Found a thick black hair wrapped around in my chips. When I took the chips back in and showed them they refused to give me a refund unless I came back at 8pm to speak to the manager. The boy serving me was very condescending and didn’t seem to care at all about serving me hair. Will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone.

I really don't know what to say about this visit. I asked for a fish butty and after trying to describe what a fish butty was, nobody knew how much one was so they had to ring someone to find out.....I didn't really mind that as it was quite humorous. The disappointment came when I opened the box they'd put my fish butty in and was greeted by that gastronomic delight in the picture. I'd like to say it was a huge bap that made the fish look small, but unfortunately it wasn't. I've seen more meat on a fillet of goldfish than was in that miniscule mouthful. All for the princely sum of £5.25. The icing on the cake was no butter on a dry bap.....so not only did I have a piece of fish that wouldn't have looked out of place as a fairground prize, I had the joyous fun of it being wrapped in what I'd describe as a bun of baked sawdust. Captain bird's-eye would be turning in his grave.....

It would appear it’s the only fish and chips open in Spalding on a Monday! Yet the chips were, or appeared to be, leftover from lunchtime! Fish was reasonable but no better!

Awful chippy. Just been in and literally thrown the food away. Chips wasn't cooked properly fish "smelt" and tasted funny, and the batter was awfully hard and a weird colour. Wish we would have refused to pay now. Avoid if you can, I wouldn't recommend.

Not been to Jacks for about 20 years. Couldn't find another chippy open on Monday so thought I'd give them a shot. £7.20 for a decent bit of cod and lovely chips! Not sure why so many chippys up here undercook their chips but the ones from Jack's were spot on to my taste. Nice colour and texture. Genuinely impressed. Friendly staff. Parked at Lidl next door so no messing about with the few spaces in front of the chippy. <arnie>I'll be back!</arnie>

Always our favourite. Frying in vegetable oil they're suitable for those who don't want their chips slathered in beef dripping. Just a heads up, Sheddy Turner uses beef dripping!! 🐄

Absolutely delicious takeaway. Great for vegetarians as Jack's fry their chips in Vegetable Oil. Always good service which I am happy to travel miles for.

We have used this place for many years as they fry their food in vegetable oil. I check with them occasionally just to ensure they haven't gone back to beef fat but as of today, it's still veg oil. I can understand some vegetarian potential customers may avoid this shop due to their shop sign still calling it 'Jacks TRADITIONAL fish bar'. Traditional usually refers to beef fat lard. Anyway the chips were lovely and light and the peas were delicious and green. My son was so pleased his sausage wasn't battered and he said his chips were gorgeous. Excellent to find them open on a Monday. I feel sure they didn't used to open on a Monday but it could be from years ago. I just have a good memory.

Popped in as was passing by, only had chips & curry sauce but was spot on. Chap behind the counter was friendly, shop was clean and prices reasonable. Cannot fault and will definitely drop in again if in the area!

Worst chips I’ve ever had. They were cold and hard. Clearly been left over from lunchtime. Lads were lovely and very chatty but chips awful. Thought I’d try them as my local chippy was closed on a Monday but I couldn’t eat them.

Well I now know why I hadn’t been to Jack’s Fish Bar in Spalding for ages - it was awful. Apart from the colossal price hike for cod (£6.25 for large cod which is only marginally bigger than standard size at £4.00) I don’t know what they have done to the batter - awful soggy uncooked stodgy mess surrounding the fillet of fish. No aeration to the batter at all - completely inedible - didn’t even give it to the dog it was that bad! The chips were good! Will not go again and this is imprinted into my mind permanently now!

used it a few times and its far from consistant . the fish batter you could hurt an average size elephant with . the pies are cold , but the service is great . its a very average fish bar and if its busy go home and have a sandwich .

The staff are superb and the food is excellent, cannot fault jacks at all, would thoroughly recommend.

brought fish chips and mushy peas from Jacks fish bar wasted 6.50 Fish was dry batter like a brick and very greasy, chips were old tasting and lots of black bits, plus all the meal was very greasy oil needs changing peas were vinegary and looked artificial and I've never see mushy peas fluorescent like that before couldn't eat put it all in the bin

These wonderful fish and chips have to be tasted. Try a standard portion before you go large because the portions are very good. I have cod and chips and the wife loves the pancake rolls. Mouth is now watering at the thought......yum

as i bean ill for awhile did not eat then today one of my support workers came to see me and i fanced fish and chips so of she went and got me some from Jacks Fish and Chips Bar though it a takeaway it as off road parking and it is side a main road very clean place as i say i or in this case is how my support worker found it today

terrible service, they offer a drink with daily special offer and try to give you a kids drink and up the price to have a can of drink, will not be going here again

I ordered saveloy and sausage in batter and chips with curry sauce.... I can’t believe you can get something so simple so wrong. The saveloy was so reheated it was like rubber and the same with the sausage ....the chips were shocking they were dry and again clearly cooked along time before serving.

Went there at for tea at 6pm for 3 bags of chips and a sausage when I got home found they were all reheated and dry couldn't eat them yuk!

to save my wife cooking i decided to have fish and chips bean hear before and always found it a very clean place with food cook fresh though it only a take away it as a small car park right out side the door they have a very good menu to choose from always find the staff very friendly and it very easy to find right on the main Holbech road I GIVE THIS CAFE A Excellent Marks

Very obliging staff. Need to check opening times. Can phone to pre-order if you want something special like Haddock, Plaice or chicken. Reasonable prices too. Limited parking.

Visited Jacks on many occasion in last 5 years and was always happy with food there unfortunately not any more. First fish can be reheated or fatty when you visit the shop after 7 o 'clock. Chips no more nice and big but small bit and bobs. I thought I was there a regular customer and they no me after many chats with people serving. But as turns out they do not care. Now I'm pleased to travel 10 more miles to Market Deeping and have THE BEST fish and chips shop in south Holland. ;))

A superb "Fish and Chip" shop and deffinately the best in the whole of Spalding. Very good portions, well cooked and reasonably priced. Would definately recommend.

El único crédito que puedo dar es para las fichas que estaban en cantidad copiosa y bastante sabrosa. Sin embargo, el bacalao era muy seco y el bateador era correoso, hecha y algo comestible. El pescado, que me pareció que era una reminiscencia de ejemplos a la izquierda de recooked anterior sesión de apertura. Muy decepcionado y no volveré.

This place has lovely reviews and I wish I could say the same. Twice I have been here recently and taken food home for my lunch. The food itself was lovely..... until I found a small black hair. The first time I thought ok , everyone makes mistakes. So I gave them another try...... twice..... really! Such a shame I wont be returning but there chips taste lovely!!!

I've used this chip shop in the past and they have been good. Today I ordered battered sausage and chips with a single portion of chips. All I can say it was bloody awful!!!! The sausage had obviously sat there for sometime as it was hard and dry, the chips were also the same. Not what I would expect at lunchtime, or anytime from a chip shop. Take note Jacks fish bar and cook fresh food. Once bought and you drive away, are you honestly going to go back?? No your not!Sort it out Jacks fish bar and stop robbing people of their hard earned money.

Stopped here to grab Fish &amp; Chips on the way home from Spalding and I cannot express how nice these fish &amp; chips are. The batter on the fish is lovely and chips exceptional. I think it may be the oil that they are cooked in. Lovely smiley service from the staff and so clean inside the shop. Would recommend to others without a doubt.

Having been here before and having asked the question on how they cook their food as I can not have any gluten or wheat I was told the chips are cooked in a separate fryer so I was able to eat them. So when I returned and placed my order I asked for the chips to be wrapped separately to avoid contamination. I also asked again before leaving the shop if the chips were separate, the lady who served me said yes and when the young man also asked her she still said yes. So when I got home and unwrapped the order I found that all the chips were wrapped with the fish and sausages. This meant they had been in contact with food containing gluten so I could not eat them. After calling the shop it became quite clear that they do not under stand what food allergies are. This could have caused me serious problems had I eaten these chips.

The guys in here make you feel so welcome and the cod and chips are lush :) there was a little queue but they apologised &amp; worth the wait.

This is an excellent fish and chip shop. Crispy batter on fish very good chips - no horrible ones that you have to leave. They do a senior citizen special on Wednesdays and a lunchtime special all the week. Open Sunday for a few hours too. Like them better than Sheddys in Spalding.

We go to Jacks a couple of times a month. The fish is always delicious, scraps provided, good fresh chips and service with a smile. Best fish and chips in Spalding.

Batter on the small piece of fish was thick and rubbery not good at all chips were average peas were very green too much green dye in them. I will not use again

we only have to walk in, they look up and a piece of white (don`t like the black side) plaice is prepared for me. They always take an interest in our family. Excellent service.

Jacks is always busy, which is a good sign for a fish &amp; chip shop. The fish is always fresh and hot and there is always more fish than batter. Be prepared to queue but it's well worth the wait.

Whilst in the area, i have purposely driven to this wonderful take away fish and chip shop.It is placed a few minutes away from Springfields shopping centre and it does have limited parking in front of the premises.The staff have always been attentive, friendly and more than happy to cook haddock with the skin off, at your request. The portions are more than adequate, always beautiful flaky fish in a crisp golden batter and the chips are fluffy and fat. Delicious.If you request a large portion , the fish are huge. I have never wasted a scrap and it is , in my humble opinion, the best chippy in miles.
