Istanbul Restaurant Normanton in Derby

We had dinner yesterday,food was ok, but the restaurant, seating Service was 10/10 very friendly staff specially the manager was too kind and generous.

Ate in on recommendation, staff not trained, sauce was Heinz tomato soup, meat was made to look more by hiding bread underneath. Won’t go again

This was our first visit and we are so glad we came to Istanbul. The food was great, excellent portion sizes, a very spacious restaurant and an open kitchen which is so clean it shines. Every member of staff we met was really really nice. For what you get, the price is good too. Thanks so much for making our evening so nice, we look forward to returning very soon.

The place is great with a great atmosphere. The food is very delicious as well. My only complaint is the price of the food. It has gone over what I can usually afford. It's a great place to go on special occasions, but not somewhere you can eat often.

Portion sizes were very small, and prices very high. Ordered minced lamb kebab for 14.95, it was a single skewer with a tiny portion of rice. At odds with reviews stating good prices and generous portion sizes. The ayran was nearly half filled with ice cubes, and very little actual substance!

The restaurant staffs and manager were very polite and friendly, dining was well organised and pleasant to be. Food and beverage were excellent and they are affordable.

We had a really lovely evening at Istanbul Restaurant Normanton Road. Right from the start we were made to feel very welcome and at home by the manager and his team. The food was excellent and very tasty. It was great to try a selection of all sorts of Turkish foods, all prepared and served beautifully. The manager goes out of his way to ensure that all his guests have a great experience - his hospitality and generosity would be hard to beat anywhere else! Would definitely go back and recommend to others.

During the course of my training I visited Derby. This place was highly recommended and it sure did live up to its standards. The manager greeted us right at the start with such energy and enthusiasm. He recommended us with the food and drinks and they were 100/100!! Such great service and food & we even got desert and tea on the house at the end. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Derby. Will be coming back for sure!

Every single time I go this place it makes me to come back. It can beat all those so called posh central London so called posh Turkish restaurants by a mile. A very good place to eat and never had a bad experience in the last few years.

Sadly not as good as it used to be. We've been going here since it opened and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere, however on a recent visit things have definitely changed. The restaurant was unusually very quiet for a Friday evening with a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. I had a meat kebab platter that I and others in our group all thought was extremely bland and tasteless. Like other reviews have said, you can get a far tastier meal from a local takeaway. The chiefs really need to up their game and start producing tasty offerings or this place will soon be in trouble. Also, offering additional sauces instead of ketchup and mayo would be a start. In all it's a shame because this place could be so much better.

This is not a restaurant, which is a takeaway. they have no clue how to talk to customer and behave as a professional staff.👎🏻

Lovely food, my chicken shawarma wrap was delicious and fresh. The service is very friendly and quick. I highly recommend this restaurant. Authentic food with a varied menu. Lots of dishes to choose from. Very popular with the locals.

Went with friends to celebrate a birthday over a delicious platter of assorted meat. Noah obviously lives for celebrations... hahaha. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Thanks for a great evening!

We had booked a table for 10ppl the evening before,when we arrived on the Friday night the Restaurant was closed! They had taken my contact details but no call to advise us of this closer unsure if they have even re opened. As you can imagine we weren't very happy... Trying to find another restaurant to seat 10ppl on a Friday night was not fun

Book table for my mum birthday, have received confirmation for the booking, ower family drive 30 miles to have a nice evening and meal, but when we came, restaurant was close

I came to Istanbul for my birthday and was welcomed with the manager. He assisted us and changed our whole menu to his recommendations which were absolutely stunning. He knew it was my birthday and he gave me a birthday drink that he personally made. Later on he stopped the whole restaurant to sing happy birthday and give me baklava with ice cream inside. Definitely will come here again!!!

I wanted to start with I am a semi regular customer and have always rated this restaurant highly but after making a reservation for a family reservation i will probably not be visiting again. It was our sons and mum's birthday a table booked for 6pm on a Sunday the restaurant was unusually quiet but a lot of staff after being seated for around 25 mins someone eventually came and took a drinks order and our food order. Another 20 mins passed before the drinks mostly cans of Cola and 1 non alcoholic cocktail were "plonked" on the end of our table without a word. Another 15 mins and the first of our 9 meals arrived This is where is went down hill Very Fast The Peid which we asked to be without peppers came laidened with extra peppers so had to be sent back The grilled salmon with fries came with cold fries so went back The mixed platter for 1 which I asked for without any chicken or beef donor meat and with cous cous came with both donors and rice When questioning the server she just shrugged her shoulders and said oh yes the chef has made them that way The other 6 dishes were all on the right side of warm but not the quality we've always recieved when visiting previously The second peid only made it half way out again as this time they had "forgotten" the cheese on it buy the time it had come out the 3rd time its was very sorry looking over grilled and the rest of the party had finished eating. I went to speak to some management and was passed around to 3 servers who all denied being management and it became apparent there was NO management in, I think this is where the problems lay these servers did not care how badly our service was or how poor our food was. The lady who came to the table when we were all finished just said are you done or what with half full plates still on the table. We said yes although I did say to her that her tone was not required. They offered us a 10% Deduction as customer loyalty which to be honest was a bit of an insult. I think istanbul needs to keep a better eye on its staff when they are not in because quite frankly many more services to customers like that and you won't have many left. It really was a shame and put a dampner of a lovely family occasion.

Been here several times. Every time has been wonderful. Super friendly service and the manager makes time for you. The food is always consistently excellent. Never a bad meal. Meat cooked to perfection, salads are super fresh, rice is amazing and portion sizes are very generous. Price is very good as well. You just can’t go wrong eating here.

Just recently discovered this fantastic place, which was highly recommended. It proves to be right as the food was exceptionally delicious. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was great too.

Food i will not say 5 star but service and atmosphere is really good, The manager over there is a nice guy, gave children icecream for not using mobile! hats off!

Stopped at Derby for Friday prayers and honestly I can't believe what gem of a place this is.. the tastiest and most value for money Turkish food I've ever had. Many restaurants go overboard making it very rich - fatty and spices etc.. but the food here was 10/10 with a perfect balance of flavours.. I hope to visit again in the future when I'm passing by, and hopefully they continue the present quality.. the manager gets 10/10 for his friendliness and hospitality as well.. Got two Turkish teas and ice cream on the house before we left..!!

The manager is a very kind hearted guy. The kids loved his enthusiasm and taking time out to chat with them. He took special care of our son who uses a wheelchair. Very good accessibility with a lift and spacious restaurant. Enjoyed the meal.

It was my first time in this restaurant and I must say, it felt like home. Excellent food, service and the atmosphere was nice and warm. I came from London and will surely visit again. All staff were kind. Especially the owner who gave us free tea! Thank you so much.

We had a very nice experience, as the food was very great. We ordered lamb chops and rice and mix Kebab for one. Noah was so friendly and the environment was clean and spacious. I loved the tea after the meal, it was on the house. It’s my first time in here and there was enough free parking and paid parking. It has a stairs to get upstairs.

Clean spacious family friendly environment, freshly made delicious food, generous portions & a good customer service. There was a gentleman who was very friendly & checked on us & especially the kids often, it maybe the manager. Lovely guy. I'll come again anytime & will be very comfortable to bring visitors too.

The portion sizes were really nice but lahmacun was better when I had it in the restaurant. Keep that in mind. Also unfortunately chilli sauce was so bad and I think out of date. It was not smelling and tasting nice.

Ate in midday lunchtime. Only one other table in the restaurant. Staff were inattentive and service very slow. Forgot all the drinks, had to go over to the waitress and ask for the remaining drinks whilst she was having her lunch. Had to ask to clear the table. Had to chase desserts. Had to ask for the bill 3 times. Food wasn’t great. Wouldn’t return or recommend.

Wow, what a restaurant. I've been to Turkey many times and this place is like a piece of Istanbul has been placed in Derby. The food is all freshly cooked on large grills, generous portion sizes (but not too big) and decent price. They don't serve alcohol but you're more than welcome to go to the shop below and bring it to the meal.

The Turkish food here is as nice as you'll get anywhere. It's a lovely restaurant, has a decent variety on the menu, large portions. It's not a life changing experience, but it is a very good Turkish meal. Edit - on my most recent visit (July 2024), the customer service was outstanding, the manager was superb and the whole meal felt like an event.

I went in a couple of weeks ago & asked what vegan options they had. Didn't seem to know what vegan means - they thought it was just not eating meat. Hummus. That's it. Hummus. They also said feta salad which is obviously not vegan. Very disappointing as they say they serve vegan options. Technically they do - hummus but it's not right to claim they serve vegan options. Totally misleading. Get into the 21st century why don't you?!!!

We stumbled upon this place whilst driving through Derby and it did not disappoint. The Adana kebab was one of the best I have had - an excellent balance of herbs and spices. The meat was tender, succulent and full of flavour. The chicken wings starter was a delight. Kudos to Ibo, the chef. Nawa, the manager was the epitome of a hospitable host: charismatic, attentive and dedicated. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

Waited nearly two hours for food as the kitchen staff put the slip away after sending starters although we didn’t ask for starters first. We asked 3 members of staff including manager several times on how long the food would be and got lied to every single time as every time it was either 10 minutes or 5 minutes. Once the three dishes arrived we waited a further 15 minutes for two more dishes after asking the manager again. The last meal wasn’t even brought out and when asked why was told by the manager they had ran out. Not one single member of staff nor the manager had a clue of what was going on. I appreciate the restaurant was busy at the time of our arrival but how were other tables being served who came in after and how did we wait nearly two hours for food without the staff or manager noticing this. By the time our food got served a lot of tables who came in after us had eaten and left! Really disappointed as visited a few times before and had really enjoyed the food but unfortunately I will not be returning.
