Istanbul Turkish BBQ Restaurant in Southend-on-Sea

Ordered lamb Shish takeaway. Meat was hard and had a stronger smell which indicates might not be that fresh. Definitely £15 was too expensive for it. I will not go back!

I am a very happy Istanbul delivery customer over the last seven years and wouldn’t go anywhere else for my Turkish. Good value for money and very consistent on the quality. Drivers always very friendly and the owner is a top guy to.

Longer wait than usual and food quality not as good as other times. Usually everything is seasoned well but it was very bland this time around unfortunately. Also the pastry on the borek was soggy not crispy at all. But disappointed

Just had dinner at Istanbul Turkish, absolutely great customer service with very generous portions. Food was fresh and delicious.

We ate lamb shish kebab and the lamb was tender and delicious. The starters was all lovely and the service was very friendly. You can trast in them hygine as well. It is a very clean shop. Overall is a very good Turkish restaurant. I definitely recommend 👌.

we had the set meal for 4, what good value, honestly could have fed another 2 people with the food we had. Lots of flavours, good variety. And a few free cold meze’s thrown in also, thank you, will order again soon, x x

I am extremely unhappy with the service and food from this Turkish restaurant. Our order was forgotten, resulting in a 2-hour delivery delay. When we finally received our food after calling them 4 times, it was completely wrong. We ordered 2 set 4 meals, but what we got was mostly kebabs with hardly any lamb or chicken, clearly just thrown together hastily. There were no apologies issued for the inconvenience. This experience has left us very dissatisfied. I do not recommend this restaurant.😔

Went here today staff were so kind to us. The food was very good value and large portions were given. Highly recommend.

Called up the first time to check my delivery. The first guy lied and said “it’s on its way” I called up another 10/15 minutes later and told him “it’s on its way” when I questioned the he already said that he said it will be leaving in about 10/15 minutes because it’s still in the time period. When I called the final time when I got a notification it was delivered, I get told “the system can delay sometimes” and I explained that it said “delivered” and she just said it again and again.

Wouldn't have minded about the lateness, but the food showed as being delivered almost 20mins before actually arriving.

Was back in Southend and fancied something relatively healthy so looked up kebab shops in the area and came across Istanbul. Initially I was put of due to it being in Southends version of hell in the York road but I was pleasantly surprised once I got passed the one legged crack head street drinkers. The restaurant was clean, had a real charcoal grill and the order came with rice and salad so I ordered a lamb shish and wasn't disappointed it tasted great along with the cacik and a chilli sauce and the salad was out of this world with herbs and spices on it. The free drink was a nice touch if I'm ever back in Southend and want kebab I'm heading here.

The order was late by 20 minutes and the quality of the meat was as good as the order we had the week before. Will not use again

Order was 15 minutes late, called the restaurant they said 10 minutes it's now 20 minutes later and still no food....shocking no idea if it's even coming and just eat said its been delivered but it's not.

This halal Turkish restaurant is amazing! I usually don’t write reviews but the customer service and food is too amazing not to! I went with my family to this restaurant and changed my mind twice before actually ordering, and then got takeaway but then decided come back to eat inside with my family - so I would’ve been seen as a difficult customer from most restaurants. The owner, manager, waitress and all staff were really smiley, inviting and accommodating. They also gave me and my husband 2 free drinks. I noticed they were treating all families and customers the same with warmth and kindness, the best part is they are even great with children! This restaurant couldn’t get praised enough. I’ll definitely be going back.

Great customer service with high quality bbq meat and mezze options freshly made. My personal favourite in the mix is the chilli sauce with lamb shish & adana ~ definitely worth a visit to eat-in or take away for friends or family! 🔥

This is a second visit with family, and what can I say?. I would highly recommend Istanbul York road if you are looking for a real Turkish restaurant experience. The food is world class and the restaurant team made us feel most welcome from start to finish.

Really friendly atmosphere, all the staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was just amazing and perfectly cooked I Can’t recommend eating here enough!

Number 1 turkish restaurant in Southend, food was great and we had a lot of home specialities and the chief was great. I felt like at legendary turkish guy Yasin Cengiz (skidi dop)

Food which was provided was nice however missing all salads & dips.

Very disappointed. Chicken Shish was dry, lamb Shish was fatty and over cooked. Lamb donor was dry. Chips were not edible. The bread and garlic dip were nice. Salad had way to much coriander

one of the best takeaways in Southend and for sit down meals..the food is just great always hot always lots of.,the staff are so friendly and attentive they cannot do enough to make the customer feel at home and that they are important to them....always offered a Turkish tea when waiting for a take away or a sit down meal

Very over priced, nearly £20 for a vegetarian kebab which didn't contain vegetables. Very poor quality food.

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant consisting of a meze plate for 2 and the Istanbul’s special set menu for 2. When arrived to pick it up the owner came out to chat with us and made us feel very welcome. We were given two carrier bags of food which hurried home to enjoy. When we got home we unpacked the food which was sealed foil containers and to put simply could not believe our eyes . We had ordered for 4 people , without exaggeration there was enough food for 8 . Apart from the quantity the quality was exceptional. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough . We will definitely make it a regular event . Incidentally this fabulous meal was led than £20 per head . What great value !!!!!

Absolutely 💯 % worth a visit. The customer service is exceptional, I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. I ordered a Shawarma meal, the portion size is amazing, more than I could eat in one serving. If you are hungry and want some really tasty food, I definitely recommend it. Lovely food but unfortunately missing chill sauce and salad. Which made it not as top notch as usual. Also there were only 3 pieces of baklava. For the price you expect a full delivery. Disappointing

This is the second time we have ordered from here first time was brilliant average delivery time and lovely and hot, and this time it was 45 minutes late I rang and they said it’s on its way, there was no sorry it’s so late, does not take 45 minutes to deliver and when it arrived it was cold :( never tastes the same when it’s warmed up, has put us of from ordering from here again :(

The food is always good quality from here and that is why we keep coming back. However in our most recent order there was no salad or cacik in my wife’s chicken doner wrap so it was literally just wrap and chicken which was a little bit disappointing. The halloumi wrap was as good as ever though.

Second time visiting - this time we are in. The food is so delicious, beautifully presented and is plentiful. The staff are very friendly and was keen for us to try Turkish tea and some baklava which were both so good. The first time we ordered to take out and we couldn’t believe how much food there was. Great to have meat served with rice rather than chips. Salad was amazing. Great to try so many new delicacies knowing they are authentically marinated, spiced and cooked. Look forward to many more meals with you!

I order very regularly with this restaurant, however the past 2 times (today and last Friday) the meat has been inedible!! I thought it was a one off the last Friday, as normally the food is better than most other Turkish peer restaurants. So I was surprised to get very poor meat again (and also no bread!) tonight which I could not eat!! It would be good to receive some feedback.

The food is just incredible. Had a slight issue with my hummus being missed but they dealt with it brilliantly and got some sent straight out to me. My absolute favourite place for food.

I recently ordered a takeaway from Istanbul, and I have to say, it was a truly disappointing experience. My partner (who suffers from coeliac) called prior to ordering to clearly indicate their allergies when making the order. The restaurant completely failed to recognise their dietary restrictions. Not only did this put her health at risk, but it also showed a shocking level of negligence on the part of the staff and kitchen. I expected much better from a supposedly reputable establishment. This lack of attention to allergies is not only dangerous but also reflects a complete disregard for customer safety and satisfaction. I would strongly advise against dining at Istanbul if you have any food allergies, as they clearly do not take them seriously.

Ordered a takeaway for my sons birthday my daughter has celiac disease, she rung the restaurant before we ordered and checked against the dishes we had ordered, we were informed no gluten, she double checked and asked again, no gluten, well it did and has made her very ILL this morning, this is not good enough what more can you do them phone and double check, WILL NOT BE USING THEM AGAIN, I do hope they read this and reply!!!!!! Please beware if you have any allergies!!!!

Gluten free choices for me as a celiac were superb. Walked me through the menu and adjusted our order for my needs. The Turkish tea given to us while we waited made us wish we were staying longer. We ordered the shared mix platter and it was huge! Best Turkish food I’ve had outside of Turkey. We stumbled upon this place because the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed. VERY glad.

Do not eat here if you have allergies. I was assured the rice served is not mixed with any type of wheat (I am celiac). We spent almost £100 on food only for the rice to have wheat mixed in. I am now extremely ill from this experience.

Did not get my stamp reward which would have saved me £24.00 on my order so although I would normally rate this restaurant as very good I was disappointed tonight.

Really amazing food but that's not all. Their chef and the staff is so welcoming and polite which is rare to see in other restaurants. Do not forget to have their amazing tea. I have been to Turkish restaurant more than 500 times but never had such a refreshing tea. I hope they can give me the recipe 😋. Overall they deserve 5🌟 rating. I wish them good luck and hope that they maintain the same standards.

Great Turkish food and lovely staff. The chef said this will be the best Turkish meal that you have ever had as he was serving us, I was sceptical at first as I have had many great Turkish meals as my partner is Turkish, Well he was 100% correct, what an amazing meal full of flavour from extra herbs and fresh ingredients plus perfect cooking. I have always visited this restaurant, today I took my parents and they enjoyed the food. Their starter was delicious, everything grilled was juicy and flavourful. Their baklava and Turkish tea was great . Overall the Service was excellent. Thank you 😊 5⭐️

One of the worst resturant food quality really bad Table was dirty and very sticky Price is not worth of food.. so expensive and small portions Do not waste ur money.

Many times I have ordered the lamb shish, but this time I received half the amount of food than usual. I will order again but hope for the usual amount so I don't feel hungry after my meal.
